Former President Jimmy Carter left one last parting gift for president-elect Donald Trump after his death at 100 on Sunday. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs , the American flag should fly at ā€œhalf-staff for 30 days at all federal buildings, grounds, and naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories and possessions after the death of the president or a former president.ā€ This means that on Trumpā€™s inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025, all flags will be at half-staff in honor of the late president. The longest-living U.S. commander-in-chief, Carter died at his home in Plains, Georgia, his son, Chip, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday. Trump sent his condolences to Carterā€™s family in a Truth Social post Sunday, writing: ā€œThose of us who have been fortunate to have served as President understand this is a very exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History.ā€ He added: ā€œMelania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers.ā€ One last gift from Jimmy Carter, all flags will be at half-staff on Inauguration Day pic.twitter.com/vQsl8wlrXY Mufasa: The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 continue to bolster the box officeā€™s holiday performance, with both films raking in over $60 million this week. After an initial disappointing opening weekend, Disneyā€™s prequel to its beloved tale bounced back over the Christmas stretch, bringing in a domestic total of around $63.8 million since Wednesday. Meanwhile, Sonic 3 trailed slightly behind with an estimated gross of $60.4 million since Christmas. As both films continue to perform well domestically and overseas, other new releases like Robert Eggersā€™ Nosferatu also found surprising wins at the holiday box officeā€”with the vampire flick posting $40.3 million during its five-day opening. Elsewhere, the Bob Dylan biopic starring TimotheĢe Chalamet, A Complete Unknown , is also on course to gross $23.3 million over the five-day Christmas stretch, while Nicole Kidmanā€™s raunchy erotica for A24, Babygirl , reported a $7 million five-day opening. Wicked also continues to defy gravity, posting a global gross of $634.4 million and surpassing Mamma Mia! as the highest-grossing stage musical adaptation of all time. President Joe Biden let slip last year that former President Jimmy Carter asked him to give his eulogyā€”over a year before he died. Biden, 82, revealed the request after Carter, then 98, entered hospice care at his longtime home in Plains, Georgia in February 2023. ā€œHe asked me to do his eulogy,ā€ Biden told a crowd of donors at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser about one month later. But Biden quickly caught himself, telling the donors ā€œexcuse me, I shouldnā€™t say that.ā€ Carter died on Sunday, over two months after turning 100, his family confirmed. Speaking to reporters on Sunday night, Biden reflected on his decades-long relationship with the former president. ā€œIā€™ve been hanging out with Jimmy Carter for over 50 years, it dawned on me,ā€ the president said. ā€œHe used to kid me about it, that I was the first national figure to endorse him in 1976 when he ran for president.ā€ Biden did not comment again on the proposed eulogy when he addressed the public. The president said he would be ordering a state funeral for Carterā€”the first since the death of former President George H.W. Bush in 2018. Kieran Culkin once got Mark Ruffalo high while on the job after switching out a prop joint with the real thing. In a profile with The Guardian published Saturday, Culkin recalled the prank his 17-year-old self concocted while starring alongside Ruffalo in an off-Broadway play in 2000, and explained that he ā€œjust watchedā€ as Ruffalo took a draw of the ā€œfakeā€ joint before passing it to his co-stars on stage. ā€œIā€™m like, ā€˜I thought this was a good prank. Iā€™m stupid. Oh my God, Iā€™m so sorry.ā€™ But actually, they loved it,ā€ Culkin remembered. ā€œMark says, ā€˜I havenā€™t smoked pot in 10 years; the second halfā€™s going to be so much fun.ā€™ There was this other actor who had never smoked pot in her life. She goes, ā€˜Is this what being high is? This is lovely.ā€™ And then Phyllis Newman comes in and goes, ā€˜I havenā€™t smoked pot since the 1960s. Thank you, darling.ā€™ā€ The Succession star proceeded to express that he was ā€œ17 and stupidā€ and added, ā€œIā€™m 42 now. I know better. Iā€™m not going to try to get anyone high on stage.ā€ Scouted selects products independently. If you purchase something from our posts, we may earn a small commission. Born in 1946, Trump is 78 years oldā€”and is followed by George W. Bush, also 78, who was born just 22 days later. Bill Clinton, 78 himself, was also born in August 1946. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden, 82, is now the oldest living U.S. president and will be the oldest former president after Trumpā€™s inauguration in January next year. Barack Obama is the youngest living former president at 63. Carterā€™s death was confirmed by his son Chip in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Sunday. He died at his home in Plains, Georgia at 3:45 p.m. after entering hospice care in February 2023. Trump remembered the longest-living U.S. president in a Truth Social post Sunday, writing: ā€œThe challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.ā€ Loved ones of Hudson Meek, the teen actor who died in a car accident last week, gathered to celebrate his life on Saturday. The ā€œcelebration of lifeā€ service, held at a Baptist church in Homewood, Alabama, was livestreamed on the Baby Driver starā€™s Instagram. Several of the loved ones shared their favorite memories of the 16-year-old, and a choir sang in tribute. Fans expressed their appreciation for the service and their condolences in the comment section. ā€œWonderful celebration of Hudsonā€™s life,ā€ wrote user @melindaeubankswest, while @jeanniecmom added, ā€œPraying for Hudsonā€™s family at this difficult time. Fellow teen actor Grace Culwell shared in the comments that she was in attendance, writing: ā€Such a beautiful service & so glad we were able to be there. Sending so much love & prayers to you all.ā€ Meek died on Dec. 21 in from injuries sustained during a fall from a moving car on Dec. 19 in his hometown, Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Meek was known best for appearing in the 2017 crime movie Baby Driver alongside Ansel Elgort, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. A post shared by Hudson Meek (@hudsonmeek) Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner were spotted enjoying themselves at Jeff Bezos ā€™ holiday party at a high-end sushi restaurant in Colorado, on Saturday. The power couple appeared smiling and holding hands in photos, published by Page Six, that showed them departing the gathering at Matsuhisaā€™s location in Aspen. Their invite came after Bezos traveled to Mar-a-Lago earlier this month to bend the knee to her father, President-elect Donald Trump. Saturdayā€™s event appeared to serve as a date night for Trumpā€™s eldest daughter and his former adviser after they attended his Mar-a-Lago Christmas gala earlier this week alongside their three kids. The pair kept it casual for the gatheringā€”Kushner wore a dark-teal button-down and black slacks, while Trump donned a brown suede dress, a tan leather jacket, and a pair of high-heel boots. Page Six reported that actor Kevin Costner also made an appearance at the party after being spotted earlier with Jennifer Lopez at a different nearby spot, although she was not at the Amazon founderā€™s event. Bezos and his fianceĢe Lauren Sanchez shot down rumors last week that they had married in the same resort town where the gathering was held. Two Sasquatch hunters were found dead after they went missing while searching for the mythical beast on Christmas Eve . The men, aged 37 and 59, were found after a 60-strong volunteer search and rescue team joined authorities in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington State . They had intended to be home for Christmas Day, but a family member reported them missing to Skamania County authorities after they didnā€™t return by the morning. Police said the harsh weather conditions and their ill-preparedness for the forest contributed to the menā€™s deaths. Seven law enforcement agencies and the Coast Guard used canines, drones, ground teams and helicopters to locate them. ā€œTheir exhaustive search efforts resulted in bringing family members home to their loved ones,ā€ the sheriffā€™s office said of the search teams. The force extended their ā€œdeepest sympathies and condolences to the familiesā€ involved. Scouted selects products independently. Itā€™s the perfect way to toast 2025 with sophistication, flavor, and an energy boost. Think you canā€™t make the buzzy beverage at home because youā€™re not a bartender? Think again. You can create this beloved cocktail effortlessly with just a cocktail shaker, fresh espresso, vodka, coffee beans, and Mr Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur . It all starts in the land Down Underā€”Australia. Mr Black sources its ingredients, including 100 percent specialty-grade Arabica coffee, from local farmers and cooperatives. The liqueur is then slowly brewed with purified cold water to preserve its delicate, complex flavors. The result? A bittersweet masterpiece with bold flavor, balanced sweetness, and a lasting coffee kick. Its rich, coffee-forward taste is a crowd-pleaser, and the sleek bottle design adds a touch of elegance to any bar cart. Making an espresso martini is simple. Combine Mr Black , vodka, and freshly brewed espresso in a shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously until cold. Then, strain the mixture into a martini glass and finish with three coffee beans as a garnish. Skip the champagne toast this year and ensure you stay awake for the countdown to 2025 with a Mr Black espresso martini. Andy Cohenā€™s biggest gripe with CNN star and New Yearā€™s Eve partner-in-crime Anderson Cooper? Cooperā€™s annual giggle fit. Cohen explained to People why the anchorā€™s unceasing laughter adds extra chaos throughout their annual special. ā€œWell, [itā€™s] that I have to be the straight guy,ā€ Cohen said. ā€œLiterally, heā€™s in a puddle of giggles for the last 90 minutes of the broadcast, and Iā€™m the one thatā€™s hitting all the commercial breaks.ā€ Cohen said he turns ā€œinto Mr. CNN for the last 90 minutesā€ while Cooper becomes ā€œMr. Bravo.ā€ ā€œItā€™s a very funny role reversal,ā€ the Bravo star said. The longtime friends have hosted the CNN event together since 2017 after former co-host Kathy Griffin was booted in the wake of backlash for posing with a mask depicting the severed head of Donald Trump. Cohen and Cooper have found themselves in various antics since thenā€” some alcoholic , some not ā€”leading to Cooperā€™s own frustrations with the Bravo host. Cooper joked on Cohenā€™s Watch What Happens Live earlier this month that he constantly worries about ā€œwho [Cohenā€™s] gonna insult and what the clean up on aisle 3 is gonna be in the morning.ā€ Billionaire businessman Charles Dolan, who founded HBO and Cablevision and whose family owns Madison Square Garden and a number of New York City sports teams, died on Saturdayā€”he was 98. Dolan created Cablevision Systems Corporation in 1973, merging several small Long Island cable TV systems, according to the New York Times . At the time, the company served just 1,500 customers. But when he sold it for $17.7 billion in 2015, it supplied cable TV to over three million households in the New York metropolitan area, the Times reported. He also launched HBO in the early ā€™70sā€”it was at the time a pioneering cable TV channel that offered feature-length movies with no commercials. After his death, Dolanā€™s family will continue to be a powerful and influential force in the worlds of media and sports. His son Patrick is the owner of Newsday , the Long Island-based newspaper he and Charles bought in 2016. The family also owns MSG in New York City and the professional sports teams that play there, the NHLā€™s Rangers and the NBAā€™s Knicks. All three entities are led by Dolanā€™s son James.Kobe Sanders tied a season high with 27 points as Nevada claimed fifth place in the Charleston Classic with a 90-78 victory over Oklahoma State Sunday afternoon in South Carolina. Sanders helped the Wolfpack (6-1) earn a second win following one-possession games against Vanderbilt and VCU. After hitting the decisive 3-pointer with five seconds left in Friday's 64-61 win over VCU, Sanders made 7 of 10 shots, hit three 3s and sank 10 of 13 free throws Sunday. Nick Davidson added 223 points as Nevada led by as many as 19 and shot 58.9 percent. Brandon Love contributed 11 on 5-of-5 shooting as the Wolfpack scored 46 points in the paint and scored at least 85 for the fourth time this season. Marchelus Avery led the Cowboys (4-2) with 15 points and Arturo Dean added 13. Robert Jennings and Abou Ousmane added 11 apiece but leading scorer Bryce Thompson was held to seven points on 1-of-9 shooting as Oklahoma State shot 42 percent and 73.2 percent (30-of-41) at the line. After Avery's 3 forged a 12-12 tie with 13:41 remaining, Nevada gradually gained separation. The Wolfpack took a 24-15 lead on Chuck Bailey's jumper in the paint with 8:28 left but the Cowboys inched back, getting within 33-31 on a dunk by Avery with 4:11 left. Another Bailey jumper staked Nevada to a 40-33 lead by halftime. Nevada began pulling away early in the second half as it scored eight in a row for a 52-40 lead on a basket by Love with 16:44 left. A 3 by Sanders opened a 62-43 lead with 14:06 remaining before Oklahoma State charged back. After Nevada made eight straight shots, the Cowboys countered with 11 straight points and trailed 62-54 with 11:19 left on a 3-pointer by Avery. Thompson made his first basket by sinking a jumper with 10:37 left to get Oklahoma State within 64-56 left, and Keller's triple cut the margin to 70-64 nearly three minutes later. The Cowboys were within 78-72 on a basket by Avery with 3:56 remaining, but he fouled out about a minute later and the Wolfpack outscored Oklahoma State 12-6 the rest of the way as Sanders sank five free throws. --Field Level Mediamó„m>·Ķ¶łÕ6”}ŗļž<}j›G ~m›ļmó‡ Ž0¾M•k0„Y‹\" ę2•AJA3tčÉ%,+.°>'VuūzU;ź;Ą“^5†õ8¹ĶX9Ń…ĪIĒ“>W='O^\_I–”öi<1&üyh ¶~žŅFś ©Mē¬ *ĀMĒÅĢs~½"±äb UśŅo'G#ūµĖ)¬W;™¢"Avō żP’Āņ–2GiP¶Ż6 ‚‹;Ē§[Ō3.Fc˜ć€‚

