The Pittsburgh Steelers have not looked like their usual selves on the defensive side over the past few weeks. The Steelers' defensive unit was utterly dominant throughout the first 11 weeks of the regular season, but some major injuries have taken their performance down a step. Ever since the loss to the Cleveland Browns in the snowstorm, Teryl Austin's defense has looked extremely concerning. The Steelers have now lost back-to-back weeks after reaching a comfortable AFC North lead with a 10-3 record. Through the first 10 games of the season, Austin's defense was only allowing about 16.2 points per game. Since the loss in Cleveland, that number has jumped to a concerning 27.4 points per game. A key aspect to the Steelers' success on defense has been their ability to force turnovers. The Steelers lead the entire NFL in takeaways with 31 , including 12 in the last five games. Despite their ability to create turnovers, the defense has not played nearly as well as earlier in the season. In both of their losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles, the defense allowed over 400 yards of total offense. Also, in each loss, the Steelers allowed three offensive touchdowns by their opponents and haven't been able to force as many field goal attempts. Chris Carter and Ray Fittipaldo with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette talked about Pittsburgh's defensive struggles, and Fittipaldo pointed out that the team may have become too reliant on their ability to create turnovers. "What are they doing well right now? They're not stopping the run, as we saw against the Ravens," Fittipaldo explained to Carter. "They're not stopping the pass well, AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith just torched them a week ago. Lamar Jackson threw three touchdowns on them." Two weeks ago, Philadelphia's wide receiver duo combined for 219 yards on 19 catches and two touchdowns. In their last outing against the Ravens, Derrick Henry rushed for 162 yards , the most the Steelers have allowed by anyone all season. "This is a team that is highly dependent on turnovers," Fittipaldo continued. "Teryl Austin said last week or a couple of weeks ago, I forget when, that that's part of how they scheme their defense. They count on turnovers. But, Chris, when they don't come, when you don't fall on the football, they're not doing anything well enough to offset that. To me, they've become way too highly dependent on turnovers." While Minkah Fitzpatrick was finally able to record an interception in Baltimore, the Steelers had other opportunities where the Ravens put the ball on the ground. Pittsburgh was unable to take advantage of any of the fumbles by Baltimore, and that told the story of the game. The defensive struggles for Pittsburgh puts the organization in a much tougher spot to finish the regular season. The Steelers are essentially tied for first place in the division with Baltimore, but technically hold first place due to a better conference record. All fingers point to the Steelers needing to win their final two games to secure the division title, but this defense is going to have to deal with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals. As Fittipaldo highlighted, the Steelers are going to have to get back to limiting opposing offense's total yards and touchdowns, as opposed to focusing on taking the ball away. Another key factor to the defense's recent struggles is their number of starters being sidelined with injuries . The Steelers are currently without their top two cornerbacks, and safety DeShon Elliott's absence has been crucial. The Steelers are going to need some of their reliable defensive backs to return on Christmas if they want any shot at taking down the defending back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Steelers' TJ Watt Going To Have To Provide More Pressure On Chiefs' Offense Though he was playing through an injury with a banged up ankle, TJ Watt was unable to make a huge impact in their loss to the Ravens. Watt finished the game with just four total tackles and only one of those being a solo tackle. For the Steelers to have success against the Chiefs defensively, the front seven are going to need to put Patrick Mahomes under a lot of pressure. With the possibility of the Steelers being without their top two corners, the defensive line must have a huge game on their home turf. If the Steelers are unable to make an adjustment defensively, their Christmas Day will absolutely get ruined by Mahomes and the Chiefs. Sharing the last 9 months performance of power sector under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at press conference here, the minister said the government was moving towards privatization and concession models and already appointed members of Board of Directors (BoDs) of DISCOs purely on merit. Circular debt costs were also being shifted from electricity bills to the national debt to reduce burden on the consumers, he added. He said the average price of electricity has decreased to Rs 44.04 per unit from Rs 48.70 per unit owing the reforms initiated in power sector by the incumbent government. Similarly, average power tariff for industrial consumers has also decreased to Rs 47.17 per unit from Rs 59.50 per unit, he added. Both the domestic and industrial consumers have witnessed Rs 4.66 per unit and Rs 11.33 per unit decreases respectively in the tariff since June 