New disability ministers will ‘champion’ inclusion and accessibility – ministerThe Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and its El Paso counterpart suffered a cyberattack that disrupted computer systems and applications, potentially exposing the data of 1.4 million patients. The organization is a public, academic health institution that is part of the Texas Tech University System, which educates and trains healthcare professionals, conducts medical research, and provides patient care services. The organization announced that, in September 2024, it suffered a cyberattack involving sensitive data theft. "In September 2024, the HSCs identified issues that resulted in a temporary disruption to some computer systems and applications," reads the notice . "Immediately after identifying these issues, the HSCs took steps to ensure the security of the network and began an investigation. The investigation confirmed that a cybersecurity event caused the technology issues, resulting in access to or removal of certain files and folders from the HSCs' network between September 17 and September 29, 2024." In a filing with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center reports that the breach exposed the combined data of 1,465,000 people. The information that may have been exposed to hackers varies by individual and may include the following: Those who are confirmed to have been impacted will be notified by the organization and will be offered free credit monitoring services. Impacted individuals are advised to remain vigilant against potential phishing and social engineering attacks, monitor their credit reports and health insurance billing statements, and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Interlock claimed the attack The attack at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center was claimed by Interlock ransomware on October 27, nearly a month after the healthcare and education institute reportedly blocked the hackers' access to its systems. The threat actors have leaked 2.1 million files totaling 2.6 TB of data allegedly stolen from HSCs, and the entire package is available for download from their extortion portal on the dark web. Interlock is a recently launched ransomware operation that stands out for using an encryptor targeting FreeBSD servers, along with a Windows variant. BleepingComputer has learned that Interlock demands ransom amounts ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions, depending on the size of the organization.dragon ball z super game

Engaging audiences with video marketing Engaging audiences with video marketing involves crafting compelling visual narratives that captivate viewers’ attention and foster meaningful connections. One key aspect is leveraging the power of storytelling to evoke emotions and resonate with the audience on a deeper level. By crafting narratives that are relatable, entertaining, or informative, brands can establish a strong emotional connection with viewers, leading to increased engagement and brand loyalty. Another important factor in engaging audiences is personalization and targeting. Tailoring video content to specific audience segments based on demographics, interests, or browsing behavior ensures that the message resonates with viewers on a personal level, making them more likely to engage with the content and take desired actions. To streamline audience engagement, consider using management software for personalized video marketing strategies. Interactivity also plays a crucial role in engaging audiences with video marketing. By incorporating elements such as polls, quizzes, or clickable annotations, brands can encourage active participation from viewers, keeping them engaged and immersed in the content. Moreover, leveraging various platforms and formats, such as YouTube , social media, or live streaming , allows brands to reach audiences where they are most active and consuming content. By adapting video content to suit the preferences and behaviors of different platforms, brands can maximize engagement and effectively connect with their target audience . Converting audiences with video marketing Converting audiences with video marketing is a strategic process aimed at persuading viewers to take desired actions, such as making a purchase, signing up for a service, or subscribing to a channel. This phase of the marketing funnel involves moving viewers from mere engagement to becoming customers or loyal followers. To achieve successful conversions, video marketers employ various tactics and techniques. One effective strategy is the use of compelling calls-to-action (CTAs) strategically placed within or at the end of the video content (e.g. online video advertisement ). These CTAs prompt viewers to take specific actions, such as clicking on a link, filling out a form, or making a purchase. Additionally, demonstrating the benefits and features of a product or service through video can persuade viewers to make a buying decision. Moreover, providing valuable information or solutions to viewers’ problems can establish trust and credibility, making them more likely to convert. Incorporating testimonials, reviews, and social proof in video content can also influence audience perception and increase conversion rates. For businesses in dropshipping , showcasing real-life product demonstrations or customer success stories through videos can enhance trust and drive conversions. Overall, converting audiences with video marketing requires a combination of persuasive storytelling, effective communication of value propositions, and strategic placement of CTAs to guide viewers towards desired actions. By leveraging these techniques, businesses can maximize the impact of their video marketing efforts and achieve tangible results in terms of audience conversions and business growth. Case studies and examples Case studies and examples serve as invaluable sources of insight and inspiration in understanding the efficacy of video marketing strategies. One notable case study is the