The majority of Gen Z workers are using generative A.I. tools in their jobs, according to a new survey. The Harris Poll and Google Workspace research also found a resounding 93 percent of those who identified as Gen Z used two or more tools on a weekly basis. And, 79 percent of millennials do the same. Google released the findings on Monday, and the organizations received responses from more than 1,000 U.S.-based “ knowledge workers ,” such as engineers, tech workers, analysts, and others whose main capital is what they know. The participants were between 22 and 39 years old and either have or aspire to hold a leadership role at work. “Our research shows that emerging leaders are adopting A.I. to increase their impact at work,” Yulie Kwon Kim, Google Workspace’s vice president of Product, said in a statement . “Rising leaders are not simply using A.I. as a tool for efficiency, but as a catalyst to help grow their careers.” The survey also found that 82 percent of those individuals are leveraging A.I. tools in their work, with 70 percent using the technology for drafting emails or helping overcome language barriers. When it comes to writing, 88 percent said that A.I. could help them use the right tone and 87 percent said it could make them more comfortable composing longer emails. Furthermore, 90 percent said they would be more confident joining meetings “on the go” if they knew A.I. was taking notes for them. Google also said its data shows how A.I. can help to scale business-critical skills, such as collaborating with others, communicating effectively, and leading a team. For example, 86 percent of respondents said A.I. could help make leaders become better managers, and 47 percent said it could aid communication to improve problem solving. Nearly all – 98 percent – anticipate that A.I. will have an impact on their industry or workplace within the next five years. “The future of work is here – and it’s A.I.-powered,” Kwon Kim added. “Rising leaders are not only advocating for A.I. – they’re deploying this technology in meaningful ways, from improving communication with colleagues to freeing up time for strategic work.” Google has major financial stakes in the success of A.I., and Google Workspace includes multiple A.I.-powered tools. Earlier this year, citing needs for new electricity sources to support A.I. technologies, Google said it would buy power from the nuclear energy company Kairos Power and expects to bring the first small modular reactor online by 2030. The announcement came after a similar move by Microsoft , as companies increasingly look for cleaner energy sources that can also meet surging demand from data centers and artificial intelligence. Hold your horses everyone as two new bills due to be passed in the Senate have now been blocked. Both the bill for the Golden Visa ban and a bill for fast-track squatter trials have encountered resistance in the Senate, having recently been approved by Congress. This 180-degree turnaround has come as a surprise, especially amid so much talk around how to manage the Golden Visa scheme after a ban is implemented. Now, the Senate – where Spain’s Popular Party (PP) holds an absolute majority – has approved a veto that sends the Bill on Judicial Efficiency tumbling back down to the lower house (Congress). This Judicial Efficiency Bill includes measures to enforce fast-track trials for squatter cases and the abolition of ‘Golden visas’, which has encountered resistance in the Senate, mainly due to incompetent management and organisation in the hands of the government. Most Read on Euro Weekly News Spanish banks will be forced to report every penny Southern Spain braces for Arctic front: Snow in some areas. Freezing temperatures for Spain as winter storm blasts Europe Squatter laws and Golden visa ban approved by Congress in November On November 14, the first stage of approving the two new measures seemed to be going in the right direction. It was approved by the Congress of Deputies, yet took a fatal blow when following a proposal by the PP (Partido Popular), the bill was vetoed by the Senate. According to the Spanish parliament’s Official Gazette dated December 2, this means the bill will return to Congress and they have the power to overturn the veto. Within the judicial bill, was the famous discontinuation of golden visas for investors purchasing properties worth over €500,000. Golden visas originally started under Mariano Rajoy’s leadership and their removal was planned for 2025. They have certainly materialised into a huge investment boom for the country, especially more recently. Between January and October this year, a mind-blowing 780 Golden visas were granted, with an average investment of €657,204. Since Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the termination of these visas in April, 573 permits have been issued. Amid pressures surrounding housing prices and availability, among other issues, a ban for Golden visas has been firmly on the political agenda. Regarding squatting – a huge and well-documented social problem in Spanish society recently – the legislation approved by Congress proposes handling offences of home invasion and unlawful occupation of property through a fast-track judicial procedure. This means that cases should be resolved within approximately 15 days, unlike current procedures which can be extremely lengthy and complex. Squatting law, if approved, would see illegal squatting as minor offence Plans included some tweaks to Article 795 of the Criminal Procedure Act, wherevy cases of illegal squatting would be added to the list of minor offences, rubbing shoulders with similar crimes including theft and burglary. Some have praised the move as a step forward in tackling squatting whereas others have condemned the lack of legal impetus to deal with “tenant squatting” (inquiokupación). As in the case of any situation where a rival party vetoes a leader’s proposals, some may say that this is a chance for PP to expose leading political party, PSOE for its ‘incompetence.’ After all, PP did make a song and dance about the government failing to employ “proper legislative drafting techniques” and a lack of “planning and organisation.” PP also claims that trying to approve two legislative projects surrounding the same laws and themes simultaneously, is simply haphazard. It could create “confusion, chaos, and a serious attack on legal certainty.” It has advocated for citizens’ rights, purporting that the government’s rather clumsy execution of such legislation could leave citizens disadvantaged by what it has termed a “hodgepodge of uncoordinated legislative amendments.” Read more about Spain'Emilia Pérez' leads Golden Globe nominations with 10, followed by 'The Brutalist' and 'Conclave'

(The Center Square) — New York City has received a green light from the Biden administration to implement a retooled congestion pricing program, but the plan still faces lawsuits from opponents and anticipated pushback from incoming President-elect Donald Trump. Last Thursday, the Federal Highway Administration approved the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's plan, which Gov. Kathy Hochul resurrected earlier this month with a reduced base fare of $9 – down from the original plan of $15. The program will go into effect on Jan. 5, just days before Trump takes over the presidency. "We are pleased to have received formal approval from the Federal Highway Administration for the phase-in feature of the Central Business District Tolling Program,” Catherine Sheridan, president of MTA Bridges and Tunnels/Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, said in a statement. The controversial tolling program, which was originally set to start June 30, called for a $15 toll on drivers entering the core of Manhattan to generate about $1 billion annually for public transit system upgrades. But in June, Hochul abruptly hit the brakes on congestion pricing, announcing that she directed the MTA to "indefinitely" pause the program. She cited the impact on commuters who would be forced to pay higher tolls. To be sure, the new congestion pricing tolls will eventually increase to the original $15 by 2031, according to the Hochul administration. The MTA said the plan includes discounts for low-income drivers making less than $50,000 annually. These drivers will receive a 50% discount after hitting their 10th toll each month. Meanwhile, the plan faces an uncertain future with several lawsuits, including one filed by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and another by the New York Trucking Association, challenging the higher tolling system in state and federal court. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER "While political leadership is now saying the right things about bringing down the cost of living in the state, New Yorkers should not be fooled by the rhetoric: this new congestion pricing plan is still bad for the economy, will still cause supply chain disruptions, and will still raise the price of goods upon which households across the five boroughs and its surrounding suburbs rely," Kendra Hems, the Trucking Association's president, said in a statement. Trump, a Republican and native New Yorker, has pledged to "terminate" the program when he takes over the White House in January. Trump's pick to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, former New York congressman Lee Zelden, railed against congestion pricing during his 2022 gubernatorial run.
