SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Brock Purdy threw one short pass in the open portion of practice for the San Francisco 49ers as he remains slowed by an injury to his throwing shoulder that has already forced him to miss a game. Purdy spent the bulk of the session of Wednesday's practice open to reporters as either a spectator or executing handoffs outside of one short pass to Jordan Mason. Purdy hurt his shoulder during a loss to Seattle on Nov. 17. He tried to throw at practice last Thursday but had soreness in his right shoulder and shut it down. He missed a loss to Green Bay but was able to do some light throwing on Monday. His status for this week remains in doubt as the Niners (5-6) prepare to visit Buffalo on Sunday night. Purdy isn't the only key player for San Francisco dealing with injuries. Left tackle Trent Williams and defensive end Nick Bosa remain sidelined at practice Wednesday after missing last week's game. Williams was using a scooter to get around the locker room as he deals with a left ankle injury. Bosa has been out with injuries to his left hip and oblique. Bosa said the week off helped him make progress and that he hopes to be able to take part in individual drills later in the week. Bosa wouldn't rule out being able to play on Sunday. "It’s feeling a lot better,” Bosa said. “Still need to get better before I’m ready to go. This week will be big and I’ll know a lot more in the next couple of days.” Running back Christian McCaffrey has been able to play, but isn't back to the form that helped him win AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2023 after missing the first eight games this season with Achilles tendinitis. McCaffrey has 149 yards rushing in three games back with his 3.5 yards per carry down significantly from last season's mark of 5.4. But he is confident he will be able to get back to his usual level of play. “When you lose and maybe you don’t jump out on the stat sheet, your failures are highlighted,” he said. “I’m happy I’m out here playing football and I just know with time it will come.” Coach Kyle Shanahan said he has liked what he has seen from McCaffrey, adding that there hasn't been much room to run in recent weeks. But Shanahan said it takes time to get back to speed after McCaffrey had almost no practice time for nine months. “Guys who miss offseasons and miss training camp, usually it takes them a little bit of time at the beginning of the year to get back into how they were the year before, let alone missing half the season also on top of that,” Shanahan said. “I think Christian’s doing a hell of a job. But to just think him coming back in Week 8 with not being able to do anything for the last nine months or whatever it is, and to think he’s just going to be in MVP form is a very unrealistic expectation.” NOTES: LB Dre Greenlaw took part in his first practice since tearing his Achilles tendon in the Super Bowl. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLTALLINN, Estonia (AP) — Belarus has granted asylum to a former Polish judge who faced espionage charges at home following his defection in May to the Kremlin-allied country. A decree published Friday by Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus’ autocratic president, described Tomasz Szmydt as being “prosecuted for political reasons” in Poland. The country is an EU and NATO member that has lent vocal support to Ukraine in . Szmydt’s defection to Belarus in May trained the focus on Poland as a key target for Russian intelligence activity and ignited a bitter political row over the circumstances of his rapid ascent through the ranks of the Polish justice system. Poland’s prosecutors and special services launched an investigation the same month after Belarus media reported that Szmydt arrived in the country and asked for protection. Warsaw responded days later by , a step toward an international arrest warrant on spying allegations that would restrict his ability to travel internationally. Polish officials have been working to determine how harmful Szmydt’s knowledge of any classified information might be to the interests of Warsaw and its Western allies. Poland’s Prime Minister has publicly called him a traitor. Szmydt fled to Belarus after resigning from his post as a judge at the Warsaw Administrative Court, saying in a public statement that he was doing so in protest against Poland’s “harmful and unjust” policy toward Belarus and Russia. A short time later, he appeared at a press conference in Belarus, praising Lukashenko’s regime and presenting himself as a victim of repression. A Polish court later that month lifted Szmydt’s immunity, allowing him to be tried in absentia for spying allegations that he has denied. Szmydt was notorious in Poland for having engaged in a 2019 online smear campaign against other judges that was sponsored by the . Three years later, he appeared to switch sides, appearing in a TV documentary to expose what he said was unethical behavior by judges close to the ruling party. Szmydt’s defection came as a shock in Poland, which has a history of distrust of Russia. Belarus has been one of the Kremlin’s few close allies since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and Lukashenko has relied on Moscow’s subsidies and support. In return, he has allowed Moscow to use Belarusian territory to send troops and weapons into the neighboring state, and to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on Belarusian soil. Authorities in Minsk have been ratcheting up repressive measures ahead of a presidential election in January in which the strongman leader is seeking a seventh term, including by who have shown solidarity with Kyiv. Authorities responded to massive protests following the widely disputed with a wide-ranging crackdown in which about 65,000 people were arrested. Major opposition figures were either imprisoned or fled the country, and human rights activists say Belarus is holding about 1,300 political prisoners.