Watch Sleuths of Seoul on SBS On Demand . Sleuths Of Seoul Content warning: This article contains descriptions of physical assault and references to sexual assault. It was known as the Busan Roundhouse Kick Case, and it rocked South Korean society and notions of justice to the core. In the early hours of 22 May 2022, the victim ā€” who uses the alias Jin-ju ā€” was returning home after an evening out with a friend. She entered her complex foyer and pressed the elevator button to head up to her apartment. Jin-juā€™s next memory was waking up in a hospital bed, badly beaten and suffering serious injuries to her head and brain. "I heard I had been beaten by a stranger, and that was all I knew," Jin-ju says. CCTV footage would later show in graphic detail what happened to her. A man had followed her into the apartment building, approached her from behind and launched into a full roundhouse kick to Jin-juā€™s head. She fell to the ground and he continued to pummel her. As she lay unconscious, the assailant picked her up and carried her to a CCTV blind spot. It wasnā€™t until the man's trial that she first heard she may have been sexually assaulted. Source: SBS The missing footage Even though she was the victim in the case, Jin-ju felt strangely disconnected from the process. "It felt like I didnā€™t belong in this case," she says. "I didn't know what kind of incident I had been involved in." As the trial began, her sense of estrangement from the case only deepened. Noh re-enacts murder cases for fun. But South Korea's crime obsession has a dark side "It just made no sense from beginning to end. The attacker could have free legal representation, but I didnā€™t. I am still in debt because of it." To access the trial records, Jin-ju had to file a civil lawsuit, which exposed her personal details including her home address to her attacker. Months later, he made verbal threats against Jin-ju and her family. "There was no protection for me when I saw the attacker in court. I felt like just part of the audience." "It feels like the judicial system just doesnā€™t care about my life," she says. "Korea is a country where itā€™s hard to live as a victim." Source: SBS It was only when sitting in court that Jin-ju learned of a missing seven minutes in CCTV coverage when sheā€™d been carried to the camera blind spot ā€” the first mention she may have been sexually assaulted. "I had no idea. No one told me about it," she says. "There was no protection for victims in this and it seemed like I was seen to be more of an obstruction to the trial process." Jin-juā€™s attacker was eventually sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder ā€” eight years less than the term sought by the prosecution. The main reason: the judge wouldnā€™t consider the possibility of sexual assault. The TV show Jin-ju had taken the case as far as she could in the courts, but felt true justice had still not been delivered. So she had to look elsewhere for the justice she sought. "I wrote a petition to a true crime TV show called ā€˜Want to Know Thatā€™. I wasnā€™t trying to make up a crime that didnā€™t exist but was trying to show the most likely motive for attempted murder was attempted sexual assault and that DNA testing was needed." Source: SBS Want to Know That is South Koreaā€™s most popular true-crime investigation TV program. The weekly show breaks down past and active crimes and actively accepts tips from viewers. Itā€™s just one of dozens of true crime TV shows on national TV and online, all riding a wave of fascination with true crime in South Korea. The show has a huge female audience, believed to be because South Korea has a higher ratio of female victims of violent crime than many other nations, including Western countries. In 2020, women accounted for 44.8 per cent of homicide victims in South Korea, compared with 20 per cent in the United States and around 30 per cent in Australia, according to statistics from the Korean National Police Agency. The appeal Want to Know That carried out its own forensic investigation of Jin-juā€™s case, looking into the possibility she was sexually assaulted. The episode, which aired in April 2023, sparked public outrage and calls for the case to be reviewed. Jin-ju filed for an appeal. The attacker had already appealed his sentence and during those hearings the judge buckled to public pressure and allowed for more extensive DNA testing. 