2024. He went on to say that the government has eliminated Rs 150 billion in cross-subsidies from the industrial sector, a step that has boosted industrial growth and job creation in Pakistan. The government was also diligently working on upgrading the transmission sector, including the division of National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) into three entities, he added. He said NTDC would be divided into three entities including the National Grid Company of Pakistan for efficient and reliable transmission, the Energy Infrastructure Development and Management Company for project management, and the Independent System and Market Operator for a competitive and transparent electricity market. Prior to the proper assignment of ambassadors, Mr. Khiradbar was appointed as the first acting ambassador (charge d' affaires in foreign relations jargon) of Iran to Pakistan, whereas Major Muhammad Hassan fulfilled this responsibility for Pakistan in Iran. Moreover, the people of both these countries had a desire to be close with one another. People from all walks of life felt the need to extend a communicative hand to this newly born country. Following the establishment of the new state, Iran generously offered Pakistan its cooperation to assist in the resettlement of migrants. A desire for mutual awareness of each other’s circumstances also arose in the media of both countries. The Iranian press gave significant coverage to the news of Pakistan’s establishment, which not only informed the Iranian public about this new state but also sparked a curiosity to learn more about the newly independent country. Consequently, representatives of the Iranian press decided to visit Pakistan themselves to gain firsthand knowledge of the situation. Therefore, renowned Irani journalists decided to visit Pakistan and report on its happenings live. In April 1948, a delegation of Iranian journalists visited Pakistan for the first time. Mr. Maliki said that the invitation to visit Pakistan was extended a couple of days before their departure and although his father was on his deathbed, the attraction of seeing the new Muslim State was so great that he chose the latter. This delegation visited various places to gain awareness of the conditions and issues of the new state. The most significant activity of the delegation members was their meeting with the Governor-General of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Quaid e Azam ascribed the visit of this mission as the third gesture by Iran to establish cordial and friendly relations between the two neighboring countries: the first two being generous contributions by the Iranians to the Quaid e Azam Relief Fund and exchange of diplomatic representatives. Quaid e Azam also emphasized the need for harmony, for purpose and complete understanding among all the peoples of Asia, particularly Muslims, as that would be a great contribution to the peace and prosperity of the World. This nation of Persian race and religion, was plucked from the mother country by the foreigners' hand. It is time for us to come together. Their independence and having everything in common should form one dominant unit in the Muslim world. The Principal Information Officer of the Government of Pakistan hosted a dinner in honor of this delegation at the Palace Hotel, which was attended by H.E. Khirdbar, the Chargé d’Affaires of Iran in Pakistan; Z.A. Bukhari, a prominent figure in the world of broadcasting and the then Controller of Broadcasting at Radio Pakistan; M.H. Zuberi, and other local and foreign representatives. The details of this dinner were published by the Dawn newspaper on April 9, 1948. When the delegation completed its visit and returned to Iran, it met with the then head of state to brief him on the outcomes of the trip. The head of state expressed happiness over the fact that the Iranian delegation had visited Pakistan and seen the situation there with their own eyes. All three members of the delegation were very pleased with their visit. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah sent a message to the Iranian head of state through his representative, stating that God forbid Iran should ever face a time of need, Pakistan will stand ready to assist Iran as if they were one body. This statement was not merely emotional. Quaid-e-Azam’s words, as reported by his representative, were: God forbid in the hour of Iran's need the 80 million Musalmans of Pakistan would be at the service of Iran as one man. This is not mere baseless sentimentality. This message was directly delivered in Iran by Pakistan's first diplomatic representative, Chargé d' Affaires Major Muhammad Hassan. While presenting the message, Muhammad Hassan also remarked that Quaid-e-Azam never said anything without fully understanding its significance. “Quaid e Azam never said anything that he did not mean” Muhammad Hassan sent a detailed report of this meeting to Governor-General Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Foreign Secretary Muhammad Ikramullah (who served as Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary from August 15, 1947, to October 16, 1951). This confidential report appears to lay the foundations for the mutual relationship between Iran and Pakistan. During this meeting, Quaid-e-Azam’s representative also mentioned that Iran had won the hearts of the Pakistani people by extending both moral and material support.