Instacart’s CEO is focusing on grocery partnerships amid investor skepticism. Fidji Simo discussed these efforts in an interview with Bloomberg’s The Circuit With Emily Chang, set to air Thursday (Nov. 21) evening. Since becoming CEO, the report notes, Simo has made Instacart’s higher-margin enterprise business a higher priority, focusing on things like last-mile delivery, building white-label websites and selling advertising slots on the company app. Instacart has also expanded into brick-and-mortar offerings such as electronic shelf tags and smart shopping carts . Simo thinks that serving as a technology partner for grocers can help the company compete against Walmart and Amazon as those giants invest in digital grocery tech . “The Amazons and Walmarts of the world might get a fair share of people, but if your favorite retailer of choice is a Publix, a Kroger, an Albertsons, we really are the best place for that,” Simo told The Circuit. Inside the company, she added, these efforts have helped her establish credibility, an edge that she didn’t have as a non-founder taking the job of chief executive. As Bloomberg notes, the grocery delivery company is dealing with a loss in value as Americans return to in-store shopping. Instacart’s market value — which peaked at $39 billion before the company’s initial public offering (IPO) — has fallen to just over $10 billion. More than a year after the firm went public, the report said, analysts disagree on their recommendations for Instacart’s stock. Bloomberg says its data shows 16 hold ratings and 14 buys. And last week, the company’s earnings report showed a mixed outlook. While delivery sales had been resilient, the firm also released weaker-than-anticipated guidance for its fourth quarter. Instacart’s stock dropped by a record 11% following these results. PYMNTS CEO Karen Webster spoke earlier this year with Instacart Chief Product Officer Daniel Danker about the company’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to upgrade its digital grocery experience, with a focus on affordability. “It always has to come back to the customer,” Danker told Webster. “It has to solve a problem. We can’t just have technology for the sake of technology .” It’s a strategy built around convenience and personalization, with features such as the “Buy it again” function, which typically contains more than 200 items for the average user. “We want to make it effortless, and it’s beginner AI,” he told Webster, adding that the first step is making food decisions effortless for the shopper. “Intermediate and advanced is going to get really exciting.”
New Delhi: Bihar's deputy CM and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha on Wednesday said that a BJP government on its own will be a fitting tribute to the late former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee . But the mission is still not accomplished. Only when BJP has its own government in Bihar, we will be able to pay true tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee." "Only when BJP forms a government (on its own) in Bihar, the fire and yearning inside the hearts of the party workers will be pacified. Because, even today, the people of jungle raj are spoiling the social harmony of Bihar. Even today Bihar is suffering from their influence," he said. Incidentally, BJP is an alliance partner of Janata Dal (United), whose leader Nitish Kumar is the state's chief minister. Sinha's statements have come a day after Bihar BJP's core group announced that the party will contest the next assembly elections under Kumar's leadership. The statement is bound to create ripples in Bihar political circles. quarterback has stirred speculation about his NFL future, particularly regarding a potential connection to the , after a curious move on social media. Sanders, who is expected to enter the NFL Draft after his final college season, has been linked to several teams, including the and the Giants. Rumors about his preferences gained momentum after the made a significant roster change this week, releasing quarterback . , who had been benched earlier, reportedly requested the release himself, as confirmed by team owner John Mara. "Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him,'' Mara said. "We mutually agreed that would be best for him and the team. Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. "His handling of the situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.'' Sanders' gesture on social media The shared the news on their social media platforms, and fans quickly noticed Sanders liking the announcement on Instagram. His gesture fueled excitement, especially in light of ' recent lack of comments about the Giants. During a podcast interview, when asked if he'd like to join the team, laughed and offered a coy "no comment," leaving fans guessing about his intentions. With his skill set and on-field charisma, has been seen as a potential franchise-changing quarterback. The prospect of him joining forces with a talent such as Malik Nabers, should their paths cross in the NFL, has sparked buzz among fans.Angel Yin last month at the BMW Ladies Championship. Getty Images NAPLES, Fla. — Eavesdropping on Angel Yin, you overhear thoughts on...Teslas. She’d eyed a luxury car passing by, and she brings up the subject. She also has questions about...Roger Clemens. Her caddie has looped for the former pitcher, and Yin was curious. And then there’s conversation on drivers. But that’s a given. Yin is one of the best players on the planet, and this week, she’s among the 60 who’ve made it to the CME Group Tour Championship, the LPGA’s season finale. She’s also a lively thinker, too. And a personality, arguably the brightest on tour. You’ve maybe seen her channel Deion Sanders . You’ve perhaps heard her session with reporters last year at the CME, where she discussed, well, a little of everything. So it’s worth catching up to her this year, if only to hear, well, a little bit more. The author’s questions are in italics. Though you could probably guess who’s who. First subject? Her thoughts on the Tour Championship’s record prize. What would $4 million mean to you if you won? “A lot of cash, a lot of taxes, but a lot of cushion for my career, for the year and for the year after, so I can have more freedom of who I want to hire and what I want on my team. It creates a lot of financial freedom. We want sponsorships because we want them to support our career, and we do need it at times because our profession is such a gamble from time to time. Just gives us as a player and