Former President Bill Clinton was discharged from the hospital Tuesday, after he was admitted with a fever Monday afternoon, a spokesman said. "President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu. He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received," Clinton aide Angel Ureña wrote on X. "He sends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all." Clinton, 78, was initially admitted with a fever for testing and observation, Ureña said. It's unclear how high the former president's fever was, or what other symptoms he exhibited. Clinton was previously hospitalized in Southern California in 2021 for an infection that reached his blood, but was released after six days. He underwent a possibly lifesaving quadruple coronary bypass surgery in September 2004. In February 2010 , he was hospitalized to open a clogged heart artery after suffering chest pains. Two stents were placed inside the artery as part of a medical procedure that is common for people with severe heart disease.TORONTO, Dec. 13, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Edesa Biotech, Inc. EDSA , a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing host-directed therapeutics for immuno-inflammatory diseases, today reported financial results for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2024 and provided an update on its business. During the fiscal year, the company pivoted the in-house development of its anti-TLR4 drug candidate, EB05 (paridiprubart), to a U.S. government-funded study investigating novel threat-agnostic host-directed therapeutics in patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Given this opportunity, Edesa is also amending a development and drug manufacturing project for the same asset that is supported by the Government of Canada. The company said that the goal is to maximize synergies between the two government-funded projects. For its anti-CXCL10 program, Edesa intends to manufacture EB06 and submit related data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as part of an investigational new drug (IND) application. The manufacturing of clinical-grade drug batches and initiation of the patient enrollment is subject to funding. Edesa anticipates topline results for this Phase 2 study could be available within as few as 12 to 18 months following regulatory clearance in the U.S. The study is currently approved in Canada. "This year, Edesa maintained its momentum despite the headwinds in the drug development sector, and we once again validated our TLR4 technology with a third competitive government award," said Par Nijhawan, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Edesa Biotech. "I have maintained my strategic support financially and I believe that our team can continue to advance and expand our development pipeline and partnerships." Edesa's Chief Financial Officer Stephen Lemieux reported that financial results for the fiscal year benefited from prudent use of working capital and effective financial management, including a more than 20% decrease in operating expenses. "Following the end of the fiscal year, we strengthened our balance sheet, and with two governments now funding the advancement of our anti-TLR4 technology, we have improved our position for future financing, potential strategic arrangements as well as other opportunities to advance our pipeline." Financial Results for the Fiscal Year Ended September 30, 2024 Total operating expenses decreased by $2.2 million to $7.0 million for the year ended September 30, 2024 compared to $9.2 million for the prior year: Research and development expenses decreased by $1.9 million to $2.9 million for the year ended September 30, 2024 compared to $4.8 million for the prior year primarily due to decreased external research expenses related to the company's completed dermatitis study and a reduction in labor costs and noncash share-based compensation, which were partially offset by an increase in expenses related to manufacturing of paridiprubart. General and administrative expenses decreased by $0.3 million to $4.1 million for year ended September 30, 2024 compared to $4.4 million for the prior year primarily due to a decrease in noncash share-based compensation, which was partially offset by an increase salaries and related costs. Total other income was unchanged at $0.8 million for the years ended September 30, 2024 and September 30, 2023 as a $0.1 million increase in reimbursement funding from the Canadian government's Strategic Innovation Fund was offset by a $0.1 million decrease in interest income. For the year ended September 30, 2024, Edesa reported a net loss of $6.2 million, or $1.93 per common share, compared to a net loss of $8.4 million, or $2.93 per common share, for the year ended September 30, 2023. Working Capital At September 30, 2024, Edesa had cash and cash equivalents of $1.0 million and negative working capital of $0.2 million. Subsequent to the fiscal year end, the company received $1.5 million in gross proceeds under a securities purchase agreement with an entity affiliated with Edesa's Chief Executive Officer and Founder, and $0.6 million in net proceeds, after deducting sales agent commissions, from common shares sold under an at-the-market offering program. Calendar Edesa management plans to participate in one-on-one meetings during JP Morgan week, which begins on January 13, 2025, in San Francisco, California. Attendees interested in