Mathematics, in a very simple manner if approached means science about truth. However, the decline in its respect amongst the evolving youngsters has different causes. In earlier times, people who tend to study and carry on with Maths were regarded as people with high IQ, so only fewest of the total population would choose to go along with this subject. In the meantime, with the explosion of technology and Artificial Intelligence, this subject secures its rank in every manner, as Mathematics is thought of as the backbone of science. However, current times do not seem to comprehend the need to study Mathematics as a subject, rather it has become a part of engineering courses. Being a Pure Mathematician, it becomes obligatory for me to contribute to the enhancement of Mathematics as a subject or re-attainment of its position in the academic system. Let’s commence from recognising the fields where Mathematics has played crucial role. The ground for the higher mathematics is set by the concept of Sets, Relations and Functions, Linear Algebra and Modern Algebra. Nonetheless, everyday life demands continuous use of basic mathematics as in terms of budgeting, driving, managing time, exercising, cooking, stitching, trading etc. No such an event that doesn’t require mathematics some or the other way. Well, we can celebrate this National Mathematics Day by visualising different shades of math beyond classroom. Let’s first consider the concept of relations, which in maths means how the elements of one set are related to the elements of other set. This concept enables us to understand how the students are associated with their grades, another example being the temperature at different times in a day, a particular group of people and their ages and so on. The next very immediate concept being the subset of a relation itself called as function. Function, also being a relation, but the only difference that function generates exactly one output for one input but contrary to that a relation has many outputs for a single input. To see that in real life, we can consider the human appearances, one person with exactly one unique appearance. Moreover, students in a particular classroom with exactly one identification number, aadhar numbers etc. Next, we study the concept of differentiation which in layman’s language means the rate of change. To further see that in real life we can consider a moving car, where we can see the change of distance with respect to time, the rate of change of speed with respect to time, or change of velocity with respect to time and what not. Similarly, we see the rotation of earth with respect to the sun and the rotation of other planets with respect to sun or earth and among themselves as well. Another most important concept is that of matrices which is used in geology for conducting seismic surveys, in computer sciences for programming 3D games etc. Another prominent application of mathematics (in particular, Number Theory) lies in the field of Cryptography, which involves encryption and decryption of data for security purposes. As by the use of coding and decoding, one can secretly send a message from one place to another without anyone manipulating the same. For example, if we divide english alphabet in two sets, first 13 and later 13. Then join them by a bijective function, so we can write HELLO by URYYB. So that message goes encrypted. This is a very basic way, we have advanced ways as well. This field itself has got many efficient uses for national or international level of confidential communications or transmission of sensitive information. Fibonacci series in mathematics, is a sequence of numbers in which each consecutive number is equal to the sum of the two numbers that come before it. For instance, if you start with the number zero, this is what a Fibonacci series would look like: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and so on. The Fibonacci series is famously found in nature–trees, flowers, and other naturally occurring spiral structures grow leaves and petals that follow the sequence. It’s also particularly useful when it comes to cryptology, the study of codes and how to solve them. With modern technology, the Fibonacci series can be used to encrypt sensitive information over the internet for security purposes. The toughest field of mathematics so far known is the Topology, which literally means the study of place, or the study of surfaces. In this field of mathematics, we study how we can transform one object into another without any cut-paste, yet one can mould, stretch, crumple, bend or tear the object with the use of proper transformation (preserving the features of the object, mathematically called as homeomorphism. Thus, for a topologist, a coffee mug and donut (also known as torus) are same, as each of these two objects possess a single hole which is preserved during the transformation (homeomorphism). Such things are mathematically termed as topologically equivalent. One more observation, as being a topologist, we believe in two perspectives of looking at a particular object, one is locally and another globally. Thus, for us, Earth is flat (locally) but round (globally). Another very eminent concept of mathematics is that of metric spaces, which leads to understand the distance between any two points in a space or a set. This metric being a distance measuring function has got direct application in the field of Biology. Since genotypes-phenotypes are of very primary importance in biology, we see how topology is even useful in sequencing the right nucleotides in DNA strand. Genotypes are the internally veiled and inheritable information of a living being while as phenotypes are the physical appearances of that information. Topology solves one most important problem in DNA research. As we know that DNA is composed of four nucleotides: Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine and Thymine. These are arranged in a manner that they resemble a sequence. The sequence of nucleotides on every single chain of DNA decides the sequence of the other chain. The problem found in DNA research is in the comparison of distinct DNA sequences. So using the concept of metric spaces (a special type of topological spaces), we measure the distance between two sequences, where the distance function(metric) gives the intuition towards the nature of evolutionary history of species. Let’s consider x and y to be the two sequences of letters A , C , G and T . To calculate the distance between x and y , we fix the number of operations on x to turn it into y . We can apply three operations that is insertion, deletion and replacement for the sequence say P to turn x into y . In current era, we owe Mathematics a standing ovation for preserving the logic behinds theories. Let’s not underestimate the contribution of maths to all the fields of science and non-science. Dr. Mir Aaliya, Mathematics Faculty in Govt. Degree College, SoporeNEW DELHI: The Delhi Police's Crime Branch has arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Naresh Balyan in connection with a year-old extortion case and alleged ties to gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu. The arrest follows the emergence of an audio clip featuring an alleged conversation between Balyan and the notorious gangster, who is currently operating from abroad. According to police sources, Balyan was initially detained but subsequently arrested for failing to cooperate during questioning. The Crime Branch is expected to present him before a Delhi court tomorrow, seeking his custodial remand to advance the investigation. The controversy erupted after the BJP released an audio clip in which Balyan could be allegedly heard instructing gangster Nandu to threaten and extort money from a builder in the city. The audio clip intensified political tensions in the capital, with the BJP accusing the AAP of harboring individuals with criminal tendencies. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva launched a scathing attack on the ruling party, citing the recent conviction of AAP MLA Naresh Yadav in a 2016 case of Quran desecration. “Arvind Kejriwal’s party shelters individuals who insult religious sentiments and are connected to heinous crimes,” said Sachdeva, further alleging links between AAP leaders and international terror outfits. The AAP, however, dismissed the arrest as politically motivated. Party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh called the audio clip “fabricated” and accused the BJP of resorting to desperate measures. “The BJP has yet again mocked the justice system with fake claims,” Singh said, reiterating that the courts had already stayed the dissemination of the audio clip.

Dow Jones Futures: Market Still At Highs, Bitcoin Can't Hold $100K; When To Sell 'Heat' StocksHome Financing Innovations: New Ways to Own and Improve Property’Twas the night before Christmas here on the farm, not a creature as stirring out in the barn. The boots were placed by the back door with care at the hopes of not hearing mama holler, “No mud through the house, don’t you dare!” The children were nestled all snug in their beds with visions of early morning chores fresh in their heads. And Ma in her Wranglers and I in my hat finally sat down at the table dreaming of a much-needed nap. When out in the pasture there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the table to see what was the matter. I reached for my rope and threw up the sash. Out the door with my rifle, I flew like a flash. The moon on the breast of the fresh-cut hay gave a luster of midday to objects that neigh. When what to my wondering eyes did appear but a red F250 pulled by 500 reindeer. With a little ol’ cowboy so tired yet still quick I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick More rapid than red-tailed hawks. His coursers they came And he whistled and yipped and called them by name. Now, Blackjack! Now, Bourbon! Now, Poncho! Now, Dixen! On, Outlaw! On, Sassy! On, Odessa and Blizten! To the top of the barn and every last stall. Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away y’all. As dry crops that before. The wild tornado fly. When they meet with an obstacle. Mount to the sky. So up to the hayloft the coursers they flew. With a sleigh full of toys and cowboy Nick too. And then, in a twinkling I heard on the roof the clipping and clopping of each little hoof. As I was drawing my rope and turning around down the hayloft, ol’ Nick came with a bound. He was dressed in all Carhart from his hat to his boots and his clothes were all tarnished with manure and soot. A bundle of toys he had flung over his shoulder and he looked like a cowpoke standing there with his hand on his holster. His eyes they looked tired. His dimples, how merry! His cheeks were windburned. His nose chapped like a cherry. His handlebar mustache drawn up like a bow and the whiskers on his chin were as white as the snow. The butt of a smoke he held tight in his teeth and the smoke, it encircled. His head like a wreath. He had broad face. And a little beer belly that shook when he laughed like a bow full of jelly. He was chubby and plump. Hadn’t missed many a supper. A well fed ol’ cowboy thanks to mainly to the higher upper. A right jolly ol’ elf And I laughed when I saw him, but only to myself. A wink of his eye and a twist of his head soon gave me to know He approved of my spread. He spoke not a word but went straight to work and filled all the stockings but mine because I’d been a bit of a jerk. And swaying his finger in the air with some cowboy prose. Back up the loft ladder he ascended and rose he sprang to his sleigh to his team gave a yip and away they all flew Like the of a whistle of a whip. But I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight can’t even one of you