Joey Logano has seen and heard it all when it comes to his NASCAR Cup Series championship win this season, the third of his career. “Not a true champion,” and “Mickey Mouse” are just a couple of things fired Logano’s way in the aftermath of his victory in the season finale at Phoenix. Despite winning four races, three coming during the 10-race postseason, Logano finished the season with an average finish of 17.1, the worst of any driver in a championship-winning season. The legitimacy of both Logano’s championship, as well as the playoff system, has come into question as a result. But at this point, Logano doesn’t give much of a you know what. Speaking with Kenny Wallace on the latest “ Kenny Conversation ,” Logano called out his critics, telling them to “kiss my a**.” The “ @Kenny_Wallace Conversation” with @joeylogano is up now on YouTube! The now 3-time #nascar cup champ told some awesome stories & defended his title vs some of the online “haters” pic.twitter.com/E4S6l2tnPw Joey Logano sounds off on those questioning legitimacy of NASCAR Cup Series championship “The playoffs are here because everyone complained about it being a full season for one and it wasn’t exciting enough,” Logano said. “... Now, we got a system which I think is like freaking awesome. I love it. As a race fan, it is intense, it is pressure packed, it is do or die, people are willing to do the craziest things to try to win and we’re gonna complain about that now too? C’mon guys. I don’t really know how to explain how frustrated I get when I hear some of the stuff. I’m on social media, I see it — not a true champion, Mickey Mouse all this stuff — bottom line is we won three of the last 10 races. Pretty solid. We had five wins on the season, I kind of count Richmond a little bit even though we didn’t win but that was pretty dang close. The guy that wrecked me didn’t win the race either, so I don’t know. “I look at that like that’s almost a six-win season. That’s solid. To say we’re not a true champion, you better get checked out. We showed up when it mattered the most and that is the same as any other playoff system in any other sport. ... You can have a great regular season, and it will set you up better for the playoffs. It definitely does, there’s no doubt. Win the regular season championship, you get 15 points. You win more races, you get five each one. You win a stage, you get one point. Joey Logano’s even year magic continues in 2024 “All of that matters a lot because there’s a three-race series. Those guys showed up. The 45 [Tyler Reddick], the 5 [Kyle Larson], the 11 [Denny Hamlin] — those guys showed up with like 30 more points than me in every round. We had to overcome that. We started behind all of them. The facts are that they didn’t have a good playoff. If they didn’t have those playoff points, they’re not getting to the Round of 8. The 45 barely made it in at the Roval. If he didn’t have the playoff points, he’s not in. “So, my point is, it helped them get all the way to the Championship 4 when they did not have a solid nine races before that at all. We beat all of them, pretty much. I’m not taking anything away from them, but my point is the regular season matters so much, and we had to play behind the eight ball the whole time. We still had the opportunity to win the championship even though we didn’t have a great regular season. But we got hot when it mattered, we won the races that mattered and we won the championship because of that. And if you don’t like that, you can kiss my a**. That’s how I feel about it.” Logano has simply mastered the elimination style playoff format, adopted back in 2014. He joined elite company with his latest triumph, becoming just the 10th driver to win three or more Cup Series championships. Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The results are in and TOWIE’s Pete Wicks has missed out on a place in the Strictly Come Dancing final after becoming the eleventh celebrity to leave the show. Pete and his partner Jowita Przystal faced the dance-off against Love Island star Tasha Ghouri and her professional dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec. The stars faced their biggest challenge yet with two dances in the semi-final. For the dance-off, Tasha and Aljaz performed their waltz whilst Pete and Jowita danced their tango again - but it wasn’t enough to save them. Judges Craig Revel Horwood , Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all chose to save Tasha who had received a perfect score during Saturday night’s show. When asked about his time on the competition, Pete told Tess Daly : “It’s been wild. I’ve been quite honest about the fact that I didn’t necessarily want to do this in the first place, but everyone else wanted me to do it, and I am so, so glad that I did it. You don’t always have to be the best, but if you enjoy something then why shouldn’t you have a go at it? I’ve tried my best from day one, I said I was in for a penny, in for a pound and I’ve done it – it’s been beautiful.” Pete continued to talk about his partner Jowita, who he had nothing but high praise for. “There’s a lot of things I’m going to take away from this, but one of the most special things is you, and I mean that, because you’re one of the most incredible people – not just as a dancer – but as a person. You’ve been a ray of sunshine for me. You’ve helped me through things in the past three months that I didn’t think I could do and you made me believe in myself and that means more to me than anything.” Jowita praised the reality star for all his “hard work and commitment” every week calling every dance “special”. Fans took to social media after the results and most were pleased to see who had made it through to the last week. One wrote: “Finally the correct result and we have our correct final 4 for the final. Pete can leave with his head held high for how far he's come in this competition. This week was his best week but sadly his standard of dancing just wasn't as high as the others.” Another added: “Tasha being in the dance off is wrong but so happy he’s gone”. A third wrote: “Finally. The right final 4.” However one was sad to see Pete go, they said: “I'm gutted! Pete has done so extremely well. Chris for the win now!” The remaining four celebrities, JB Gill , Tasha Ghouri , Sarah Hadland and Chris McCausland will take to the dance floor next weekend with their partners for the competition’s grand final where they will each perform three dances; their favourite dance of the series, the judge’s pick and a show dance. Watch the Strictly Come Dancing final on Saturday December 14, 6pm, BBC One.

