Coco Shrimp , the Fort Worth company started in 2016 out of a food truck and known for a simple shrimp-and-five-flavors concept, opened its eighth brick-and-mortar store in November — in College Station, the farthest location from the company’s home base. What’s next for owners Isaac and Lauren Hadley and Mary and Jordan Barrus: a Mansfield location, due in 2025. Trevor Carver, Coco Shrimp’s marketing manager, sat down for a Q&A with the Fort Worth Report. Nishimura: Are all eight restaurants corporately owned? Carver: Yes. (The owners) like to keep it that way, because it keeps them busy and they like what they’re doing. Nishimura: The company said in its social media around the College Station opening that you’d like to expand nationally. That doesn’t mean franchise? Carver: We get hit up every other day for franchise opportunities. We feel we lose a lot of control and vision when you open it up to franchise. We talk about it often, opening it up to franchising in the future. But the owners like what they’re doing right now. And we’ll push it as much as we can and try to hold on to it as long as possible. Nishimura: How have the owners financed these openings? Get essential daily news for the Fort Worth area. Sign up for insightful, in-depth stories — completely free. Carver: They try to cash-flow everything. Nishimura: This approach goes back to the way the owners opened the first brick-and-mortar store in 2019 — by themselves. Carver: Isaac and Jordan don’t have any restaurant experience. They just basically discovered it as they went along. They built their first location by hand, and that’s been the story all along. They were the general contractors. They did the second the same way, because it’s what they knew and it was cheaper that way. The third one was even quicker. And now it’s just a big snowball. Nishimura: As this company has evolved, what’s changed? Or has anything changed? Carver: Not a lot, honestly. I always like to compare it to In-N-Out . They serve two burgers — one’s a single patty, one’s a double patty — and that’s it. That’s what I love about it. (Ours) is just a simple concept. We have one protein, shrimp. Five flavors: coconut, lemon herb, butter garlic, spice and sweet and spicy. We added Coco tacos. But that’s kind of the biggest thing. Nishimura: How big a deal is it to go to College Station, some distance from home for this company? Carver: It’s huge. It’s far enough from DFW that you wouldn’t drive there in a day, for food. We were worried. But there’s kids (at Texas A&M University) who come from DFW. Hopefully, they’d heard of us, and some did. When we opened, we contacted influencers and companies to spread the word. And it worked. Getting in with the college students and faculty was huge. It gave us hope for spreading out of Texas eventually — and going coast-to-coast with it. We’ll be a very new name. Nishimura: Where does the shrimp come from? Carver: Right now, we get it from Ecuador, because it’s reliable, it’s the size we like. But it can depend on the season. Nishimura: What’s next? Carver: Our next one is Mansfield. We just got word we can start construction in January. We’re hoping for a spring opening. The victory ended Getafe's five-game winless run and lifted them into 15th place in the 20-team standings. Valladolid remain second from bottom. In the buildup to the match, Getafe sporting director Rubén Reyes described the game as a final, but his team was lucky not to go behind as Valladolid created more of the early chances. However, the home side took control in the 69th minute when substitute Álvaro Rodríguez got the opener. Three minutes later, man-of-the-match Allan Nyom made it 2-0. "There's been a lot of games where we've run and fought but lost or drawn," Nyom, the veteran Cameroon full back, said. "A game that reflects the effort we've put in in training is very welcome." Adding to Valladolid's woes, coach Paulo Pezzolano was sent off before half-time. The Uruguayan has the league's worst disciplinary record, with seven yellow cards before Friday's red.
