State senators and their staff members were notified about the threat in a memo, according to officials. Members in the Assembly also received a similar note. They were asked to leave the area and work remotely “out of an abundance of caution” while law enforcement investigated the credibility of the threat, according to the memo. The California Highway Patrol conducted a sweep of the Capitol building and two others in the surrounding area and found no credible evidence of a threat. All three buildings were reopened to the public Friday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol said on a social media post that officers were investigating the threat, which was sent via an email, but did not give details. A spokesperson didn’t immediately return to calls for comment. The Legislature returned to Sacramento earlier this week to swear in new members and kick off , but the majority of them had left for their home districts Friday. Gov. Bills' push for AFC top seed continues with visit to Rams, who need to keep pace in NFC WestNew Delhi, Nov 23 (PTI) Billionaire Gautam Adani's group on Saturday clarified on reports of Kenya cancelling more than USD 2.5 billion in deals after US indictment on bribery charges, saying it had not entered into any binding agreement to operate Kenya's main airport. On the pact it had signed last month to build and operate key electricity transmission lines in Kenya for 30 years, the group said the project did not fall within the ambit of Sebi's disclosure regulations, thereby not warranting any disclosure on its cancellation. The group was responding to notices sent by stock exchanges to confirm reports of Kenyan President William Ruto ordering the cancellation of a procurement process that had been expected to award control of the country's main airport after the conglomerate's founder was indicted in the United States. Adani Enterprises Ltd, the flagship firm of billionaire Gautam Adani's group which houses its airport business, in a filing said it had in August this year incorporated a step-down subsidiary in Kenya to upgrade, modernise, and manage airports. "While the company was in discussion with the relevant authority for the said project, till date neither the company nor its subsidiaries (i) have been awarded any airport project in Kenya, or (ii) entered into any binding or definitive agreement in connection with any airport in Kenya," the firm said. It did not confirm or deny reports of Kenya cancelling the airport deal. Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, the firm that operates power transmission lines, in a separate filing said on October 9 it was awarded the project to construct transmission lines in Kenya. Thereafter, it had incorporated a step-down subsidiary in Kenya. "We submit that the project does not fall within the ambit of item 4 of Para B, Part A, Schedule III of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, as amended (Sebi Listing Regulations) which requires intimation to be made for any awarding, bagging/ receiving, amendment or termination of awarded/bagged orders/contracts other than in the ordinary course of business," it said refusing to confirm or deny the cancellation. It went on to state that the award of the project was in the ordinary course of business of the company and its subsidiaries as they are engaged in the business of transmission and distribution of energy (among other things). "Consequently, any cancellation of such Project will also not fall within the ambit of item 4 of Para B, Part A, Schedule III of the Sebi Listing Regulations," it added. Under the proposed airport deal worth nearly USD 2 billion, the conglomerate was to add a second runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and upgrade the passenger terminal. It was also to operate it on a 30-year lease. Kenya's President in his state of the nation address on Thursday also stated that he was cancelling a separate 30-year, USD 736-million public-private partnership that an Adani Group firm signed with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum last month to construct power transmission lines. That followed US authorities indicting group Founder and Chairman Gautam Adani and seven others for allegedly agreeing to pay USD 265 million to Indian officials to win lucrative solar power supply contracts. The Adani Group denied the allegations as baseless and said it would seek "all possible legal recourse". The tender to operate Kenya's main airport was put on hold following local protests. Adani Energy Solutions Ltd had last month signed a project agreement with the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (Ketraco) for developing three transmission lines and two substations. Former Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok, head of the Tagadum leadership body, said members agreed to refer the issues of a civilian front, the political process, and delegitimizing the Port Sudan government to the mechanism for comprehensive study and broad consultation within Tagadum’s components. The leadership body met in Entebbe from