After losing their first game of the season to the Buffalo Bills in Week 11 , the Kansas City Chiefs barely got past the Carolina Panthers 30-27 last Sunday on the road. Kansas City enjoyed one of its best days on the ground, with 165 rushing yards against Carolina despite the close finish. Kareem Hunt led the way with 68 yards on 16 carries and Patrick Mahomes added another 60 yards on five scrambles. Even with that high yardage total, Kansas City ranks 18th in the league in rushing this season. The Chiefs have had to work with Hunt, Carson Steele , and Samaje Perine at the running back position following a severe leg injury to last year's leading rusher, Isiah Pacheco . Pacheco was designated to return from injured reserve two weeks ago, opening a 21-day window for him to play for the Chiefs. He initially looked set to play against Carolina but was eventually held out of the game. Here's the latest on his status this week as the Chiefs return home to host the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday . NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more. Will Isiah Pacheco play this week? Yes. Kansas City coach Andy Reid confirmed Wednesday that Pacheco will be back in the lineup against the Raiders, barring any significant setbacks. Pacheco was a full-go in practice last week and was a full participant again on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the team's Friday game. Kansas City is also expecting defensive lineman Charles Omenihu back from injury for this week's game as well. Isiah Pacheco injury Pacheco was injured in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals on a 1-yard carry on the final drive of the game. He was sandwiched by three Bengals defenders and Steele closed the game out at running back for the Chiefs. Pacheco was later seen with crutches and in a walking boot. He was later diagnosed with a fractured fibula, which typically takes between four and eight weeks to heal. His 10-week break is a bit longer than expected, and implies it was a severe fracture. Chiefs RB depth chart Hunt has been the primary ball-carrier out of the backfield for the Chiefs since Pacheco's injury. Here's how the depth chart has looked with him out: One of those players will likely be demoted to the practice squad with Pacheco's return, likely Edwards-Helaire. Keaontay Ingram is currently the only running back signed to the practice squad at time of publishing. Sole auction participant can't be declared 'winning' bidder: High courtBenjamin Franklin wanted a turkey for the National Bird. The 40-pound bruiser tom hailing from a McCleod County farm that hopped atop the table Tuesday at the State Capitol probably thought the Founding Father was talking about him. “Ahh-yeah,” cheered Gov. Tim Walz, in a laid-back sweater vest and blazer, at the annual Thanksgiving ceremony in the oil-painting-adorned reception room. “If you speak at the Worthington Turkey Day event...you have to kiss the turkey.” No one dared get any closer. Tuesday marked the return of Minnesota farm country’s favorite anticlimactic moment: when state officials recognize, but don’t spare, a turkey from his seasonal dinner-plate fate. Unlike the two lucky birds from Northfield that flew to Washington D.C. this week for high-thread-count sheets at the Willard Intercontinental and a Monday morning pardoning by President Joe Biden at the White House, the turkey named “Tom” by his FFA handler, Paisley VonBerge, and who spread wide his wings for a couple emphatic sweeps before staring down First Lady Gwen Walz, will accept a more traditional turkey fate. “After today, this turkey will go back to my farm to be enjoyed the way turkeys were intended to be enjoyed,” Paisley said. It’s unclear the origin of this Minnesota Nice tradition , though it’s prized in a state with more turkey producers, and processors, than anywhere across the country. Still, Tuesday’s ceremony had added political weight, as the governor, who just weeks ago drew the white-hot spotlight of a U.S. presidential race, continues to return to the ordinary, sometimes mundane ceremonies of running a state. “They do it differently in D.C.,” Walz said, referring to Biden’s pardon. “Here in Minnesota we know turkeys are delicious.” Walz appeared jovial, joking about racing turkeys in Worthington and alluding to a lake near Hutchinson where he and his wife were married. For the second consecutive day, the state’s chief executive, who campaigned since early August as running mate to Vice President Kamala Harris in her ultimately foiled bid for the presidency, took questions from the press behind a podium. Topics ranged from a judge who halted Minnesota’s cannabis business license lottery to mining in northern Minnesota to whether he was regretful for joining Harris. “No regrets,” he said, noting the Harris-Walz ticket campaigned on a message “that 75 million Americans liked, but not quite enough.” On Monday evening, President-elect Donald Trump announced on social media his plan to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China, a move that could draw retaliation. Speaking beside Walz on Tuesday, Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Thom Peterson noted 74% of the state’s agriculture exports are to Mexico. “Our main partners are always Mexico and Canada,” Petersen said. Asked whether the DFL losing full control of the state House was a verdict on DFL governance, Walz said, “I see a very close and divided country.” It’s also a country that