'He can't resist chaos': Critics reject 'wishful thinking' about Trump's second termCI Financial (NYSE:CIXXF) Shares Gap Up – Time to Buy?Andy Murray is to take over as coach for his old rival Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open. Here, the PA news agency looks at the seven Grand Slam finals contested by the pair. Murray turned in a poor performance in Melbourne, failing at the third attempt to win a set in a Grand Slam final as Djokovic broke serve seven times and hit six aces to claim a comprehensive win 6-4 6-2 6-3. “You had an unbelievable tournament and deserved to win,” the Scot said in reference to his opponent. “I look forward to playing against you in the future.” It took five sets for Murray to claim his first Grand Slam title, becoming the first British man to achieve the feat since Fred Perry in 1936. The final clocked in at four hours and 54 minutes as Murray prevailed 7-6 (10) 7-5 2-6 3-6 6-2 to end a wait of 287 tournaments in British male tennis for a victory. “I want to congratulate Andy on his first grand slam, he thoroughly deserves it,” said Djokovic. “I really tried my best. I gave it my all. It was a tremendous match.” Congrats . Incredible athlete. Perfect gentleman. — judy murray (@JudyMurray) Murray was dogged by injury in Melbourne with a heavily strapped right foot and a tight hamstring as Djokovic fought back from a set down to land a third consecutive Australian Open title, 6-7 (2) 7-6 (3) 6-3 6-2. “His record here is incredible,” said Murray. ”Very few people have managed to do what he has done, a deserved champion.” Murray ended a 77-year wait for a British men’s victory at Wimbledon by defeating his old foe 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in SW19, serving emphatically with nine aces and only two double faults to throw off the weight of history. The Scot had been 4-1 down in the second set as the match threatened to slip away from him and with it the chance to cement his place in tennis folklore, but having wasted three championship points he finally sealed the deal when Djokovic drove into the net with his final shot. Djokovic triumphed 7-6 (5) 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-0 and after the 24 matches and five grand slam finals the pair had played against each other across nine years, the Serb had established a 16-8 overall lead and 3-2 in slam finals. “Success is being happy,” said Murray. “It’s not about winning every single tournament you play, because that isn’t possible.” What a journey. Really grateful for everything. I'll keep working hard. Love is the key! — Novak Djokovic (@DjokerNole) The Serb landed a fourth win over Murray in Australian Open finals and his 11th in 12 matches to land his 11th major title, whilst the Scot made it five consecutive final losses in Melbourne, a new record in the Open era. “I feel like I’ve been here before,” said Murray after a 6-1 7-5 7-6 (3) loss. “Congratulations Novak, six Australian Opens, an incredible feat, and incredible consistency the last year.” "This is something that’s so rare in tennis... it’s gonna take a long time for it to happen again" Andy to Novak ❤️ — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) This was Murray’s first final at Roland Garros but it brought a familiar conclusion as Djokovic triumphed against him for the fifth time in seven Grand Slam finals. The 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 success was a first win for the Serb in Paris and saw him hold all four slams simultaneously. Murray went on to win Wimbledon the following month and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year but, addressing Djokovic in Paris, said: “This is his day today. What he’s achieved the last 12 months is phenomenal, winning all four of the grand slams in one year is an amazing achievement.”