as a person more freedom.” What would be the most fun thing you’d spend it on? “I don’t know. Checking out stocks. I’ve been getting lately into stocks. Probably that would be more my fun thing. Invest it.” I think this year, in pro golf in general, it seems like there are a lot of suggestions, a lot of ideas on the table. There’s change. There are adjustments on the men’s tour, the women’s tour. If you were in charge of the LPGA, what’s a big-ticket item you would change? “That’s a pretty loaded question because I don’t know if there’s a big-ticket item I would change because I think the direction we’re in right now is good. We have a big wave of women’s sports that’s on the rise. Probably my main focus on all of it is not getting more sponsors but getting us known. As women’s sports are on the rise, if you don’t surf it, it just dies out and you need to catch that wave.” Have you thought about a way that can happen? “Oh, I don’t know. I think stuff like that, to go into detail, to be able to give an honest answer, is someone being able to look at all the numbers and all the strategies in the last five, six years and see where we can progress and compare to what other organizations are doing. If I had to give an answer right now, it would be investing into players. For example, Nelly [Korda] . Nelly’s doing a lot. Nelly won her seventh tournament, she got her Sports Illustrated swimsuit, she went to the Met Gala — she’s doing a lot. And she’s putting her name out there. Whether she knows, she’s also representing all of us and so we appreciate what she does a lot and she’s doing good. And so yeah, just invest in players.” What’s a real small thing you would change? To give you help with the answer, I asked this question last year to Jon Rahm , and he said on the men’s tour, he’d like to see more bathrooms on the course. So it could be something as minor as that. But what would you change low-key? “Man, I really haven’t thought about it because — let’s think about it. More bathrooms? No, I think we have enough bathrooms. And because you know why bathrooms aren’t a big issue? Because as girls, we cannot just go anywhere to go pee. And so it’s been an issue we’ve tackled, and I think we’ve seen the results on that. Honestly right now, we’re doing OK. ... But overall, our tour is pretty good for accommodating us.” Along those lines, and you’ve kind of mentioned, with Nelly, with women’s sports in general, the Caitlin Clark rise in women’s basketball, that this has been an opportunity for the LPGA to capture that moment. Do you think they’ve done a good job of that? “No.” Why do you say that? “Gosh, it just doesn’t feel like it. It’s an opinion. Caitlin Clark coming over to our tournament created a crowd, created a buzz — didn’t feel like it got out there enough. Went out to a certain amount of people. But I don’t know, like I said, to give a detailed answer, I have to like — I want to be more responsible with my answers so I just don’t want to speak. But if you have to ask how I feel about that, I don’t really think we’ve capitalized that much. Just riding the wave that other people are doing and we’re just associated with women. Unfortunately, I don’t think we have done enough.” One golf instruction question I had. So my 16-year-old nephew is trying to break 80 and get onto his high school varsity team next year. What’s one tip you’d give him? “Hit through the ball and not at the ball. It’s simple. I think a lot of people try to hit at the ball because it’s the one ballgame you play that the ball is really stationary and you have to go after it. In football, they’re throwing it at you; tennis, the ball is coming at you — you’re reacting. Where this one, you have to, I don’t know, go after the ball. It’s a little bit different. You have to make the ball move.” One last question. Is slow play an issue on the LPGA tour? “So, I have my opinions. I know Charley [Hull] gave an answer .” I’m going to ask for your solution after. “I just found out about it this morning. It was pretty funny and I joked about it on the golf course today. But if I have to really say, over the years I’ve been on tour, I think it was worse before. It was worse before, we were waiting more, and I think now we have a good mixture of fast players and then that’s when the slow players really start showing up. Because the majority of the girls are playing much faster, where you cannot be really too slow or then you start getting behind. Although we are having more delays on the tees this year. But that could be course setup this year, the spacing and everything. Our pro-ams are slower. That could also be a spacing issue. So I don’t really think it’s specifically the players.” Like last week and the lack of daylight. “Yes. I think it’s just a spacing issue because we get up to the tee box and we’re already delayed and we’re in a morning tee time. So how can that fall onto a player? And that’s also going back to where I think we can improve as a tour, a small issue. I can’t point fingers too much, but there are certain types of people who I feel like they should be able to manage that better. I think the easiest way to point fingers without thinking too deep into it is players slow-play, but it takes a lot for the schedules to fit, and if the schedules don’t fit, then we’re just sitting on a hole. And I think that’s where it’s showing up. At the U.S. Open, we had a slow hole where there was like four groups stacked up there. But that’s also because the pin was in a really ridiculous ...” The par-3. “Yeah. Nelly got a 10 , I think. So stuff like that. It has nothing to do with the player. I’m pretty sure Nelly is going really fast. When you’re taking drops and you’re doing this and that, there’s nothing we can do about it. Or for example, last week on 18, there’s a rules official sitting on that hole, waiting for us. If a player makes a seven, they’re going to take seven shots and seven shots of time. So that accumulates. So I think that’s where it’s happening. And so my solution is better scheduling, better placement. It should be tough. It shouldn’t be stupid. But yeah, I think there are slow players out there, but I definitely don’t think it’s as bad as before. Because when I first came out on tour, I could take a nap. It was terrible. And they were really just getting warnings. So they’re much harsher now. They’re doing the right steps. But I think it’s just always easy for everybody to point fingers at the players.” Latest In News Golf.com Editor Nick Piastowski is a Senior Editor at Golf.com and Golf Magazine.
