Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is to have a removable heart-starter device implanted following his recent collapse in a Serie A game, Italian media reports say. Bove collapsed on the pitch during Fiorentina's home game with Inter Milan on December 1, leading to the abandonment of the match. He will have the operation on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT), which is part of the medical protocol before he can be discharged from hospital. The Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a type of pacemaker that can prevent fatal cardiac arrests by discharging a jolt to restore a regular heart rhythm, is not permitted in Serie A. Once all the results of the medical examinations carried out in recent days on the 22-year-old Italian have been collected, Bove can then decide whether to have the device removed, which would allow him return to play in the Italian league. Denmark's Christian Eriksen was unable to continue playing for Inter Milan after having an ICD fitted following a cardiac arrest in 2021 during a European Championship match. Eriksen later joined English club Brentford after the Serie A club terminated his contract.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was benched ahead of Week 3, but was thrust back into the starting role after Andy Dalton's injury. Since Young's return, the Panthers have defeated the New Orleans Saints, and New York Giants, and only lost a nail-biter to the Kansas City Chiefs. More News: Former Chiefs' Player's Family Says NFL Treats CTE Victims as 'Throwaways' Young was electric against the Chiefs, completing 21 of 35 passes, tallying 282 total yards, and no interceptions. Young finished the 30-27 loss to Kansas City with a 92.8 passer rating, his best of the season. Panthers head coach Dave Canales spoke on Young's weekly progress since his return to the starting role. "I don't have to make any statements, he's making it for himself," Canales said. "He's continuing to show us the progress we're looking for, bringing our skilled players to life. Talking about Bryce, it's the coaching staff, it's his teammates, he's showing us what he can do when he's out there." Despite losing to the Chiefs, Young proved his value to Carolina as he helped the team nearly beat a legitimate playoff contender. Only three teams have put up 25-plus points against the Kansas City defense: Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, and Young and the Panthers. The Panthers were down 20-6 at the half against the Chiefs, but Young helped the team in its efforts to take Kansas City to the brink. Compared to his first two starts of the season, Young looks like a completely different player in his recent starts. "When I see Bryce out there, I think 'Oh that's the Alabama Bryce,'" Panthers linebacker Trevin Wallace said. "Like that's cold. I love seeing him go make them plays. A lot of people I feel like doubted him a bit. Now he's showing the doubters wrong and I love that about Bryce." Young has made a steady progression in his fourth straight start since reclaiming the starting role in Carolina after Dalton's accident. Against the Giants in Munich, Young was 15 of 25 for 126 yards and a score. Against the Saints, Young led the Panthers on a game-winning touchdown drive. Originally, Canales said he would decide whether Young was the starting quarterback week-to-week. However, Young's recent performance changed Canales' tone when he was asked if the 23-year-old quarterback would get the start next week. "Absolutely," said Canales. MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Australia’s House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill that would ban children younger than 16 years old from social media , leaving it to the Senate to finalize the world-first law. The major parties backed the bill that would make platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X and Instagram liable for fines of up to 50 million Australian dollars ($33 million) for systemic failures to prevent young children from holding accounts. The legislation was passed with 102 votes in favor to 13 against. If the bill becomes law this week, the platforms would have one year to work out how to implement the age restrictions before the penalties are enforced. Opposition lawmaker Dan Tehan told Parliament the government had agreed to accept amendments in the Senate that would bolster privacy protections. Platforms would not be allowed to compel users to provide government-issued identity documents including passports or driver’s licenses. The platforms also could not demand digital identification through a government system. “Will it be perfect? No. But is any law perfect? No, it’s not. But if it helps, even if it helps in just the smallest of ways, it will make a huge difference to people’s lives,” Tehan told Parliament. Communications Minister Michelle Rowland said the Senate would debate the bill later Wednesday. The major parties’ support all but guarantees the legislation will be passed