Addressing a press conference here, Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Jairam Ramesh raised questions over outcome in Maharashtra where BJP and its allies Shiv Sena and NCP are heading for a landslide victory. Also Read | Maharashtra Assembly Poll Results Unexpected, Incomprehensible; Something Fishy, Says Uddhav Thackeray. Jairam Ramesh said somewhere "there is a conspiracy" to defeat the Congress. Pawan Khera said BJP suffered a setback in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha polls about five months back and raised questions over BJP's strike rate in Maharashtra assembly polls. Also Read | Pakur Assembly By-Election Result 2024: Nisat Alam, Wife of Former Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam, Wins Seat by Highest Margin of 86,029. He said the Congress was concerned about its electoral transparency and will continue to raise concerns about electoral process. "The Lok Sabha election was fought in the name of Modi ji in Maharashtra, BJP lost it. The same state gives the same BJP 132 out of 148 seats within 4-5 months. What kind of strike rate is this? ...Is this strike rate possible? Democracy is our concern. Electoral transparency is our concern. Can the BJP reverse anti-incumbency? We complained continuously. Jairam Ramesh had complained about the name being deleted from the Election Commission's website from the house of a woman BJP leader. All the leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi had complained. No answer was given," he said. "Whether we win or lose, we will continue to question the election process. In a country where exam papers are leaked, can we blindly trust the machines? You cannot shut us up by showing the results of Jharkhand. To date, apart from the poetry, we have not received any concrete answer from the Election Commission," he added. Jairam Ramesh said the setback in Maharashtra does not mean that the party will step back from its agenda including demand for caste census. "We will definitely analyse the result that has come. But today we can say that even those who won did not anticipate that this result would come. We were assuming that we will get the mandate. The farmers of Maharashtra are angry, the working class of Maharashtra is against the government. And the atmosphere that was there in Maharashtra 4-5 months ago, the same atmosphere is there today too, we were assuming this and everyone accepted this," he said. "But the results that have come are completely opposite to this. But this does not mean that we will step back from our agenda... somewhere there is a conspiracy to defeat us... The result of Maharashtra is very strange, I cannot use any other word for it, it is absolutely strange," he added. Khera said in Jharkhand, RSS and BJP "tried to make a laboratory" in tribal areas but it was rejected. "Himanta Biswa Sarma became their poster boy. The poster boy left no stone unturned there...The people of Jharkhand completely rejected this kind of politics and again made a working government win with a good majority. Congress performed well there," he said. In Maharashtra, BJP has won or is ahead in 132 seats, Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has won or is ahead in 57 seats and NCP led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is poised to win 41 seats. The state has 288 assembly seats. The constituents of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a rude jolt with Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray poised to win 20 seats, Congress 16, and NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar only 10 seats. In Jharkhand, the ruling JMM led the ruling coalition to a convincing victory. The JMM has won or is leading on 34 seats. Its allies are poised to win 22 more seats - Congress 16, RJD on 4 and CPI(ML) two. BJP is ahead or has won 21 seats. Polling was held for 81 seats in Jharkhand. This is first time since the creation of the state that an alliance has won polls after five years in power. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said the return of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to power in Ghana is an indication that the ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC), will yield power to the opposition in 2027. The party, however, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that all processes were put in place to guarantee that only the will of the people would prevail in elections. NDC which lost power in Ghana in 2016, emerged victorious in the December 7 presidential election leading to the re-election of former president John Mahama. PDP in a statement issued on Monday by the National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, said the NDC’s victory is a demonstration of the triumph of the power of the people over misrule and oppressive policies of government, which it added, has been the case in Nigeria under the APC since 2015. “The verdict of the people of Ghana in this presidential election is a signal to the APC that its days in office are numbered as the power of the people in Nigeria, just like in Ghana, will surely prevail,” the party stated. PDP noted that the APC has in the last nine and half years wrecked Nigeria’s economy, resulting in the devaluation of the nation’s currency, and a high unemployment rate, that has subjected the people to misery and hunger. According to the party, Nigeria has been taken over by terrorists under the APC government, resulting in the killing of over 65,000 Nigerians, while the creative abilities of the youths have been destroyed. It added that APC has “mortgaged the future of our country through reckless borrowing (and has) foisted repressive policies (in the country) including the rise in the cost of petrol from N97 per litre under the PDP to over N1,000. “Also unacceptable to Nigerians is that our once thriving nation, which ranked as a preferred destination for international foreign investment capital and one of the world’s fastest-growing economies under the PDP has been brought to its knees by the APC with decayed infrastructure, comatose economy, worsening insecurity and social uncertainties occasioned by ill-conceived and ill-implemented macro-economic policies. “More distressing is that while Nigerians are subjected to harrowing hardship, APC leaders remain unconcerned and unaccountable; imposing harsh taxes and recklessly looting the nation’s treasury to finance their luxury appetites and consumption while arrogantly treating Nigerians as though they are a conquered people.” Nigeria’s opposition party further stated that major multinationals are leaving the country in droves while life has become so unbearable that Nigerians, particularly the youths who are now resorting to suicide or slavery mission abroad as alternative because of the monumental misrule and insensitivity of the APC. “Nigerians now recall with nostalgia and earnestly seek a return of the golden years of the PDP in government as their only hope for survival and triumph of their dreams, aspiration and collective Will as a people,” PDP stated. It warned INEC that Nigerians are not ready to accept a repeat of “massive manipulation and perversion of the electoral process as witnessed in the 2019 and 2023 Presidential elections in our country.” PDP however, called on Nigerians to remain firm and steadfast in their resolve to end the suppressive rule of the APC and re-establish good governance on the platform of the PDP in 2027.
NoneKarnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah (File photo) BELAGAVI: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah hinted in the assembly Monday that Congress govt would restore the 4% Muslim quota that the erstwhile BJP-led coalition scrapped in March 2023, citing saffron party's subsequent affidavit in court that purportedly talks about maintaining status quo on the contentious issue. Siddaramaiah raised the opposition's hackles by saying BJP's move smacked of doublespeak -first transferring the Muslim quota to two other communities and then allegedly saying the opposite in its affidavit in SC. "The former ex-BJP govt did not include the Panchamasali Lingayats in the 2A quota. Instead, it snatched the 4% Muslim quota under 2B and redistributed it - 2% to Veerashaiva-Lingayats and 2% to Vokkaligas under 3A and 3B...This led to injustice," he said. CM's remarks came amid an uproar over the state govt clamping restrictions on the Panchamasali Lingayat community's proposed protest at the assembly complex. When BJP MLAs R Ashoka and CN Ashwathnarayan demanded proof of their party contradicting its decision to scrap the Muslim quota, Siddaramaiah said, "I shall table the affidavit filed by the previous govt tomorrow itself." BJP's Basangouda Patil Yatnal requested that he table a copy of the affidavit in the assembly Wednesday, pointing to the ongoing Panchamasali Lingayat protests for 2A reservation. Siddaramaiah agreed to it. The day's session saw more heated exchanges as BJP members alleged that the Congress govt was "stifling free speech" by barring the Panchamasali Lingayats from staging their planned gherao of the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha. "This is a blatant attack on democratic rights," BJP said. Belagavi DC Mohammad Roshan issued an order Sunday evening prohibiting the use of vehicles and tractors during the rally. Clarifying govt's stance, home minister G Parameshwara said, "We have not banned the protest by Panchamasali Lingayats. It is their democratic right to demand reservation. However, allowing vehicles, including over 5,000 tractors, could create a law-and-order crisis." BJP accepted the justification, but demanded that govt engage directly with the community. Siddaramaiah informed the assembly that he had already met representatives of the Panchamasali Lingayats twice. "I explained to them that the permanent backward classes commission needs to submit its report on the merits of reservation before we can provide reservation to the Panchamasalis." Ruud van Nistelrooy admits he was “hurt” at having to leave Manchester United last month. Van Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s assistant in the summer and had a four-game interim spell in charge following his compatriot’s sacking in October. He left the club in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s appointment but was only out of work for two weeks after being appointed Leicester’s new manager on a deal until 2027. The 48-year-old had a glittering playing career with United and was disappointed his return had to end so soon. “The moment I took over the interim job what I said was I’m here to help United and to stay to help United, and I meant it,” he said. “So I was disappointed, yeah, very much so, and it hurt I had to leave. “The only job I would take as an assistant was at United because of the bond that I have with the people in the club and the fans. “But in the end I got my head around it because I also understand the new manager. I’m in football long enough, and I’ve managed myself, that you can think of a situation, me being there, I understand. “I spoke to Ruben about it, fair enough to him, the conversation was grateful, man to man, person to person, manager to manager, and that helped a lot to move on and straightaway get into talks with new possibilities which of course lifted my spirits.” The Dutchman takes on a difficult job at the King Power Stadium as he is tasked with keeping Leicester in the Premier League. He inherits an influential dressing room, which has seen a number of managers come and go over the last few years. Ruud's here for his first press conference as our Manager 😃 — Leicester City (@LCFC) Van Nistelrooy revealed he has done his due diligence and also let the players know as well. “It’s the only way you can work. It’s mutual respect. I also mentioned to the players yesterday that I looked at the squad and started to make phone calls about players, because in football everyone knows everyone,” he said. “With two or three phone calls you hear stories about 20 players and for me it was important that you hear there are good characters there. That’s important, that there are good people there. “I look at the players how they play. I obviously don’t know them but I got general information and the individuals that they are a good bunch of people. That was important for me to get in.”Nico Iamaleava passed for four touchdowns and Dylan Sampson rushed for 77 yards and set a school-record for TDs as No. 11 Tennessee rolled to a 56-0 victory over UTEP on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, Tenn. Sampson scored on a 14-yard TD run early in the second quarter for the game's first points to deliver his 22nd TD of tje season to break the Tennessee single-season mark set by Gene McEvers in 1929. Iamaleava was 15 of 20 for 173 yards for Tennessee (9-2), while Bru McCoy caught a pair of TD passes and Squirrel White and Ethan Davis each had a TD reception. Tennessee moved its all-time record to 2-0 against the Miners, also having blanked the Conference USA school 24-0 in 2018. Jermod McCoy and John Slaughter had interceptions for the Volunteers, while Dominic Bailey recovered a fumble to set up a score. Skyler Locklear was 10-of-19 passing for 50 yards with an interception for UTEP (2-9), while rushing for 37 yards on eight carries. JP Pickles also had a turn at QB for the Miners and was 10 of 15 for 72 yards. Kenny Odom had eight receptions for 70 yards. Both defenses set the tone in the first quarter. The UTEP defense allowed just one first down to the Southeastern Conference team in three ugly series in the opening quarter and only 22 yards. In the second quarter, Sampson ended a 68-yard drive by dashing up the middle for 14 yards for the record-setting score to take a 7-0 lead with 13:22 remaining before halftime. After Bailey's fumble recovery, Iamaleava flipped a screen pass that White took 9 yards to the end zone nearly six minutes later. Davis put the Volunteers up 21-0 when he grabbed a short pass for a 1-yard TD. Iamaleava then found Bru McCoy from 18 yards with eight seconds left in the second quarter for a 28-0 halftime lead. McCoy caught his second TD and Peyton Lewis rushed for a pair for a 49-0 lead in the third quarter, but the biggest roar from Volunteers fans came when it was announced Florida beat No. 9 Ole Miss 24-17, to enhance the Volunteers' College Football Playoff hopes. Cameron Seldon's 3-yard run capped the scoring as the Volunteers finished the season undefeated at home for the second time in four years. --Field Level Media
Coleen Rooney almost quit I'm A Celeb after a few days due to campmate worriesJohn Parker Romo made a 29-yard field goal to lift the Minnesota Vikings to a 30-27 overtime win against the host Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. Romo buried the game-winning kick in his third career game for Minnesota (9-2), which won its fourth game in a row. The score capped a 10-play, 68-yard drive for the Vikings after the Bears went three-and-out on the first overtime possession. Sam Darnold completed 22 of 34 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings. Wideout Jordan Addison finished with eight catches for a career-high 162 yards and a touchdown. The overtime defeat spoiled an impressive performance from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who completed 32 of 47 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns for Chicago (4-7). D.J. Moore had seven catches for 106 yards and a touchdown, and Keenan Allen finished with nine catches for 86 yards and a score. Chicago erased an 11-point deficit in the final 22 seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime. Romo had put Minnesota on top 27-16 when he made a 26-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining in the fourth quarter. Williams trimmed the Bears' deficit to 27-24 with 22 seconds to go. He rolled right and found Allen wide open in the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown, and moments later he fired a strike to Moore for a two-point conversion. The Bears recovered an onside kick on the next play to regain possession at their 43-yard line with 21 seconds left. Cairo Santos' onside kick bounced off the foot of Vikings tight end Johnny Mundt, and Tarvarius Moore recovered it. D.J. Moore put the Bears in field-goal position with a 27-yard reception across the middle of the field, and Santos made a 48-yarder as time expired to even the score at 27-all. Minnesota led 24-10 after three quarters. Romo made a 40-yard field goal early in the third quarter, and Aaron Jones punched in a 2-yard run with 1:22 left in the period to put the Vikings on top by two touchdowns. Addison and Jalen Nailor each had receiving touchdowns in the first half for Minnesota. Roschon Johnson scored on a 1-yard run for the Bears' only touchdown of the first half. Chicago trailed 14-10 at the break. --Field Level Media
Mumbai/Ranchi, Nov 23 (PTI) The BJP on Saturday pulled off a stunning performance in Maharashtra winning a record number of seats to propel the party-led ruling Mahayuti alliance to a landslide victory while the INDIA bloc stormed back to power in Jharkhand on the back of a spectacular showing by the JMM. As speculation mounted on who would be the next CM face from the Mahayuti alliance--which also includes the Shiv Sena faction of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the NCP (Ajit Pawar)--and the three allies put up a united front after the "historic" victory, the focus quickly shifted to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is being seen as a strong contender to occupy the top post for the third time. Such was the BJP's dominance that helped the Mahayuti alliance to get a three-fourths majority and continue the winning momentum after its recent historic hat-trick in Haryana, 128 of the 149 candidates fielded by the saffron party won. Four BJP candidates were also leading. "Maharashtra has broken all records, it is the biggest win for any party or pre-poll alliance in the last 50 years," Prime Minister Narendra Modi told BJP workers at party headquarters to a thunderous applause late in the evening. The prime minister also asserted that the message from the Maharashtra elections is that of unity and it is also an endorsement of the "ek hai toh safe hai" (united we are safe) slogan. The BJP's stellar showing also came just months after it was written off in Maharashtra by some political pundits owing to its poor showing in the politically significant state in the Lok Sabha polls. In the first assembly elections in Maharashtra since the split in the Shiv Sena and the NCP, Shiv Sena(Shinde) bagged 56 and led in one and the NCP(Ajit Pawar) 40 and ahead in one. The majority mark in the 288-member Assembly is 145. The Shiv Sena(Shinde) fought from 81 seats and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP in 59 constituencies. The BJP's highest tally in Assembly elections in Maharashtra was in 2014 when it bagged 122 seats after which Fadnavis became the chief minister for the first time. In 2019, it got 105 seats. The extent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) decimation can be gauged from the fact that the Congress won just 13 and was ahead in three, the Shiv Sena(UBT) in 20 and the NCP(Sharad Pawar) in 10. The Congress had fielded 101 candidates, Shiv Sena(UBT) 95 and the NCP(SP) 86. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief and former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray called the poll results completely unexpected and incomprehensible. Thackeray said the results reflect that there was a "tsunami rather than a wave." Of the three Congress big guns in the state--Nana Patole, Balasaheb Thorat and Prithiviraj Chavan--Thorat and Chavan lost. Patole was trailing by a narrow margin. The poll outcome could also lead to a situation where the state Assembly might not even have a Leader of the Opposition. Prime Minister Modi earlier in the day lauded the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance's(NDA) massive victory in Maharashtra as a win for "development and good governance", assuring people of the ruling bloc's continued work for the state's progress. In posts on X, he also congratulated the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha(JMM)-led alliance for its win in Jharkhand, while stressing that his party will always be at the forefront to champion people's issues. He tagged Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who led the INDIA bloc coalition in the state, in his post. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra for the "historic victory" of the Mahayuti alliance and said that by giving such a huge mandate to the NDA, people have shut shops of "fake well-wishers of the Constitution". Shah also thanked the people of Jharkhand for blessing the BJP with the highest percentage of votes. With the Mahayuti walking the road towards power in a runaway win that went ahead of what exit polls had predicted, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “People have rejected politics of hatred and revenge, accepted politics of welfare and development.” “People took election in their hands to give the Mahayuti a landslide victory." As Shinde's alliance colleagues attributed the stunning win to targeted welfare schemes such as the the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana', on the other side of the spectrum was Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who alleged there was a "big conspiracy" and something was "fishy". Voters in Maharashtra, which sends 48 MPs to the Lok Sabha and gave the MVA a decisive 30 seats, clearly decided to go against the trend of that parliamentary victory just five months ago. The BJP's stellar showing just ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections came as a big boost to help it overcome some of its reverses in the general elections where it bagged 240 seats, short of the 272 majority mark in the Lok Sabha. The focus in Maharashtra shifted to Fadnavis, the architect of BJP's stunning victory. "Leaders of Mahayuti parties will decide (on next CM)," Fadnavis said on his part. "Today's verdict shows that the entire community stands united behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 'ek hai toh safe hai' slogan has been a success, particularly for ladki bahins (dear sisters) who benefit from this scheme, receiving Rs 1,500 per month," he said. The RSS' active role in the poll campaign was also cited by political analysts for BJP's sweep. The Congress continued its losing spree posting its worst-ever show in Maharashtra and ending up a distant junior partner to the ruling JMM in Jharkhand, further diminishing its role in the opposition bloc as other allies perform better. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hailed the INDIA bloc's victory in Jharkhand as one for the protection of the Constitution as well as of water, forest and land, even as he described the Maharashtra results as "unexpected" and said his party will analyse the election outcome in the state in detail. Sops such as the monthly income support scheme 'Mukhya Mantri Ladki Bahin Yojana', which transfers Rs 1,500 per month to accounts of women between 18 and 60 whose annual family income is below Rs 250,000, appeared to have paid rich dividends for the winning alliance. The BJP aggresively playing the Hindutva card in Maharashtra and resorted to slogans such as 'ek hai toh safe hai' and 'batenge toh katenge' (divided we fall) in an attempt to send a veiled message of Hindu unity across the caste divide to counter the Opposition's charge that it wanted to end reservation. In Jharkhand, the JMM-led alliance stormed back to power for the second consecutive term winning 56 seats in the 81-member assembly. The majority mark in the assembly is 41. The BJP-led NDA, which was confident about its prospects in the state after an aggressive campaign, won 23 seats and was leading in one. JMM won 34 of the 43 seats it contested, the Congress in 16 of the 30 seats, the RJD four of the six seats, while the CPI(ML) Liberation won two of the four seats. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is out on bail in a money laundering case, expressed his gratitude to the people of the state for the INDIA bloc’s impressive performance and said it had passed the "exam of democracy." “We have passed the exam of democracy," Soren, Jharkhand's youngest chief minister who has had a turbulent but resilient political career, marked by legal battles and internal party struggles, told a press conference in Ranchi. The BJP's poll plank was driving out "infiltrators" from the Santhal Parganas region, but it seemed to have fallen flat in front of the 'Adivasi' card played by the JMM, which also sought the people's sympathy over the arrest of Soren. Vikings withstand Bears' furious rally, win on field goal in OT
Article content ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistani police arrested thousands of Imran Khan supporters ahead of a rally in the capital to demand the ex-premier’s release from prison, a security officer said Sunday. Recommended Videos Khan has been behind bars for more than a year and has over 150 criminal cases against him. But he remains popular and his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf or PTI, says the cases are politically motivated. Shahid Nawaz, a security officer in eastern Punjab province, said police have arrested more than 4,000 Khan supporters. They include five parliamentarians. Pakistan has sealed off Islamabad with shipping containers and shut down major roads and highways connecting the city with PTI strongholds in Punjab and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Tit-for-tat teargas shelling between the police and the PTI was reported on the highway