A judge on Monday granted a request by prosecutors to dismiss the election subversion case against Donald Trump because of a Justice Department policy of not prosecuting a sitting president. Judge Tanya Chutkan agreed to the request by Special Counsel Jack Smith to dismiss the case against the president-elect "without prejudice," meaning it could potentially be revived after Trump leaves the White House four years from now. "Dismissal without prejudice is appropriate here," Chutkan said, adding in the ruling that "the immunity afforded to a sitting President is temporary, expiring when they leave office." Trump, 78, was accused of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election he lost to Joe Biden and removing large quantities of top secret documents after leaving the White House, but the cases never came to trial. Smith also moved on Monday to drop his appeal of the dismissal of the documents case filed against the former president in Florida. That case was tossed out earlier this year by a Trump-appointed judge on the grounds that Smith was unlawfully appointed. The special counsel paused the election interference case and the documents case this month after Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election. Smith cited the long-standing Justice Department policy of not indicting or prosecuting a sitting president in his motions to have the cases dismissed. "The Government's position on the merits of the defendant's prosecution has not changed," Smith said in the filing with Chutkan. "But the circumstances have." "It has long been the position of the Department of Justice that the United States Constitution forbids the federal indictment and subsequent criminal prosecution of a sitting President," Smith said. "As a result this prosecution must be dismissed before the defendant is inaugurated." In a separate filing, Smith said he was withdrawing his appeal of the dismissal of the classified documents case against Trump but pursuing the case against his two co-defendants, Trump valet Walt Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira. Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said the cases were "empty and lawless, and should never have been brought." "Over $100 Million Dollars of Taxpayer Dollars has been wasted in the Democrat Party's fight against their Political Opponent, ME," he said. "Nothing like this has ever happened in our Country before." Trump was accused of conspiracy to defraud the United States and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding -- the session of Congress called to certify Biden's win, which was violently attacked on January 6, 2021 by a mob of the then-president's supporters. Trump was also accused of seeking to disenfranchise US voters with his false claims that he won the 2020 election. The former and incoming president also faces two state cases -- in New York and Georgia. He was convicted in New York in May of 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election to stop her from revealing an alleged 2006 sexual encounter. However, Judge Juan Merchan has postponed sentencing while he considers a request from Trump's lawyers that the conviction be thrown out in light of the Supreme Court ruling in July that an ex-president has broad immunity from prosecution. In Georgia, Trump faces racketeering charges over his efforts to subvert the 2020 election results in the southern state, but that case will likely be frozen while he is in office. cl/smsOur community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. The Love Island beauty, who rekindled her romance with Billy Webb earlier this year, announced the exciting update on social media. The couple, who began dating back in 2020, have had a real rollercoaster of a relationship, which includes welcoming their first child, one year old Lucia, together. Last January, Billy was taken into custody following a drug raid and for his involvement in a major cocaine supply plot, a situation that left pregnant Shaughna utterly heartbroken at the time, reports the Mirror . In an emotional message to her followers, Shaughna expressed her joy and disbelief at the turn of events, sharing: ""If you had told me this time last year, that me and Billy would be taking Lucia to see Santa next Christmas , I probably wouldn't have let myself believe you. The best couple of days, this Christmas is going to be so special." Viewers were treated to an adorable glimpse of the couple with their daughter enjoying some festive magic, as mum Shaughna beams with happiness. Not long ago, she had made a plea to the public asking them not to judge her for choosing to stand by Billy and now heads towards a very merry Christmas with her little family reunited. Asked by fans on social media if she would be appearing on the next series of Love Island All Stars, telling fans: "If I was single, I deffo would... Alas I am not so I will be sitting on my sofa watching my friends getting up to tomfoolery. I'm very happy with my little life." One fan asked if it was difficult to find another partner when she was a single parent, the reality star replied: “Not when it's her dad.” Shaughna, who never shies away from keeping it real, previously shared her experience of taking daughter Lucia to visit prison. On her podcast, Oh, Baby with Shaughna and Holly, she got candid, saying: "I want to just put it out there that you can judge me all you want, but please don't let me know, because I feel like unless you've been in this position you can't really have an opinion on it." She