damn horses listen to me even for one night? Merry Cowboy Christmas to all and to all a Good Night.Photo: The Canadian Press The TikTok Inc. building is seen in Culver City, Calif., March 17, 2023. President-elect Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court on Friday to pause the potential TikTok ban from going into effect until his administration can pursue a “political resolution” to the issue. The request came as TikTok and the Biden administration filed opposing briefs to the court, in which the company argued the court should strike down a law that could ban the platform by Jan. 19 while the government emphasized its position that the statute is needed to eliminate a national security risk. “President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute. Instead, he respectfully requests that the Court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment of January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits of this case,” said Trump’s amicus brief, which supported neither party in the case and was written by D. John Sauer, Trump’s choice for solicitor general. The argument submitted to the court is the latest example of Trump inserting himself in national issues before he takes office. The Republican president-elect has already begun negotiating with other countries over his plans to impose tariffs, and he intervened earlier this month in a plan to fund the federal government, calling for a bipartisan plan to be rejected and sending Republicans back to the negotiating table. Trump has also reversed his position on the popular app, having tried to ban it during his first term in office over national security concerns. He joined the app during his 2024 presidential campaign and his team used it to connect with younger voters, especially male voters, by pushing content that was often macho and aimed at going viral. He said earlier this year that he still believed there were national security risks with TikTok, but that he opposed banning it. This month, Trump also met with TikTok CEO Shou Chew at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. The filings Friday come ahead of oral arguments scheduled for Jan. 10 on whether the law, which requires TikTok to divest from its China-based parent company or face a ban, unlawfully restricts speech in violation of the First Amendment. The law was was signed by President Joe Biden in April after it passed Congress with broad bipartisan support. TikTok and ByteDance filed a legal challenge afterwards. Earlier this month, a panel of three federal judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit unanimously upheld the statute , leading TikTok to appeal the case to the Supreme Court. The brief from Trump said he opposes banning TikTok at this junction and “seeks the ability to resolve the issues at hand through political means once he takes office.” In their brief to the Supreme Court on Friday, attorneys for TikTok and its parent company ByteDance argued the federal appeals court erred in its ruling and based its decision on “alleged ‘risks’ that China could exercise control” over TikTok’s U.S. platform by pressuring its foreign affiliates. The Biden administration has argued in court that TikTok poses a national security risk due to its connections to China. Officials say Chinese authorities can compel ByteDance to hand over information on TikTok’s U.S. patrons or use the platform to spread or suppress information. But the government “concedes that it has no evidence China has ever attempted to do so,” TikTok’s legal filing said, adding that the U.S. fears are predicated on future risks. In its filing Friday, the Biden administration said because TikTok “is integrated with ByteDance and relies on its propriety engine developed and maintained in China,” its corporate structure carries with it risk.
German Christmas market attacker offered reward for whereabouts of Saudi ambassador: ReportPORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Honey, they shrunk the catalogs. While retailers hope to go big this holiday season , customers may notice that the printed gift guides arriving in their mailboxes are smaller. Many of the millions of catalogs getting sent to U.S. homes were indeed scaled down to save on postage and paper, resulting in pint-sized editions. Lands’ End, Duluth Trading Company and Hammacher Schlemmer are among gift purveyors using smaller editions. Some retailers are saving even more money with postcards. Lisa Ayoob, a tech-savvy, online shopper in Portland, Maine, was surprised by the size of a recent catalog she received from outdoor apparel company Carbon2Cobalt. “It almost felt like it was a pamphlet compared to a catalog,” she said. Catalogs have undergone a steady recalibration over the years in response to technological changes and consumer behavior. The thick, heavy Sears and J.C. Penney catalogs that brought store displays to American living rooms slimmed down and gave way to targeted mailings once websites could do the same thing. Recent postal rate increases accelerated the latest shift to compact formats. The number of catalogs mailed each year dropped about 40% between 2006 to 2018, when an estimated 11.5 billion were mailed to homes, according to the trade group formerly known as the American Catalog Mailers Association. In a sign of the times, the group based in Washington rebranded itself in May as the American Commerce Marketing Association, reflecting a broadened focus. But don't expect catalogs to go the way of dinosaurs yet. Defying predictions of doom, they have managed to remain relevant in the e-commerce era. Retail companies found that could treat catalogs with fewer pages as a marketing tool and include QR and promo codes to entice customers to browse online and complete a purchase. Despite no longer carrying an extended inventory of goods, catalogs are costly to produce and ship. But they hold