by the Senate where no party holds a majority of seats. Lawmakers who were not aligned with either the government or the opposition were most critical of the legislation during debate on Tuesday and Wednesday. Criticisms include that the legislation had been rushed through Parliament without adequate scrutiny, would not work, would create privacy risks for users of all ages and would take away parents’ authority to decide what’s best for their children. Critics also argue the ban would isolate children, deprive them of positive aspects of social media, drive children to the dark web, make children too young for social media reluctant to report harms they encountered and take away incentives for platforms to make online spaces safer. Independent lawmaker Zoe Daniel said the legislation would “make zero difference to the harms that are inherent to social media.” “The true object of this legislation is not to make social media safe by design, but to make parents and voters feel like the government is doing something about it,” Daniel told Parliament. “There is a reason why the government parades this legislation as world-leading, that’s because no other country wants to do it,” she added. T he platforms had asked for the vote on legislation to be delayed until at least June next year when a government-commissioned evaluation of age assurance technologies made its report on how the ban could been enforced.During their first three-game winning streak of the campaign, the Kings have often had their “A” game, and if last season’s series with the Dallas Stars was any indicator, they’ll need it again when they welcome the green and white on Wednesday. After being outscored 13-3 in a clean sweep of the three-game set last season, the Kings will face the Stars for the first time in 2024-25. Described recently as being simultaneously prone to playing down to lesser opponents and incapable of rising to the occasion consistently against top teams, the Kings have quieted doubters. After a highly convincing win over the delight of the early season, the Winnipeg Jets, they tallied two victories in two days over the .500-ish Ducks and Ottawa Senators . Overall, they’ve outscored opponents 11-4 during their surge. “We’ve just got to keep rolling and keep building in the right direction. We’re getting better,” Kings forward Trevor Moore said. “We’re playing really good defensive hockey right now, goals are starting to come and we have some confident guys.” The Kings also quieted another narrative, one based largely on two poor third periods in San Jose, the last of which condemned them to a 7-2 loss to the Sharks on Nov. 25. Against both Ottawa and the Ducks, they entered the final frame tied, pulling away to reaffirm their status as one of the NHL’s most prolific teams in the closing stanza. “That third period in San Jose was obviously not up to our standard, and we’ve obviously done a good job rebounding from that,” Moore said. Among their six injured players, goalie Darcy Kuemper seemed closest to making his return. Drew Doughty continued to have a longer timeline. Another two-time Stanley Cup champ, Trevor Lewis, will be stuck on 999 games for another four to six weeks, Jim Hiller told reporters Tuesday. Lewis has 101 career goals and 232 career points as he sits on the precipice of what’s now a deferred milestone. Of the 267 forwards with 1,000 or more NHL games played, there are only 49 with fewer goals than Lewis has total points. There are but three forwards in league history with 1,000 games played who have actually recorded fewer points than Lewis. Two were outright enforcers with authoritative nicknames like “The Chief” (Craig Berube) and “The Don” (Donald Brashear). Another, Steve Staios, had over 1,000 career penalty minutes, too. Today, Staios is the general manager of the Senators, Berube coaches the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brashear is still playing at age 52 in a Quebecois minor league. Only the sandpaper-laden fourth-liner Cal Clutterbuck (293 points) and longtime Detroit penalty kill specialist Kirk Maltby (260 points) joined Lewis among other 1,000-game forwards who didn’t penetrate the 300-point barrier. In addition to being a mainstay on the PK, Lewis has proven a popular teammate that’s also a willing extension of the coaching staff, giving him value that overflows from the playing surface onto the bench, into the dressing room, during film sessions and even aboard the team plane, as Hiller explained. “(Lewis) just does so much for our team. He’s a really hard guy to replace,” Hiller concluded. Related Articles Heading into Dallas, 37-year-old Kings captain Anže Kopitar has eight points in his past five games. The Stars’ own ageless wonder, Joe Pavelski, retired this past offseason, but veterans Matt Duchene and currently injured Tyler Seguin ranked Nos. 1 and 3 in team scoring. Though he’s had a relatively slow start to the season, Arcadia native Jason Robertson has five goals and 12 points in his past seven games against the