It is not as if China is worse at producing commodities than the USA. However, Mr Trump should realize that China is already ahead in such key fields of the future, such as green energy and electric vehicles, and an exchange would be fruitful. He must also avoid driving China to seek advanced technology from Europe, as it has bfgun to do. Pakistan must tread carefully. While it is hardly an economic powerhouse, its economic ties to China are greater than the USA. In a document titled “20 years after the 2004 Tsunami: What progress has been made?” the UN agency highlights these efforts. For instance, a Global Tsunami Warning System (GTWS) has been set up spanning the Pacific, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, Caribbean, and North-East Atlantic. This system integrates rapid detection technologies, seismic and sea-level monitoring and real-time data sharing to ensure alerts reach coastal communities as swiftly as possible. Through the GTWS, UNESCO aims to provide tsunami confirmation within 10 minutes or less of origin for the most a- risk coastlines by 2031. UNESCO has also invested in ‘cutting-edge’ research, including seabed mapping, deep-ocean and buoy technologies, as well as hazard assessments that enhance our understanding of tsunami risks. UNESCO’s work has emphasised extensive community preparedness through its Tsunami Ready initiative, which already involves 32 countries and aims to certify 100 per cent of at-risk communities by 2030. This program includes public education, hazard mapping, evacuation planning, and annual simulation drills to strengthen awareness and readiness in vulnerable coastal areas. Nearly 70 crore people live in areas vulnerable to ocean hazards — low lying coastal areas and islands — around the world. This number will be 100 crore by 2050. According to UNESCO, there is a near 100 per cent chance of a tsunami hitting the Mediterranean in the next 30 years. The UN agency said that 69 per cent of total tsunami occur in the Pacific Ocean, and nearly 90 per cent of fatalities are caused by local or regional tsunamis that hit within a few hours. Locally damaging tsunamis strike some part of the Pacific every one to two years on average. The 20th anniversary of the 2004 tsunami is an opportunity to call on States to continue efforts in supporting and funding for tsunami preparedness and education. SANTA CLARA — When Isaac Guerendo trots onto the field with the first team Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, he will equal the same number of starts he had in five years of college football. Hard to believe, but Guerendo started exactly one time, and it came in his final college game at Louisville. Against USC in the Holiday Bowl, Guerendo carried 23 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns and added five receptions in a 42-28 loss. In 40 other games at Wisconsin and Louisville, Guerendo played in a shared backfield –something he’s done with the 49ers this season behind Jordan Mason and Christian McCaffrey . With McCaffrey on injured reserve with a PCL strain and Mason to follow soon with a high ankle sprain, Guerendo should get his biggest workload since his last college game. “I’m excited, but really it’s whatever it takes to win,” Guerendo said Wednesday as the 49ers (5-7) began preparations to host the Bears (4-8). “Whatever the plan looks like is what we’ll bring.” Guerendo will be backed up by Patrick Taylor Jr., who was on the roster earlier this season when McCaffrey was dealing with bilateral Achilles tendinitis, then re-signed to the practice squad. The B-21 is the answer to a new and increasingly complex operating environment, consisting of interconnecting sensors, sophisticated anti-aircraft missiles, and fifth-generation interceptors. The B-21 also has mysterious engines about which little is known. However, there are clues that point to what the engine could be. We will explore some of the known details about the B-21's engine(s). Background on the B-21 bomber The B-21 Raider, named after the Doolittle Raiders which gained notoriety for their participation in the first retaliatory strike against Japan’s capital city, Tokyo, on April 18, 1942. The B-21 was initially going to be named the B-3, however, then-Air Force (USAF) Secretary Deborah Lee James renamed it the B-21. This was done to signify that it is America’s first 21st century bomber. The type entered service in 1997. The B-21 program has its roots in the early termination of the B-2 fleet. The USAF planned to build 132 B-2s. However, Congress terminated funding for this program after 21 were built by 1997. The USAF made this move in light of the receding Russian threat and the rising price of the aircraft. An aspect of the price or the projected future price was the fact that Northrop was contracted to build a high-capacity factory in order to rapidly build the fleet of B-2s. ...it is clear that the USAF is committed to this stealth global strike platform, that can penetrate the A2/AD zones of states that are hostile to the United States. On October 27, 2015, the Department of Defense announced its intention to award the contract to build the new “Long Range Strike-Bomber" to Northrop Grumman, which beat the Boeing-Lockheed Martin team. Northrop Grumman’s winning bid put the production cost at $511 million per plane. The USAF has plans to buy a minimum of 100 B-21s. Another interesting and tantalizing detail was stated by Lieutenant General Chris Bogdan , head of the F-35 program. He stated: “There are some things we learned from the F135 engine that will greatly benefit the Long Range Strike airplane. At the same time, I think Pratt and Whitney ought to be looking to drive the cost of the F135 engine down and I would be expecting them to.” This could be a clue as to the B-21 using the power module from the F-35 or a derivative of it. If this were the case it would point to the B-21 having very adequate speed, particularly if it has two engines, both having the core of the F-35 powerplant. The B-21 Raider represents a stunning leap in stealth air power but the question remains as to the true cost of such technology. Regardless, while Pratt & Whittney are keeping the details about the B-21 engine tightly under wraps, if this bomber is using two F135 engines, it could have a combined thrust of approximately 80,000 lbs. The B-21 program today Some of the biggest news of 2024 for the B-21, is the fact that Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, announced that the aircraft entered into Low-Rate Initial Production at the beginning of this year. While the details of this contract were not disclosed some reports stated that it could cover up to 21 units. Additionally, at the time of the aircraft's first flight in November 2023, Northrop Grumman stated that six units were in various stages of production. B-21 Raider: The future of America's bomber fleet The US is the only country in the world to have and maintain a sizable fleet of dedicated long range, deep strike, heavy bombing aircraft. The B-21 is set to replace the B-1B Lancer and the B-2 Spirit in terms of stealth bombing capability, and thus forging the future of US strategic bombing.