The first was already a given for the draft-eligible junior who plays both receiver and cornerback. A Michigan State true freshman defensive back who showed promise while starting this season is looking to transfer. Safety Jaylen Thompson told Spartans Illustrated on Friday he will enter the portal with the plan of being closer to home due to health issues within his family. He is a former three-star recruit from Murfreesboro, Tenn. Thompson had 17 tackles and a pass break-up in six games with three starts this season. He was carted off the field during last week’s season-ending loss to Rutgers and, following the game, was in concussion protocol, coach Jonathan Smith said. Thompson is the fourth Michigan State scholarship player to declare his intent to transfer this week. The others are defensive end Ken Talley and wide receivers Jaron Glover and Aziah Johnson. The portal opens on Monday and closes on Dec. 28. Thompson has three seasons of eligibility remaining. After being an early enrollee, Thompson didn’t play the first four games this season before Michigan State’s secondary was gutted by injuries and he started the final three games. He logged a total of 162 defensive snaps and also played on special teams.

Things to do in the San Gabriel Valley, Whittier, Nov. 29-Dec. 6LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers’ signing of Blake Snell became official Saturday, adding the two-time Cy Young Award winner to front a starting rotation stocked with question marks. Snell, who will turn 32 next week, agreed to a five-year, $182 million contract that includes a $52 million signing bonus and $65 million in deferred salary. That deal was pending a physical which Snell passed. The 2018 American League Cy Young Award winner with the Tampa Bay Rays, Snell won the National League Cy Young in 2023 after going 14-9 with a 2.25 ERA for the San Diego Padres. He became a free agent last winter but stayed on the market well into March looking for a long-term deal that never materialized despite his Cy Young history. The Dodgers were involved with Snell at one point before he signed a two-year, $62 million contract with the San Francisco Giants that included an opt-out clause. He exercised that opt-out after going 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA in an injury-interrupted season with the Giants. He had 145 strikeouts and just 44 walks in 104 innings. But he made just 20 starts due to two trips to the injured list with a groin injury (likely related to his late signing affecting his preparation for the season). The 20 starts were his fewest in a full season since his rookie year in 2016 (19 starts). Snell goes to the front of a rotation that includes a number of players returning from injury and/or surgery. Shohei Ohtani is expected to return to pitching after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery in September 2023. But his return to the mound will be delayed by surgery on his non-throwing shoulder following the World Series. Yoshinobu Yamamoto finished the 2024 season healthy but missed three months with a rotator cuff strain. Neither he nor Ohtani will be asked to pitch on less than five days of rest and the Dodgers are planning to go with a six-man rotation in 2025. Related Articles Tyler Glasnow’s 2024 season ended early with an elbow injury and his status for 2025 is uncertain. Tony Gonsolin will be returning from Tommy John surgery. Dustin May did not pitch in 2024 while recovering from his own elbow surgery and a torn esophagus. Emmet Sheehan is expected back at some point in 2025 after his Tommy John surgery. Clayton Kershaw is expected to re-sign at some point. But he underwent foot and knee surgeries in November and is not likely to be available for a full season. Walker Buehler and Jack Flaherty are free agents. The Dodgers will start the 2025 season early again with another trip to Asia. They are scheduled to open the regular season with two games against the Chicago Cubs on March 18 and 19 in Tokyo.

