TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A U.S. senator has called for mysterious drones spotted flying at night over sensitive areas in New Jersey and other parts of the Mid-Atlantic region to be “shot down, if necessary,” even as it remains unclear who owns the unmanned aircraft. “We should be doing some very urgent intelligence analysis and take them out of the skies, especially if they’re flying over airports or military bases,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said Thursday, as concerns about the drones spread across Capitol Hill. People in the New York region are also concerned that the drones may be sharing airspace with commercial airlines, he said, demanding more transparency from the Biden administration. The White House said Thursday that a review of the reported sightings shows that many of them are actually manned aircraft being flown lawfully. White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said there were no reported sightings in any restricted airspace. He said the U.S. Coast Guard has not uncovered any foreign involvement from coastal vessels. “We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or a public safety threat, or have a foreign nexus,” Kirby said, echoing statements from the Pentagon and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh has said they are not U.S. military drones. In a joint statement issued Thursday afternoon, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said they and their federal partners, in close coordination with the New Jersey State Police, “continue to deploy personnel and technology to investigate this situation and confirm whether the reported drone flights are actually drones or are instead manned aircraft or otherwise inaccurate sightings.” The agencies said they have not corroborated any of the reported sightings with electronic detection, and that reviews of available images appear to show many of the reported drones are actually manned aircraft. “There are no reported or confirmed drone sightings in any restricted air space,” according to the statement. The drones appear to avoid detection by traditional methods such as helicopter and radio, according to a state lawmaker briefed Wednesday by the Department of Homeland Security. The number of sightings has increased in recent days, though officials say many of the objects seen may have been planes rather than drones. It’s also possible that a single drone has been reported more than once. The worry stems partly from the flying objects initially being spotted near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing facility, and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. In a post on the social media platform X, Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia described the drones as up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) in diameter and sometimes traveling with their lights switched off. Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use but are subject to local and Federal Aviation Administration regulations and flight restrictions. Operators must be FAA certified. Most, but not all, of the drones spotted in New Jersey appeared to be larger than those typically used by hobbyists. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey said he was frustrated by the lack of transparency, saying it could help spread fear and misinformation. “We should know what’s going on over our skies,” he said Thursday. John Duesler, president of the Pennsylvania Drone Association, said witnesses may be confused about what they are seeing, especially in the dark, and noted it’s hard to know the size of the drones or how close they might be. “There are certainly big drones, such as agricultural drones, but typically they are not the type you see flying around in urban or suburban spaces,” Duesler said Thursday. Duesler said the drones — and those flying them — likely cannot evade detection. “They will leave a radio frequency footprint, they all leave a signature," he said. "We will find out what kind of drones they were, who was flying them and where they were flying them.” Fantasia, a Morris County Republican, was among several lawmakers who met with state police and Homeland Security officials to discuss the sightings from the New York City area across New Jersey and westward into parts of Pennsylvania, including over Philadelphia. It is unknown at this time whether the sightings are related. Duesler said the public wants to know what's going on. “I hope (the government agencies) will come out with more information about this to ease our fears. But this could just be the acts of rogue drone operators, it’s not an ‘invasion’ as some reports have called it,” Duesler said. “I am concerned about this it but not alarmed by it.” Associated Press reporters Mark Scolforo in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and reporter Darlene Superville and videojournalists Serkan Gurbuz and Nathan Ellgren in Washington, D.C., contributed to this report.HoSkar Night Event Series 2025: Let's explore the Real Estate market together! They’re tired of saying “Bring Them Home.” It’s been 14 months since Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas kidnapped their family members — 14 months of agony, loneliness, anger and tears, with few glimmers of hope. On that fateful day, Hamas killed more than 1,200 people in Israel, beginning a war that continues today. Desperate to get the hostages freed, family members have been traveling around the world to plead their case. This week, they’re in South Florida, speaking with politicians, the media and community leaders, hoping for possible connections to President-elect Donald Trump’s administration and what they hope is his power to get the estimated 100 men, women and children out of captivity. The South Florida visit, which includes two events open to the public, is presented by We Are All Hostages, a volunteer organization that has helped hostage families travel