Dove “Real Beauty” campaign, which utilized emotionally resonant video content to challenge beauty standards and foster a positive brand image. The campaign’s videos, such as “Dove Real Beauty Sketches,” garnered widespread acclaim and millions of views, showcasing the power of storytelling in engaging audiences. Similarly, GoPro’s user-generated content strategy exemplifies how video marketing can harness user enthusiasm to drive brand visibility and loyalty. By empowering customers to share their adventures through GoPro cameras, the company generated a vast library of captivating content that not only showcased its products’ capabilities but also cultivated a vibrant community around the brand. These examples highlight the diverse approaches and strategies that businesses can employ to leverage video marketing effectively, whether through emotional storytelling , user-generated content, or other innovative tactics. By studying such case studies, marketers can gain valuable insights into crafting compelling video campaigns that resonate with audiences and drive meaningful results. Help! I’ve Been Invited to My First Hollywood New Year’s Eve Party! , I’m new to LA, and this will be my first New Year’s Eve in the City of Angels. I moved here earlier this year after a pilot I wrote was picked up for a full series. It’s been life-changing—financially, professionally, and socially. Before this, I lived in a small town outside Philadelphia, where “Craft Services” would be mistaken for an Etsy booth. Now, I’ve been invited to a New Year’s party hosted by people I know through work, and I have no idea how to act. I’ve always found New Year’s stressful—it’s all about that one big moment at midnight, and we just hang out until then. But my biggest question is: Am I supposed to hug everyone at midnight? I’m awkward at the best of times—once I told the mailman I loved him when he delivered my Settlers of Catan expansion pack, and I cringed for weeks. How many canapés is too many? Do I bring a gift? How do I start a conversation with people I don’t know? And do I have to come up with a clever quip when introducing myself, or is that just something that happens in movies? Yours, LA Intentional Uh Oh. My Wife Wants Us to Be a Hollywood Power Couple Dear Remy, As the year draws to a close, I’m counting my achievements—both big and small. A series I play the supporting lead on was recommissioned, I passed a level in my Japanese classes, and I managed to keep most of my plants alive (except one ficus, who was struggling from the start). But my wife sees this year as a disaster—all because we didn’t make it onto any Power Couples of 2024 lists. She’s an actor too, and for her, those lists are the ultimate validation—where success in both personal and professional life comes together. I thought she’d let it go, but it turns out this is her biggest dream. She’s booked us a stylist in January to perfect our red carpet “his and hers” looks, and last week I overheard her telling a PR rep, “I want to make the list, but will do.” At this point, I feel less like a husband and more like a prop in her Hollywood strategy. To make matters worse, when I tried to combine our names into a portmanteau, it turned out to be the name of a popular sex toy. We don’t even have that in our favor. Yours, Powered Down Enough Is Enough. I Need a Rest Dear Remy, I’m a studio executive, and I feel like I’m at my breaking point. This year has been relentless, with long hours on set, grueling deadlines, and the constant pressure to keep up appearances in LA. Now, with New Year’s approaching, I’m thinking about making no resolutions at all—for the first time in my life. It’s really calling to me to start doing less. Less exercise, less dieting, less perfectionism at home. I want to fire my personal trainer and swap endless burpees for Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. I dream of spending mornings on my chaise longue, eating Cheetos. But I’m worried. Can I really turn up on set and admit I didn’t wake up at 5 a.m. to hike and journal? Will people think I’m lazy? Is this industry even compatible with a slower, easier pace of life? Yours, More Tired, Less Wired *** . . A government investigation has kicked off in New Jersey after recent reports of what news outlets are calling “mysterious” drone sightings in multiple states. Some experts say there are cases in which individuals believe they are seeing drones flying in the sky, but they may be something else. “Historically, we’ve experienced many cases of mistaken identity where reported drones are, in fact, manned aircraft or facilities,” a Department of Homeland Security official said on a Dec. 14 White House press call discussing the government’s response to ongoing drone sightings. In November, “multiple suspicious activity reports” were submitted in New Jersey “regarding unidentified and unknown subjects operating multiple unmanned aircraft, otherwise known as UAS,” the official said. “Our military knows where they took off from. If it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went and for some reason they don’t want to comment,” President-elect Donald Trump said at a Dec. 16 news conference streamed by ABC News. “Something strange is going on, for some reason they don’t want to tell the people, and they should.” Drone sightings have also been reported in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, California and Ohio, according to CNN. On Dec. 13, New York’s Stewart International Airport temporarily closed its runways due to drone activity, according to the news outlet. Airspace over Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio was also restricted on Dec. 15 for several hours because of drones, WHIO reported. “It is not illegal to fly drones in U.S. airspace,” a Federal Aviation Administration official said on the White House press call. “Generally speaking, it is legal to fly a drone in most locations, both during the day and at night, as long as you remain below 400 feet and you keep those drones in sight at