DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Toby Fournier scored a season-high 27 points and collected nine rebounds to lead No. 8 Duke to an 81-59 victory over Virginia Tech on Sunday in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams. Fournier, a freshman forward, shot 12 of 17 from the floor in an off-the-bench effort to power the Blue Devils (9-2, 1-0 ACC). Oluchi Okananwa added 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Delaney Thomas chipped in 14 points. Reigan Richardson finished with just five points but dished out a career-high-tying seven assists. Carleigh Wenzel paced the Hokies (7-3, 0-1) with 19 points, while Carys Baker had 11 points and six rebounds. Duke: The Blue Devils bounced back from their loss at No. 3 South Carolina with a decisive victory and improved to 24-4 when opening ACC play at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Virginia Tech: Duke's stingy defense kept the Hokies from getting to their offensive actions consistently, leading them to turn the ball over 18 times while shooting a season-worst 14.3% from 3-point range. After trailing by three points early, Duke outscored Virginia Tech 32-10 on a run that bled into the second quarter. Fournier kickstarted the spurt for the Blue Devils with a layup in traffic, totaling 10 points and five rebounds over the 12-minute stretch. Duke entered this game ranking 15th nationally in 3-point shooting with a 38.8% clip and 18th nationally in assists per game with an average of 18.5. The Blue Devils had a positive assist-turnover ratio for the eighth time this season, and they improved to 5-0 when shooting north of 40% from behind the arc. Duke hosts Wofford on Dec. 18. Virginia Tech hosts Radford on Sunday. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . Similar searches have spiked following past presidential elections as well. Over the past week, however, people have also searched about the possibility of buying cheap homes in Italy. One VERIFY reader texted us to ask if it’s true an Italian village is selling Americans $1 homes following the election, and people on social media are also asking if it’s a real offer. THE QUESTION Is an Italian village offering $1 homes to Americans following the election? THE SOURCES Live in Ollolai website Archive of Live in Ollolai dating back to Nov. 13, 2024 November 2024 CNN interview with Francesco Columbu, Ollolai’s mayor 2018 CNN story on Ollolai May 2024 CNBC report on renovation costs of 1-Euro Italian homes THE ANSWER Yes, an Italian village is offering $1 homes to Americans following the election. WHAT WE FOUND Ollolai, a village on the island of Sardinia in Italy, is courting American homebuyers following the presidential election by offering them homes for as little as $1. Ollolai and other Italian villages have made similar offers to people around the globe for several years. However, the cheapest homes available require renovations that will push the cost of the home much higher than just a dollar. A website run by the village titled “ Live in Ollolai ” offers homes from 1 Euro to 100,000+ Euros ($1.05 to $105,000) for people “worned [sic] out by global politics.” The earliest appearance the website makes on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine is Nov. 13, 2024, just over a week after the U.S. presidential election. The website itself makes no direct mention of Americans or U.S. politics. However, the village’s mayor, Francesco Columbu, told CNN that “the website was specifically created to attract American voters,” who would receive “preferential treatment” when applying. “We just really want, and will focus on, Americans above all,” Columbu told CNN. “We can’t of course ban people from other countries to apply, but Americans will have a fast-track procedure. We are betting on them to help us revive the village, they are our winning card.” The website promises any prospective buyers that the village will guide them through the process of buying and renovating the home, as well as navigating whatever paperwork Italy might require the homebuyer to go through. Ollolai’s website says 1-Euro homes will need renovations, but there are “move-in-ready” homes at affordable prices that “require minimal renovation.” Italian villages such as Ollolai have offered homes for as little as 1 Euro for years, but the cheapest homes have always come with the caveat that the buyer will need to pay for renovations. CNN first wrote about Ollolai in 2018 , when it reported the village was selling hundreds of abandoned homes for 1 Euro each. “The real estate bonanza comes with a catch, though,” CNN wrote at the time. “The 200 stone-built dwellings up for grabs are in poor condition and buyers must commit to a refurbishment within three years, which will likely cost about $25,000.” Other villages in Italy, such as Mussomeli on the island of Sicily, similarly require buyers of 1-Euro homes to renovate the homes within three years of purchase. In May 2024, CNBC reported on the true price of Italian 1-Euro homes purchased by two Americans. Both Americans first purchased their homes in villages in Sicily in 2019. One of them won their home in an auction after bidding 5,555 Euros, which was about 5,900 Euros (about $6,200) after taxes and fees. That homeowner then bought the neighboring home in a private sale for 22,000 Euros and spent about 425,000 Euros renovating the combined space. In total, the homes and renovations cost about $475,000. The other homeowner bought three homes in another village for 1 Euro each. Each building came with a 500-Euro realtors fee and a 2,800-Euro deed — that’s about $10,500 between the three buildings. At the time, that homeowner had spent about $35,000 in renovations. Ollolai’s website says prospective buyers will be able to explore properties online soon. Ollolai also maintains a separate website for foreign remote workers to apply to rent a home for a month in Ollolai for 1 Euro. Ollolai is just one of several villages listed by websites promoting 1-Euro home deals in Italy . The trend began when some Italian villages began making the offers to attract foreigners to boost their local economies and offset aging, declining populations. The offer does not come with Italian residency or citizenship. Any American seeking to live in Italy will have to apply for residency separately. The U.S. Embassies and Consulates in Italy describe the process for obtaining legal Italian residency. While Ollolai’s offer was announced following the election of Republican Donald Trump, people looking for a more liberal government may not find that in Italy. The country is currently led by a right-wing political party with roots to post-WWII fascist groups . Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, has anti-LGBTQ+, anti-abortion and anti-migrant positions .