to Washington, D.C., New York and Europe over the past few months. On Wednesday evening, the families will share their stories during a free forum at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie. The following night will feature an in-depth remembrance at the Nova Exhibition, an ongoing exhibit in North Miami that offers a timeline of events and remains rescued from the music festival grounds where 364 were killed on Oct. 7. The family members’ visit comes at a time when news reports say a deal to free the captives may be close to happening . Yehuda Cohen, father of hostage Nimrod Cohen, said he has heard reports like this before. “I don’t want to put my hopes too high because I don’t want to be disappointed again,” said Cohen, 55, an engineer at an American technology company in Rehovot, Israel. Nimrod Cohen, 20, was a soldier whose tank malfunctioned near the border with Gaza. His father plans to tell South Florida political leaders and community members that a ceasefire and hostage deal are the best way to get the Israelis out. In the meantime, he hopes his son somehow sees that he is fighting to get him freed. “I want him to know all the time that he’s not alone,” Cohen said. “I hope there is the smallest chance that my words get to him.” In addition to Cohen, the following family members are traveling in South Florida this week: “I could not miss this trip because maybe there is one word I will say that will liberate them,” Schnaider said. The family, natives of Peru, immigrated to Israel in 1971. His sister was Shiri Bibas’ mother, Margit, who was killed with her husband, Yossi, on Oct. 7 at Kibbutz Nir Oz. “I can’t erase from my mind how my sister died,” said Schnaider, 68, who lives in Kingston, New York. “I’m fighting for my family but also for every single hostage.” The families will share personal stories as relatives of hostages during a presentation, “Voices of Resilience,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center, 5850 S. Pine Island Road, Davie. Free; register at dpjcc.org/events . They will also speak at an in-depth remembrance of the Oct. 7 massacre at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, as part of the Nova Music Festival Exhibition, 12100 NE 16th Ave., North Miami. Cost is $18; register at novafestival.seetickets.com .sports name

Racing was abandoned in the Track Champions League at Lee Valley VeloPark in London after British Olympic champion Katy Marchant and another rider crashed over the barriers into the crowd. Marchant and German rider Alessa-Catriona Propster left the track at speed along with their bikes and collided with spectators. British Cycling said the two riders and four supporters were treated by event medics and Marchant was taken to hospital. In a statement, British Cycling added: "WBD Sports, British Cycling, Lee Valley VeloPark, and the Union Cycliste Internationale unanimously decided to suspend all further racing for the evening and want to extend their best wishes for a speedy recovery to both riders and all affected spectators. "We are working closely with all parties to review the incident before taking appropriate action." At the same venue at the 2022 Commonwealth Games a high-speed collision involving several riders resulted in England's Matt Walls being catapulted over the barriers into the crowd with his bike. The London venue costing £250,000, around the track this year. Thirty-one-year-old Marchant, who won Team Sprint gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was competing in the second heat of the women's keirin.

The remodeled golf course will provide an enjoyable and thought-provoking experience for the Members and their guests on a continuing basis. (“ECOR,” “electroCore,” or the “Company”) (Nasdaq: ECOR), a commercial-stage bioelectronic medicine and wellness company, announced today it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire NeuroMetrix, Inc. (“NeuroMetrix” or “NURO”) (Nasdaq: NURO), including its Quell platform, positioning itself as a diversified, commercial-scale player in non-invasive health and wellness treatments. NURO is a commercial stage healthcare company that develops and commercializes neurotechnology devices to address unmet needs in the chronic pain and diabetes markets. It has two product categories: Quell®: a wearable, app and cloud-enabled neuromodulation platform that is indicated for the treatment of fibromyalgia symptoms (Quell Fibromyalgia) and lower-extremity chronic pain (Quell 2.0); and DPNCheck®: a point-of-care screening test for peripheral neuropathy, which product line is expected to be divested by NURO prior to consummation of the acquisition The acquisition of NeuroMetrix will accelerate electroCore’s efforts to become a significant player in the bioelectronic health and wellness sector by expanding its product portfolio of non-invasive therapies for medical conditions and general wellness product offerings, while expanding its technological capabilities through the Quell mobile application and health cloud platform. The transaction does not include the DPNCheck technology and business, which is expected to be divested by NeuroMetrix prior to closing of the transaction. “We are confident we can leverage our established distribution channels, especially the VA Hospital System, to accelerate adoption of the Quell Fibromyalgia solution,” stated Dan Goldberger, CEO of electroCore, inc. “NeuroMetrix has spent many years developing the Quell commercial asset, and electroCore has developed a strong commercial organization for our own prescription and direct-to-consumer nerve stimulation solutions. This acquisition will immediately increase our addressable market, and diversify our portfolio of non-pharmaceutical, non-invasive nerve stimulation offerings. We are incredibly excited to add the Quell product lines to our portfolio and we expect this acquisition to be accretive to our top and bottom lines. Following the transaction, we expect ECOR to