largely comes together for Thanksgiving, for football, a balloon parade in New York City, and turkey, even if the red-wattled, strange-footed, flightless bird never scaled to the heights of the bald eagle.Things to watch this week in the Southeastern Conference. No. 7 Alabama (No. 7 CFP) at Oklahoma, Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC) It's the first regular-season meeting since 2003 between traditional college football heavyweights who have combined for 25 national titles and usually face off in January bowl games with championship implications. Another fun fact: They've only played once each on the other's home field in six lifetime matchups, with the Sooners winning that showdown 20-13 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Alabama won the most recent postseason meeting, 45-34, at the Orange Bowl in the 2018 College Football Playoff semifinal before falling to Clemson in the championship. Another berth in the 12-team playoff is at stake for the visiting Crimson Tide (8-2, 4-2 SEC, No. 7 CFP), which trails No. 3 Texas and No. 15 Texas A&M by a game in the standings and is among four two-loss teams trying to stay within reach and possibly get to next month's championship in Atlanta. Alabama has won three in a row overall including last week's 52-7 rout of Mercer, rolling up 508 yards on offense. Heisman Trophy candidate Jalen Milroe passed for 186 of his 229 yards from scrimmage and two of his three touchdowns. Milroe's 32 total TDs lead the SEC and he's second with 17 rushing scores. Rather than contending as hoped, SEC newcomer Oklahoma (5-5, 1-5) is instead playing spoiler after four losses in five games, against ranked league foes Texas, No. 19 South Carolina and No. 9 Ole Miss. The Sooners scored two late fourth-quarter touchdown to lead Missouri 23-16 two weeks ago before the host Tigers scored two TDs in the final 1:07 seconds for a 30-23 victory. Alabama is a 14-point favorite according to BetMGM. No. 9 Ole Miss (8-4, 4-2, No. 9 CFP) at Florida (5-5, 3-4), Saturday, Noon ET (ABC) The Rebels have won three in a row since falling at LSU and four of five overall. They're coming off a bye after beating then-No. 3 Georgia 28-10 on Nov. 9 and look to stay within reach of first place and remain in the CFP discussion. Florida upended No. 21 LSU 27-16 on Saturday to earn a signature win for embattled coach Billy Napier and reach the cusp of bowl eligibility after finishing 5-7 last fall. Also worth a look: Vanderbilt (6-4, 3-3) at LSU (6-4, 3-3). Both are bowl eligible, but the Commodores can clinch their first .500 SEC finish since going 4-4 in 2013 and help coach Clark Lea match his win total for the past two seasons combined. The Tigers look to regroup from the Florida loss. No. 15 Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed. Reed is 4-1 as a starter for an Aggies team that visits Auburn hoping to stay in the playoff hunt before the regular season finale against in-state rival Texas. Reed has passed for 1,129 yards and nine touchdowns against two interceptions. He has run for 375 yards and six scores. The Tigers have had some struggles against dual-threat quarterbacks like Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia and Arkansas' Taylen Green. Vanderbilt will play in LSU's Tiger Stadium for the first time since 2009, having played in Nashville three times since. The Commodores' last win over LSU came in 1990 and they haven't won in Baton Rouge since 1951. ... First-year Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer is 34-2 in the month of November, including a 10-0 mark since 2022. ... Kentucky's 107th-ranked offense (340.5 yards per game) faces Texas's No. 1-ranked defense, which is giving up just 249 yards a game. ... Texas A&M has held opponents to 100 or fewer rushing yards in five of the last seven games, including holding LSU to 24 yards on 23 attempts. ... Auburn QB Payton Thorne has only three touchdown passes in his last four SEC games. ... Mississippi State's Isaac Smith leads the SEC and is tied for seventh nationally with 101 total tackles. ... Kentucky is 3-0 in nonconference games after shellacking in-state foe Murray State 48-3, which followed four SEC home losses. AP Sports Writer John Zenor contributed to this report. Gruene is going green. Well, electrically speaking. Terry Fredrickson, a local entrepreneur, has purchased electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that will be installed and open to the public on Friday, Dec. 6. The solar charging unit will be located off Hunter Road in the rear parking lot behind where Gruene Market Days is held, Fredrickson said. They are designed to support two “Level 2” chargers and are 100% green. Fredrickson got the idea back in September when he was driving his own electric vehicle around Dallas. “I found the BEAM Solar Charger to be located very close to where I was staying, and I really liked the concept because of my background in solar engineering,” he said. “I was always intrigued with solar energy and wrote a thesis my senior year of high school called, ‘Here Comes the Sun... Let’s Use It!’ Thereafter, I went on to earn an engineering degree in solar and have always had an appreciation for the technology — especially photovoltaic because power is produced without pollution. The efficiency of the solar cells is way beyond my college days, now achieving nearly 25%, which is fantastic!” Fredrickson said he has already heard from locals about how excited they are for this project and he has even begun working on his next. “I’m currently working with another property owner and NBU to install a DC Fast Charger for those who need to expedite their replenishment. This will be a dual 120 kilowatt, thereby accommodating two vehicles simultaneously, again walking distance to downtown Gruene,” he said. He hopes that by having the charging stations near downtown Gruene, it will bring more visitors to the local businesses. “I hope that visitors to Gruene will take advantage of the convenience to our local accommodations, restaurants, venues and attractions while charging their vehicles. The solar component adds an extra dimension by going ‘green in Gruene,” he said. “I’m excited about having the first EV chargers in Gruene and meeting other enthusiasts as they visit our popular destination. Heck, maybe Elon will come enjoy Gruene sometime while charging his Tesla truck.”Trump brings back government by social media
LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was injured and substituted off in the second half of his team's 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday. The France international pulled up sharply as he chased the ball and fell to ground, holding the back of his left leg after appearing to hurt his hamstring. He was briefly treated by Madrid's medical staff before instructions were sent to the bench to bring on a replacement and Dani Ceballos came on as a substitute in the 57th minute at Anfield. Camavinga was able to walk off the field but limped as he made his way to the locker room. The 22-year-old Camavinga sustained knee injuries last season that ruled him out for long periods of the campaign. The loss left Madrid in danger of being eliminated at the first phase of the new-look Champions League. The defending champion is 24th in the standings, which is the last playoff spot for the round of 16, with the top eight advancing automatically. American Airlines has announced it's expanding their new technology to end a process known as "gate lice," which is when passengers cut lines in hopes of boarding a flight early. The system audibly flags when a passenger attempts to board the plane before their designated assignment is called and will automatically reject the ticket. American Airlines first piloted the technology last month at Albuquerque International Sunport in New Mexico, Tucson International Airport in Arizona and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. It will now expand to more than 100 airports ahead of the holiday season. NoneA little-known Florida-based drones company said on Wednesday it had appointed Donald Trump Jr as an adviser – then saw its stock price surge. “Don Jr joining our board of advisors provides us unique expertise we need as we bring drone component manufacturing back to America,” said Allan Evans, chief executive of Unusual Machines. By mid-morning on the New York stock exchange, company shares had climbed as high as $11.67, more than double the day’s opening price. Unusual Machines also said Trump Jr, the oldest son of the president-elect, was among its investors. A filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission listed Trump Jr as the second-biggest shareholder. In a press release that described Trump Jr as “a globally recognized business leader” and “best-selling author”, Evans said he would “bring a wealth of experience”. Trump, typically referred to as Don Jr, has spent most of his adult life working for his father’s company, the Trump Organization, on real estate and branding. But he has risen to political prominence since his sister Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner , distanced themselves from Donald Trump following his defeat by Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election and incitement of the January 6 attack on Congress by Trump supporters who tried in vain to overturn his loss. This year, Trump Jr was widely held to have helped steer the Ohio senator, JD Vance , onto the Republican ticket which defeated the Democratic ticket of the vice-president, Kamala Harris and her running mate and Minnesota governor, Tim Walz . On Wednesday, Trump Jr said: “The need for drones is obvious. It is also obvious that we must stop buying Chinese drones and Chinese drone parts. I love what Unusual Machines is doing to bring drone manufacturing jobs back to the USA.” That was in line with statements from his father the president-elect, who has long said he will impose hefty tariffs on Chinese imports. Unusual Machines, however, says in its SEC filing it “has been heavily dependent on Chinese imports for our products and operations”. Referring to brands of drones and equipment, it said: “A substantial majority of Rotor Riot’s products are manufactured, directly and indirectly, using Chinese vendors. Fat Shark’s primary contract manufacturer is Shenzhen Fat Shark Technology Ltd ... which is located in Shenzhen, China.” Unusual Machines did not immediately comment further.