Abstract Security Joins Forces with Analytica42 to Supercharge Integration Delivery including integration to Google SecOps PlatformKings break through in victory over the KrakenCompany Achieved 50% YoY Revenue Growth & Positive EBITDA CALGARY, AB , Nov. 21, 2024 /PRNewswire/ - Nanalysis Scientific Corp. ("the Company") (TSXV: NSCI) (OTCQX: NSCIF ) (FRA: 1N1), a leader in portable NMR machines and MRI technology for industrial and research applications announces third quarter results for the period ending on September 30, 2024 , achieving 50% year-over-year revenue growth to $10.6 million in Q3. Chief Executive Officer Sean Krakiwsky and Chief Financial Officer Randall McRae will host a conference call at 5 P.M. Eastern Time today to discuss the results. A second call will be held for European investors at 8:30am Eastern Time tomorrow, November 22 nd . All interested parties are invited to join these calls. All dollar figures in this press release are in thousands of Canadian dollars, except per share amounts or unless otherwise stated. "We continue to see strength in both of our core business segments, product sales and security services," said Sean Krakiwsky, Founder and CEO of Nanalysis. "We had a solid Q3, as demonstrated by our year over year revenue growth. Within Benchtop NMR we experienced our typical seasonal slowdown in the third quarter. This was partially offset, however, by a large medical imaging sale in the quarter. Our focus on efficiencies in both our manufacturing processes and service delivery is resulting in gross margin improvements and positive EBITDA." Financial highlights for the three months ended September 30, 2024: For the three months ended September 30, 2024, the Company reported consolidated revenue of $10,570, an increase of $3,534 or 50% from the comparative period in 2023. Gross margin percentage on product sales was 52% versus 41% for the three months ended September 30, 2024. Improvement in gross margin percentage for Benchtop NMR is materializing, as average selling prices have improved and manufacturing cost reductions started in 2023 and continued in 2024 are taking effect. Security service gross margin percentage in the quarter was 15% versus (3)% in prior year comparative period as the Company completed the full transition of 100% of airports serviced to its control from the incumbent provider in the first quarter of 2024 and expects to increase revenue and drive efficiency within this business through 2024. Adjusted EBITDA for the three months ended September 30, 2024, was $264K versus an Adjusted EBITDA (loss) of ( $1,354K ) in the same period last year. This improvement was driven primarily by full transition of airports to the Company's control resulting in increased security services revenue, the effect of cost reduction initiatives, and slightly improved product sales over the prior year. This was offset partially by a slight decrease in third-party equipment sales. Net loss for the three months ended was $1,644K as compared to the three-month loss for September 30, 2023, of $6,287K. The difference between Adjusted EBITDA and Net loss includes a number of non-cash charges such as depreciation and amortization. Included in Net loss for the three months ended September 30, 2023 , the Company recognized a one-time charge of $2.8 million related to the deconsolidation of its Quad subsidiary. Quarterly Trend: The Company has demonstrated continuous margin expansion in Security service revenue quarter over quarter, driven by the expansion of the Company's airport security maintenance business as the Company took over more airports from the incumbent service provider, ultimately taking over all airports in Q1 2024. The Company reported positive Adjusted EBITDA in the third quarter of 2024 despite the seasonality effects of the slower summer months. The Company expects this to continue as it works to grow both product sales and security service revenue, while closely managing costs. Net loss was $1,644 in Q3 2024. Net losses are decreasing as the Company has successfully grown revenue and implements cost reduction initiatives. Recent strategic and operational highlights during and after the third quarter of 2024 include: Margin Expansion in both business segments: The Company was able to reap the benefits of cost cutting and drive efficiencies to grow gross margins to 52%, up 11% year over year in product sales and 15%, up 18% year over year in security services from (3%) in the prior year. Consistent Revenue in Airport Security Maintenance Business: The mix between scheduled maintenance, unscheduled maintenance and project work will shift quarterly but should provide a consistent balance of billing. The Company is focused on improving its efficiency and planning related to service delivery in order to increase margins through 2024 and into 2025. Medical Imaging : The Company completed another large medical imaging hardware sale in the quarter contributing to strong product sales in a traditionally slower quarter. Outlook "As we enter the fourth quarter, we have continued strong sales and the hard work we have done to expand our margins is materializing," said Sean Krakiwsky, Founder and CEO of Nanalysis. "Growth initiatives within the Scientific Equipment segment include the development and future launch of new products, developing new software applications, and seeking vertical market partnerships. Our market opportunity is expanding as more industries conclude that NMR, combined with the small size and portability of our products, is an excellent solution for their analysis needs. As we evolve, it is likely that we will reduce effort selling other companies' products, and increasingly focus on sales of our own proprietary products and services. "Within