Kings, six of which were Dallas victories. Kendrick Lamar solidified his place in rap history this summer after he battled Drake for the game’s top spot and this album feels like a victory lap. GNX is named after the 1987 Buick GNX — the souped up version of their Grand National car that’s apparently very rare. According to the Bentonville Buick GMC blog, there were only 547 of these things made and Kendrick confirms that number on his Instagram burner account. You see, because everything he’s been doing has been done with intention. There was a lot of smoke around rumors that he would be dropping a fresh project before the Super Bowl , and you know that old saying, right? Well, it looks like there’s a fire, folks. He’s far from finished and we should probably get used to it. There’s no sense in fighting it or hating on it, just let it be and let the chips fall where they may. The crown now sits firmly in the West. There’s no more Big 3, that era is done. It’s over with. This guy is a maniac, he’s a tyrant. He’s still talking Drake and the rest of the game all over this record. You remember that “ For Pharrell I’ll inherit the beef ” line? He flipped SWV’s “ Use Your Heart ” from 1996 that was produced by The Neptunes and titled it “ heart pt. 6 .” This is a diabolical mastermind that we’re dealing with here, so join me as I tried to pick and rank the 10 Best Lines from Kendrick Lamar’s new album GNX . Song: “peekaboo” This is an honorable mention right here because it’s not a Kendrick line. This rapped by Dody6 and was a line I kept thinking about, so I included it on here. The fact that he made sure to feature underground West Coast cats like Dody6, AzChike , and Peysoh is a pretty big deal. This is a major look for them and they delivered with some of the best features on this record. Dody snapped with that Her Loss double aunt andre, too. Salute. Song: “tv off” Hey, man, sometimes family be on some b.s. It be like that. Song: “gloria” Some feel like the his bitch being his pen is a little corny, but I was feeling the lead up to it because there’s been a lot of conversation about some of lyrical content and approach. Yeah, he’ll maybe come across as preachy or self righteous, but they in the next breath he’ll crash out. This is the dichotomy of man. Song: “heart pt. 6” This SWV flip is madness and then you couple that with these heartfelt lines about TDE’s come up and you have a special song. I felt like Stefon Diggs doing that postgame interview. You know the one. Song: “reincarnated” This dude flipped 2Pac’s “ Made N—az ” and used his flow on the first verse, but this conversation with God in the last verse stops you in your tracks. Here he goes again putting the war that’s inside him on full display. His vulnerability turns some off, yet it’s one of those things that makes an artist generational. Snoop recently gave him credit for bringing L.A.’s gangs together and how important the “Pop Out” concert was. Song: “squabble up” He has the money and the power to off the competition, but the boogeyman enjoys doing the job himself. Song: “man at the garden” He’s still not finished?? This guy is a menace. Song: “hey now” I’m not sure Noah was killing animals aboard his ark, but I haven’t read the bible in a minute. Great line, either way. And of course, we all know how he’s referring to. Song: “squabble up” So, it looks like we finally got the snippet he did at the start of the “Not Like Us” video and it’s essentially a message to the game that the boogeyman is outside and he wants to play. Song: “peekaboo” Calling diamonds boogers and comparing their carats to Kobe’s 81-point game is what this rap thing is all about. Song: “wacced out murals” To be fair to Snoop, he posts damn near everything on his Instagram account. But him waking up and being confused about hearing his voice on Drake’s diss song and then reposting it was a little head-scratching to say the least. The West Coast legend has been adamant about wanting to stay neutral throughout this whole ordeal, so maybe he didn’t really mean anything by it? Either way, Kendrick’s disappointed in his OG. Let’s hope they can hash this out. Song: “hey now” This is one of the best lines on one of the album’s best songs, and he’s still talking to Drake who some thought was too big to fail. Song: “dodger blue” That line about his chain being so dripped in ice that it resembles the glare on the camera lenses used by some of the game’s greatest directors is special. Song: “wacced out murals” Jigga tapping Dot to headline the Super Bowl has made everyone loose their minds, and perhaps there were some politics happening behind the scenes that made Wayne feel like he and Cash Money were going to get the nod in their hometown, but I’m not really sure how you can not understand this decision. Maybe Weezy gets the call if one of the most important rap battles since Jay-Z vs. Nas didn’t pop off. Song: “man at the garden” The crown sits in the West. We better get used to it. Now we sit back and see who tries to come for it.
