EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Babacar Faye's 19 points helped Western Kentucky defeat Evansville 79-65 on Saturday. Faye had 12 rebounds for the Hilltoppers (5-3). Don McHenry scored 17 points and added three steals. Julius Thedford shot 4 for 7 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 7 of 9 from the free-throw line to finish with 16 points. The Purple Aces (3-6) were led by Cameron Haffner, who posted 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Gabriel Pozzato added 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals for Evansville. Sometimes, you might even buy a DLC or Season Pass ahead of a game's release to secure future promised content. However, there are obvious risks to doing that. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was limited with the right shoulder injury that sidelined him last week and there is growing concern about the long-term status of left tackle Trent Williams. Wednesday's practice was not the start to the NFL workweek head coach Kyle Shanahan had hoped after Purdy was unable to bounce back from a shoulder injury in Week 11. Brandon Allen started at Green Bay and the 49ers (5-6) lost 38-10 with the backup-turned-starter committing three turnovers. Williams was reportedly spotted in the locker room with a knee scooter and is experiencing pain walking. He played through an ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks Nov. 17. RIYADH, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The first phase of Riyadh Metro was launched on Wednesday, a significant step to reshape the Saudi capital's public transport landscape. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud inaugurated the project, which is expected to become Riyadh's public transport network backbone. The Riyadh Metro includes six train lines spanning 176 km and 85 stations, including four main hubs. The SPA reported that three lines will open to the public on Dec. 1, with "gradual launches" completing the network across the city. During the inauguration, the king said the Riyadh Public Transport Project, which spans metro and bus networks, was launched following studies conducted by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City on the capital's current and future public transport needs. Riyadh Metro is the second metro system in Saudi Arabia after the first metro line in Mecca, which operates only during the Hajj season. Once fully operational, the Riyadh Metro is expected to be the largest in the world to be completed in a single phase, and the world's longest driverless metro line. It is tailored to meet Riyadh's social, environmental, and urban requirements, which is expected to significantly contribute to the city's urban mobility needs, the SPA said.
A political party in North Macedonia on Saturday demanded authorities ban social networks whose content incites violence and self-destructive behavior after several young people were seriously injured in connection with the popular “Superman challenge” on TikTok . Health authorities said at least 17 students, ages 10 to 17, were brought to hospitals in the capital Skopje and other towns over the past week with broken bones, contusions and bruises. The children were injured after being thrown into the air by their friends to fly like superheroes and get applause on the internet. The Liberal-Democratic Party, which was part of the left-led coalition that ruled the country from 2016 to earlier in 2024, issued a press statement Saturday strongly condemning “the irresponsible spread of dangerous content on social media, such as the latest TikTok 'challenge' known as ‘Superman,’ which has injured six children across (the country) in the past 24 hours.” “The lack of adequate control over the content of social media allows such ‘games’ to reach the most vulnerable users,” the party statement said. It demanded the “immediate introduction of measures to ban content that incites violence and self-destructive behavior, increase surveillance, and sanction platforms that enable dangerous trends.” North Macedonia’s education minister Vesna Janevska said students should focus on education, not TikTok challenges. “The ban on mobile phones in schools will not have an effect. Phones will be available to children in their homes, neighborhoods and other environments,” she said. Psychologists have warned that the desire to be “in” with the trends on social networks, combined with excessive use of mobile phones, is the main reason for the rise in risky behaviors among children. Serving their last year in prison, David Hejny and Marek Kolar have their work cut out as they train puppies Zeus and Zirkon to be assistance dogs for the visually impaired. The training is part of a project to help inmates at the Jirice prison northeast of Prague be better prepared for life outside jail. “It certainly helps you mentally and you learn to be responsible, taking care of somebody else,” said 34-year-old Hejny, serving time in the open prison for drug dealing and human trafficking. Twenty-nine of Jirice’s 800 inmates live in houses without bars, the only such establishment in the Czech Republic. The prison opened in 2017, inspired by the system in Norway, which puts a strong emphasis on rehabilitation. Carefully selected inmates also take care of other animals including a llama and two kangaroos, as well as work in the garden. “The animals fit our concept of boosting the work habits of the inmates,” Roman Farkas, a special educator at Jirice, told AFP, standing by the prison’s small football pitch. “They also serve as a therapeutic element... as an anti-stress program,” he told AFP. While the Czech recidivism rate for released convicts touches 70 percent, in Jirice’s open prison it is only 17.2 percent. ‘Quite a devil’ On a chilly, foggy morning, Hejny and Kolar have put the two-month-old Labrador Retriever pups on a leash and separate them to show what they have learned since they arrived on November 1. The dogs -- who are brothers -- stay with the inmates most of the time. While Hejny’s pup Zeus can sit and give the paw, Zirkon sniffs around, wagging his tail happily. “He’s quite a devil and it’s going to be tough,” said Kolar, cuddling the dog as he sat on a bed in the prison house. “Care of the puppies makes us happy -- we are not lonely, because we have someone here,” added the 31-year-old, who was jailed for drug dealing and theft. “In prison, you meet people you don’t want to be with, but you have to meet them. But you always want to be with a dog, right?” Jirice’s inmates have so far brought up 12 dogs. After a year, the prison sends them back to an organization which hands them over to people with visual impairments. ‘Ill buy a puppy when I’m out’ “The project is designed to socialize the puppies, to teach them to like people and get acquainted with the world around them,” said Farkas. The inmates take the dogs to Prague to let them try out the metro, escalators or shopping malls to help them get used to the hustle and bustle of the city. Farkas said the coaches did not need a guard: “We expect them never to abuse the freedom.” The prison selects dog trainers for the “Paw in the Palm” project, inspired by a similar project in the United States, after assessing their profiles, with previous experience being a plus. Zirkon is the second dog trained by Kolar, who said he always loved animals. “I will leave together with Zirkon, in October 2025,” he said.