be the leading publicly traded neuromodulation platform focused on wellness and chronic pain.” U.S. consumers spend nearly $20 billion annually out-of-pocket for chronic pain treatments. Approximately 6% of US adults suffer from Fibromyalgia, with few treatment options. Quell Fibromyalgia is a prescription, non-invasive, nerve stimulation device that is FDA-authorized, covered by 27 issued U.S. patents, and is enabled by a proprietary, custom designed microchip that provides flexible, precise, high-power nerve stimulation in a form factor the size of a credit card. NeuroMetrix Historical Financial Results For the three months ended September 30, 2024, NURO reported: Total revenue of $600,000 Quell revenue of $184,000, a 50% increase over the year ago period in 2023 Operating expenses of $2.1 million Net loss of $1.5 million The transaction has been unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies and is expected to close around the end of the first quarter of 2025. Consummation of the transaction is subject to approval by the shareholders of NURO, and the filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the “SEC”) of NURO’s Form 10-K with respect to the fiscal year ended December 31, 2024, in addition to certain customary closing conditions. Additional information on the transaction can be found in a Current Report on Form 8-K filed by electroCore, Inc. with the SEC. Transaction and Integration ECOR will purchase all of the outstanding shares of NURO for the equivalent of NURO’s balance of net cash at the closing of the transaction, after deduction of certain management compensation payments and other severance costs, transaction expenses and other accrued liabilities. NURO stockholders will also receive one non-tradeable contingent value right (the “CVR”) per share of NURO common stock owned. Each CVR will represent the right to receive (i) certain future net proceeds from any divestiture of NURO’s DPNCheck platform that is consummated prior to the closing of the transaction with electroCore and (ii) certain royalties, up to an aggregate maximum of $500,000, on net sales of prescription Quell® products over the first two years following the closing of the transaction. NURO stockholders will be paid cash at closing. The merger consideration is expected to be paid with cash on hand of the combined company after the consummation of the acquisition. The transaction is not expected to be materially dilutive to ECOR cash or equity at close. “We plan to focus immediately on growing the prescription Quell Fibromyalgia business through our existing channels, driving both scale and efficiency,” added Mr. Goldberger. “We believe revenue growth from the Quell product line can be accelerated quickly in our established channels and longer term, we are excited about possible label extensions, as well as leveraging the Quell mobile app platform. Sales and Marketing Expense of the combined Company will continue to scale with revenue (primarily commissions) but we expect there to be relatively little long-term impact on other elements of electroCore operating expenses in 2025 and beyond.” Webcast and Conference Call Information electroCore’s management team will host a webcast today, December 17, 2024, beginning at 4:30 PM EST. Investors interested in joining the webcast may register by clicking through the following link: Investor Webcast - NURO Transaction An archived webcast of the event will be available on the “Investors” section of the company’s website at: www.electrocore.com . By DARLENE SUPERVILLE WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he is “so proud” that a women’s health research initiative he launched last year at his wife’s urging has already invested nearly $1 billion because a healthy female population improves U.S. prosperity. “That’s a fact,” he said in closing remarks at the first White House Conference on Women’s Health Research. “We haven’t gotten that through to the other team yet,” Biden said, referencing President-elect Donald Trump and his incoming administration. Trump’s three conservative nominees to the Supreme Court from his first term as president voted to overturn a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion . Democrats campaigned on reproductive rights and women’s health issues in this year’s elections. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for Trump’s transition team, said the president-elect will keep his promise to improve health in the U.S. “President Trump campaigned on making America healthy again for ALL Americans including men, women, and children, and he will deliver on that promise,” Leavitt said in an email. Women make up half of the U.S. population, about 168 million people, but medical research into their unique health circumstances has largely been underfunded and understudied, officials have said. Jill Biden has said she brought the idea for the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research to the president after Maria Shriver, herself a women’s health advocate and member of the influential Kennedy political family, brought it to her. The first lady told the researchers, advocates, and business and philanthropic leaders attending the conference that she will keep pressing the issue after she leaves her role. “My work doesn’t stop in January when Joe and I leave this house,” she said. “I will keep building alliances, like the ones that brought us here today, and I will keep pushing for funding for innovative research.” The first lady said the U.S. economy loses about $1.8 billion in working time every year because of how menopause affects women. And she is interested in learning more about extreme morning sickness during pregnancy. “I heard this a couple weeks ago and I was particularly interested because my own granddaughter was going through the same thing, ’cause we’re going to be great-grandparents,” Jill Biden said. Then he told the audience, “In case you wonder, when she speaks, I listen.”