meeting with management can request meetings through the conference organizers or by contacting Edesa directly at investors@edesabiotech.com . About Edesa Biotech, Inc. The first major event has touched down in Black Ops 6, and it's giving you the opportunity to unlock the silliest weapon yet. Black Ops 6 has been an incredibly impressive title so far, and as it launches into Season 1 with its brand new Battle Pass , new version of Warzone and a new Zombies map, Citadelle Des Morts , on the game’s list of promises to come, Call of Duty players are soaking it all up nicely. There’s plenty more to come, though, and among the new features is the first Black Ops 6 event – The Hit List. The in-game event is a big deal, as it’s the first instance in which players can claim some free rewards, including the hilarious Power Drill Melee weapon, that’ll allow you to do some major DIY on the battlefield (the DIY, of course, being murder). There’s plenty for players to claim, so it’s worth knowing what’s to claim and exactly how to claim it all. Here’s what you need to know about Black Ops 6's The Hit List event. The Hit List Black Ops 6 event – how to earn rewards The Hit List Black Ops 6 event is a compelling one, as it’ll demand some teamwork if players want to claim every available reward. You’ll unlock items, divided into categories of personal and community rewards, based on how many kills you’ll get, with different values assigned to different modes. Between November 21 and December 5 , you’ll earn one elimination point for every kill in Multiplayer, one elimination point for every five kills in Zombies, and you’ll earn a respectable five elimination points for every kill you get in Warzone. It’s a fair-seeming system, but it does pretty drastically favour Zombies players, so if you’re looking to get these rewards as soon as possible, farming Zombies makes sense as the best strategy. The Hit List Black Ops 6 event – every reward There are a lot of items to collect over the course of the Hit List Black Ops 6 event, though there is a twist – there is a list of personal rewards that you’ll earn with your elimination points alone, and community rewards that will be unlocked by all players when everyone has pitched in their own eliminations. here’s everything you can earn while the event is live: Big Plans Loading Screen –100 Eliminations Elimination Game Calling Card – 250 Eliminations Evidence Emblem – 500 Eliminations Targeted Weapon Charm – 750 Eliminations Power Drill Melee Weapon – 1,000 Eliminations Buffer Weight Stock ASG-89 Attachment – 8 Billion Eliminations Shadow Perk (Black Ops 6) – 16 Billion Eliminations Hand Cannon Scorestreak – 24 Billion Eliminations Veteran Perk (Warzone) – 32 Billion Eliminations Sirin 9mm Secondary Weapon – 50 Billion It seems like a lot of kills to accrue for the rewards for the community, but they’re perhaps the best for everyone, as it has the potential to actually change Call of Duty’s gameplay. Get to work, soldiers.

Travis Kelce knows Jason Kelce 's game all too well. Which is why the Kansas City Chiefs tight end wasn't fazed by his brother's recent reference to his girlfriend Taylor Swift . During the duo's Dec. 24 episode of their New Heights podcast, Jason informed listeners about a discount code featuring the number 13, a figure beloved by Taylor, who was born on Dec. 13. "I wonder what the 13 is for?" Jason cheekily asked. "It's probably because it's my favorite number, right?" Without skipping a beat, Travis replied, "Yeah. Or maybe it was just Friday the 13th a few weeks ago." Indeed, it was nearly two weeks ago that Dec. 13, Taylor's 35th birthday , landed on a Friday. But Jason also added another possible theory, reminding Travis, "I was number 13 in hockey." This hilarious podcast exchange between the brothers comes shortly after Travis praised the Grammy winner for completing her history-making Eras Tour . “Shoutout to Tay,” he said on the Dec. 11 episode of New Heights . “The unbelievable Eras Tour has finally come to an end.” "Over 10 million people in the stands over the course of it, like cumulatively," Travis added. "It’s pretty crazy.” I wonder what the 13 is for - Jason 😄 pic.twitter.com/vrNM2f83ok And Taylor has often returned support for Travis. Just a few days ago, she cheered him on as the Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans Dec. 21. As the NFL player's season continues, best believe the "Cruel Summer" singer will make more game day appearances . "I'm going to see him do what he loves, we're showing up for each other, other people are there and we don't care," she told Time in Dec. 2023. "The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you're seeing someone. And we're just proud of each other." And no, she's not focused on the attention her attendance might bring. "There's a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don't know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don't know if I'm being shown 17 times or once," she explained. "I'm just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I'm being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads." For more details on Taylor and Travis' winning romance, keep reading... July 2023: So, Make the Friendship Bracelets Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's love story began in July 2023, when the singer's Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it . However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals. "I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his New Heights podcast. "So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her." Summer 2023: This Is Him Trying After publicly recounting his fumble—a move Taylor would later describe as "metal as hell" —Travis decided to shoot his shot and invite the Grammy winner to watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium. CHICAGO — Josh Giddey had 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and the Chicago Bulls beat the struggling Charlotte Hornets 109-95 on Friday night. Ayo Dosunmu scored 19 points as Chicago bounced back from two straight losses. Coby White added 18 points. Giddey and Dosunmu each hit three 3-pointers for the Bulls, who led almost the entire way, sending the Hornets to their 13th loss in 16 games. Brandon Miller led Charlotte with 21 points, and Mark Williams had 15. Miles Bridges added 14 points and nine rebounds after missing 10 games because of a bruised right knee. Former Bull Taj Gibson got a standing ovation when he checked into the game with about a minute remaining. Takeaway Hornets: Though they're getting healthier after being hit hard by injuries, the Hornets can't get star guard LaMelo Ball back soon enough. The NBA's third-leading scorer missed his seventh straight game because of a strained left calf. Bulls: The Bulls were aggressive, took control early and withstood several minor pushes on the way to a rather easy win. After Miller hit a 13-footer for Charlotte, Dosunmu drove for a layup. Bridges got called for a technical after missing on a drive. LaVine hit the free throw to make it 59-42 with 18 seconds left but got called for a travel, leading to a floater for Miller at the halftime buzzer that cut the lead to 15. Key stat The Bulls blocked a season-high 11 shots, with Jalen Smith matching a career best by rejecting five. He also had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Sisanda Maguranyanga scored for the 14th time in the current campaign early in the second period to cancel out Taylor Legg’s first-half finish, but further Clarets goals by Jack Camina and Lewis Hayes earned the visitors a comprehensive victory. And coach Tom Bailey was frustrated by the performance: “It was nowhere near good enough,” said Bailey. “Since the Barking Abbey game where there was a massive high, that seems to have been a bit of a turning point, and there has been a bit of sloppiness around what we’ve done in training with the jobs we do and things like that, and it’s culminated in this performance.” “The boys have got to learn that if you want to be a professional player, or be part of a top team, you can’t switch things on and off. "Everything you do has to be locked in, and in the last few weeks there have just been a few things that have been off here and there. That all adds up and this was the consequence.” Chelmsford arrived at Garon Park having won their previous three matches, and they controlled the early exchanges. Blues were without Ronnie Durussel at the back, with Joseph Buck his replacement, while Yobor Sorae and Muhammed Limbada dropped to the bench with Innocent Duru and Kye Munro named in the starting eleven. In the 13th minute, City defender Archie Clark nodded a Lester Ward free-kick wide, before Chelmsford forward Legg forced Joshua Barrett into the first of a string of fine saves after a quarter-of-an-hour as the Blues gloveman turned a fierce strike around the left-hand post. Legg then hooked over from the right-wing throw before the Clarets took the lead on 21 minutes through the front-man, who showed determination to stab home Jett Murphy’s centre after Ward had again initiated the attack down the left-hand side. Blues had barely ventured into opposition territory and, after Camina’s effort was blocked midway through the first half, they were indebted to their goalkeeper for keeping them within touching distance. In the 25th minute Barrett sprinted off his line to claim the ball at the feet of Hayes before he made a stunning save 60 seconds later to deny Murphy, who had been slipped clear by Hayes. Barrett anticipated the pass and closed down the angle before clawing the shot away from goal at the near post. On 34 minutes Barrett tipped a Hayes attempt over, and when he was finally beaten for a second time moments later, the woodwork came to Southend’s rescue as Legg directed Ward’s left-wing delivery against the crossbar. Barrett reacted quickly to smother the rebound from Hayes, and he ended the opening period with a full-length dive to save from the same player. Bailey sent on Dylan Pattison and Sorae in place of Buck and Duru at the break, and although Murphy guided a header wide from a Ward free-kick two minutes into the second half, the signs in the early stages were more encouraging, resulting in an equaliser five minutes after the restart. Brandon Dadson did well to feed Oscar Miller down the left-hand side of the penalty area and, when he was tripped, the referee pointed to the spot. Maguranyanga made no mistake from 12 yards and as he sent Joshua Wilson the wrong way. Briefly it appeared that Southend might have ridden out the storm and began to focus on the task at hand. Sorae’s superb right-wing cross was scooped over by Maguranyanga in the 52nd minute, and four minutes later the goalscorer almost turned provider as he squared towards Miller, who couldn’t apply the finish from inside the six-yard