Oregon already secured its spot in the Big Ten championship game, but the top-ranked Ducks have plenty to play for in their regular-season finale. Revenge may be on Oregon's mind when the Ducks host longtime rival Washington on Saturday in Eugene, Ore. Oregon (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) would perhaps be closing in on its second straight College Football Playoff appearance had the Huskies (6-5, 4-4) not dealt the Ducks their only two losses last season. Washington edged Oregon 36-33 in Seattle last October, then slipped past the Ducks 34-31 in the Pac-12 title game to secure a playoff spot for the second time in school history. Both teams joined the Big Ten in August. Third-year Oregon head coach Dan Lanning is 33-5 leading the Ducks. But he remains winless against the Huskies (0-3). Oregon plots to sprint out of its late-season bye after using time to heal injuries, but Lanning doesn't believe the break should stall the flow of an undefeated season. "It's always about what we're able to do on the field. Motivation is overrated," Lanning said. "Our guys have to want to go out there and execute at a really high level. Since the beginning of the season we've talked about playing our best football at the end of November. We're there. This is our opportunity to go play our best football against a good team." The Ducks could have star wide receiver Tez Johnson back from a shoulder injury this week. Johnson has missed the past two games. That would be good news for quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who would regain the team's leader in receptions (64), receiving yards (649) and receiving touchdowns (eight). Washington, under first-year head coach Jedd Fisch, is 63-48-5 all-time against Oregon but is just 1-12-1 when facing the No. 1-ranked team in the country. The Huskies are led on offense by running back Jonah Coleman, who has racked up 1,008 yards and nine scores on the ground this season. Coleman averages 5.8 yards per carry and has 36 runs of at least 10 yards. In the passing game, wide receiver Denzel Boston is tied for the Big Ten lead with nine in touchdown catches and ranks sixth in the conference with 764 receiving yards. Whom Boston will be catching passes from is not yet known, however. Washington has not revealed whether Will Rogers or Demond Williams Jr. will start at quarterback. Rogers has started every game for the Huskies but was benched in favor of Williams two weeks ago after throwing a pair of interceptions in a 31-19 win over UCLA. Fisch said he has a "good idea" of how he will use his quarterbacks on Saturday, and while he wouldn't go as far as to name a starter, he did say Rogers responded well in practices last week. "On the same token, Demond's energy and Demond's confidence showed up. His ability to jump right in and feel really good about leading the group whenever it was his turn... he did a really nice job there as well," Fisch told Seattle Sports. "I think both guys responded well to the week of practice, and now, really, it's important for us that the guy we believe will start the game gets a significant amount of reps in practice week. But as you know, we're not afraid to play two quarterbacks." --Field Level Media

Syria latest: Syrians celebrate in the streets as Russian media says Assad has arrived in MoscowEPL: ‘They’re Liverpool’s biggest threat’ – Merson snubs Arsenal, Man City in title raceIreland vote points to status quo but PM faces support dropMANCHESTER, England (AP) — Pep Guardiola committed himself to Manchester City for another two years on Thursday and quickly set his sights on adding to his record-breaking reign. Guardiola ended uncertainty about his future by signing a contract extension that would prolong his tenure as City manager to 11 seasons. “I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for," said the 53-year-old Catalan coach, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of this season. "Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.” Guardiola has overseen a period of unprecedented dominance since joining City in 2016. He has gone on to win six Premier League titles in seven years at the Etihad Stadium and also won the Champions League. In total, he has won 15 major trophies at the club. He has set new benchmarks, with City becoming the first team to win four-straight English league titles and the first to amass 100 points in a single season in 2018. He also led City to the treble in 2023, winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in one season — matching Manchester United's achievement in 1999. “Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here. We have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club,” Guardiola added in his statement. “That is why I am so happy to be staying for another two more seasons.” Publicly, Guardiola gave no indication about whether he would stay on even as he entered the final months of his contract. That led to speculation about potential successors, but City remained hopeful he could be convinced to sign another extension. He has already managed City for longer than any his former clubs, having spent four years at Barcelona and three at Bayern Munich. City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said he was “delighted” that Guardiola is staying. “His hunger for improvement and success remains insatiable and the direct beneficiaries of that will continue to be our players and coaching staff, the culture of our club, and the English game at large,” he said. “This renewal will take Pep beyond a decade of coaching Manchester City and the opportunity to continue to re-write the managerial record books.” Guardiola's new deal comes at a time when City's Premier League dominance appears to be under threat . The four-time defending champion has lost four games in succession in all competitions — the worst losing streak of Guardiola's managerial career. Guardiola is widely considered one of the greatest managers of all time, having been a serial winner at Barcelona, Bayern and City. He has won 33 major titles with those clubs, including three Champions League trophies. His decision to stay at City also comes as the club faces a slew of alleged financial breaches . Punishment could be as extreme as expulsion from the league. City faces more than 100 charges ranging over a nine-year period when it was trying to establish itself as the biggest force in English soccer. The club denies the charges and Guardiola had said in September — when a closed-door hearing was scheduled — that he welcomed the chance to clear the club’s name. A verdict is not expected until next year. James Robson is at https://twitter.com/jamesalanrobson AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer
