Unlike many West African nations where power often oscillates between authoritarian rule and fragile democratic experiments, Ghana has maintained a steady course of civilian governance for decades. Since its return to multiparty democracy in 1992, Ghana has conducted eight successful general elections, with peaceful transitions of power occurring between rival political parties. For instance, in 2001, Ghana witnessed a historic moment when power peacefully transitioned from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), setting a standard for political civility. 2009, this tradition continued as the NPP handed power back to the NDC after a closely contested election. In this last 2024 general election, voters turnout was encouraging and the election was fairly peaceful considering African election standards. There are isolated cases of ballot box snatching, and a confirmed case of one person was shot in Kasoa Zongo, located in the Awutu Senya East Constituency that resulted in the death of a man, and accusations of low level interference by the government in power. However, ECOWAS observation mission and other election observation agencies have stated that the election was peaceful and cred -ible. There are strong indications that the opposition party, NDC, may win the presidential election. This will be good for democracy in Ghana. The handing over of power from the ruling party to the opposition party demonstrates the maturing of Ghana’s democracy and indicates that the will of the people reigns supreme and is not subverted. As the sun sets over the vibrant lands of West Africa, casting long shadows over bustling cities and quiet villages alike, Ghana stands tall—a lighthouse amid turbulent seas, a radiant beacon of democracy and hope. I mean it’s been a very long season. “Many races, many good races but also many tough races. It was all about just optimising, trying sometimes to limit the damage. But at the end of the day I’m just proud of what we’ve achieved,” stated Verstappen. When asked if he ever felt as if he would lose sight of the Championship at any point, the 27-year-old added: “I never really like to believe so. Of course at times it looked very tough, I didn’t want to give up at all. That’s not how I am anyway. “But at times it was not easy with the car, a clear lack of pace in places. But we still managed to get the best result out of it, or sometimes even more than what we deserved,” added the now-four-time World Champion. “At the end of the day, most of the time you create your own luck, and that’s what we did,” Verstappen concluded. Government regulators cleared American flights to get airborne Tuesday about an hour after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a national ground stop, which prevented planes from taking off. American said in an email that the problem was caused by vendor technology in its flight operating system. Aviation analytics company Cirium said flights were delayed across American’s major hubs, with only 37% leaving on time. Nineteen flights were cancelled.

They're already using those screenshots later on to reference information or complete tasks," Friedman noted. "We thought about what if we could make the Pixel phone gradually more like the casita from Encanto, in the sense that it adapts to your needs as they come," Friedman said. Before the December Pixel drop, screenshot management was evolving towards more intelligent solutions. Google's new approach aimed to solve a common problem: the challenge of finding specific information within a growing collection of screenshots. "We've all been there - you know you saved that restaurant's address or your friend's Wi-Fi password somewhere, but scrolling through hundreds of images is a challenge," explained Sarah Chen , Google's VP of Pixel Software, during the Made by Google event, back in August, when Google announced the "Pixel Screenshots" with the Pixel 9 phones. Friedman shared a personal anecdote: after screenshotting a concert ticket for an artist he didn't know, the app automatically surfaced the musician's music in Spotify. Just so you know, Gboard is the default keyboard app on Pixel phones, and as for the apps it works with, it works with all the Google apps and selected third-party apps, which Friedman says will continue to grow. Another integration that introduces another layer of interaction is Circle to Search. Users can now circle specific screen segments, saving precise information snippets with potential actions. "We're trying to make it easier for users to save the information they want," Friedman explained. Privacy remains a critical consideration. Unlike cloud-based solutions that might compromise user data, these features operate entirely on-device, powered by the new Tensor G4 chip. "We have a strong principle of processing everything on-device without sending information externally," Friedman emphasized, addressing potential user concerns transparently. The Details page now functions more like an intelligent assistant than a passive viewer. Action chips can extract specific information – a customer support email from a museum ticket, contact details from a screenshot, potential purchasing links. These weren't just conveniences; they were bridges between captured information and actionable experiences. Wallet integration adds practical utility, allowing users to instantly add tickets, boarding passes, and essential documents to Google Wallet . But it's more than a storage solution. The team was deliberate about maintaining user agency. "We want to make sure the automation that we're doing helps achieve the user goal," Friedman noted. When questioned about potential redundancy with existing apps, like Photos, which already has some of the features that could have done the job, like natural language search, image sorting, and Lens integration, the team was clear. "Users take photos for many different reasons, but screenshots are taken because users want to save some type of information and use it later," they explained. The current implementation is exclusive to the Pixel 9, a calculated approach to introducing AI capabilities responsibly. The device's processing capabilities allow for nuanced, on-device intelligence that older models cannot support, explained Friedman, when we asked that why this isn't available on older Pixel phones, which already have plenty of AI features. Like a phoenix from the ashes Netflix was a pioneer in the streaming video market, laying the groundwork for all the competitors that came after. It has long been the undisputed leader in the field in terms of subscribers, and after years of negative cash flow and ballooning debt, Netflix finally turned the corner and made good on its promise of strong and consistent profitability. After a pandemic-induced growth spurt, Netflix became a victim of its own success. The combination of decades-high inflation and tough comps sent fair-weather investors to the exits, and the exodus was dramatic. Between October 2021 and July 2022, Netflix stock shed 75% of its value. Even as the stock price cratered, the business kept chugging along, with Netflix adding millions of new subscribers. Perhaps as importantly, the company continued to increase its revenue and earnings. Over the past year, and without much fanfare, Netflix has quietly outperformed every FAANG and Magnificent Seven stock -- except Nvidia. That's a momentous accomplishment indeed. The view from the cheap seats As its growth slowed, Netflix made a couple of strategic decisions that paved the way for its success. At the risk of alienating long-term customers, the company announced a password-sharing crackdown, but its execution was brilliant. Netflix allowed users to add additional paid members for just $8, and the mass defection of subscribers many predicted never came to pass. The company also introduced a lower-priced tier that included advertising, which appealed to viewers on tighter budgets. Those two decisions set the stage for future growth, and the results have been impressive. In the third quarter, Netflix generated revenue that grew 15% year over year to $9.8 billion, while its earnings per share (EPS) of $5.40 jumped 45%. The results were fueled by 5 million new paid subscribers, an increase of 14%. It's worth noting that the results sailed past Wall Street's expectations, which were calling for revenue of $9.77 billion, EPS of $5.12, and subscriber additions of 4.5 million. Despite Netflix's striking performance, the best may be yet to come. Future growth drivers Recent developments help illustrate that there's a long runway ahead for the streaming giant. And those opportunities extend beyond its base streaming business. Earlier this month, Netflix revealed that its ad-supported tier had reached critical mass, with 70 million global users just two years after its debut. The company also noted that 50% of its new subscribers join its ad-supported plan, giving the company leverage with advertisers. This is also helping to feed Netflix's pivot to live events. The recent boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul -- and the undercard with Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano -- was the company's biggest live event to date. Despite some reports of outages, the match was viewed by 108 million live global viewers, making it the "most-streamed global sporting event ever," according to Netflix. For an encore, Netflix has exclusive rights to two NFL games that will be played on Christmas Day: the Super Bowl LVII-winning Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Baltimore Ravens vs. the Houston Texans. It was recently announced that Beyoncé will perform at the halftime show in the game between the Texans and the Ravens, performing songs from her latest blockbuster album, Cowboy Carter . The album received a record-breaking 11 Grammy nominations, the most ever for an album by a female artist -- so it's certain to drum up a fair amount of business for Netflix. Data by YCharts Time to buy? Netflix has outperformed nearly all its FAANG and Magnificent Seven peers, with Nvidia as the outlier. Given the magnitude of the competition, that adds to the company's already lengthy list of credentials. That leaves us with the quintessential investing question: Is Netflix stock still a buy? In the wake of its third-quarter financial report, Wall Street has been scrambling to boost its price targets. The most notable comes courtesy of Pivotal Research analyst Jeffrey Wlodarczak, who maintained a buy rating on the stock while increasing his price target to a Street-high $1,100. For those keeping score at home, that represents potential upside of 23% compared to Thursday's closing price. Despite the aforementioned technical issues during the boxing match, the analyst called it a "learning experience" for Netflix, suggesting it's unlikely to happen again. "Our view remains unchanged that Netflix has won the global streaming race, as evidenced by year-to-date results and raised guidance," Wlodarczak wrote in a note to clients. Some investors might be put off by Netflix's frothy valuation, and with good reason. The stock is currently selling for 51 times earnings and 11 times sales, but that only tells part of the story. Wall Street is predicting Netflix will generate EPS of $23.77 in 2025. At that rate, the stock is selling for roughly 38 times forward earnings. United Australia Party leader Ralph Babet will take the Commonwealth to the High Court over what chairman Clive Palmer says are “unconstitutional” election laws prohibiting the party’s sole senator running under the UAP banner. Mr Palmer, a billionaire businessman and former UAP leader, accused the federal government of attempting to “rig” the 2025 election by supporting “draconian” laws governing when deregistered parties can contest an election. The UAP, which claims to be the nation’s largest in terms of membership, was deregistered in September 2022 by Mr Babet due to “administrative reasons”, though Mr Babet at the time said they would still contest the 2025 ballot. Under the Commonwealth Electoral Act, a deregistered party cannot contest an election until the general election after next following the deregistration, meaning Mr Babet could not run as a member of the UAP until at least 2028. Mr Palmer said the provisions were not “conducive to running a free and fair election” as demanded by the constitution, and said he expected the High Court to handle the challenge with “urgency” ahead of next year’s vote. “Our party name, the United Australia Party, is already a trademark and has been through the legal process that we have exclusive use of it, so we think that’s just been put in the Act to be a negative detriment,” he said. Mr Palmer went on to add: “The Australian constitution is very clear. It states the Commonwealth parliament has the power to make laws in respect of elections. But, surely elections must be fair and free elections. “Surely all Australians, regardless of their political persuasion, should be allowed to stand for elections, as should all political parties. “It’s very, very dangerous for the government to have the power by legislation to stop people participating in our democracy. “That’s why we’ve commenced those proceedings.” A writ of summons, filed with the High Court of Australia in Brisbane, claimed the inclusion of a party name and logo was “a significant advantage which is only available to candidates for election who are endorsed by a registered political party”. It claimed Section 135(3) of the Act was invalid because it “it impermissibly excludes or impedes receipt by electors of information relevant to the making of an informed choice”, and discriminated against unregistered parties. As first plaintiff, Mr Babet is seeking, according to the document, for the provision to be found to be invalid, or for a declaration that it is “inoperative and of no effect to the extent it would render a party ineligible for registration for the next general election”. Mr Palmer said the provisions would stop Mr Babet being able to stand at the next election and that the UAP intended to call for candidates in all seats of the House of Representatives, as well as in the country’s Senate. The former MP said cost of living pressures were a “warning sign” for the government, and that minor parties looking to contest the next federal election would be looking at the outcome of the UAP’s High Court bid. “We look forward to our case with the High Court, where we hope we can stand as an example for the Australian people that they can participate in the elections, that we do have freedom of speech to the life in this country and the freedom of the press, and we respect the people’s right to know,” he said. “We’ve seen what happens in Vladimir Putin’s Russia, where they restrict democracy and who can and who can’t contest elections. Naturally, if I’m in power, I might want to stop other people standing against me. But that’s not the basis of the Western democracy. It’s not the basis that protects Australian rights. “So it’s a very important thing to be challenged, because this legislation bans our political party, even if we are registered, from contesting the election. So we’ve got to protest about that, not just for ourselves, but for all Australians.” Mr Babet was elected to the Senate for Victoria in the 2022 election, having taken over the reigns of the UAP from Craig Kelly. Of the $100m Mr Palmer spent on the campaign, he was the sole representative to get elected in their race. Of the High Court challenge, Mr Babet said the UAP had 82,000 members who he said were “being denied the right to vote for who they wanted”. “Labor is running scared. There will be a third force in the next election and it will be well supported. I am calling for all parties to join together to kick out the uni-party of Labor (and) Liberals which has destroyed our country,” Mr Palmer said.