box. Miller also curled a free-kick straight into Wilson’s gloves from 25 yards out, but Chelmsford also went close during this period with Murphy rounding Barrett before sending his shot from an acute angle across the face of goal, whilst Murphy’s strike from a Hayes free-kick was charged down. The Clarets restored their lead in the 66th minute. Murphy, who was becoming ever-more influential in the visitors’ play, did well down the left-hand side, and he managed to find Camina, who turned home from eight yards out. Five minutes later Barrett made a fine double-save to deny Murphy and Theo Mquillan following a right-wing cross and, with 15 minutes remaining, Clark nodded over from a corner. While it remained 2-1 there was still hope for Southend, and substitute Limbada saw a shot blocked before Maguranyanga’s overhead kick drifted narrowly wide. Murphy blasted over before Barrett repelled a strong shot, and on 83 minutes the custodian made an excellent save at point-blank range as Legg met a Murphy centre. However, Chelmsford confirmed their victory with four minutes left when Hayes looped the ball into the top right-hand corner. Captain Nikolay Zlatev had his own close-range strike charged down immediately afterwards, but Blues were unable to force their way back into the game late on. But Bailey believes the display might serve as a wake-up call to the squad after a 100 per cent record from their opening seven league and cup fixtures. “From a development perspective it’s probably come at a good time with a cup game next week,” he said. “In the league there are 12 more games, but if we had turned in that performance next week it could’ve been the end of that cup run.” “We had built up some good momentum in terms of trying to win the league, and we want to win the league; no-one is hiding away from that. We’re here to produce players for the U19s and then on to the first-team, but everyone wants to win the league and no-one wants to lose games.” “There has to be a much more professional attitude in terms of what we do. "It’s a learning curve, but this is a new group of players starting out in a new league and they’ve won every game until this one. "Maybe they took their eye off the ball, but now there needs to be a complete focus." Southend United U18s: Joshua Barrett, Joseph Buck (Dylan Pattison 46), Oscar Miller, Ibrahim Lima (Muhammed Limbada 66), Prince Chinedum, James Datey, Innocent Duru (Yobor Sorae 46), Kye Munro, Nikolay Zlatev, Brandon Dadson, Sisanda Maguranyanga. By MIKE CATALINI, Associated Press TRENTON, N.J. — A large number of mysterious drones have been reported flying over New Jersey and across the eastern U.S., sparking speculation and concern over where they came from and why. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and U.S. Sen. Andy Kim have both gone out on drone hunts, hoping for answers. The FBI, Homeland Security, state police and other agencies are investigating. Murphy and law enforcement officials have stressed that the drones don’t appear to be a threat to public safety, but many state and municipal lawmakers have nonetheless called for stricter rules about who can fly the unmanned aircraft — and to be allowed to shoot them out of the sky. What’s the deal with the drones? Dozens of witnesses have reported seeing drones statewide since mid-November, including near the Picatinny Arsenal, a military research and manufacturing facility, and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. Murphy, a Democrat, said Monday that equipment supplied by the federal government has yielded little new information. He declined to describe the equipment except to say it was powerful and could even “mitigate” the drones, though he added that’s not currently legal on U.S. soil. The state tallied 12 sightings Saturday and just one on Sunday. Murphy urged Congress to give states more authority to deal with the drones. Do the drones pose a threat? The growing anxiety among some residents is not lost on the Biden administration, which has faced criticism from Trump for not dealing with the matter more aggressively. White House national security spokesman John Kirby on Monday said the federal government has yet to identify any public safety or national security risks from reported drone sightings in the northeast, saying officials believe they were lawfully flown drones, planes or even stars. “There are more than 1 million drones that are lawfully registered with the Federal Aviation Administration here in the United States,” Kirby said. “And there are thousands of commercial, hobbyist and law enforcement drones that are lawfully in the sky on any given day. That is the ecosystem that we are dealing with.” The federal government has deployed personnel and advanced technology to investigate the reports in New Jersey and other states, and is evaluating each tip reported by citizens, he said. The FBI received more than 5,000 tips in recent weeks, he added, with only “about 100” deemed credible enough to require additional investigation. Who is operating the drones? Authorities say they do not know. The Department of Homeland Security and FBI said they have no evidence that the aircraft pose “a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus.” Speculation has nevertheless raged online, with some expressing concerns that the drones could be part of a nefarious plot by foreign agents. Officials stress that ongoing investigations have found no evidence to support such concerns, but U.S. Rep Chris Smith, a Republican, on Saturday echoed such speculation. “The elusive maneuvering of these drones suggests a major military power sophistication that begs the question whether they have been deployed to test our defense capabilities — or worse — by violent dictatorships, perhaps maybe Russia, or China, or Iran, or North Korea,” he said. On Monday, Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder cast doubt on the idea that the drones are engaged in intelligence gathering, given how loud and bright they are. He said about 1 million drones are registered drones in the U.S. and about 8,000 flying on any given day. Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh has said the aircraft are not U.S. military drones. Ohio Air Force base closes airspace Drones flying around Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, forced base officials to close its airspace for about four hours late Friday into early Saturday, said Robert Purtiman, a base spokesperson. It was the first time drones had been spotted at the base, one of the largest in the world, and no sightings have been reported since, Purtiman said Monday. He said the drones had no impact on any facilities on the base. Officials urge action Trump has said he believes the government knows more than it’s saying. “Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!” he posted on Truth Social. Kim said he’s heard no support for the notion the government is hiding anything. He said a lack of faith in institutions is playing a key part in the saga. “Nothing that I’m seeing, nothing that I’ve engaged in gives me any impression of that nature. But like, I get it, some people won’t believe me, right? Because that’s the level of distrust that we face,” Kim said Monday. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut last week called for the drones to be “shot down.” Rep. Smith urged the Pentagon to authorize the use of force to bring down one or more drones to try to figure out who deployed them. The objects could be downed over the ocean or in an unpopulated area on land, Smith said Saturday. “Why can’t we bag at least one of these drones and get to the bottom of it?” Smith said.
Aspiring congresswoman and controversial MAGA cheerleader Valentina Gomez has sparked outrage once again after posting a video in which she appears to simulate executing an immigrant . The 25-year-old, who tried and failed to be elected as the Missouri Secretary of State earlier this year , said in the disturbing clip that undocumented persons who committed violent crimes “deserve to be ended.” In the video, posted to X on Monday, Gomez is seen firing a handgun into the back of the head of a dummy tied to a chair with a black bag over its head. “It’s that simple, public executions for any illegal that rapes or kills an American. They don’t deserve deportation, they deserve to be ended,” she says. The video has been flagged by X as potentially violating the platform’s rules against “violent speech,” but it had not been removed as of Tuesday. “Public executions for any illegal that rapes or kills an American.” Gomez captioned the video. It quickly sparked outrage from other social media users, with some branding the Colombian native as a “psychopath.” “What’s wrong with these people?” one wrote. “They’re unhinged, mentally ill, and sociopathic,” replied another. Critics even included the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro , who wrote: “She is not just an American fascist. She is Colombian. And being a migrant, what she wants is to unleash hatred against migrants. Most Americans are killed by Americans.” However, others seemed to agree with Gomez’s stance, including fellow MAGA firebrand and Trump acolyte Laura Loomer who posted. “Love this.” After X started restricting the video, Gomez claimed that she was “the biggest threat to the establishment because I call it like I see it.” “I give people hope, and I don’t need their money. Remember, nobody is coming to save us. Stay strapped,” she said. The sentiment of Gomez’s video echoes that of President-elect Donald Trump , who has previously called for expanding the death penalty to those people who have arrived in the country illegally who kill a citizen or police. Trump has railed against Joe Biden’s decision to pardon the majority of federal death row inmates. Gomez has frequently shared outrageous or shocking videos on her social media pages and has consequently been banned from Instagram. In previous clips she frequently used homophobic slurs, and in one video, set two LGBTQ-inclusive books on fire. She has characterized the literature as “grooming, indoctrinating and sexualizing.” During the 2024 election campaign she called Vice President Kamala Harris a “hoe” and “little b****”, used the word “f****t” to describe transgender people and described Democrats as “full of gay s***”, among other things. Her bold rhetoric ultimately did not play well with voters. Gomez gained only 7.4 per cent of the vote with finishing sixth out of eight candidates in the race for Missouri Secretary of State . Last week she announced that she was running for Congress in Texas and relocating to the state to challenge Republican congressman Dan Crenshaw’s seat. “I don’t fear pdfs, criminals, or the crooks in DC. I only fear God,” she wrote in a post announcing the move.More Mbappe woe as Real Madrid lose to Athletic Bilbao