their own in value because of growing digital advertising costs, helping retailers cut through the noise for consumers barraged by multi-format advertisements, industry officials say. In an unlikely twist, notable e-commerce companies like Amazon and home goods supplier Wayfair started distributing catalogs in recent years. Amazon began mailing a toy catalog in 2018. That was the same year Sears, which produced an annual Christmas Wish Book Wish starting in 1933, filed for bankruptc y. Fans of printed information may rejoice to hear that apparel retailer J.Crew relaunched its glossy catalog this year. Research shows that the hands-on experience of thumbing through a catalog leaves a greater impression on consumers, said Jonathan Zhang, a professor of marketing at Colorado State University. “The reason why these paper formats are so effective is that our human brains haven’t evolved as fast as technology and computers over the past 10 to 20 years. We retain more information when we read something on paper. That's why paper books remain relevant," Zhang said. “The psychology shows that three-dimensional, tactile experiences are more memorable.” Pint-sized presentations still can work, though, because the purpose of catalogs these days is simply to get customers’ attention, Zhang said. Conserving paper also works better with younger consumers who are worried about the holiday shopping season's impact on the planet, he said. Postal increases are hastening changes. The latest round of postage hikes in July included the category with the 8.5-by-11-inch size that used to be ubiquitous for the catalog industry. Many retailers responded by reducing the size of catalogs, putting them in a lower-cost letter category, said Paul Miller, executive vice president and managing director of the American Commerce Marketing Association. One size, called a “slim jim,” measures 10.5 by 5.5 inches. But there other sizes. Some retailers have further reduced costs by mailing large postcards to consumers. Lands' End, for one, is testing new compact formats to supplement its traditional catalogs. This year, that included folded glossy brochures and postcards, along with other formats, Chief Transformation Officer Angie Rieger said. Maine resident Ayoob said she understands why retailers still use catalogs even though she no longer is a fan of the format. These days, she prefers to browse for products on the internet, not by flipping through paper pages. “Everybody wants eyeballs. There’s so much out there -- so many websites, so many brands,” said Ayoob, who spent 35 years working in department stores and in the wholesale industry. Targeting customers at home is not a new concept. L.L. Bean was a pioneer of the mail-order catalog after its founder promoted his famous “Maine Hunting Shoe” to hunting license holders from out-of-state in 1912. The outdoor clothing and equipment company based in Freeport, Maine, is sticking to mailing out regular-sized catalogs for now. “By showcasing our icons, the catalog became an icon itself,” L.L. Bean spokesperson Amanda Hannah said. "Even as we invest more in our digital and brand marketing channels, the catalog retains a strong association with our brand, and is therefore an important part of our omni-channel strategy, especially for our loyal customers.”

New Delhi: Over 71.81 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) numbers have been generated (till December 22) and 46.53 crore health records have been linked with ABHA, the government said on Sunday. In addition to this, over 3.55 lakh health facilities have been registered on Healthcare Professionals Registry (HFR) and more than 5.38 lakh healthcare professionals have been registered on HPR. In the last 10 years, the country has implemented transformative policies and initiatives that reflect a steadfast commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage. A key milestone in this journey was the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). AB-PMJAY provides health cover of Rs 5 lakh per eligible beneficiary family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisations corresponding to 1,961 treatment procedures across 27 specialties. As of December 17, AB PM-JAY has made significant strides with over 36.28 crore Ayushman Cards issued, empowering millions with health coverage. Gender-wise utilisation shows that women account for 49 per cent of the issued Ayushman cards and almost 50 per cent of total hospital admissions, showcasing the scheme’s role in promoting gender equity in healthcare, according to the Health Ministry. Additionally, AB PM-JAY has successfully empaneled 30,932 hospitals across the country. Another cornerstone of India’s healthcare achievements is Mission Indradhanush, which has expanded immunisation coverage under the Universal Immunisation Programme. “Mission Indradhanush includes a provision of 11 types of vaccines enhancing protection against preventable diseases. A total of 5.46 crore children and 1.32 crore pregnant women have been vaccinated in all phases of Mission Indradhanush conducted so far in the country,” informed the ministry. These efforts are underscored by a remarkable improvement in key health indicators, which highlight the effectiveness of targeted healthcare strategies and interventions. Maternal Mortality Ratio reduced from 103 per 100,000 live births in 2017-2019 to 97 per 100,000 live births in 2018-20. Infant Mortality Rate reduced from 32 per 1000 live births in 2018 to 28 per 1000 live births in 2020 and Total Fertility Rate is reduced from 2.2 in 2015-16 to 2.0 in 2019-21. “This progress is a testament to consumer-centric policies and initiatives supported by regular monitoring to ensure efficiency and impact.,” the ministry said.CCTVs across Hyderabad to be overhauled in 2025, says CV AnandTrump gave Interior nominee one directive for a half-billion acres of US land: ‘Drill.’
