GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Defending the run has been one of the Green Bay Packers’ weaknesses over the last several years. Not so much lately, though. Green Bay limited San Francisco to 16 carries for 44 yards in a 38-10 rout of the 49ers on Nov. 24, with two-time All-Pro Christian McCaffrey gaining 31 yards on 11 attempts. Four nights later, the Packers beat Miami 30-17 by holding the Dolphins to 39 yards on 14 carries. It was the first time since 1995 — and only the second time since 1950 — that the Packers had allowed fewer than 45 yards rushing in back-to-back games within the same season. “I think we’re playing harder and harder each week,” first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley said. “And that’s how you play good defense.” That defense needs to be at its best Thursday as the Packers (9-3) close a stretch of three games in 12 days by visiting the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions (12-1), who have the NFL’s highest-scoring offense thanks in part to a rushing attack featuring the speedy Jahmyr Gibbs and the physical David Montgomery. “Gibbs is a great running back,” defensive lineman Kenny Clark said. “I really think the offense really starts with him, honestly. He can do everything — receive, in-and-out runner, can do stretch, duo plays. We’ve got to have all hands on deck with Gibbs. And then Montgomery, he’s a great complement to him. He can do everything, also.” The Lions were the first team since the 1975 Miami Dolphins to rush for at least 100 yards and a touchdown in each of their first 11 games. The streak ended on Thanksgiving when the Lions rushed for 194 yards but didn’t have a touchdown on the ground in a 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears. Green Bay outrushed Detroit 138-124 in the Packers’ 24-14 loss to the Lions on Nov. 3 at Lambeau Field. Montgomery rushed for 73 yards while Gibbs ran for 65 yards and a touchdown. Gibbs has 973 yards this season, which ranks fourth in the NFL. Montgomery ran for a combined 192 yards and four touchdowns in the Lions’ two games against the Packers last season. Green Bay’s run defense has come a long way since. The Packers have allowed 106.6 yards rushing per game this season, which ranks eighth in the league. The Packers haven’t closed a season in the top 10 in run defense since 2016 and have finished outside the top 20 in four of the last six years, including 26th in 2022 and 28th in 2023. “I think Haf’s doing a good job of mixing up the fronts and some of the coverages, but really it’s ultimately about tackling, swarming, getting many hats to the football,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “And our guys have really embraced that style of play.” The Packers are yielding 4.2 yards per carry to rank seventh in the league after finishing 22nd or worst in that category each of the last three seasons. They haven’t closed a season ranked in the top 10 in yards allowed per carry since 2017. Hafley says the improvement starts up front. “The interior part of our D-line has done such a good job these last few games,” Hafley said. “They really have. They’re hard to block. They’re staying in their gaps. They’re tearing off of blocks, and it’s the same thing with those defensive ends. They’re setting edges, they’re forcing the ball back inside, they’re getting off blocks and then we’re tackling and we’re running to the ball and there’s multiple people to the ball. “And when you turn on our tape right now and when you freeze it, you see that. You see a lot of guys around the football. And then you’re not afraid, right? Like if I have an open-field tackle and I know eight other guys are coming, I’m going to take my shot because I know if I miss, it’s going to be, ‘Bang, bang, bang,’ we’ve got three or four other guys there, and we’re starting to play faster.” Green Bay's defense has the Lions’ attention. “They’ve been playing well,” Detroit coach Dan Campbell said. “I mean, they have, really, all season, and nothing has changed.” ___ AP Sports Writer Larry Lage contributed to this report. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL Steve Megargee, The Associated Pressbecu live at northern quest resort & casino

Iron Mountain Incorporated Upsizes and Prices Debt Offering

