After seven years of serving the city’s geek community, Vancouver’s 8th Dimension Comics is closing its doors. The Main Street comic book store announced on social media that its last day will be at the end of the year along with a . “Well people of the 8th and associates, the time has truly come,” said owner Nick Paraschos online. “The Portal of the 8th Dimension is closing at the end of this year. Paraschos added that the store will hold a closing-out sale, as well as offer a few surprises. 8th Dimension Comics opened in 2017, taking over the 2418 Main Street storefront that was formerly the home of . The shop offered a variety of collectibles, figurines, and the latest comics and graphic novels. Fans on Facebook thanked Paraschos and 8th Dimension Comics for all of the memories over the years. “I’m very sorry, Nick. This hurts,” said Mike Myhre. “You put up a hell of a fight, and the store will be missed immensely. Indeed, it already is. “The world conspired against you on this one. Pre-pandemic it was all looking up, and you’ve had to deal with a completely unfair series of setbacks. I can never thank you enough for picking up the mantle of local shop after RX shut.” Paraschos thanked the community for their support. “It’s been an honour and a privilege to serve you all over my years at RX and then helming the 8th. Once again, truly, thank you all.”

BOONE, N.C. (AP) — South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains has been hired as head coach at Appalachian State and will receive a five-year contract, athletic director Doug Gillin announced Saturday. The 44-year-old Loggains replaces Shawn Clark, who was fired Monday after the Mountaineers finished 5-6 for their first losing season since 2013. Loggains was South Carolina's offensive coordinator for two seasons and an assistant at Arkansas, his alma mater, for two seasons before that. He spent 16 years in the NFL as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Tennessee, Cleveland, Chicago, Miami and the New York Jets. “He brings experience as a leader and play-caller at the highest levels of professional and college football," Gillin said. "He is a great recruiter and believes strongly in building relationships. He is aligned with our core values of academic integrity, competitive excellence, social responsibility and world-class experience. This is a great day for App State.” Loggains' offense at South Carolina featured LaNorris Sellers, one of the nation's top dual-threat quarterbacks, and running back Raheim “Rocket” Sanders. Sellers and Sanders led the Southeastern Conference's third-ranked rushing offense. Loggains spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons as Arkansas' tight ends coach, and he worked with Sam Darnold, Jay Cutler, Mitchell Trubisky, Brian Hoyer and Vince Young during his time in the NFL.