Joe Burrow threw three touchdown passes to Tee Higgins, including a game-winning scoring strike with 1:07 left in overtime, to give the host Cincinnati Bengals an electrifying 30-24 win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday. Cade York could have given Cincinnati (8-8) the win with 2:43 to go in the extra session, but his 33-yard field-goal attempt hit the left upright. The Bengals' defense buckled down, though, forcing Denver to go three-and-out to get Burrow, Higgins and the rest of the offense back out on the field. Cincinnati proceeded to go 63 yards in five plays, with Higgins' 3-yard TD catch giving the Bengals their fourth straight victory. Higgins finished with 11 catches for 131 yards. Marvin Mims Jr. forced overtime by hauling in a 25-yard score on fourth-and-1 to draw the Broncos (9-7) even at 24 with eight seconds left in regulation. Burrow had put Cincinnati in front by plunging into the end zone from 1 yard out just 1:21 earlier. Burrow completed 39 of 49 passes for 412 yards and the three touchdowns while Ja'Marr Chase had nine catches for 102 yards and set a single-season franchise record for receptions. He now has 117. Tight end Mike Gesicki played a key role in the Cincinnati passing game, grabbing a season-high 10 catches for 86 yards. The Bengals kept their playoff hopes alive, but they must beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18 while also getting losses from the Broncos, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts. Mims was rookie quarterback Bo Nix's favorite target, recording 103 yards and a pair of scores on eight receptions. Nix went 24-for-31 passing for 219 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Denver is still in search of a wild-card spot and can lock one down with a win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 5. Wil Lutz booted a 30-yard field goal to open the scoring and give the Broncos a 3-0 lead. The first Burrow-to-Higgins TD -- a 2-yard connection -- put the hosts up 7-3 with 1:49 to go in the first half, and that advantage held until the break. A 22-yard field goal from York made it 10-3 with 9:07 remaining in the third quarter. Nix found Courtland Sutton for a 6-yard touchdown to tie things at 10. The teams then traded fourth-quarter TDs, with Higgins snatching a 12-yard scoring pass and Mims ending up on the receiving end of a 51-yard strike. --Field Level Media Get any of our free daily email newsletters — news headlines, opinion, e-edition, obituaries and more.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is unhappy with rumours being floated in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the choice of the state’s new chief minister, and politics relating to caste equations potentially influencing the selection process. For the RSS, the ideological mentor of the BJP, it’s an open-and-shut case – Devendra Fadnavis, who they say led the Mahayuti alliance to a landslide victory in the recent state elections, is the natural choice for the post. However, in the last few days, a section of the BJP has floated the names of other contenders. Also read: Maharashtra oath on Dec 5, Shiv Sena insists on home portfolio The names of Vinod Tawde, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Chandrakant Patil, and more recently Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol have been doing the rounds on social media. While Tawde, Patil and Mohol are Marathas, Bawankule is from the OBC category, and their possible candidacy would draw caste considerations into the narrative. The Maratha and OBC communities have played a significant role in the run-up to the assembly elections, and supporters of this quartet believe this should be taken into account when the BJP chooses the new CM. This has upset the Sangh Parivar, which campaigned hard for Fadnavis, a Brahmin, during the elections. With a systematic micro-planning strategy, Fadnavis and the RSS machinery, armed with 3,000 swayamsevaks, toured every district in the state, to ensure the phenomenal victory for the Mahayuti coalition. Also read: ‘New Maharashtra CM from BJP, Mahayuti allies to get 2 deputy CM posts’: Ajit Pawar A senior RSS leader, affiliated to the Rashtriya Muslim Manch, an RSS frontal organisation, said the RSS has communicated to the BJP leadership that given Fadnavis’s pivotal role in the Mahayuti’s win, he should be the natural choice for the CM’s post. Not selecting him could also adversely affect the party in the upcoming municipal elections, particularly in Mumbai. The RSS is disappointed that the four leaders, who have been groomed by the Sangh, are not toeing the RSS line. The Sangh points out that both Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, who have been offered the posts of dual deputy chief ministers, are Marathas. There is no reason for a section of BJP politicians to insist on a Maratha CM, argues the RSS. Also read: Meet Atul Limaye: RSS strategist who engineered Mahayuti's landslide victory A senior RSS activist said that when this issue was raised with the party high command, Mohol was forced to clarify that his candidacy for CM’s post was no more than an idle rumour. In a social media post, Mohol said, “Our party is disciplined, and the party’s decision is final. Such significant decisions are made unanimously by the parliamentary board, not through social media discussions.”Musk causes uproar for backing Germany's far-right party ahead of key electionshe sexual assault allegations against rapper could affect the musical plans of his wife , who is scheduled to perform at the game between the , as well as her 2025 tour.