confessed her change in perspective, saying, "Because before I was in this position, before I had a baby, if you had asked me would I ever, ever take my child into a prison, the answer would be absolutely not. Anyone that does that is crazy. "And then, lo and behold, I'm now in this position. And I think the thing is, we're always going to be co-parents." She continued: "And I don't want Lucia to think differently of her father. I would never, ever stop him from seeing her, ever." The Love Island 2020 star shared with OK! the tough decision to take Lucia for prison visits to see her dad weekly. "This is not something I expected to be doing. I never would have chosen this life for my daughter," she confessed. "It's not a decision I made lightly and I won't lie, the first time I took her was really scary and daunting. I don't think it hit me what was happening until I got into the building. I was so nervous but it was never a question for me. I always knew I was going to take Lucia to visit her dad."mnl777 download free ios

The Detroit Lions will play without two high draft picks in rookie cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. while possibly getting back veteran Emmanuel Moseley against the host Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Arnold was downgraded Saturday from questionable to out because of a groin injury. He was limited at practice on Thursday and participated in a full practice on Friday. The Lions drafted Arnold with the 24th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Alabama. Arnold, 21, has started all 10 games and has 38 tackles and six passes defended. Rakestraw (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve after not practicing all week. He already had been ruled out for Sunday's game. Detroit picked Rakestraw in the second round (61st overall) out of Missouri. He has played in eight games and has six tackles. Rakestraw, 22, has played on 46 defensive snaps (8 percent) and 95 special teams snaps (42 percent). Moseley had full practice sessions all week and was activated from injured reserve on Saturday but was listed as questionable for Sunday. The 28-year-old is in his second season with Detroit and appeared in one game last season before going on IR in October 2023. He was placed on IR on Aug. 27 with a designation to return. Moseley played from 2018-22 for the San Francisco 49ers and had 162 tackles, four interceptions -- one returned for a touchdown -- and 33 passes defensed in 46 games (33 starts). Detroit elevated linebacker David Long on Saturday for game day. Long, 28, signed with the practice squad on Tuesday after the Miami Dolphins released him on Nov. 13. He had started six of eight games for the Dolphins this season and had 38 tackles. In other Lions news, the NFL fined wide receiver Jameson Williams $19,697 for unsportsmanlike conduct for making an obscene gesture during a touchdown celebration in last Sunday's 52-6 home win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the NFL Network reported Saturday. Williams, 23, scored on a 65-yard pass from Jared Goff with 12:55 remaining in the third quarter. --Field Level MediaRep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has ambitions for higher office — and it's getting some prominent Trump fans on social media excited that they can take down Sen. Lindsey Graham in a primary. According to NOTUS, multiple sources close to Mace say she "has been discussing two positions: South Carolina governor or a Senate race." At the moment, according to the report, Mace is "particularly looking at the governor’s seat, which Henry McMaster has held since 2017 when he replaced Nikki Haley after she was appointed to be Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations ." Mace notably joined the contingent that ousted Kevin McCarthy from the speakership last year and has recently adopted a strident culture war drumbeat to restrict transgender women in Capitol restrooms — despite calling herself " pro-transgender rights " just a year earlier. The notion she could take down Graham caused an enthusiastic stir among MAGA social media accounts Thursday. Graham is a vocal pro-Trump loyalist, but his previous association with the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), and his support of neoconservative interventionist military policies have been at odds with some of Trump's more isolationist beliefs. Some far-right influencers see him as unreliable. ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE: Senate Dems consider whether Biden should ‘clear the slate’ and pardon Trump " JUST IN: Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is considering a run AGAINST RINO Lindsey Graham for Senate in 2026," wrote far-right influencer Nick Sortor. "LET’S GO! Your days in the Senate are numbered, Lady Graham. Should Based Mace do it?" The phrase "Lady Graham" appears to be a derogatory reference to unsubstantiated rumors about Graham. "Yessss start the unofficial campaign now that’s what it takes to beat these entrenched incumbents," wrote Florida-based software CEO Robert Salvador. "BREAKING: Nancy Mace is reportedly considering running for Senate in South Carolina, issuing a potential primary challenge to Lindsey Graham. Let’s go!!!" wrote pro-Trump bodybuilder Ian Jaeger. "Whoa!!! Go Nancy Mace. Primary that sneaky, double-talking RINO Lindsey Graham," wrote Juanita Broaddrick, a former nursing home administrator who made a sexual assault allegation against former President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.
