NoneRupert Murdoch has been dealt a setback in his bid to steer control of his empire to his son Lachlan after the media mogul dies. Murdoch, 93, had sought to change the terms of his irrevocable family trust to ensure his older son, Lachlan, would have sole control over his media companies News Corp. and Fox Corp. News Corp. owns influential publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, Investor’s Business Daily and Dow Jones. Fox Corp. is the parent company of Fox News and the Fox broadcast network. But a Nevada probate commissioner rejected the request to amend the trust that had been opposed by Murdoch’s other children named in the trust — Prudence, James and Elisabeth. In the current version of the trust, the four eldest siblings, including Lachlan, were set to jointly inherit control of the businesses. That commissioner, Edmund J. Gorman Jr., said in a ruling over the weekend that the elder Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch had acted in “bad faith” in their attempt to rewrite the trust, according to a sealed court filing obtained by the New York Times . “The effort was an attempt to stack the deck in Lachlan Murdoch’s favor after Rupert Murdoch’s passing so that his succession would be immutable,” Gorman wrote in the filing. “The play might have worked; but an evidentiary hearing, like a showdown in a game of poker, is where gamesmanship collides with the facts and at its conclusion, all the bluffs are called and the cards lie face up.” While the Nevada proceedings were behind closed doors, the outcome had enormous implications because Murdoch controls the world’s most influential conservative-leaning media empire. The trust was established following Murdoch’s divorce from his second wife, Anna Torv Murdoch Mann, the mother of Elisabeth, Lachlan and James. As part of that 1998 divorce settlement, Murdoch agreed to set up the trust that would give control of his empire to his then-four adult children after the mogul’s passing. The trust gave Anna’s children and Murdoch’s eldest daughter from his first marriage, Prudence, equal voting shares — in a bid to establish a power-sharing arrangement to oversee his corporate empire. Murdoch’s two daughters from his marriage to Wendi Deng were given economic stakes in the trust, but not voting shares. A lawyer for Rupert Murdoch did not respond immediately to a request for comment, nor did News Corp. Fox Corp. referred comment to Murdoch’s lawyer. Prudence, James and Elisabeth Murdoch said in a statement that “We welcome Commissioner Gorman’s decision and hope that we can move beyond this litigation to focus on strengthening and rebuilding relationships among all family members.” The elder Murdoch had claimed changing the trust was necessary to preserve the conservative bent of his media properties, which would maintain shareholder value for all the heirs. Lachlan is known for sharing his father’s political views, and since last year has served as sole chairman of News Corp. and executive chairman of Fox. The three other siblings are more politically moderate.NoneNone
Q3 2024 Revenue Increased 21% Year-over-Year to $78 Million Q3 2024 EBITDA Increased 242% Year-over-Year to $16 Million Q3 2024 Cash and Cash Equivalents Increased 505% Year-over-Year to $18 Million Filed NI 43-101 Compliant Mineral Resource and Reserve Estimates for Three Bolivian Producing Mines Webinar Scheduled for Wednesday, November 27th at 2:00 pm ET VANCOUVER, BC , Nov. 25, 2024 /CNW/ - Santacruz Silver Mining Ltd. SCZ SCZMF 1SZ ("Santacruz" or "the Company") reports its financial and operating results for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2024 ("Q3 2024"). The full version of the financial statements and accompanying Management's Discussion and Analysis (the "MD&A") can be viewed on the Company's website at www.santacruzsilver.com or on SEDAR+ at www.sedarplus.ca . Arturo Préstamo, Executive Chairman and CEO of Santacruz, commented, "Following the successful restructuring of the Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Glencore, the Company has significantly enhanced its financial position. This achievement, coupled with strong operational performance and solid revenue growth, led to a successful third quarter, highlighted by $78 million in revenue, $16 million in EBITDA, and $18 million in cash and cash equivalents. These results reflect our continued focus on improving the productivity of our mines and milling facilities, aiming to enhance the quality of our concentrates while optimizing costs." Mr. Prestamo continued; "In addition to our solid financial performance, we successfully maintained a stable All-In Sustaining Cost (AISC) and remain committed to disciplined cost optimization initiatives. Furthermore, significant investments were made in underground equipment in Mexico to support the growth momentum achieved over the past quarters. This strategic focus