Family caregivers need care and support tooHigh-yield funds can be risky. In a perfect world, every ultra-generous dividend yield would be a direct result of strong businesses generating lots of excess cash profits. In the real world, they're more often related to low stock prices and businesses in deep financial trouble. As a result, high yields tend to be paired with disappointing price charts and modest total returns, at best. What if I told you that one of the largest income-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on the market today combines rich yields with impressive fund-price gains? The JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF ( JEPQ 0.83% ) checks both of those shareholder-friendly boxes -- and many more. Why this young income-oriented ETF is turning heads The Premium Income ETF is a very young fund, launched in May 2022. You may also have skipped it in the massive sea of income-generating ETFs because it's an actively managed fund. Passive index funds tend to come with lower annual fees, so it makes sense to start your fund-screening process with that criterion. But this JPMorgan instrument may be well worth its 0.35% management fee. Here's a quick rundown of the fund's unique qualities: The Premium Income ETF's experienced management team relies on data science to select high-income stocks from the growth-oriented Nasdaq 100 market index. 54% of the portfolio is currently invested in information technology and communication services -- two market sectors closely related to the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) boom. The top 10 holdings include the entire list of "Magnificent 7" stocks -- proven winners with very large market caps. Some of those tech giants don't pay dividends, but the fund managers generate monthly income from them in other ways. Annual dividend yields currently stand at 9.3% after rising above 12% over the summer. It has a massive $20.7 billion of assets under management, despite its short market history. Investors were quick to embrace this promising new fund: JEPQ Total Assets Under Management data by YCharts. The dividend-boosting methods include some risky tricks, such as selling short-term call options to generate payments out of volatile stocks. That's great when it works, but could also result in weak fund performance and lower yields in a persistent market downturn. The fund was launched a couple of months before this bull market started. It has not yet been tested in a weak economy, which could unleash the downsides of option-based investing tactics. The 0.35% management fee may not look like much, but it's far above the 0.06% average of the 10 largest ETFs today and even further ahead of low-cost funds such as the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF ( VOO 1.03% ) . The fee could actually make a big difference in the long run. The Vanguard fund's 0.03% annual fee adds up to 0.3% in a decade, while the Premium Income ETF's fees would total 3.6% over the same period. The options-based income generation results in a monthly dividend payout instead of the usual quarterly checks. You can call that an upside or a downside, depending on which payout cadence you prefer. How the ETF stacks up against the S&P 500 The Premium Income ETF's total returns have matched broad market trackers like the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF since its 2022 inception. At the same time, the fund price has only increased 28%, while the market tracker rose by 46%. In other words, the fund remains reasonably priced, even in a rare market surge, and you're still locking in some incredible dividend payouts for the long run. JEPQ data by YCharts. Long-term dividend yields The monthly payouts added up to $5.38 per share over the last year, or a 10.7% yield against the current share price of approximately $58. I can't promise that the fund will boost its payouts forever, given its reliance on unconventional options-based techniques, but it could be useful to consider how a modest payout increase could play out over time. Let's imagine that the fund's annual total returns hover around the 10% mark over the next decade -- a fairly reasonable assumption for a fund that tends to match the S&P 500 . I would assume that the dividend payouts increase at a similar rate, which results in a 159% increase over the next decade. You would still have a current yield of 9.3% at that point, but the same payout represents a 24% yield against the original purchase price. If you're looking for strong dividend payouts 20 years down the road, this fund could give you an effective yield of 62% on an investment made in 2024. This thought experiment relies on many assumptions, but you get the idea. Even if the JPMorgan Nasdaq Equity Premium Income ETF might underperform the S&P 500, it could grow into a hyper-effective source of cash payouts in the long term. If you have $2,000 available to start a position today, this fund could pay out dividends approaching $1,317 in 2044. That's an effective yield of 66%, though it could be higher or lower depending on how accurate my assumptions are. At that point, the price per share won't really matter anymore. You'd never sell any part of that high-powered cash machine unless you absolutely had to.

Russia's "Ghost Fleet" of oil tankers are facing a new round of sanctions from the European Union ( EU ) amid the ongoing war with Ukraine. The Sanctions EU envoys have approved a new package of sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine with a focus on a vast shadow fleet of ships Moscow uses to evade restrictions on oil and fuel transport, the EU's Hungarian presidency announced Wednesday. The sanctions target around 50 ships described as aging and often decrepit that are reportedly operating illegally to evade restrictions. Hungary said the measures are intended to "constrain the activity" of vessels that "contribute or support actions or policies supporting Russia's actions against Ukraine." The sanctions package will also target additional officials and entities, including organizations, companies, banks and government agencies, particularly in countries aiding Russia in advancing its military technology by circumventing export restrictions. EU foreign ministers are set to formally approve the sanctions package on Monday. The specific details of the individuals and entities targeted will be disclosed when the measures are published in the EU's official legal journal. Past Sanctions Against Russia Since President Vladimir Putin launched the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the EU has implemented multiple rounds of sanctions against Russia, and more than 2,300 individuals and entities are now subject to restrictive measures. The sanctions have hit Russia's energy sector, banks, major businesses, markets and the world's largest diamond mining company. They also include asset freezes and travel bans on Putin, his inner circle and dozens of Russian lawmakers. Russia's "Ghost Fleet" In October, the Kyiv School of Economics Institute (KSE) think tank raised alarms over the ecological dangers of the "shadow fleet" that the Kremlin uses to circumvent a G7 ban on firms from insuring, financing and shipping Russian seaborne oil exports sold above $60 a barrel. The goal of the price cap was to choke revenues fueling Putin's war machine, but Moscow has responded by transporting oil through vessels whose ownership is reorganized to hide Russian links, often through shell companies. Despite this crackdown, Russia has expanded the capacity of oil transported by its shadow fleet of oil tankers by almost 70 per cent year on year, from 2.4 million barrels per day in June 2023 to 4.1 million in June 2024, the KSE said in its report. Benjamin Hilgenstock, a senior economist at KSE Institute and the report's co-author told Newsweek in October that "so far, we have been lucky because either an incident was narrowly avoided or, when it happened, the vessel was empty. But it's really a question of time until that luck runs out." This article includes reporting from The Associated Press.I am standing on a dune looking out to sea. It's 2024, but I'm thinking about a very different time. Hundreds of thousands of years ago this 350km stretch of southern African coast looked very different. It was home to giant zebra , bird species that are now extinct, giant tortoises and crocodiles . Our hominin ancestors roamed the area . We know some of these facts because of body fossils. But South Africa's Cape south coast is also home to another rich source of information, which our research team from the African Centre for Coastal Palaeoscience at Nelson Mandela University has documented over the past 15 years: fossilised tracksites. These trace fossils date to the Pleistocene epoch , with ages ranging from 400,000 years to 35,000 years . Most of them are preserved in a rock type known as aeolianite (cemented dune surfaces). googletag.cmd.push(function(){googletag.display('div-gpt-async-ad-inread-a');}); The tracksites are an example of what's known as geoheritage, which the Geological Society of South Africa calls a "descriptive term applied to sites (geosites) or areas of geologic features with significant scientific, educational, cultural, or aesthetic value". The importance of geoheritage is becoming increasingly recognised at a global level; for example, it is relevant to the United Nations' 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development goals , and Unesco's Global Geoparks "celebrate the links between geological heritage and all other types of heritage". Given our discoveries on the Cape south coast, as well as what other researchers have found in the West Coast National Park, about 120km outside Cape Town, it's clear that South Africa is home to some remarkable geoheritage. Read more: Gigantic wolverines, otters the size of wolves: fossils offer fresh insights into the past In a recently published scientific paper we outlined this geoheritage, examined the threats it faces from both nature and human interference, and suggested how it could be preserved. These sites have almost certainly come and gone over previous centuries and millennia without our knowledge. However, now that we know about them and can appreciate them, scientists and heritage authorities have an obligation to celebrate, protect and preserve them as vitally important geoheritage items, and to raise awareness about this precious, newly discovered resource. Threats The Cape coastal sites are threatened on many fronts. Cliff collapse events expose new sites, while known sites slump into the sea or are eroded rapidly by wind, high tides and storm surges. In addition, humans find these surfaces attractive and engrave graffiti into them, potentially damaging the precious fossil tracksites . Read more: Graffiti threatens precious evidence of ancient life on South Africa's coast Many of the sites are of hominin origin. Some are ancestral human trackways; others preserve patterns made by our ancestors on dune surfaces that may be some of the oldest examples of art . These patterns, which we've dubbed ammoglyphs, have been reported only on the Cape coast and nowhere else in the world. They are therefore of global heritage value. One site even contains the oldest known fossil footprint attributed to our own species. Read more: World's oldest _Homo sapiens_ footprint identified on South Africa's Cape south coast I regard each of these sites as a miracle of preservation, of something that we are now able to recognise and interpret, against all the odds. We know what to look for and we know these surfaces have the capacity to record this priceless heritage. We just need to be vigilant and keep visiting this coastline, especially after storm surges or cliff-collapse events. Managing the sites Mixed with this good fortune, however, come problems, questions, and management challenges. Which sites require active management, and how should they be ranked in importance? What is the scientific and heritage value of the sites? Is physical recovery possible by helicopter or four-wheel drive, or is replication through digital technology the most appropriate route to follow? And if physical recovery is possible, are there suitable repositories for specimens? What if nothing is done - how significant are the threats to a site's integrity, and how accessible or remote is it? At a global level, such checklists are surprisingly rare; we are aware of only two examples. We used these as a basis for our checklist, modifying their criteria to be applicable to the Cape coast. Criterion categories included a site's uniqueness and scientific value, threats in the current location, accessibility and feasibility of recovery, research and education value, and the potential for post-removal care. The resulting checklist forms the basis for constructive collaboration with management authorities like national parks, provincial nature reserves, municipalities or private landowners, as well as national and provincial heritage authorities. Good working relationships between these roleplayers and scientific researchers are key if geoheritage sites are to properly handled and preserved. The published article and the ranking checklist are not an end in themselves. We hope they will provide a starting point for meaningful collaboration and discussion. Washington, Dec 4 (PTI) The United States on Tuesday imposed sanctions on 35 entities and vessels, including two from India, for transporting Iranian oil to other countries. The two India-based entities are Vision Ship Management LLP that manages and operates the PHONIX, and Tightship Shipping Management (OPC) Private Limited. Also Read | Palestine: Hamas, Fatah Near Agreement on Who Will Oversee Postwar Gaza Strip. Entities and vessels from the United Arab Emirates, China, Liberia, China, Hong Kong among others have also been slapped with sanctions. In a statement, the Department of Treasury said this action imposes additional costs on Iran's petroleum sector following Iran's attack against Israel on October 1, as well as Iran's announced nuclear escalations, building upon the sanctions issued on October 11. Also Read | South Korea Martial Law: South Korean Parliament Votes to Defy President Yoon Suk Yeol by Lifting His Declaration of Martial Law (Watch Videos). Petroleum revenues provide the Iranian regime with the resources to fund its nuclear program, develop advanced drones and missiles, and provide ongoing financial and material support for the terrorist activities of its regional proxies, it said. Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley T Smith said, “Iran continues to funnel revenues from its petroleum trade toward the development of its nuclear program, proliferation of its ballistic missile and unmanned aerial vehicle technology, and sponsorship of its regional terrorist proxies, risking further destabilizing the region.” The United States remains committed to disrupting the shadow fleet of vessels and operators that facilitate these illicit activities, using the full range of our tools and authorities, he said. According to the Treasury, India-based Vision Ship Management LLP manages and operates the PHONIX, formerly known as the LUNA LAKE, which has carried millions of barrels of Iranian crude oil for CCPC since 2022. Vision Ship Management LLP also owns, manages, and operates the Cook Islands-flagged RIO NAPO (IMO: 9256913) and the Panama-flagged LARA II (IMO: 9321421). The RIO NAPO previously transported 35,000 metric tons of Iranian naphtha worth approximately $21.5 million to the UAE, it said. India-based Tightship Shipping Management (OPC) Private Limited manages or operates the OLIVE, BLACK PANTHER, and LIONESS, which have collectively carried tens of millions of dollars' worth of Iranian oil for NIOC since at least 2022. The BLACK PANTHER has engaged in ship-to-ship transfers of Iranian oil with Iranian-flagged vessels. Tightship Shipping Management (OPC) Private Limited is involved in the management of a fourth vessel, the Panama-flagged TONIL (IMO: 9307932), which is managed and operated by Ukraine-based Lightship Management Ltd and has skirted sanctions to carry millions of barrels of oil for Iran, the Treasury alleged. Tightship Shipping Management (OPC) Private Limited and Lightship Management Ltd are being designated pursuant to E.O. 13902 for operating in the petroleum sector of the Iranian economy. The OLIVE, the BLACK PANTHER, and the LIONESS are being identified as property in which Tightship Shipping Management (OPC) Private Limited has an interest. The TONIL is being identified as property in which Lightship Management Ltd has an interest. A small asteroid was visible in northern Siberia on Tuesday, as it closed in on its collision course with Earth. It's first of two expected flybys this week. The European Space Agency issued an alert for the 27-inch asteroid at 4:27 a.m. ET, with the agency saying the celestial rock would create a visible fireball in the sky but that "the impact will be harmless." The asteroid, temporarily named C0WEPC5, has become Earth's fourth detected asteroid strike of the year and just the 11th of all time. Detected strikes are known as "imminent impactors," according to the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona, which identified the fast-moving asteroid ahead of its arrival. The space rock entered Earth's atmosphere at 11:15 a.m. ET over Yakutia in northeastern Siberia, creating a massive fireball witnessed by people in the region, according to the agency. Video posted to social media on Tuesday shows the bright, fast-moving fireball darting through the sky before dissipating. It's currently unknown how much, if any, of the asteroid debris landed on Earth. Flyby asteroids are common, and astronomers' ability to detect them has rapidly increased with technological advancements. According to NASA , 132 known asteroids have passed closer to Earth than the moon is since October 2023. Overall, there have been upward of 36,000 asteroid flybys, the agency reported. Adding to the solar system show this week, another asteroid, known as 2020 XR, will fly by Earth at 12:27 a.m. ET on Wednesday, according to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory . Significantly larger but much farther away from impact than Tuesday's asteroid, 2020 XR is approximately 1,200 feet in diameter -- roughly the same as the height of New York City's Empire State Building -- but will pass Earth at a comfortable distance of 1.37 million miles, according to NASA. While the massive asteroid will unlikely have any impact, and is not considered a threat by officials, NASA designates any object that comes within 4.6 million miles of Earth as "potentially hazardous."MAGA is imploding before our eyes, but the usually sensationally loud Donald Trump is staying silent. Trump hasn't even re-entered the White House, with the president-elect being forced to dismiss the notion that billionaire Elon Musk is running the country and bidding to take over multiple countries, but huge cracks are beginning to show. DOGE leaders Vivek Ramaswamy and Musk have become embroiled in a huge scandal over their stance on foreign worker visas, leading many Replublicans to start questioning their role in Trump's administration. Dad makes friend dig own grave and kill himself after raping his daughter, six New York radiation levels spike amid drone sightings as Americans told 'prepare for worst' The pair have received a massibve backlash after defending companies using foreign workers on H-1B visas, particularly after they claimed there isn't enough talent in the US. Musk's claim there is a "shortage of talent" and Ramaswamy slamming American culture have caused an outcry from the MAGA faithful, Nikki Haley, Matt Gaetz and Laura Loomer. But all Trump has spoken about today is Sean Hannity's engagement and boasting about his New Year's Eve party at Mar-a-Lago. "I'm surprised Trump hasn't said anything yet," wrote one confused commentator on X. Another asked: "Why is Trump so silent on what’s going on with Elon and Vivek? He loud about everything else. Elon got that leash tight!" "Elon Musk, & Vivek insulted EVERY SINGLE American worker, now Musk is deplatforming Maga accounts. Trump is silent," shouted a third. While a fourth agreed: "Extremely funny how Trump has been completely silent while Vivek and Elon are getting eviscerated." The controversy started when Musk called for US tech companies to "double" the number of engineers working in America on Christmas day. "The number of people who are super-talented engineers AND super motivated in the USA is far too low," he added on Thursday. Comparing recruiting foreign workers to assembling a sports team, he tweeted: "You need to recruit top talent wherever they may be. That enables the whole TEAM to win." Ramaswamy infuriated more peope when he suggested American "has venerated mediocrity over excellence" and said kids should be having less sleepovers and mall visits and more science quizes. "A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad [sic] champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers," he wrote on X. In response, Haley wrote: "There is nothing wrong with American workers or American culture. All you have to do is look at the border and see how many want what we have. We should be investing and prioritizing in Americans, not foreign workers."Something to look forward to: A true stereo experience is all about separating the speakers. The farther apart the left and right channels, the wider the soundstage. This has always posed a challenge for portable speakers, as cramming multiple drivers into a compact enclosure leaves little room for proper spacing. However, Japanese audio company Cear believes it has cracked the code with its innovative Pavé wireless speaker. The Pavé was launched earlier this year following a successful crowdfunding campaign on Green Funding. At first glance, it resembles other premium wireless speakers, featuring a compact cube shape measuring just over 3.5 inches on each side. However, what sets the Pavé apart lies within. Using unique audio technology, it virtually recreates the experience of a larger 2.1-channel stereo setup – even though it only houses a pair of 15W drivers. The secret lies in a built-in gyroscope that tracks the speaker's orientation. This sensor data is fed into a Qualcomm S5 Gen 2 chip, which applies digital sound processing. Essentially, the chip calculates how a stereo recording would sound if it were being played from a much larger speaker setup. It then reconstructs that "virtual" wide soundstage through the Pavé's dual 15W drivers. According to the company's patent filings, the "sound processing device includes an equalizer that tunes the frequency characteristic so that a frequency characteristic of the sound wave listened in a second environment replicates the frequency characteristic of a sound wave listened in a first environment." But that's not all – the Pavé has plenty of other fancy tech baked in, too. It's one of the first portable speakers rocking Bluetooth 5.4 with Qualcomm's low-latency Snapdragon Sound certification. You'll get a stutter-free wireless stream with less than a 50ms delay. The audio codec support is also robust, covering SBC, AAC, aptX, and 24-bit/96kHz aptX Adaptive. Additionally, the speaker supports Bluetooth LE for Auracast audio sharing and the higher-quality LC3 codec. If you prefer a hardwired connection, USB-C and aux inputs have you covered. The 8.5-hour battery life and IPX7 waterproof rating make it outdoor-ready, too. Setting it up should be a piece of cake as well since the speaker can be connected via both the app and the unit. If you're interested in purchasing this little powerhouse, you might need to wait in line. The Pavé has proven to be a hot commodity, requiring registration on a waiting list . Units are priced at 39,800 yen (or around $250) and are available in black or white.Namibia will have its first female leader after VP wins presidential election for the ruling party

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) on Tuesday approved two major projects to enhance the solid and liquid waste management of the city, including a new horticulture waste processing plant at Industrial Area and a sewerage treatment plant in Faidan village. Around 12 tonnes per day (TPD) of pruned horticulture waste is received and processed at the existing horticulture waste processing plant daily. Chandigarh MC has composed bits at 104 sites inside parks, holding a total capacity of 32 TPD, where this horticulture waste is processed to make it into compost. But to process the leftover horticulture waste, which includes garden waste and small dry leaves, a plan has been made to set up a processing plant of 60 TPD capacity, based on biofuel briquetting technology, at a cost of ₹ 4 crore at the Industrial Area Phase-2. The collected horticulture waste will be fed to the plant, segregated from impurities, if any, screened from dust, ground, dried and compacted to make bricks. Also, as per the guidelines of National Green Tribunal (NGT), MC also approved a project to build a new sewerage treatment plant (STP) to process wastewater from Faidan village, situated on Chandigarh-Punjab border, at a cost of ₹ 7 crore. At present, there is no proper sewage network available in the village and the wastewater is being generated on private land that falls outside the jurisdiction of MC. The wastewater is presently being discharged in N-choe which is then discharged finally into Ghaggar river. Though Chandigarh has more than 100% treatment capacity, there is a wastewater gap generated from a densely populated village that remains untreated. Since the land belongs to the Chandigarh administration, the MC has requested its transfer without any cost to construct the STP. Sidelights Mayor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor on Tuesday thanked city councillors and MC officers for supporting him during his tenure as mayor. “As we go into New Year, this may be my last house meeting (maybe of tenure of for 2024. I thank everyone for supporting me throughout the year,” he said. Dhalor was appointed mayor by the Supreme Court and he took charge on February 20, 2024. Though mayor elections are conducted every year in January, AAP may demand one-complete year of mayor tenure and demand elections to be postponed till February. If done, the mayor may hold another house meeting in January but if not, this would be Dhalor’s last house as mayor. Mayor elections are yet to be notified by DC. AAP and Congress councillors protested against power privatisation in Chandigarh. While raising slogans, councillors demanded roll back of the decision. “Electricity rates will be increased manifold in the city with UT’s decision”, they said, but interestingly, no BJP councillor supported the protest. Notably, AAP-Congress councillors had promised free electricity in Chandigarh in their manifestos.

Heavy travel day starts with brief grounding of all American Airlines flights WASHINGTON (AP) — American Airlines briefly grounded flights nationwide due to a technical problem just as the Christmas travel season kicked into overdrive and winter weather threatened more potential problems for those planning to fly or drive. Government regulators cleared American flights to get airborne Tuesday about one hour after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a national ground stop, which prevented planes from taking off. American said in an email that the problem was caused by an issue with a vendor technology that maintains its flight operating system. Aviation analytics company Cirium said flights were delayed across American’s major hubs, with only 37% leaving on time. Nineteen flights were cancelled. Middle East latest: Israel expels patients from a hospital in Gaza TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The Palestinian Health Ministry says Israeli soldiers raided a hospital in isolated northern Gaza after forcing all the patients and most of the doctors to leave. The Israeli military confirmed its troops had entered the Indonesian Hospital in the town of Jabaliya on Tuesday, as part of an operation searching for Hamas fighters. The two India-based entities are Vision Ship Management LLP that manages and operates the PHONIX, and Tightship Shipping Management (OPC) Private Limited. Entities and vessels from the United Arab Emirates, China, Liberia, China, Hong Kong among others have also been slapped with sanctions. In a statement, the Department of Treasury said this action imposes additional costs on Iran’s petroleum sector following Iran’s attack against Israel on October 1, as well as Iran’s announced nuclear escalations, building upon the sanctions issued on October 11. India-based Tightship Shipping Management (OPC) Private Limited manages or operates the OLIVE, BLACK PANTHER, and LIONESS, which have collectively carried tens of millions of dollars’ worth of Iranian oil for NIOC since at least 2022. PTI LKJ NB NB (This story is published as part of the auto-generated syndicate wire feed. But it's fine if you're not interested. A new survey by SellCell indicates that 73% of Apple users think AI adds little to no value to the phone experience, while CNET found that 25% of smartphone owners are not interested at all . If Apple Intelligence holds no appeal for you, or if you'd rather wait until the tech matures a bit more, it's easy to turn it off entirely or selectively disable some of the features. I'm not an AI crank -- I appreciate features such as notification summaries and the Clean Up tool in the Photos app. And yet, Apple Intelligence is also a work in progress, an evolving set of features that Apple is heavily hyping while gradually developing. I wouldn't hold it against you if you wanted to not be distracted or feel like you're doing Apple's testing for them (that's what the developer and public betas are for). Remember that Apple Intelligence works only on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro or M-series Macs and iPads (plus the newest iPad mini). And if you've already updated to iOS 18.2 , you need to add yourself to the queue for access to the new features. Here's what you need to know about disabling it. How to turn off Apple Intelligence entirely (iPhone, iPad and Mac) Open Settings (iPhone or iPad) or System Settings (Mac) and choose Apple Intelligence & Siri . Then turn off the Apple Intelligence option. Confirm your choice in the dialog that appears by tapping Turn Off Apple Intelligence . Turn off Apple Intelligence entirely with one switch. Here's what you lose: (Curiously, the Clean Up tool in Photos sticks around even when Apple Intelligence is turned off, perhaps because the first time you use it the app downloads resources for it.) How to turn off individual Apple Intelligence features Maybe you're finding some Apple Intelligence features helpful while others are annoying (or just highly amusing ). You can turn off specific features in the settings for apps to which they apply. For example, to disable text summaries in Messages notifications, go to Settings > Apps > Messages and switch off the Summarize Messages option. Turn off Messages summaries while still using other Apple Intelligence features. Some features are not as app-specific. Writing Tools, which use Apple Intelligence to proof or rewrite text, appear as an option when you select text, regardless of the app. To turn that off, you need to disable Apple Intelligence system-wide. Also note that nearly every app includes an Apple Intelligence & Siri option in Settings, with a Learn from this App option (turned on by default). That applies just to whether Apple Intelligence and Siri can monitor how you use it to make suggestions; it doesn't affect any particular Apple Intelligence features.