the Security Services segment, we are pursuing several new customer opportunities to leverage our existing capabilities. "Overall, we continue to grow our sales and are laser focused on operational improvements to reach our ultimate goal of profitability. These trends will continue through the rest of the year and into 2025. We have a positive outlook, are executing well, and expect a strong fourth quarter to close out the year." Criticizing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, he said while students were struggling for basic needs, the Chief Minister was focusing on his wealth and influence. In a series of posts on X, Rama Rao explained dire conditions in Gurukul residential welfare schools, stating that students were being forced to eat worm-infested food and endure illnesses due to inadequate facilities. He lambasted Revanth Reddy over misplaced priorities with focus on establishment of Pharma Villages to benefit his family and taking up Musi River Rejuvenation Project, while ignoring the plight of students. “While children suffer in ambulances, the Chief Minister indulges in (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); helicopter rides and lavish meals. While students struggle for quality food, the Chief Minister is busy gathering moneybags,” he said. The BRS working president also condemned the government’s inaction on incidents of student hospitalisation, snake bites, and unreasonable deaths. He said likened the Congress rule to that of a vultures reign preying on poor children. He found fault with the State administration including the Chief Minister for ignoring a tribal student who is struggling for her life for past 20 days, following her hospitalisation due to food poisoning and failing to address systemic failures. He warned that the neglect of Gurukul students would lead to the Congress government’s downfall. “Their suffering will mark the end of this demon rule,” he declared.Coleen Rooney has an emotional reunion with her sons and admits 'my boys have been proud of their dad for so long, it's my turn now' after losing out on I'm A Celebrity crown By LAURA PARKIN FOR MAILONLINE Published: 23:01 GMT, 8 December 2024 | Updated: 23:15 GMT, 8 December 2024 e-mail 3 View comments Coleen Rooney had an emotional reunion with her sons after she lost out on the I'm A Celebrity ... Bluesky CEO Jay Graber says X rival is 'billionaire proof'Pam Bondi, Donald Trump's pick to be attorney general, is a staunch ally of the former president, defending him against impeachment during his first term and pushing his false claims of election fraud as he sought to cling on to the White House. The 59-year-old former Florida attorney general, if confirmed by the Senate, will now serve as the top law enforcement official in a second Trump administration. "For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans -- Not anymore," Trump wrote on his Truth Social network. "Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again." Bondi's nomination means the top ranks of the Justice Department will be filled by Trump loyalists, as the president-elect has named three of the lawyers who defended him in his multiple criminal cases to its other high-ranking roles. Trump tapped Bondi to be attorney general on Thursday after his first pick, firebrand ex-Florida lawmaker Matt Gaetz, dropped out amid sexual misconduct allegations and doubts that he could obtain Senate confirmation. A graduate of the University of Florida with a law degree from Stetson University, Bondi served as a prosecutor for 18 years before being elected attorney general of the "Sunshine State" in 2010, the first woman to hold the post. Bondi, a native of Trump's adopted home state of Florida, was reelected to a second term in 2014. As attorney general, Bondi notably fought opioid addiction and human trafficking while taking a tough stance on crime and supporting the death penalty. She sued BP for the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and obtained more than $2 billion in economic relief for Florida, according to her biography page at Ballard Partners, a powerful lobbying firm where she has worked after leaving office. While serving as attorney general, Bondi was drawn into a controversy involving Trump when she declined in 2013 to join a multi-state prosecution accusing Trump University of fraud. It emerged later that Bondi's reelection committee had received a $25,000 donation from the charitable Trump Foundation. Both Trump and Bondi denied any wrongdoing. Bondi joined Trump's legal team during his first impeachment trial, in which he was alleged to have pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to find political dirt on his 2020 election opponent, Democrat Joe Biden. Trump was impeached by the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives but acquitted by the Republican-majority Senate. After the 2020 election, Bondi made television appearances on behalf of Trump and pushed to de-legitimize vote counting in battleground states as part of the push by the former president to overturn the results of the vote. Bondi has also criticized the criminal cases brought against Trump, appearing in solidarity at his New York trial, where he was convicted of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to a porn star. At Ballard Partners, Bondi has done work for Amazon, General Motors and Uber and as a registered lobbyist for the oil-rich Gulf nation of Qatar, according to press reports. She is also a member of the America First Policy Institute, a Trump-aligned right-wing think tank. cl/dw