not only strengthens our operational and financial stability but also positions us to create sustained long-term value for our shareholders." Q3 2024 Highlights (all amounts in US$000's unless otherwise stated) Revenues increased 21% or $13,836 to $78,244 in Q3 2024, compared to $64,408 in Q3 2023, primarily due from: An increase of $13,453 in revenues from the Bolivia Operating Mines due to a 22% increase in the average realized price per ounce of silver equivalent ounces sold and further impacted by a 10% increase in the volume of silver equivalent ounces sold from Q3 2023. An increase of $3,345 in revenues from the Zimapan Mine due to a 7% increase in the average realized price per ounce of silver equivalent ounces sold and further impacted by a 6% increase in the volume of silver equivalent ounces sold from Q3 2023. Adjusted EBITDA increased 242% or $11,181 to $15,810 in Q3 2024, compared to $4,628 in Q3 2023. The increase was primarily due to higher silver production, improvements in milling facilities to increase silver recovery in the lead concentrate, and the rise in silver prices. Cash and Cash Equivalent increased 505% or $15,238 to $18,242 in Q3 2024, compared to $3,014 in Q3 2023. The increase was primarily due to higher revenue from increased silver production and favorable silver and zinc prices. Working Capital was $24,191 at the end of Q3 2024, improving from a deficit of $43,168 as of December 31, 2023 . Bolivia Assets Mineral Resources and Reserves: In August 2024 , Santacruz filed National Instrument 43-101 – Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects ("NI 43-101") compliant Mineral Resource and Reserve estimates for its three Bolivian producing assets (Bolivar mine, Porco mine, and Caballo Blanco Group of mines ("Caballo Blanco")) together with the Bolivar mine and the Porco mine (the "Bolivian Producing Mines"). Subsequent to the quarter-end, in October 2024 , Santacruz also filed the NI 43-101 Mineral Resource estimate for the Soracaya exploration project in Bolivia . Silver Recovery Focus: In Q3 2024, the feed for the Don Diego milling facility supplied by the Caballo Blanco Group was adjusted to improve silver recovery to the lead concentrate, where silver payabilities are highest for Santacruz. Initial results show significant gains in silver recovery to the lead concentrate, with this new processing approach being adopted as the new standard going forward for consistent recovery performance and to maximize the value of the Company's mineral resources. Selected consolidated financial and operating information for Q3 2024 are presented below. All financial information is prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS"), and all dollar amounts are expressed in thousands of US dollars, except per unit amounts, unless otherwise indicated. 2024 Third Quarter Highlights 2024-Q3 2024-Q2 Change Q3 vs Q2 2023-Q3 Change Q3 vs Q3 2024-YTD 2023-YTD Change '24 vs '23 Operational Material Processed (tonnes milled) 491,260 500,755 (2 %) 467,563 5 % 1,462,359 1,394,029 5 % Silver Equivalent Produced (ounces) (1) 4,644,013 4,819,552 (4 %) 4,695,999 (1 %) 13,941,687 14,023,809 (1 %) Silver Ounces Produced 1,703,388 1,671,359 2 % 1,728,863 (1 %) 4,956,696 5,284,845 (6 %) Zinc Tonnes Produced 23,143 25,052 (8 %) 23,095 0 % 71,042 67,839 5 % Lead Tonnes Produced 3,027 2,908 4 % 3,370 (10 %) 8,888 9,237 (4 %) Copper Tonnes Produced 270 284 (5 %) 252 7 % 809 964 (16 %) Silver Equivalent Sold (payable ounces) (2) 3,601,754 3,402,139 6 % 3,822,782 (6 %) 10,636,832 12,291,464 (13 %) Cash Cost of Production per Tonne (3) 110.50 95.11 16 % 93.73 18 % 99.66 92.48 8 % Cash Cost per Silver Equivalent Ounce Sold ($/oz) (3) 22.38 21.66 3 % 21.68 3 % 21.74 19.34 12 % All-in Sustaining Cash Cost per Silver Equivalent Ounce Sold ($/oz) (3) 27.40 24.91 10 % 25.98 5 % 25.53 23.10 11 % Average Realized Price per Ounce of Silver Equivalent Sold ($/oz) (3) (4) 29.86 30.40 (2 %) 25.31 18 % 27.75 23.04 20 % Financial Revenues 78,244 70,485 11 % 64,408 21 % 201,318 193,640 4 % Gross Profit 14,767 15,690 (6 %) 7,394 100 % 30,920 33,050 (6 %) Net Income (loss) 4,062 1,539 164 % (4,298) (195 %) 134,626 (123) 109552 % Net Earnings (Loss) Per Share – Basic and Diluted($/share) 0.01 0.00 0 % (0.01) (182 %) 0.38 (0.00) 17024 % Adjusted EBITDA (3) 15,810 16,893 6 % 4,628 242 % 32,141 26,369 22 % Cash and Cash Equivalent 18,242 7,308 150 % 3,014 505 % 18,242 3,014 505 % Working Capital (Deficiency) 24,191 14,976 62 % (27,354) (188 %) 24,191 (27,354) 188 % Notes for both tables above: (1) Silver Equivalent Produced (ounces) have been calculated using prices of $23.85/oz, $1.21/lb, $0.94/lb and $3.91/lb for silver, zinc, lead and copper respectively applied to the metal production divided by the silver price as stated here. (2) Silver Equivalent Sold (payable ounces) have been calculated using the Average Realized Price per Ounce of Silver