all times, avoiding other aircraft and not causing hazard to any people or property, and avoiding restricted airspace.” Still, the reports of drone activity have been heightened after they have been spotted over “residential neighborhoods, restricted sites and critical infrastructure,” according to CNN. There are ways to identify and distinguish whether or not what you are seeing in the sky is a drone. How to identify a drone The lighting on a drone can be a dead giveaway, experts say. “A series of probably like four lights , they are going to be red, they’re going to be green. If it’s a nighttime flight, they’re going to have auto collision lights that are blinking,” Ashlee Cooper, drone pro for the state of Delaware’s FAA Safety Team and the CEO of Droneversity, told WTXF. There are other signs to look for as well, according to NJ.com. Objects in the air may be larger than they appear. In some cases, an object in the air may appear smaller than it is. This may cause confusion when noticing an airplane flying. Watch how the aircraft moves. Multi-rotor drones have propellers that allow them to maneuver more aggressively and make “tight controlled turns.” Planes do not have the same ability to hover, move from side to side, or takeoff and land vertically. “Planes have a non-zero turning radius,” Pramod Abichandani, an associate professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, said. “If its nose is pointing in a certain direction, that is generally the direction it will move in.” Drones also make a distinct sound , according to pilotinstitute.com Many consumer-grade drones are quadcopters, according to the website. These type of drones have a distinct buzzing sound. They can be very loud and heard from 100 to 200 feet away. There are also websites such as FlightAware and Flightradar24.com that track airplanes and their routes, helping distinguish if what you are seeing flying above is an airplane. “I am actually hoping that this will be an opportunity to spark the conversation for individuals to get used to some larger sized drones. Drones that are delivering goods, delivering first aid, delivering organs and response. This is something that is happening in states and municipalities as we speak. It’s not science fiction,” Cooper told WXTF. Large drones seen in New Jersey skies at night, reports say. FBI asks public for help Booms and bright flashes dazzle Midwest, videos show. It looks like the Joe Biden administration’s Department of Energy (DOE) is in a hurry: It just finalized a $1.25 billion loan to EVgo, the U.S. operator of electric vehicle (EV) charge points, for the construction of 7,500 new fast-charging stalls nationwide. The announcement comes just as the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump has signaled it wants to cancel much of the existing spending on EV initiatives. EVgo says the buildout will bring its total owned and operated network to at least 10,000 fast-charging stalls by 2029. The new chargers will be deployed across the U.S., including in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. “This public-private partnership will help us continue to scale our operations to serve the influx of vehicle options that will be available to American consumers in the coming years,” says EVgo CEO Badar Khan in a statement . The EVgo rollout features an innovative technology called dynamic power sharing, which allows EVs to charge up as quickly as possible, the DOE says. The chargers will also allow users to initiate charging without a credit card or phone. Last week, the DOE and a private consortium announced it will establish a universal protocol to allow all EVs to just plug in and charge at all public stations in the U.S. in 2025. A still sparse charging infrastructure is often cited as one of the main barriers for drivers to switch to full EV adoption. When the Biden administration took office in 2021, it set a target of building 500,000 chargers by 2030, allocating $7.5 billion to the efforts. According to the DOE, there are currently more than 204,000 publicly available charging ports in the U.S., or more than double the number of chargers in place when Biden took office. Over the past year alone, 38,000 new public chargers were added. At the current rate, nearly 1,000 chargers are added every week thanks to a combination of direct federal funding, federal tax incentives, state and local funding, and private investment. EVgo is also partnering with General Motors to build charging stalls across 32 states. The two recently announced their 2,000th co-branded public fast-charging stall. While the incoming Trump administration has signaled it will cancel existing spending, such as the $7,500 tax credit for new EV purchases, it’s yet unclear how much of already enacted infrastructure projects could be reversed. According to E2 , a nonpartisan group, close to 85% of the investments and 68% of the jobs created by the Biden administration’s clean energy initiatives have benefited Republican states that supported Trump. The AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll is back every week throughout the season! McLean's Our Global Crisis critically examines humanity's consumption patterns and their detrimental effects on societal stability and ecological health. McLean offers the extinction of the passenger pigeon as a cautionary tale, leaning into how overhunting and habitat destruction, fueled by 19th-century technological advancements, led to its decline. McLean warns against contemporary threats like deforestation and overpopulation, drawing parallels to historical societies, such as Rapa Nui, that faced collapse due to resource mismanagement. He speaks on the COVID-19 pandemic as a catalyst for anxiety-driven consumption, leading to social unrest, particularly in the United States. McLean critiques anthropocentrism and calls for a collective mindset prioritizing societal welfare over individualism, talking about the necessity for effective political leadership and international collaboration through organizations