Dec. 3-6. In his closing remarks, Hamdok urged countries in the region to pressure the warring parties to declare a cease-fire and expedite the opening of humanitarian corridors, building on the progress achieved at the Jeddah platform. He said the war in Sudan surpasses the scale of crises in Gaza, Lebanon and Ukraine. Hamdok renewed his call for unity and coordination among the civilian spectrum and what he termed the “anti-war peace camp,” emphasizing the importance of unity in achieving the aspirations of Sudanese people seeking peace. “We will remain committed to the issues of our afflicted people, alongside our comrades in the peace camp, to end the war in our country and make it the last,” he said. “We are working to rescue innocent people from the humanitarian catastrophe and establish a new Sudan.” Hamdok outlined key issues discussed during the meetings, including citizen protection, the humanitarian crisis, challenges in delivering aid within Sudan, particularly to displacement camps and conflict zones, and problems faced by refugees in neighbouring countries. He said the meetings addressed organizational matters to strengthen Tagadum’s structures, identify shortcomings and develop solutions. “We have updated our political direction in line with current developments and discussed and developed our political vision to move forward in this broad alliance with greater steadfastness and unity,” Hamdok said. He thanked the government and people of Uganda, led by President Yoweri Museveni, for hosting the meeting and for providing refuge to 10,000 Sudanese displaced by the war, calling it a “living embodiment of African solidarity.”

Tokyo, Japan — Japanese auto giant Honda and its struggling rival Nissan agreed Monday to launch talks on a merger seen as a bid to catch up with Chinese rivals and Tesla on electric vehicles. Their collaboration would create the world's third largest automaker, expanding development of EVs and self-driving tech. But Honda's CEO insisted that it was not a bailout for Nissan, who last month announced thousands of job cuts and reported a 93 percent plunge in first-half net profit. "This is not a rescue," Toshihiro Mibe told reporters, stressing that one condition for the merger would be for Nissan to complete its so-called "turnaround" plan. Lacklustre consumer spending and stiff competition in several markets is making life hard for many automakers. Business has been especially tough for foreign brands in China, where electric vehicle manufacturers such as BYD are leading the way as demand grows for less polluting vehicles. The two firms along with Mitsubishi Motors said they had signed a memorandum of understanding to start discussions on integrating their business under a new holding company. Citing "dramatic changes in the environment surrounding both companies and the automotive industry", a joint statement said the companies planned to list the holding company on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in August 2026. It comes after reports said Taiwanese electronics behemoth Foxconn had unsuccessfully approached Nissan to acquire a majority share. It then asked Renault to sell its 35 percent stake in Nissan -- a pursuit now said to have been put on hold. Unequal marriage China overtook Japan as the biggest vehicle exporter last year, helped by government support for EVs. Honda and Nissan -- Japan's number two and three automakers after Toyota -- already agreed in March to explore a strategic partnership on software and components for EVs among other technologies. This partnership was joined by Mitsubishi Motors in August. The companies want to seal their merger deal in June next year, but it is unlikely to be a marriage of equals. Honda will nominate the president of the new holding company, whose board will be mostly made up of Honda executives, their statement said. Nissan is a majority shareholder of Mitsubishi Motors, which "aims to reach its conclusion by the end of January 2025 on the participation or involvement in the business integration between Nissan and Honda," it added. Honda and Nissan's partnership could include a manufacturing tie-up where they build vehicles at each other's plants, local media said. 'Panic mode' Nissan chief Makoto Uchida praised Honda's agility and ability to adapt as the industry shifts, praising the company as "a partner who can share the sense of crisis about the future". "As the business environment for automakers changes in the future, I believe we will not be able to get there unless we have the courage to change ourselves," Uchida said. Nissan has weathered a turbulent decade, including the 2018 arrest of former boss Carlos Ghosn, who later jumped bail and fled Japan concealed in a music equipment box. Ghosn told reporters in Tokyo on Monday via video link from Lebanon, where he is at large, that turning to its arch-rival Honda showed that Nissan was in "panic mode". Although the two companies might be able to "find synergies for the future... I don't see anything obvious into this partnership or this alliance", Ghosn said.