Equivalent Sold stated in the table above, applied to the payable metal content of the concentrates sold from Bolivar, Porco, the Caballo Blanco Group, San Lucas and Zimapan. (3) The Company reports non-GAAP measures, which include Cash Cost of Production per Tonne, Cash Cost per Silver Equivalent Ounce Sold, All-in Sustaining Cash Cost per Silver Equivalent Ounce Sold, Average Realized Price per Ounce of Silver Equivalent Sold, and Adjusted EBITDA. These measures are widely used in the mining industry as a benchmark for performance but do not have a standardized meaning and may differ from methods used by other companies with similar descriptions. See ''Non-GAAP Measures'' section in the Company's Q3 2024 Management Discussion and Analysis for definitions. (4) Average Realized Price per Ounce of Silver Equivalent Sold is prior to all treatment, smelting and refining charges. Silver Equivalent Ounces Produced For Q3 2024, the Company processed 491,260 tonnes of mineralized material, producing 4,644,013 silver equivalent ounces. This total includes 1,703,388 ounces of silver and 23,143 tonnes of zinc. Full Q3 2024 production results were released in a press release dated October 24, 2024 . Q3 2024 vs Q3 2023 Compared to Q3 2023, processed material rose by 5%; however, silver equivalent production experienced a slight decrease of 1%. This decline was primarily attributed to reduced zinc production at the Bolivar and Caballo Blanco Group operations, partially offset by increased zinc production from San Lucas and Zimapan . This highlights the stability and diversification of the Company's asset base, enabling us to offset declines in production at certain operations with increased production from others. This strategic balance is essential for maintaining overall production stability and ensuring consistent performance across our operations. Q3 2024 vs Q2 2024 Compared to Q2 2024, processed material decreased by 2%, resulting in a 4% decline in silver equivalent production, primarily due to lower zinc production. However, this impact was partially offset by a 2% increase in silver production—a key objective for Santacruz. This improvement in silver production is especially positive given the recent rise in silver prices and favorable market outlook. Annamayya district Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu has said that measures have been implemented to check smuggling of rice. Raids were conducted at various rice mills in Rayachoti, Madanapalle and Rajampeta sub-divisions on December 8 (Sunday) night. These operations, which employed technology, were executed in collaboration with special teams from the police, revenue and civil supplies departments. The SP said 157 cases involving Public Distribution System (PDS) rice have been reported from the district and 336 individuals have been apprehended during raids, with the seizure of 7,971.385 quintals of rice. This confiscated rice was returned to government custody. Additionally, 16 tonnes of PDS rice that had been unlawfully stored in rice mills and godowns in Kalakada have been seized. A case has been registered, and the stock has been shifted to the Civil Supplies Department’s godown at Kalakada. The SP said that the information regarding the individuals involved in the malpractice was being collected, and appropriate legal actions would be taken. These inspections are driven by reports indicating that certain individuals were misappropriating the PDS rice for gain, he added. Stoinis, 35, has led Stars once previously in Maxwell's absence last season. He had been a candidate to be interim captain when Maxwell missed the entire 2022-23 BBL season due to his broken leg but Stars opted to give the role to Adam Zampa. Stoinis is only the second player behind Maxwell to play 100 BBL matches for Stars and signed a three-year contract extension at the end of last season, meaning he will remain at the club until the end of 2026-27. Related Melbourne Stars sign Adam Milne for pre-Christmas BBL stint Injury hits Maxwell's Shield hopes, leaves race for BBL Stoinis said he was honoured to take over the role. "I had a little bit of a taste of captaining the side in Maxi's absence last year and loved the opportunity so to be given the role full-time is a great honour," Stoinis said. "The Stars have been such a constant in my life every summer for the last 10 years and I truly believe that the group we have assembled both on and off the field can bring some long overdue success to the club." Stars General Manager Blair Crouch acknowledged Maxwell's contribution as the leader over the past five seasons. "First of all, I want to acknowledge and thank Glenn Maxwell for all his efforts in leading the side over the past five seasons and he will continue to be a wonderful resource for everyone at the club," Crouch said. "Marcus demonstrated his leadership ability last year and has been a senior member