The nomination must be confirmed by the Senate, which will be controlled by Republicans when Trump takes office Jan. 20. Rollins would succeed Tom Vilsack , President Joe Biden’s agriculture secretary who oversees the sprawling agency that controls policies, regulations and aid programs related to farming, forestry, ranching, food quality and nutrition. Rollins, who graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in agricultural development, is a longtime Trump associate who served as his former domestic policy chief. She is president and CEO of the America First Policy Institute, a group helping to lay the groundwork for a second Trump administration. Rollins, 52, previously served as an aide to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and ran a think tank, the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Listen now and subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | RSS Feed | SoundStack | All Of Our Podcasts Rollins’ pick completes Trump’s selection of the heads of executive branch departments, just two and a half weeks after the former president won the White House once again. Several other picks that are traditionally Cabinet-level remain, including U.S. Trade Representative and head of the small business administration. Trump didn’t offer many specifics about his agriculture policies during the campaign, but farmers could be affected if he carries out his pledge to impose widespread tariffs. During the first Trump administration, countries like China responded to Trump’s tariffs by imposing retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports like the corn and soybeans routinely sold overseas. Trump countered by offering massive multibillion-dollar aid to farmers to help them weather the trade war. President Abraham Lincoln founded the USDA in 1862, when about half of all Americans lived on farms. The USDA oversees multiple support programs for farmers; animal and plant health; and the safety of meat, poultry and eggs that anchor the nation’s food supply. Its federal nutrition programs provide food to low-income people, pregnant women and young children. And the agency sets standards for school meals. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, has vowed to strip ultraprocessed foods from school lunches and to stop allowing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program beneficiaries from using food stamps to buy soda, candy or other so-called junk foods. But it would be the USDA, not HHS, that would be responsible for enacting those changes. In addition, HHS and USDA will work together to finalize the 2025-2030 edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. They are due late next year, with guidance for healthy diets and standards for federal nutrition programs. ___ Gomez Licon reported from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma will be obtaining mobile counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems detection technology following mystery sightings in other states. Gov. Kevin Stitt on Monday announced he had directed Tim Tipton, public safety commissioner and homeland security adviser, to procure the systems to support state and local law enforcement in responding to recent unmanned drone activity. “Drones and unmanned aerial systems are an exciting new industry here in Oklahoma,” Stitt said. “We want to make sure that industry has room to thrive.” Because the technology is new, the state doesn’t have all the measures in place to ensure protection from those who wish to cause harm, Stitt said. “The activity happening in New Jersey and across the country is unsettling,” Tipton said in a statement. “While we’ve only had a few reports of drone activity in Oklahoma, we want to be ready in case the need arises.” Residents in New Jersey and other parts of the eastern United States have reported seeing unexplained drones in the sky recently, sparking concerns over who is operating them. The AP has reported that law enforcement doesn’t believe the drones are a public safety threat, though the FBI has asked residents to share any information, videos or photos they might have. Tipton was not available Monday to answer questions about the announcement, including how much the systems will cost to procure and where the funding will come. Federal law generally prohibits disabling or destroying any unmanned aerial systems because federal rules consider drones to be a form of aircraft. This prevents state and local law enforcement from any activity that would interfere with the flight of a drone, including shooting it down. With the detection systems, DPS can monitor and identify the drones without destroying them and ensure the state’s critical infrastructure is protected, officials said.BRAINERD — Have you been stuck indoors on recent winter days? The critters that live outdoors, especially birds, don’t have that luxury. They fluff their feathers for added insulation, and do their best to gather food to fuel their furnaces. ADVERTISEMENT So far, we experienced a relatively mild late fall, but we all know that’ll eventually change. So, do we kick back and complain, or do we fill bird feeders to attract our feathered friends during those gray days of winter. Feeding birds is no longer a hobby just for the enthusiastic birder watcher. Roughly 65 million people in the United States feed birds and we spend over $2 billion per year doing it. Besides, it’s cold outside and our birds need food to stay warm. In reality, most birds do just fine without assistance from humans. But we feed them regardless. When we peer out a window to watch a colorful cardinal dexterously use its heavy beak to remove the heart from a sunflower seed, we know we are feeding the birds more for our benefit than the birds. Watching birds like a cheery little chickadee with feathers fluffed against the cold on a subzero morning makes the long winter a little bit more bearable. To draw the greatest variety of bird species you’ll want to present them with several food options. A well-stocked back yard feeding station should include sunflower seeds, thistle seeds, safflower seeds, cracked corn, millet and suet. In order to dispense an array of feed, several types of feeders should be used. Suet can be placed in a wire basket, sunflower seeds in a standard gravity feeder, thistle in a tube feeder, and corn and other feed in a tray-like feeder placed on the ground for sparrows, juncos and other ground-feeding birds. With a spread like this, you can expect to attract black-capped chickadees, white-breasted nuthatches, blue jays, cardinals, downy and hairy woodpeckers, and several members of the finch family. The luckiest birders will spot red-breasted nuthatches, red-bellied woodpeckers, evening grosbeaks, purple finches, pine siskins and common redpolls. Bragging rights are earned by those who see pine grosbeaks, pileated woodpeckers and crossbills. You may attract additional species. Those species, of course, are just potential visitors. The habitat surrounding your home will dictate to a certain extent which birds will frequent your feeders. Early and late winter will see the addition of many more species that pause here while southward or northward bound. ADVERTISEMENT Try including the whole family in bird feeding. Get the children involved by making it their responsibility to keep the feeders filled. Buy them a field guide to birds and challenge them to identify as many species as they can. Soon they might be teaching you a thing or two. Much can be learned about the natural world by watching birds at back yard feeders. Best of all it can be done from the warmth of your home on blustery winter days. Feeding birds is not just for the gray-haired woman who lives down the block. Oh, and if you get a bird feeder for Christmas, don’t stash it in closet to be re-gifted next year. Below are a few tips you’ll want to keep in mind when feeding birds: BILL MARCHEL is a wildlife and outdoors photographer and writer whose work appears in many regional and national publications as well as the Brainerd Dispatch. Popular actor-turned-politician, John Dumelo, has won the Ayawaso West constituency election in Ghana on the platform of National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dumelo won by defeating his opponent from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a closely contested race. The actor first attempted to win the seat in 2020 but narrowly lost to Mrs. Lydia Alhassan of the NPP. In this year’s election, Dumelo garnered 47,560 votes, defeating incumbent Alhassan, who secured 39,214 votes. His campaign this time around captivated youths as it reflected a desire for social change, job creation, and empowerment for youth and women. Some key areas he promised to touch if elected include local infrastructure, education, and any sector that would provide opportunities for young people in the constituency. Speaking after he was declared winner, the actor said,“This victory is not just for me, but for the people of Ayawaso West. I am committed to ensuring that we build a stronger, more prosperous community together.” Dumelo has starred in so many movies and is a prominent face in Nollywood and Ghollywood. Some of his movies include 4Play, 40 Looks Good on You, A Northern Affair, Adams Apples, A Private Storm, A Night with Her, After the Wedding, Black Men Rock, Blackmoney, and Beautiful Ruins, to mention a fewWASHINGTON (AP) — As a former and potentially future president, Donald Trump hailed what would become Project 2025 as a road map for “exactly what our movement will do” with another crack at the White House. As the blueprint for a hard-right turn in America became a liability during the 2024 campaign, Trump pulled an about-face . He denied knowing anything about the “ridiculous and abysmal” plans written in part by his first-term aides and allies. Now, after being elected the 47th president on Nov. 5, Trump is stocking his second administration with key players in the detailed effort he temporarily shunned. Most notably, Trump has tapped Russell Vought for an encore as director of the Office of Management and Budget; Tom Homan, his former immigration chief, as “border czar;” and immigration hardliner Stephen Miller as deputy chief of policy . Those moves have accelerated criticisms from Democrats who warn that Trump's election hands government reins to movement conservatives who spent years envisioning how to concentrate power in the West Wing and impose a starkly rightward shift across the U.S. government and society. Trump and his aides maintain that he won a mandate to overhaul Washington. But they maintain the specifics are his alone. “President Trump never had anything to do with Project 2025,” said Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt in a statement. “All of President Trumps' Cabinet nominees and appointments are whole-heartedly committed to President Trump's agenda, not the agenda of outside groups.” Here is a look at what some of Trump's choices portend for his second presidency. The Office of Management and Budget director, a role Vought held under Trump previously and requires Senate confirmation, prepares a president's proposed budget and is generally responsible for implementing the administration's agenda across agencies. The job is influential but Vought made clear as author of a Project 2025 chapter on presidential authority that he wants the post to wield more direct power. “The Director must view his job as the best, most comprehensive approximation of the President’s mind,” Vought wrote. The OMB, he wrote, “is a President’s air-traffic control system” and should be “involved in all aspects of the White House policy process,” becoming “powerful enough to override implementing agencies’ bureaucracies.” Trump did not go into such details when naming Vought but implicitly endorsed aggressive action. Vought, the president-elect said, “knows exactly how to dismantle the Deep State” — Trump’s catch-all for federal bureaucracy — and would help “restore fiscal sanity.” In June, speaking on former Trump aide Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast, Vought relished the potential tension: “We’re not going to save our country without a little confrontation.” The strategy of further concentrating federal authority in the presidency permeates Project 2025's and Trump's campaign proposals. Vought's vision is especially striking when paired with Trump's proposals to dramatically expand the president's control over federal workers and government purse strings — ideas intertwined with the president-elect tapping mega-billionaire Elon Musk and venture capitalist Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a “Department of Government Efficiency.” Trump in his first term sought to remake the federal civil service by reclassifying tens of thousands of federal civil service workers — who have job protection through changes in administration — as political appointees, making them easier to fire and replace with loyalists. Currently, only about 4,000 of the federal government's roughly 2 million workers are political appointees. President Joe Biden rescinded Trump's changes. Trump can now reinstate them. Meanwhile, Musk's and Ramaswamy's sweeping “efficiency” mandates from Trump could turn on an old, defunct constitutional theory that the president — not Congress — is the real gatekeeper of federal spending. In his “Agenda 47,” Trump endorsed so-called “impoundment,” which holds that when lawmakers pass appropriations bills, they simply set a spending ceiling, but not a floor. The president, the theory holds, can simply decide not to spend money on anything he deems unnecessary. Vought did not venture into impoundment in his Project 2025 chapter. But, he wrote, “The President should use every possible tool to propose and impose fiscal discipline on the federal government. Anything short of that would constitute abject failure.” Trump's choice immediately sparked backlash. “Russ Vought is a far-right ideologue who has tried to break the law to give President Trump unilateral authority he does not possess to override the spending decisions of Congress (and) who has and will again fight to give Trump the ability to summarily fire tens of thousands of civil servants,” said Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, a Democrat and outgoing Senate Appropriations chairwoman. Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico, leading Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, said Vought wants to “dismantle the expert federal workforce” to the detriment of Americans who depend on everything from veterans' health care to Social Security benefits. “Pain itself is the agenda,” they said. Trump’s protests about Project 2025 always glossed over overlaps in the two agendas . Both want to reimpose Trump-era immigration limits. Project 2025 includes a litany of detailed proposals for various U.S. immigration statutes, executive branch rules and agreements with other countries — reducing the number of refugees, work visa recipients and asylum seekers, for example. Miller is one of Trump's longest-serving advisers and architect of his immigration ideas, including his promise of the largest deportation force in U.S. history. As deputy policy chief, which is not subject to Senate confirmation, Miller would remain in Trump's West Wing inner circle. “America is for Americans and Americans only,” Miller said at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Oct. 27. “America First Legal,” Miller’s organization founded as an ideological counter to the American Civil Liberties Union, was listed as an advisory group to Project 2025 until Miller asked that the name be removed because of negative attention. Homan, a Project 2025 named contributor, was an acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement director during Trump’s first presidency, playing a key role in what became known as Trump's “family separation policy.” Previewing Trump 2.0 earlier this year, Homan said: “No one’s off the table. If you’re here illegally, you better be looking over your shoulder.” John Ratcliffe, Trump's pick to lead the CIA , was previously one of Trump's directors of national intelligence. He is a Project 2025 contributor. The document's chapter on U.S. intelligence was written by Dustin Carmack, Ratcliffe's chief of staff in the first Trump administration. Reflecting Ratcliffe's and Trump's approach, Carmack declared the intelligence establishment too cautious. Ratcliffe, like the chapter attributed to Carmack, is hawkish toward China. Throughout the Project 2025 document, Beijing is framed as a U.S. adversary that cannot be trusted. Brendan Carr, the senior Republican on the Federal Communications Commission, wrote Project 2025's FCC chapter and is now Trump's pick to chair the panel. Carr wrote that the FCC chairman “is empowered with significant authority that is not shared” with other FCC members. He called for the FCC to address “threats to individual liberty posed by corporations that are abusing dominant positions in the market,” specifically “Big Tech and its attempts to drive diverse political viewpoints from the digital town square.” He called for more stringent transparency rules for social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube and “empower consumers to choose their own content filters and fact checkers, if any.” Carr and Ratcliffe would require Senate confirmation for their posts.