AP Business SummaryBrief at 12:10 p.m. ESTWASHINGTON (AP) — For years, Pat Verhaeghe didn’t think highly of Donald Trump as a leader. Then Verhaeghe began seeing more of Trump’s campaign speeches online and his appearances at sporting events. There was even the former president’s pairing with Bryson DeChambeau as part of the pro golfer’s YouTube channel series to shoot an under-50 round of golf while engaging in chitchat with his partner. “I regret saying this, but a while ago I thought he was an idiot and that he wouldn’t be a good president,” said the 18-year-old first-time voter. “I think he’s a great guy now.” Verhaeghe isn't alone among his friends in suburban Detroit or young men across America. Although much of the electorate shifted right to varying degrees in 2024, young men were one of the groups that swung sharply toward Trump. More than half of men under 30 supported Trump, according to AP VoteCast , a survey of more than 120,000 voters, while Democrat Joe Biden had won a similar share of this group four years earlier. White men under 30 were solidly in Trump’s camp this year — about 6 in 10 voted for Trump — while young Latino men were split between the two candidates. Most Black men under 30 supported Democrat Kamala Harris, but about one-third were behind Trump. Young Latino men’s views of the Democratic Party were much more negative than in 2020, while young Black men’s views of the party didn’t really move. About 6 in 10 Latino men under 30 had a somewhat or very favorable view of the Democrats in 2020, which fell to about 4 in 10 this year. On the other hand, about two-thirds of young Black men had a favorable view of the Democrats this year, which was almost identical to how they saw the party four years ago. “Young Hispanic men, and really young men in general, they want to feel valued," said Rafael Struve, deputy communications director for Bienvenido, a conservative group that focused on reaching young Hispanic voters for Republicans this year. “They're looking for someone who fights for them, who sees their potential and not just their struggles.” Struve cited the attempted assassination of Trump during a July rally in Pennsylvania as one of the catalyzing moments for Trump’s image among many young men. Trump, Struve said, was also able to reach young men more effectively by focusing on nontraditional platforms like podcasts and digital media outlets. “Getting to hear from Trump directly, I think, really made all the difference," Struve said of the former president's appearances on digital media platforms and media catering to Latino communities, like town halls and business roundtables Trump attended in Las Vegas and Miami. READ: Not only did Trump spend three hours on Joe Rogan's chart-topping podcast, but he took up DeChambeau's “Break 50” challenge for the golfer's more than 1.6 million YouTube subscribers. Trump already had an edge among young white men four years ago, although he widened the gap this year. About half of white men under 30 supported Trump in 2020, and slightly less than half supported Biden. Trump's gains among young Latino and Black men were bigger. His support among both groups increased by about 20 percentage points, according to AP VoteCast — and their feelings toward Trump got warmer, too. It wasn’t just Trump. The share of young men who identified as Republicans in 2024 rose as well, mostly aligning with support for Trump across all three groups. “What is most alarming to me is that the election is clear that America has shifted right by a lot,” said William He, founder of Dream For America, a liberal group that works to turn out young voters and supported Harris’ presidential bid. With his bombastic demeanor and a policy agenda centered on a more macho understanding of culture , Trump framed much of his campaign as a pitch to men who felt scorned by the country’s economy, culture and political system. Young women also slightly swung toward the former president, though not to the degree of their male counterparts. It's unclear how many men simply did not vote this year. But there's no doubt the last four years brought changes in youth culture and how political campaigns set out to reach younger voters. Democrat Kamala Harris' campaign rolled out policy agendas tailored to Black and Latino men, and the campaign enlisted a range of leaders in Black and Hispanic communities to make the case for the vice president. Her campaign began with a flurry of enthusiasm from many young voters, epitomized in memes and the campaign's embrace of pop culture trends like the pop star Charli XCX's “brat” aesthetic . Democrats hoped to channel that energy into their youth voter mobilization efforts. “I think most young voters just didn’t hear the message,” said Santiago Mayer, executive director of Voters of Tomorrow, a liberal group that engages younger voters. Mayer said the Harris campaign’s pitch to the country was “largely convoluted” and centered on economic messaging that he said wasn’t easily conveyed to younger voters who were not already coming to political media. “And I think that the policies themselves were also very narrow and targeted when what we really needed was a simple, bold economic vision,” said Mayer. Trump also embraced pop culture by appearing at UFC fights, football games and appearing alongside comedians, music stars and social media influencers. His strategists believed that the former president’s ability to grab attention and make his remarks go viral did more for the campaign than paid advertisements or traditional media appearances. Trump's campaign also heavily cultivated networks of online conservative platforms and personalities supportive of him while also engaging a broader universe of podcasts, streaming sites, digital media channels and meme pages open to hearing him. “The right has been wildly successful in infiltrating youth political culture online and on campus in the last couple of years, thus radicalizing young people towards extremism,” said He, who cited conservative activist groups like Turning Point USA as having an outsize impact in online discourse. “And Democrats have been running campaigns in a very old fashioned way. The battleground these days is cultural and increasingly on the internet.” Republicans may lose their broad support if they don't deliver on improving Americans' lives, Struve cautioned. Young men, especially, may drift from the party in a post-Trump era if the party loses the president-elect's authenticity and bravado. Bienvenido, for one group, will double down in the coming years to solidify and accelerate the voting pattern shifts seen this year, Struve said. “We don’t want this to be a one and done thing,” he said. ___ Associated Press writer Joey Cappelletti in Lansing, Michigan, and AP polling editor Amelia Thomson-DeVeaux contributed to this report.