like the United Nations to foster sustainable practices and address the urgent challenges posed by climate change and overconsumption. Our Global Crisis:“We'll Never Run Out!” by Brian D. McLean is an exhaustively researched and sweeping examination of humanity's precarious relationship with consumption and survival instincts. His incisive writing is authoritative, intelligent, and comprehensive in how he challenges readers to look deeply into the consequences of unchecked economic growth, urging a reevaluation of our priorities. As someone with a deep interest in anthropology, I most appreciated McLean's discussion of our primitive tendencies serving as a reminder that, despite our intelligence, we often fall prey to short-sighted decision-making, jeopardizing our future. The work is totally up to date and current, given its post-pandemic look at how it was managed, making it relatable to readers at any stage of life, of which McLean adeptly states we are the guardians. This book is essential for those seeking to understand the interconnectedness of our choices and the urgent need for collective responsibility in the face of global crises. As far as I'm concerned, this should be required reading for those studying environmental and social sciences." You can learn more about Brian D. The country of some 3.7 million has been rocked by demonstrations since the ruling Georgian Dream party announced last week it would halt EU accession talks. Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has refused to back down and threatened Tuesday to punish political opponents, accusing them of being behind violence at mass protests. Protesters gathered outside parliament for a sixth straight night but the crowd appeared a little smaller than on recent nights, an AFP journalist saw. Draped in EU and Georgian flags, protesters booed riot police officers and threw fireworks. Police responded by directing hoses at the protesters, with some dancing in the jets and others sheltering under umbrellas. The police ordered demonstrators to leave through loud hailers and used water cannon to push the crowd away from the parliament. Then they deployed tear gas against the crowd in a nearby street, causing protesters to cough, with some using saline solution to wash out their eyes. Police roughly detained some demonstrators, Georgian independent television showed. Tensions were already high after October parliamentary elections that saw Georgian Dream return to power amid accusations that it rigged the vote. But Kobakhidze's decision that Georgia would not hold EU membership talks until 2028 triggered uproar, although he insisted the country is still heading towards membership. The mostly young protesters accuse Georgian Dream of acting on Russian orders and fear the ex-Soviet country will end up back under Russian influence. Demonstrators projected a message Tuesday that read "thank you for not being tired," onto the parliament building, an AFP reporter saw. During the latest wave of protests, 293 people have been detained, the interior ministry said Tuesday evening, while 143 police have been injured. The health ministry said that on Monday evening 23 protesters were injured. "We want freedom and we do not want to find ourselves in Russia," 21-year-old protester Nika Maghradze told AFP. Demonstrators accuse the government of betraying Georgia's bid for EU membership, which is enshrined in its constitution and supported by around 80 percent of the population. Nugo Chigvinadze, 41, who works in logistics, told AFP at Tuesday's protest that he did not believe the prime minister's claim that the country is still aiming for EU membership. "Whatever our government is saying is a lie. No one believed it. No one," he said. "They are not intending to enter the European Union." Pro-EU President Salome Zurabishvili -- at loggerheads with the government -- has backed the protest and demanded a re-run of the disputed parliamentary vote. But, intensifying the crisis, Tbilisi's top court on Tuesday rejected a lawsuit filed by Zurabishvili and opposition parties to overturn the election result. That announcement came shortly after Kobakhidze -- who has ruled out talks with the opposition -- vowed to punish his opponents. "Opposition politicians who have orchestrated the violence in recent days while hiding in their offices will not escape responsibility," he told a press conference. International criticism of Georgia's handling of the protests has grown, with several Western countries saying Tbilisi had used excessive force. Kobakhidze threatened to punish civil servants who join the protests, after several ambassadors and a deputy foreign minister resigned over the crackdown on demonstrators and the decision to suspend EU talks. "We are closely monitoring everyone's actions, and they will not go without a response," he said. Using Kremlin-style language, Kobakhidze alleged the protest movement was "funded from abroad". He also accused non-government groups -- attacked in a repressive pre-election campaign by authorities -- of being behind the protests, vowing that they will "not evade responsibility". At Tuesday's demonstration, Tsotne, 28, who works in IT, defied the threats of reprisals, saying: "We know we have to fight. It's a peaceful protest, of course but I guess as an individual, I'm ready to defend my country here." Georgia this year adopted Russian-style legislation designed to restrict the activity of NGOs as well measures that the EU says curb LGBTQ rights. The laws prompted the United States to slap sanctions on Georgian officials. But Kobakhidze said his government hoped that the "US attitudes towards us will change after January 20" -- when Donald Trump, who has criticized federal support for gender transition, takes office. Kobakhidze's threats to the opposition came as more Western leaders criticized Tbilisi's police response to the protests. NATO chief Mark Rutte on Tuesday slammed as "deeply concerning" the situation in Georgia, condemning "unequivocally" the reports of violence.