Investing.com -- India's stock market has entered its longest bull run, surpassing the 2003-08 rally in duration but have delivered only a third of its cumulative returns. Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) analysts believe the current market, marked by low volatility and strong relative gains against emerging markets, still has room to grow. The ongoing rally, which began in March 2020 during the pandemic's early uncertainty, has been supported by several macroeconomic factors and structural shifts. Key factors driving the next phase include a declining primary deficit, democratisation of investing and credit, robust consumption, improved social equity with higher female workforce participation, and an energy boom. Morgan Stanley views current market valuations as reasonable, given that the earnings cycle is only midway. India's nominal GDP is expected to grow by 10-11% annually over the next five years, with corporate earnings likely compounding at 18-20%. Improving corporate balance sheets, rising private investments, and favourable external dynamics, such as reduced oil dependence, bolster the earnings outlook. Morgan Stanley favours cyclicals over defensives, highlighting financials, consumer discretionary, industrials, and technology as preferred sectors. Whereas sectors like Consumer Staples, Utilities, and Healthcare are expected to underperform. The bull market is transitioning from macro-driven growth to stock-picking opportunities, Morgan Stanley said. Small and mid-cap stocks, which have recently underperformed, are set to regain momentum. Emerging themes include private capital expenditure in areas like energy mobility, defense, and semiconductors, alongside traditional industries like cement and real estate. India’s improving macroeconomic stability and structural reforms suggest its equity market still has potential for further gains, with Morgan Stanley emphasizing the importance of sectoral and thematic plays to navigate the next leg of the rally. Charlotte Crosby trebles security measures to ‘feel safe’ amid attempted robberyThe Republican-led House of Representatives approved a bill on Dec. 12 to expand the number of seats in the federal judiciary. The bill, known as the Judicial Understaffing Delays Getting Emergencies Solved (JUDGES) Act of 2024, would add 66 district court judgeships nationwide. Under the bill, the additions would occur incrementally, with the last wave of judgeships being authorized in 2035. The vote of 236–173 comes just before President-elect Donald Trump is set to take office in January. Trump’s recent electoral win allows him to continue reshaping the judiciary after adding a substantial number of judges during his first term of office. “Hastily adding judges with just a few weeks left in the 118th Congress would fail to resolve key questions, especially regarding how the judges are allocated,” a statement from the White House read. It also pointed to “efforts by some senators to hold open existing judicial vacancies” as evidence that judicial economy and caseload management were not the primary motivations for the bill’s passage. Democrats contend that the bipartisan support that propelled the JUDGES Act through the Senate in August was predicated on the assumption that neither party knew which presidential candidate would oversee the first batch of appointments. With Trump’s victory, the bill’s fairness has been compromised, according to Democrats. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, accused Republicans of delaying the bill until after the election to ensure that their preferred candidate benefited. “Now here they are today, during the narrow window when the central premise behind the JUDGES Act is broken, trying to force this bill through the House on a partisan basis,” Nadler said. Following the bill’s passage, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said: “The Biden–Harris administration has chosen to issue a veto threat and Democrats have whipped against this bill, standing in the way of progress, simply because of partisan politics. “This should not be a political issue—it should be about prioritizing the needs of the American people and ensuring the courts are able to deliver fair, impartial, and timely justice.” The bill also stated, “Congress has not created a new District 11 court judgeship since 2003.” According to the bill, district courts saw a 30 percent increase in filings since the last comprehensive legislation, with 686,797 pending cases as of March 31, 2023. The court system faced an average of “491 weighted case filings per judgeship over a 12-month period,” according to the legislation. In its 2023 request, the Judicial Conference said it generally required that average to be more than 430 weighted filings. For fiscal year 2022, the number exceeded 500 in 17 courts, 600 in eight courts, and 700 in three courts. Lawmakers in both chambers have cited the increasing number of cases filed in district courts. According to the Justice Department, the nation has 94 district or trial courts and more than 670 seats for district court judges. Above those courts are 13 appeals courts, which are divided into 12 federal circuits covering specified regions of the country, and the 13th Federal Circuit Court, which only hears specialized cases. Biden has nominated 241 and the Senate has confirmed 231. President Barack Obama saw 160 confirmations across his two terms as president.
PM: Significant increase in technology sector investments should benefit local companiesPresident-elect Trump was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year for a second time on Thursday and he celebrated by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Trump, who was previously honored by Time after his 2016 White House victory, called the second win “a tremendous honor.” “Time Magazine, getting this honor for the second time, I think I like it better this time actually,” he said before ringing the bell on Wall Street. Trump signaled the importance he places on the NYSE appearance by enlisting Vice President-elect JD Vance, First Lady Melania Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, to join him. He name-checked some of the Wall Street heavyweights in his incoming administration, including Treasury Secretary-nominee Scott Bessent along with his new pledge the federal government will issue expedited permits, including environmental approvals, for projects and construction worth more than $1 billion. “I think we’re going to have a tremendous run. We have to straighten out some problems, some big problems in the world,” he said. Time editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs said Trump was someone who “for better or for worse, had the most influence on the news in 2024.” “This is someone who made an historic comeback, who reshaped the American presidency and who’s reordering American politics,” Jacobs said. “It’s hard to argue with the fact that the person who’s moving into the Oval Office is the most influential person in news.” Trump is one of 13 people, mostly American presidents, to win the honor twice since it was launched in 1927. Former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is the only one to be named person of the year three times. Other 2024 finalists included billionaire Elon Musk, Vice President Kamala Harris, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Britain’s Princess Kate. Pop star Taylor Swift won last year. In an interview with Time that was published Thursday, Trump said his historic White House comeback reflected the deep anger among Americans over the direction of the nation. “We hit the nerve of the country,” Trump said. “The country was angry.” Trump also re-upped his plan to pardon most of his extremist supporters who were convicted of storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. It’s going to start in the first hour,” he said of the pardons. “Maybe the first nine minutes.” The incoming president also discussed his plans for mass deportations and argued he would have the authority to use the military to assist, although legal experts dispute that claim. “I’ll only do what the law allows,” he said. “But I will go up to the maximum level of what the law allows.” ___ ©2024 New York Daily News. Sister of Quebec man killed in Florida boat explosion also injured, friend says MONTREAL — A childhood friend of the Quebec man killed in a Florida boat explosion Monday said one of the victim's sisters was among the other six passengers injured in the blast. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Joe Cavaretta/South Florida Sun-Sentinel via AP MONTREAL — A childhood friend of the Quebec man killed in a Florida boat explosion Monday said one of the victim's sisters was among the other six passengers injured in the blast. Thi Cam Nhung Lê said 41-year-old Sebastien Gauthier was celebrating the holidays with his family when the explosion occurred in Fort Lauderdale. Lê said Gauthier’s older sister was also on the boat when it erupted into flames, and she was taken to a hospital. “It’s unimaginable, incomprehensible,” Lê said Saturday, adding that Gauthier’s family and mutual friends informed her about his death. Lê, 40, said she first met Gauthier in her early adolescence and they grew up together in Quebec City. She remembers him as a globetrotter who always had a smile on his face. “He’s still my best friend. It’s always him I call if I need something, but he’s no longer with us,” she said. The last time the two friends saw each other face-to-face was about two years ago, Lê said, but she last messaged Gauthier on social media in the days before Monday's explosion. And on Jan. 1, her birthday, she would have expected a call from him, just like every year. “I’m shocked, surprised, and feeling a little bit of regret," she said. "You regret not having seen him more. I spent yesterday crying. You can’t believe your friend disappears from one day to the next." Earlier this week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that Gauthier died of his injuries in Broward County. The FWC said its preliminary investigation in Fort Lauderdale showed a 37-foot vessel exploded after its engines were started, injuring all seven passengers on board. Video posted on social media Monday showed the vessel engulfed in flames, with a thick column of black smoke billowing into the sky. However, Florida authorities have not provided The Canadian Press with more information about the investigation. Searching for an explanation has also left Lê angry. As she mourns the loss of her longtime friend, she said she’s still waiting for answers about what led to his unexpected death. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 28, 2024. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Willy Adames wasted little time making one thing clear: He wants to play all 162 games for the San Francisco Giants. So when introduced as their new shortstop Thursday, Adames looked to his left and gently put a hand on manager Bob Melvin's right shoulder, smiled and said, “if he lets me.” Melvin might not need much convincing, thrilled to suddenly have stability at a position that lacked continuity this year in his first season as skipper. Adames didn't hesitate to also offer a thought to new boss Buster Posey: He plans to win a few championships with the Giants just like the catcher-turned-executive did here. Surrounded by his parents and other family and friends, Adames was formally introduced and welcomed at Oracle Park after signing a $182 million, seven-year contract — the first big, splashy move made by Posey since he became President of Baseball Operations in late September. “There’s no words to describe my feeling right now to be here in this beautiful city, I’m just so happy to be here,” Adames said. "... This is a dream come true for me. I’m thrilled to be here, I’m so excited. Hopefully we can win a few championships like you did, and that’s one of the main reasons I’m here.” Everyone who has encountered Adames so far can’t wait for him to get to work as an example both on the diamond and in the clubhouse. “He’s a unique connector of people,” Posey shared from Craig Counsell's description of the 29-year-old infielder from the Dominican Republic. “That really struck me because I think to win championships you have to have personalities like Willy that they're able to identify with everybody in the clubhouse, and that's not just players. I heard from multiple people that Willy treats everybody with the utmost respect. He plays with energy, he plays with joy and I know that our fans are just going to be thrilled to watch him compete on a daily basis.” Adames' deal marks the richest contract for San Francisco since Posey reached a $167 million, nine-year pact in 2013. “I didn’t know 'til it was done. I was like ‘wow,’" Adames said. From afar, Adames watched the legacy left by his hero Derek Jeter that went far beyond the baseball diamond. And that's as important to Adames as playing all 162 after he appeared in 161 games last season for Milwaukee. He considers part of his role to help the young players learn “to be a professional" and lead a club that has missed the playoffs the past three years in winning the right way. “For me that comes first, it comes first to be a great human being. I've got to thank my parents for that, they raised me the right way, to try to treat everybody the same, it doesn't matter what you're doing,” Adames said. “I think that's something that I'm really proud of, just to be the same guy every day, to be kind, just to give love back to people because there's a lot of hate out there and I don't really like that.” The Giants know Adames' positive influence could go far. Asked about the instability at shortstop, Melvin noted, “Well, it's not a problem now.” Adames gives the Giants a power bat and reliable defense at his position. This year for the Brewers, he produced his best offensive season in the big leagues, batting .251 with a career-high 32 home runs and 112 RBIs. “Look, every team wants a Willy Adames on their team. I think the thing that strikes me the most is when I'd watch him play a couple times a year on the other side was he never looked like he had a bad day,” Melvin said. “It always looked like every day was opening day to him. That enthusiasm when your best players are like that — Matt Chapman is like that, too — it's easy for everybody to have to fall in and play in that type of style. It's easier said than done but really for me that's the thing that struck me most is how much he loved playing baseball.” Adames is close friends with former Giants third baseman Matt Duffy, who shared his own experiences being part of the San Francisco franchise. It all became real when Adames pulled on his new cream-colored Giants jersey and buttoned it up, saying, “I'm a little nervous about this." A few moments later, the cap went on his head and he felt right at home. “It looks amazing.” AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB Get any of our free daily email newsletters — news headlines, opinion, e-edition, obituaries and more.

Lothal (Guj), Dec 28 (PTI) Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said the Rs 4,300-crore National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) being developed at Lothal in Gujarat is a project of national importance and will be a crucial step towards making India a leading maritime nation. Sonowal, who is Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister, reviewed the progress of the NMHC project along with Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, T K Ramachandran, said, "The phase 1-A of the project, coming up with an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore, is expected to get over by August, 2025, with 65 per cent of its construction completed." The entire project, being executed in two phases, is expected to be completed by 2028, he said. Work on phase 1-A of the project, comprising six galleries, jetty walkway, Lothal town, etc, started in March 2022, before the Union Cabinet approved it in October 2024. Apart from 14 galleries in phase 1 (six in phase 1-A and eight in phase 1-B), phase 2 will have conceptualisation of Lothal city as it existed in ancient times, surrounded by the pavilions showcasing the maritime heritage of coastal states in their individual pavillions, he said. "We are planning for the inauguration of the Phase 1-A of the project by August-September 2025, and the aim is to complete the entire project by 2028. We have completed 65 per cent of the work under phase 1-A," he said. The Union ministers toured key project landmarks, including INS Nishank, the Lothal Jetty Walkway and the Museum Block, and interacted with workers at the site to know their challenges and work progress. Sonowal expressed satisfaction with the significant milestones achieved in civil infrastructure development, noting that the project is advancing on schedule, an official release said. He said the government is committed to ensuring that the NMHC is completed on time and is of highest standards. "This project will boost tourism, provide a platform for maritime education, and foster collaboration between India's maritime community and the global industry. It is a crucial step toward making India a leading maritime nation," the release quoted him as saying. "The NMHC is a project of national importance, offering tremendous opportunities for growth and learning in the maritime sector. The visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji has ensured that India remains on course towards all round development of the country and that the people reap the fruit of India's developmental story," Sonowal said. The project will boost tourism, provide a platform for maritime education, and foster greater collaboration between India's maritime community and the global maritime industry, he added. The release said this world-class facility will showcase India's maritime heritage from ancient to modern times, adopting an innovative "edutainment" approach using cutting-edge technology to spread awareness and attract international tourists. Lothal, located some 80 km away from Ahmedabad, was a prominent city of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation dating back to 2400 BCE. It holds historical significance for its advanced dockyard, thriving trade and renowned bead-making industry. Artefacts such as seals, tools, and pottery unearthed by archaeologists reveal a rich cultural and economic history, making it a key Harappan site. Designed as a world-class destination under the Sagarmala Programme of the Union government, the NMHC aims to showcase India's naval achievements and cultural connections through interactive exhibits, state-of-the-art displays and engaging storytelling. This initiative is poised to not only preserve India's maritime heritage but also to attract global tourists and foster a deeper appreciation of its historical significance, the release said. "The idea is to generate a movement regarding knowledge about our heritage. We are also looking at tourism with the development of several tourist circuits, and nearby heritage sites, oceanic, cruise and coastal tourism will be connected to this. We hope that in the years to come, this will be one of the biggest complexes in the world," Ramachandran said. The ministry has also planned collaboration with 25 countries and signed MoUs with countries such as Portugal, UAE and Vietnam for the project, officials said. Phase 1-B of the project will have eight galleries, a lighthouse museum, a 'Bagicha complex', and a 5D dome theatre. Museutel (museum-cum-hotel), eco resort, coastal state pavilion, Lothal city, theme-based parks and maritime research institute and hotel are highlights of phase 2 project, they said. The former Geordie Shore star, who is nearly eight months pregnant, thanked a security company “for all the hard work this week” after adding the protections to her home. “Trebling our security measures, worth every penny to feel safe again in my own home,” the 34-year-old said in a post to her Instagram story. “Scumbags are gunna get a big shock the next time they even step foot on any perimeter of my land.” It comes after her fiance, Jake Ankers, said on social media that a group of men carrying a machete entered their home on Thursday evening while they were in the house with their two-year-old daughter. The businessman said one of the four men “had a red balaclava on” and was carrying the weapon at the top of the stairs. Durham Constabulary were alerted at 7pm on Thursday to reports of an aggravated burglary in Houghton-le-Spring, a town in the Sunderland area. A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers attended the area, however the suspects left the scene before their arrival. “Nobody was injured in the incident and no items are believed to have been taken.” She added that an investigation is under way and anyone with information is asked to contact police. After the incident, Crosby was admitted to hospital after experiencing “serious pains” in her stomach, but confirmed her baby is “all fine”. Ankers appeared with the reality star on BBC Three reality show Charlotte In Sunderland.