bordering Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan suspended mobile and internet services “in areas with security concerns.” The government and Interior Ministry posted the announcement on the social media platform X, which is banned in Pakistan. They did not specify the areas, nor did they say how long the suspension would be in place. “Internet and mobile services will continue to operate as usual in the rest of the country,” the posts said. Meanwhile, telecom company Nayatel sent out emails offering customers “a reliable landline service” as a workaround in the areas suffering suspended cellphone service. Khan’s supporters rely heavily on social media to demand his release and use messaging platforms like WhatsApp to share information, including details of events. PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram said Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi was traveling to Islamabad in a convoy led by the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur. “She cannot leave the party workers on their own,” said Akram. There was a festive mood in Peshawar, with PTI members dancing, drumming and holding up pictures of Khan as cars set off for Islamabad. The government is imposing social media platform bans and targeting VPN services, according to internet advocacy group Netblocks. On Sunday, the group said live metrics showed problems with WhatsApp that were affecting media sharing on the app. The U.S. Embassy issued a security alert for Americans in the capital, encouraging them to avoid large gatherings and warning that even “peaceful gatherings can turn violent.” Last month, authorities suspended the cellphone service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to thwart a pro-Khan rally. The shutdown disrupted communications and affected everyday services such as banking, ride-hailing and food delivery. The latest crackdown comes on the eve of a visit by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said authorities have sealed off Islamabad’s Red Zone, which houses key government buildings and is the destination for Khan’s supporters. “Anyone reaching it will be arrested,” Naqvi told a press conference. He said the security measures were in place to protect residents and property, blaming the PTI for inconveniencing people and businesses. He added that protesters were planning to take the same route as the Belarusian delegation, but that the government had headed off this scenario. Naqvi denied cellphone services were suspended and said only mobile data was affected.
Verrica Reports Inducement Grant Under Nasdaq Listing Rule 5635(c)(4)Albury councillor Kylie King will soon no longer jointly host radio 2AY's breakfast show. or signup to continue reading Station owner Ace Radio has decided not to renew King's contract beyond December 20, which means will be the solo announcer in 2025 for the program, which is also broadcast on Wangaratta's 3NE. Company chief executive Mark Taylor cited the business environment, with media companies under pressure from online giants and advertising tight, as the reason for the decision. "It's purely economic that we're pulling down to a one-person breakfast show," Mr Taylor said. "It's an amicable departure. "Kylie has been a contractor, she hasn't been an employee and I'm sure we'll do work with Kylie again in the future." Mr Taylor said it "absolutely" was a hard decision, having known King since they worked together in Gippsland radio decades ago. "We're not one of those companies that take these things lightly or do it on the spot, that's why Kylie was told some weeks ago and she's working up to the Christmas period," he said. "I'm sure in the future there will be a place for her in our sports coverage but right now we need to tighten the belt." She teamed up with and they then went on to become councillors and and Wodonga, respectively, while on-air. "I'm disappointed and quite sad," King said. "It's been a wonderful opportunity to connect with the audience for six years. "To have so many loyal listeners choosing to spend their mornings with Kev Poulton and I and now Matt Griffith has been a privilege that's not lost on me. "The COVID lockdowns, when I was broadcasting from home while Kev was in the studio remain a powerful memory of the importance of those local connections and telling and sharing the stories of our community. "With a background in journalism I have always been interesting in unearthing stories and talking to people from diverse backgrounds from politicians to sports people, community members, volunteers and listeners. "I thank the management of 2AY for the opportunity over these past six years - it's been a blast." Radio 2AY station manager Andrew Harrison lauded King's ability to balance on-air duties with mayoral duties from 2022 to September this year. "She's just such a professional performer, particularly having a role as mayor as well as broadcaster, which was not an easy thing, but she did it with professionalism and grace," Mr Harrison said. Mr Taylor said the exit of King was "definitely not" a prelude to a networked breakfast show. In 2020, DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team.