of the side for a long time. "It's wonderful to have someone who has been at the Stars almost from our inception lead our club in BBL14." Stoinis is likely to lead a depleted line-up in the early part of the season. It is unknown when Maxwell will return from his hamstring injury but he seems unlikely to play in the first match of the season at least. Scott Boland and Beau Webster are also set to miss out while with Australia's Test squad. Overseas signings Ben Duckett and Osama Mir will also miss the first three games of the season. Meanwhile, Victoria duo Marcus Harris and Xavier Crone have been signed by Melbourne Renegades to complete their list for the upcoming BBL. Brisbane Heat have signed allrounder Jack Wildermuth in the final spot on their list. But Heat will add three local replacement players in the coming week with Michael Neser set to miss the early part of the season due to a hamstring injury, while Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne are unavailable until the end of the Australia-India Test series on January 8. EDMONTON – LGBTQ+ advocate organizations say they’re working as quickly as possible to ask a court to stop the Alberta government from bringing into force a transgender law they say will cause immediate harm. The Alberta government’s law will ban doctors from providing gender-affirming treatment such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy for those under 16. Bennett Jensen, legal director at Egale Canada, said the groups, which also include Skipping Stone and five Alberta families, will call for an injunction to protect young people’s access to health care while the courts decide whether the law is constitutional. “This is harmful immediately, and there’s enough reason to doubt the constitutionality of this for the judge to preserve the status quo while they consider the broader arguments,” Jensen told The Canadian Press on Monday. In documents filed with the Court of King’s Bench on Monday, they cite five transgender youth who will be directly affected. One applicant, kept anonymous in the legal filing, is 10 years old, transgender and intersex. She was assigned male at birth but was born with a chromosome abnormality. Under the law, she will be prevented from accessing puberty blockers or gender-affirming hormones for six years, until she is 16. Another applicant described in the filing is 11 years old, was assigned male at birth, but uses the pronouns she and her. She, too, will be prevented from accessing puberty blockers or gender-affirming hormones until she is 16 years old. The filing says that if puberty blockers are delayed, irreversible physical development will occur. None of the individual applicants will be able to access gender-affirming “top surgery” until they are 18 years old. The surgical ban went into effect as soon as the bill received royal assent Thursday, but other prohibitions are expected to come into force in the coming months. The LGBTQ+ groups argue changes to health law violate gender-diverse young people’s Section 7 Charter right to security of the person, their Section 12 right to be free from cruel and unusual treatment and their Section 15 right to equality. They also say it also violates the Alberta Bill of Rights. A spokesperson for Alberta’s justice minister said in an email Monday the government believes this legislation “strikes an appropriate balance,” but that it would be inappropriate to comment further since the matter is now before the courts. A Court of King’s Bench of Alberta hearing scheduled for Dec. 16 in Calgary is expected to outline the next procedural steps. The health-care bill is one of three that will affect transgender people in the province and were passed last week by Premier Danielle Smith’s government. Among other new requirements in two other bills expected to come into force next fall, children under 16 will need parental consent if they want to change their names or pronouns at school. A similar law governs school policy in Saskatchewan, where the government invoked the notwithstanding clause last year, a measure that allows governments to override certain Charter rights for up to five years. Smith has said she doesn’t believe she’ll need to invoke the Charter’s notwithstanding clause to shield her government’s bills from legal challenges. Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. “We will put forward a robust case — that this (legislation) is reasonable in a free, democratic society, that it’s evidence-based, and that we’re protecting children and their right to be able to make adult decisions as adults,” Smith said last week. Smith has said it’s about preserving that adult choice, and that making “permanent and irreversible decisions” about one’s biological sex while still a child can limit that. The bills also state parents will also have to opt in for their children to receive lessons in school on sexuality, sexual orientation and gender identity. Transgender athletes will no longer be allowed to compete in female amateur sports, and sports organizations would be required to report eligibility complaints to the government. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Clarke Reed, a Mississippi businessman who developed the Republican Party in his home state and across the South starting in the 1960s, died Sunday at his home in Greenville, Mississippi. He was 96. Reed was chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party from 1966 to 1976, beginning at a time when Democrats still dominated in the region. During the 1976 Republican National Convention, delegates were closely divided between President Gerald Ford and former California Gov. Ronald Reagan. Reed united the Mississippi delegation behind Ford — a move that created a decadeslong feud with William D. “Billy” Mounger, another wealthy businessman who was prominent in the Mississippi Republican Party. Reed recalled in a 2016 interview with The Associated Press that delegates faced considerable pressure. Movie stars visited Mississippi’s 30 delegates to push for Reagan, and Betty Ford called on behalf of her husband. Reagan met twice with the Mississippi delegation — once with his proposed running mate, Pennsylvania Sen. Richard Schweiker — and once without, according Haley Barbour, who was executive director of the Mississippi Republican Party in 1976 and served as the state’s governor from 2004 to 2012. “Everybody was coming to see us,” Reed said. “These poor people had never seen this before, the average delegate.” Mississippi delegates were showing the stress at a meeting away from the convention floor in Kansas City, Reed said. “I looked out, and about half of them were crying,” he said. Reed initially supported Reagan, but said he moved into the Ford camp because he thought Reagan made “a hell of a mistake” by choosing a more liberal northeastern running mate in a gambit to win support of the unpledged Pennsylvania delegation. “In my opinion, Reagan was the best president of my lifetime. I didn’t know that then,” Reed said in 2016. “And had he been elected with Schweiker, he might’ve gotten a bullet one inch over and Schweiker would’ve been president.” Ford won the party nomination during the convention, then lost the general election to Jimmy Carter, the Democratic former governor of Georgia. Reed was born in Alliance, Ohio, in 1928, and his family moved to Caruthersville, Missouri, when he was about six months old. He earned a business degree from the University of Missouri in 1950. He and Barthell Joseph, a friend he had met at a high school boarding school, founded an agriculture equipment business called Reed-Joseph International, which used technology to scare birds away from farms and airports. Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi said Monday that Reed was “a mentor, supporter and advisor to me for over 56 years.” Wicker said he was 21 when Reed put him on the Republican Platform Committee in 1972. “There is no more significant figure in the development of the modern day Mississippi Republican Party than Clarke Reed,” Wicker wrote on social media. “Our state has lost a giant.”Travel Tuesday Poised to Outpace Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2024 Travel Purchases

But Bowen’s winner – O’Neil believed there was a foul in the build-up – condemned Wolves to a 10th defeat of the season and a third in a row. While under-pressure Lopetegui may have earned a stay of execution, O’Neil’s future as Wolves manager is now in serious doubt. “A lot of things went against us but ultimately we have not found a way to turn the game in our favour,” he said. “But the players showed they are still fighting for me, for the fans and the group. “Where does this leave me? In the same place I was. I’m aware of the noise. But if anyone expected this to be easy – I’m happy to be judged on results but it should be done in context. “Whenever this journey ends with Wolves I’ll be proud of it.” There was an acrimonious end to the match as captains Bowen and Mario Lemina scuffled after the final whistle, with the Wolves midfielder angrily shoving people including one of his own coaches, Shaun Derry. “I just went to shake his hand after the game,” Bowen said. “He didn’t want to shake my hand, two captains together just to say ‘well done’ after the game. “I know it’s difficult when you lose. I’ve been on the end of that situation.” O’Neil added: “Mario is calm now. He’s a passionate guy and something was said that upset him. “The instinct of the staff was to make sure he didn’t get into trouble, but he took some calming down.” We do not moderate comments, but we expect readers to adhere to certain rules in the interests of open and accountable debate.Who is the man suspected of shooting insurance CEO dead?Could Nvidia’s Dominance in AI be Coming to an End?
