IOWA CITY — Iowa hosts Nebraska in Black Friday’s Heroes Game with the Huskers above the six-win bowl eligibility plateau for the first time since 2016. Nebraska (6-5, 3-5 Big Ten) beat Wisconsin, 44-25, on Saturday, ending a four-game losing streak and the longest stretch without a bowl appearance (7 years) among Power 5 programs. Made them bowl eligible ... It is a credit to Coach Rhule, his staff, his players, for the job they did in two short years.” Iowa (7-4, 5-3 Big Ten) previously dashed Big Red’s bowl hopes in 2023, Rhule’s first season, and 2019, beating Nebraska in Lincoln 13-10 and 27-24 to drop them from 5-6 to 5-7. Each of the previous six meetings between the two programs ended with a margin of victory within one score. “It is going to be a big challenge for us,” Ferentz said. “I know they are coming in her with confidence. We will have to be at our best Friday to be ready to go.” Ahead of Friday’s matchup, the 14 th meeting as Big Ten foes, Ferentz praised the construction of the Huskers’ roster. “(They have) done a good job of putting the team together, whether guys that were there, guys they recruited and guys in the transfer portal,” Ferentz said. Nebraska’s personnel reflect two different extremes on each side of the ball with an incredibly veteran defense and particularly youthful offense at key spots. On defense, Ferentz said the Huskers’ quality roster starts up front with fifth-year senior Nash Hutmacher and sixth-year senior Ty Robinson. “(They are) really aggressive on defense,” Ferentz said. “They have two defensive tackles that feel like they have been there forever. I think they have been there four or five years. Both have started a lot of games. They are showing it. They are strong and aggressive, really tough guys. That is really tough to block those guys inside.” According to Iowa offensive lineman Mason Richman, Ferentz highlighted Robinson and Hutmacher early in the week. “I know, when they wear the single digit, it means they are a pretty good player on the team,” Richman said. “They are really physical. We just have to limit them from getting going. We have had a couple good duels these past two years.” Ferentz also made note of the secondary, especially fifth-year senior Isaac Gifford. “They play a lot of people,” Ferentz said. “Their safeties are all good. They play three of them. No. 2 looks to be the leader. He is a really good football player on top of it.” Offensively, Ferentz picked out Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola, the No. 7 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class, and wide receiver Jacory Barney. “Quarterback is an outstanding player,” Ferentz said. “I cannot imagine there is a better freshman quarterback in the country. No. 17, receiver, return guy, is a true freshman as well. Really good, outstanding football players, very dynamic. “They have a good offensive football team, good at the skill positions, big, have some experience up front.” Defensive lineman Yahya Black described the contest as “old school, big time football.” “Nose-to-nose, maybe a little blood, but just pure violence and that is what it is going to be,” Black said. “It is just going to be a whole fight.” He also said it is important to generate pressure on Raiola. “Not just him, but any quarterback,” Black said. “Pressure — not even just sacks — but pressure on a quarterback makes a big difference in the game.” In 11 games, Raiola leads Big Ten freshmen with 2,405 passing yards and 12 touchdown with 10 interceptions. On Oct. 16, the same day as the Saskatchewan Leaders’ Debate, an online publication published a story outlining concerns surrounding two 12-year-old trans-students using a girls’ change room at a school in southeastern Saskatchewan. The story began a sequence of events on social media that ended with the two students being identified as Clarke’s children. On Oct. 17 Moe announced that his party would establish a policy restricting students’ use of change rooms to their sex assigned at birth as its “first order of business” if re-elected. Speaking for more than 10 minutes during the Throne Speech Debate on Tuesday, Clarke called out Moe’s stance on transgender youth and his decision to make the policy announcement – which had not been included in the Saskatchewan Party’s election platform prior to Oct. 17. “The premier put a target on the backs of my two 12-year-old kids. He held a press conference to stoke fear and outrage about two kids at an elementary school while my children’s picture was circulating on social media identifying them, while unimaginable hate was raging down on my family,” he said. “What do you think would be going through a 12-year-old's mind when they hear the premier of their province [is] targeting them?” The proposed change room policy was then dropped as Moe’s “first order of business” following the election – after the Sask. Party secured a 34-seat majority in the legislature. Speaking to reporters after the revelation, Moe claimed he had “misspoke” during the initial announcement on Oct. 17 and that any policy of that nature would be done in consultation with the Ministry of Education and Saskatchewan’s 27 school divisions. During his comments, Clarke recalled the government’s push to pass Bill 137 or the Parents’ Bill of Rights late last year – which requires parental consent before students change their name or preferred pronouns at school. “I have sat as an MLA since October of last year, and this is the second time that this premier in one year has decided to attack trans kids. Some of the most vulnerable people in our province, all presumably because he thought it was a good political strategy,” Clarke recalled. “The premier owes my children an apology, he owes all transgender kids in this province, especially transgender people in this province, especially kids, an apology for how he has made them feel so unsafe over the last year.” A 2019 study from the Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth found that transgender adolescents were 7.6 times more likely to attempt suicide than their peers. Clarke reflected on his family’s journey following his children coming out as transgender. “As a parent of a transgender child, you are presented with a stark choice to outright reject the feelings and words of your child when they tell you who they are, or to choose to embrace your child and love them with all your heart. My wife and I decided to love our kids with all our hearts,” he said. He ended off by praising his children’s strength to “live as their authentic selves.” “I cannot tell you how proud I am of my children. They are kind, smart, adventurous, loving,” he said. “Transgender kids are not scary. Transgender people are not scary. They are not people that we should be afraid of. They are people who deserve to be treated with respect and dignity and love." In a response to CTV News, a government spokesperson outlined that the Minister of Education and Premier Moe commented on the matter in response to questions from the media at the time. “At no point did they identify any students. The Premier and his campaign consistently stated that ‘the identity of individual minors should never be part of any political debate,’” the statement read. Grid expansion in F1 is both infrequent and often unsuccessful. Four teams were granted entries in 2010 that should have pushed the grid to 13 teams and 26 cars for the first time since 1995. One team never made it to the grid and the other three had vanished by 2017. There is only one American team on the current F1 grid — owned by California businessman Gene Haas — but it is not particularly competitive and does not field American drivers. Andretti’s dream was to field a truly American team with American drivers. At one point, F1 asked GM to find another team to partner with besides Andretti. GM refused and F1 said it would revisit the Andretti application if and when Cadillac had an engine ready to compete. “Formula 1 has maintained a dialogue with General Motors, and its partners at TWG Global, regarding the viability of an entry following the commercial assessment and decision made by Formula 1 in January 2024,” F1 said in a statement. “Over the course of this year, they have achieved operational milestones and made clear their commitment to brand the 11th team GM/Cadillac, and that GM will enter as an engine supplier at a later time. As of Tuesday, U.S. officials said they were still trying to expel the hackers, who have been traced back to the Chinese government, from American systems. Issues related to the cyberattack go back months, too . Since then, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have been working with telecom companies to help find the hackers and prevent them from digging further into their systems. As for where things currently stand, here’s what you need to know, and how to protect yourself. | What do we know about the telecom cyberattack so far? The cyberattack has been ongoing, as noted, and officials are still trying to shore things up. On Wednesday, Senators received a classified briefing about the situation, and according to reporting from the Washington Post , the “broad and significant” campaign has resulted in the exposure and theft of a “large amount” of sensitive and private data and information. So, private messages and phone calls may have been intercepted, and the hacking campaign even attempted to infiltrate both presidential campaigns earlier this year; one person from Donald Trump’s campaign did have calls intercepted.