Gap Inc. Reports Third Quarter Fiscal 2024 Results, Raises Full Year OutlookSavion Williams rushed for two touchdowns and Josh Hoover threw for 252 yards as TCU pulled away from Arizona in the second half, winning 49-28 on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. The Horned Frogs (7-4, 5-3 Big 12) scored touchdowns on five consecutive possessions, starting late in the first half after the Wildcats (4-7, 2-6) pulled within 14-13. Williams carried nine times for 80 yards, scoring on runs of 1 and 20 yards in the first half. Hoover completed 19 of 26 passes, with one touchdown and one interception, before being pulled midway through the fourth quarter when the Frogs were up by 21. TCU took control after leading 21-13 at halftime, going up 35-13 on a 38-yard reception to JP Richardson midway through the third. Arizona kept its hopes alive, ending a 15-play, 75-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hunter on fourth down on the first play of the fourth quarter. The two-point conversion made it 35-21. But the Horned Frogs responded with another TD drive, capped by a 6-yard run by Cam Cook for a 42-21 advantage. Arizona added a 70-yard fumble return touchdown with one minute to go for the game's final score. Tetairoa McMillan caught nine passes for 115 yards to become the Arizona career leader in receiving yardage with 3,355. He surpassed his receivers coach, Bobby Wade (3,351), at the top spot. The Wildcats' Noah Fifita completed 29 of 44 passes for 284 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, which happened on the game's first snap. TCU promptly scored on a 4-yard run by Trent Battle, and Williams added a 1-yard TD run late in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead. But the Wildcats fought back, getting a 17-yard touchdown reception by Hunter and field goals of 53 and 43 yards from Tyler Loop to climb within 14-13 with 1:55 go before halftime. That's almost how the half ended, but the Horned Frogs converted third-and-18 on the ensuing drive and then gained 24 yards on third-and-25 to the Arizona 20. That set up a 20-yard run by Williams on fourth-and-1 with 13 seconds left for a 21-13 lead. --Field Level Media

Currently, only the US, China and Russia possess fifth-generation fighters deployed within their militaries. This article will explore these fighters a bit of their history and of course their capabilities. I will focus solely on fifth-generation aircraft that are currently in production and are still making their way into their respective militaries. About Fifth-generation fighters Fifth-generation fighter aircraft stand apart from previous generations due to their advanced stealth technology, advanced sensors and their compatibility to operate within a network-centric strategy and force, framework. As such, a fifth-generation fighter's sensors, computing and communication systems will allow it to gather exploit and transfer information at such a high level that it acts as a force multiplier for within its area of operations. The Su-57 program was initiated in 1999... Network-Centric Warfare refers to a military strategy that harnesses advanced information technologies in order to enhance the situational awareness and operational capabilities of a combat force. This mode of warfare integrates various sensors and systems into a cohesive network which facilitates real-time communication and information sharing, ultimately increasing the lethality of the force or joint-force. A look at the military aircraft designed to ensure “operational flexibility” for years to come. Fifth-generation fighters in production and deployment today The Russian Sukhoi Su-57 “Felon” The Su-57 is a twin engine multi-role aircraft, it was designed to succeed the Mig-29 and the Su-27. The Su-57 program was initiated in 1999 and, after repeated delays, the first models entered service with the Russian Aerospace Forces in December 2020. It was expected that the Su-57 would have up to 150 aircraft by 2025; however, approximately 20 aircraft have been built at this point. This aircraft is expected to have a service life of up to 35 years. The Su-57 is reportedly the first Russian aircraft to use stealth technology; it was designed to include a substantial amount of composite materials. This material represents 25% of the structural weight and almost 70% of the outer surface. Additionally, the Su-57 sports internal weapons bays, increasing its stealthy edge. Basic specifications for the Su-57 General Specifications Related Data Range 1,900 nautical miles Ceiling 66,000 ft. Top Speed 1,527 mph Maximum payload 22,046 lbs Details provided by UltimateSpecs While a pre-production prototype, poor workmanship on the Su-57 displayed in China has drawn ridicule. In spite of its advancements, Rand Corporation's analysis of this aircraft’s 360-degree sensor suit states that the system remains incomplete. This is likely the result of international sanctions placed on Russia following its 2014 invasion of Ukraine. The J-20, while highly maneuverable, it is heavier than the F-35 and F-22, yet it possesses stealth characteristics... In addition to this, the Su-57 lacks the sensor fusion of the F-35, which is arguably hard to measure up to, and the radar cross-section of the Su-57 is roughly the same as a fourth-generation fighter despite its improved stealth technology. This makes its radar cross-section 1000 times larger than an F-35. This has led some experts to state that the Su-57 isn’t a true fifth-generation aircraft, but this all depends on who you ask. The Chinese J-20 “Mighty Dragon” The J-20 is China’s answer to US fifth-generation fighter aircraft and is a centerpiece of their military modernization program (combined with their impressive naval advancements). The J-20, developed by Chengdu Aerospace Corp, is a twin-engine, single seat, multi-role jet that had its first flight in 2011. The J-20, while highly maneuverable, is heavier than the F-35 and F-22, yet it possesses stealth characteristics and an internal weapons bay. The J-20 is believed to have advanced avionics and sensors that provide enhanced situational awareness, advanced