The S&P 500 rose 0.4%, coming off its first losing week in the last four . The Nasdaq composite climbed 1.2% to a record, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was a laggard and fell 110 points, or 0.3%. Broadcom leaped 11.2% to help lead the S&P 500 for a second straight day after delivering a profit report last week that beat analysts’ expectations. The technology company is riding a wave of enthusiasm about its artificial-intelligence offerings in particular. The market’s main event, though, will arrive on Wednesday when the Federal Reserve will announce its last move on interest rates for the year. The widespread expectation is that it will cut its main rate for a third straight time, as it tries to boost the slowing job market after getting inflation nearly all the way down to its target of 2%. The question is how much more it will cut rates next year, and Fed officials will release projections for where they see the federal funds rate ending 2025, along with other economic indicators, once their meeting concludes. Fed Chair Jerome Powell will also answer questions in a press conference following the meeting. For now, the general expectation among traders is that the Fed may cut a couple more times in 2025, according to data from CME Group. But such expectations have been shrinking following reports suggesting inflation may be tougher to get all the way down to 2% from here. Besides last month’s slight acceleration in inflation, another worry is that President-elect Donald Trump’s preferences for tariffs and other policies could lead to higher inflation down the line. Goldman Sachs economist David Mericle has dropped his earlier forecast of a cut by the Fed in January, for example. Beyond the possibility of tariffs, he said Fed officials may also want to slow their cuts because of uncertainty about exactly how low rates need to go so that they no longer press the brakes on the economy. Expectations for a series of cuts to rates by the Fed have been one of the main reasons the S&P 500 has set an all-time high 57 times so far this year and is heading for one of its best years of the millennium . The economy has held up better than many feared, continuing to grow even after the Fed hiked the federal funds rate to a two-decade high in hopes of grinding down on inflation, which topped 9% two summers ago. On Wall Street, MicroStrategy jumped as much as 7% during the day as it continues to benefit from the surging price for bitcoin , which set another all-time high. But its stock ended the day down by les than 0.1% after bitcoin’s price pulled back below $106,000 after setting a record above $107,700, according to CoinDesk. The software company has been building its hoard of the cryptocurrency, and its stock price has more than sextupled this year. It will also soon join the Nasdaq 100 index. Bitcoin’s price has catapulted from roughly $44,000 at the start of the year, riding a recent wave of enthusiasm that Trump will create a system that’s more favorable to digital currencies . Honeywell rose 3.7% after saying it’s still considering a spin-off or sale of its aerospace business, as part of a review of its overall business. It said it plans to give an update with the release of its fourth-quarter results. They helped offset a drop for Nvidia, whose chips are powering much of the world’s move into AI. Its stock fell 1.7%. Because it’s grown so massive, with a total value topping $3 trillion, it was the single heaviest weight on the S&P 500. All told, the S&P 500 rose 22.99 points to 6,074.08. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 110.58 to 43,717.48, and the Nasdaq composite rose 247.17 to 20,173.89. In the bond market, Treasury yields held relatively steady. The yield on the 10-year Treasury edged down to 4.39% from 4.40% late Friday. The two-year yield, which more closely tracks expectations for the Fed, eased to 4.24% from 4.25%. In stock markets abroad, indexes fell modestly across much of Europe and Asia. They sank 0.9% in Hong Kong and 0.2% in Shanghai after China reported lackluster economic indicators for November despite attempts to strengthen the world’s second-largest economy. South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.2% as law enforcement authorities pushed to summon impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol for questioning over his short-lived martial law decree, and the Constitutional Court met to discuss whether to remove him from office or reinstate him.