DENVER (AP) — So you're the most valuable player of that annual Thanksgiving Day backyard flag football game. Or played tackle football on any level. Or ran track. Or dabbled in basketball. Or toyed with any sport, really. Well, this may be just for you: USA Football is holding talent identification camps all over the country to find that next flag football star. It's “America’s Got Talent” meets “American Idol,” with the stage being the field and the grand prize a chance to compete for a spot on a national team. Because it’s never too early to start planning for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, where flag football will make its Summer Games debut. Know this, though — it's not an easy team to make. The men's and women's national team rosters are at “Dream Team” status given the men’s side has captured six of the last seven world championships and the women three in a row. To remain on top, the sport's national governing body is scouring every football field, park, track, basketball court and gym to find hidden talent to cultivate. USA Football has organized camps and tryouts from coast to coast for anyone ages 11 to 23. There are more than a dozen sites set up so far, ranging from Dallas (Sunday) to Chicago (Dec. 14) to Tampa (March 29) to Los Angeles (TBD) and the Boston area (April 27), where it will be held at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. The organization has already partnered with the NFL on flag football initiatives and programs. The numbers have been through the roof, with engagement on social media platforms increasing by 86% since flag football was announced as an Olympic invitational sport in October 2023 . The participation of boys and girls ages 6 to 17 in flag football last year peaked at more than 1.6 million, according to USA Football research. “We pride ourselves on elevating the gold standard across the sport,” said Eric Mayes, the managing director of the high performance and national teams for USA Football. “We want to be the best in the world — and stay the best in the world.” Flag football was one of five new sports added to the LA28 program. The already soaring profile of American football only figures to be enhanced by an Olympic appearance. Imagine, say, a few familiar faces take the field, too. Perhaps even NFL stars such as Tyreek Hill or Patrick Mahomes, maybe even past pro football greats donning a flag belt for a country to which they may have ties. Soon after flag football's inclusion, there was chatter of NFL players possibly joining in on the fun. Of course, there are logistical issues to tackle before their inclusion at the LA Olympics, which open July 14, 2028. Among them, training camp, because the Olympics will be right in the middle of it. The big question is this: Will owners permit high-priced players to duck out for a gold-medal pursuit? No decisions have yet been made on the status of NFL players for the Olympics. For now, it's simply about growing the game. There are currently 13 states that sanction girls flag football as a high school varsity sport. Just recently, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles helped pave the way to get it adopted in Pennsylvania. Around the world, it's catching on, too. The women's team from Japan took third at the recent word championships, while one of the best players on the planet is Mexico quarterback Diana Flores . “Could flag football globally become the new soccer? That’s something to aspire to," said Stephanie Kwok , the NFL's vice president of flag football. This type of flag football though, isn't your Thanksgiving Day game with family and friends. There's a learning curve. And given the small roster sizes, versatility is essential. Most national team members need to be a version of Colorado’s two-way standout and Heisman hopeful Travis Hunter. Forget bump-and-run coverage, too, because there's no contact. None. That took some adjusting for Mike Daniels, a defensive back out of West Virginia who earned a rookie minicamp invitation with the Cleveland Browns in 2017. “If a receiver is running around, I’m thinking, ‘OK, I can kind of bump him here and there and nudge him,’” Daniels explained. “They’re like, ‘No, you can’t.’ I’m just like, ‘So I’m supposed to let this guy just run?!’ I really rebelled at the idea at first. But you learn.” The competition for an Olympic roster spot is going to be fierce because only 10 players are expected to make a squad. The best 10 will earn it, too, as credentials such as college All-American or NFL All-Pro take a backseat. “I would actually love" seeing NFL players try out, said Daniels, who's also a personal trainer in Miami. “I’m not going to let you just waltz in here, thinking, ‘I played NFL football for five years. I’m popular. I have a huge name.’ I’m still better than you and I'm going to prove it — until you prove otherwise.” Around the house, Bruce Mapp constantly swivels his hips when turning a hallway corner or if his daughter tries to reach for a hug. It’s his way of working on avoiding a “defender” trying to snare the flag. That approach has earned the receiver out of Coastal Carolina four gold medals with USA Football. The 31-year-old fully plans on going for more gold in Los Angeles. “You grow up watching Usain Bolt (win gold) and the ‘Redeem Team’ led by Kobe Bryant win a gold medal, you're always thinking, ‘That's insane.' Obviously, you couldn't do it in your sport, because I played football," said Mapp, who owns a food truck in the Dallas area. "With the Olympics approaching, that (gold medal) is what my mind is set on." It's a common thought, which is why everything — including talent camps — starts now. “Everybody thinks, ‘Yeah, the U.S. just wins,’” Daniels said. “But we work hard all the time. We don’t just walk in. We don’t just get off the bus thinking, ‘We’re going to beat people.’” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl and https://twitter.com/AP_NFLExperts recommend using TMF to focus on product — not project — delivery