radar and tracking capability, and integrated electronic warfare systems. Basic Specifications for the J-20 General Specifications Related Data Range 3,418 mi. Ceiling 65,617 ft. Top Speed 1,522 mph Maximum Takeoff Weight 37,000 lbs Details provided by Globalmilitary.net In a war over Taiwan, most US and Japanese F-35s lost will likely be destroyed on the ground by missiles. However, it is difficult to verify the effectiveness of these systems as the J-20s performance capabilities are tightly guarded, and it has not been involved in any combat action to date. In sum the Department of Defense is seeking to procure 2,456 F-35s and US allies are expected to purchase hundreds more. Retired Gen. Hawk Carlisle, president and CEO of the National Defense Industrial Association and former commander of Air Combat Command, asserts that the J-20, based solely on the shape of its airframe, would be detected almost immediately by US fifth-generation aircraft. He states: “The J-20, in my estimation, would be dead long before it had the ability to maneuver against either the F-22 or the F-35,” he said. “It’s got enough spikes on it to where the radar returns on it are likely to be much more significant, which means that the F-22 and the F-35 can see it a lot farther away.” Whether or not the J-20 measures up to American fifth-generation aircraft or not, Beijing is doubling down on their continued development, purchase and integration into the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). Currently, the PLAAF is operating approximately 195 J-20s, with many more to come. The American F-35 Lightning II The Lockheed Martin F-35 is a strike fighter that first took flight in 2006. It is being produced in three variants: the F-35A for the Air Force, the F35B for the Marine Corps, and the F-35C for the Navy. Desired fleet numbers by branch: Air Force: 1,763 F-35As, conventional takeoff and landing Marine Corps: 353 F-35Bs, short takeoff and vertical landing Navy: 273 F-35Cs, specifically designed to operate from an aircraft carrier Details provided by the Congressional Research Service Basic Specifications for the F-35 General Specifications Related Data Range 1,350+ mi. Ceiling 50,000+ ft. Top Speed 1,200 mph Maximum Takeoff Weight 70,000 lbs Details provided by the USAF In sum, the Department of Defense is seeking to procure 2,456 F-35s and US allies are expected to purchase hundreds more. This will give the US and its allies a common aircraft, common tactical doctrine and a common logistics and spare parts system to support this aircraft, greatly increasing efficiency. With its unique stealthy design, the F-35 has a radar cross-section...roughly the size of a golf ball. The F-35's sensing capabilities The advanced sensors onboard the F-35 enable this aircraft to act as an aerial node for the sensing, processing and sharing of critical, mission sensitive data across the force in a theater of operations. According to Lockheed Martin , the F-35 sensor suite includes the following AN/APG-81 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar AN/ASQ-239 Electronic Warfare (EW)/Countermeasures (CM) system AN/AAQ-40 Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) AN/AAQ-37 Electro-Optical (EO) Distributed Aperture System (DAS) AN/ASQ-242 Communications, Navigation, and Identification (CNI) avionics suite. Once complete, the TR-3 will significantly boost the F-35's computing power, paving the way for more powerful upgrades. These five sensors provide the F-35 with incredible object detection and measurements in the radio frequency and infrared spectrum. This sensing capability allows the F-35 to gather, process, and disseminate more information about the surrounding environment than has ever been available on a fighter aircraft. Stealth The F-35 utilizes smooth, blended surfaces as well as sawtooth edges in addition to sharp internal angles. These features are all designed to minimize radar reflection. Like the previously mentioned aircraft the weapons of the F-35 are stored internally, however it has the ability to mount weapons externally if need be. With its unique stealthy design, the F-35 has a radar cross-section (RCS) of 0.0015 square meters, roughly the size of a golf ball. However, this pales in comparison to the F-22, which has an RCS of 0.0001~0.0002 square meters, or the size of a marble. Fifth-generation aircraft competing for supremacy Russia, China and the US all have their own variation of a fifth-generation aircraft, though it can be disputed if the Russian and Chinese aircraft truly constitute this designation, this is still debated. What is not debated is that China and the US have the production capacity and funding to push their respective fifth-generation aircraft into mass-production. Presently, the US has the lead in this regard, the F-35 is already integrated into allied militaries, deployed globally, and the F-35 is combat tested. What is interesting is that the Israel attack on Iran showcased the F-35's capabilities against a foreign state with capable air defenses. Israel entered Iranian airspace, destroyed sites related to their ballistic missile program, and destroyed air defenses and other targets, all without losing a single aircraft to Iran's Russian air defense systems. This could be seen as a green light to demonstrate to China the capabilities of US airpower by proxy, as China's air defenses are primarily copies of Russian systems. So, the Israeli attack could easily be seen as messaging to China. Moving to the J-20, which has yet to see combat and has not been sold to a foreign customer, much about this aircraft is still unknown. Yet, China will produce this aircraft in such great quantities that it will be able to more effectively compete for control of regional airspace with respect to other air forces in the East Asia region. For the foreseeable future, the F-35, F-22 and the J-20 will be competing for dominance in the skies over Asia as well as globally if China can begin exporting the J-20.LG USA ANNOUNCES CREATION OF 2025 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS EXCLUSIVELY FOR RUTGERS STUDENT-ATHLETES