'I had to act like a doll': Why some K-pop stars are rebelling against the industry's 'impossible' standards In September that year, the Busan High Court handed the attacker a heftier 20-year sentence, recognising the charge of attempted sexual assault. Jin-ju says it gave her eight more years knowing the attacker couldnā€™t harm her. She believes the TV show influenced the outcome of the appeals hearing. "It changed everything. After the TV show was aired, the judge changed his opinion and agreed to a DNA test," she says. Jin-ju went on to write a book about her ordeal and, in a recent development, her story is set to be made into a film starring Jun Hyo-seong from K-pop girl group Secret. "If it weren't for these shows, I would have probably left this country. Without the media and the prosecutors who helped me, I would not be alive," Jin-ju says. Source: SBS Want to Know That won several awards for its reporting on the case. Producer Kim Jae-hwan says the showā€™s popularity and the fact that victims turn to the media for help in their pursuit of justice stem from public distrust of authorities. "A social atmosphere seems to have formed in which if someone complains of injustice or a systemic problem, the solution is not sought by addressing the inertia of authorities, but rather through the media." South Korean law enforcement officials have requested a court warrant to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol. They are investigating whether his short-lived martial law decree earlier this month amounted to rebellion. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials, which is leading a joint investigation with police and military authorities into the power grab that lasted only a few hours, confirmed it requested the warrant on Monday. Investigators plan to question Mr Yoon on charges of abuse of authority and orchestrating a rebellion. Mr Yoon has dodged several requests by the joint investigation team and public prosecutors to appear for questioning and has also blocked searches of his offices. It is not clear whether the court will grant the warrant or whether Mr Yoon can be compelled to appear for questioning. Under the countryā€™s laws, locations potentially linked to military secrets cannot be seized or searched without the consent of the person in charge and it is unlikely Mr Yoon will voluntarily leave his residence if he faces detainment. Mr Yoonā€™s presidential powers were suspended after the National Assembly voted to impeach him on December 14 over his imposition of martial law that lasted only hours but has triggered weeks of political turmoil, halted high-level diplomacy and rattled financial markets. His fate lies with the Constitutional Court, which has begun deliberations on whether to uphold the impeachment and formally remove Mr Yoon from office or reinstate him. Mr Yoon has defended the martial law decree as a necessary act of governance, describing it as a warning against the liberal opposition Democratic Party, which has been bogging down his agenda with its majority in the parliament. Parliament voted last week to also impeach Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who had assumed the role of acting president after Mr Yoonā€™s powers were suspended, over his reluctance to fill three Constitutional Court vacancies ahead of the courtā€™s review of Mr Yoonā€™s case. The countryā€™s new interim leader is Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok, who is also finance minister.Alta Global Group Request for Withdrawal of Registration Statement on Form F-1

WASHINGTON (AP) ā€” A machinists strike. Another safety problem involving its troubled top-selling airliner. A plunging stock price. 2024 was already a dispiriting year for Boeing, the American aviation giant. But when one of the company's jets crash-landed in South Korea on Sunday, killing all but two of the 181 people on board, it brought to a close an especially unfortunate year for Boeing. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and aviation experts were quick to distinguish Sunday's incident from the companyā€™s earlier safety problems. Alan Price, a former chief pilot at Delta Air Lines who is now a consultant, said it would be inappropriate to link the incident Sunday to two fatal crashes involving Boeingā€™s troubled 737 Max jetliner in 2018 and 2019. In January this year, a door plug blew off a 737 Max while it was in flight, raising more questions about the plane. The Boeing 737-800 that crash-landed in Korea, Price noted, is ā€œa very proven airplane. "Itā€™s different from the Max ...Itā€™s a very safe airplane.ā€™ā€™ For decades, Boeing has maintained a role as one of the giants of American manufacturing. But the the past year's repeated troubles have been damaging. The company's stock price is down more than 30% in 2024. The company's reputation for safety was especially tarnished by the 737 Max crashes, which occurred off the coast of Indonesia and in Ethiopia less than five months apart in 2018 and 2019 and left a combined 346 people dead. In the five years since then, Boeing has lost more than $23 billion. And it has fallen behind its European rival, Airbus, in selling and delivering new planes. Last fall, 33,000 Boeing machinists went on strike, crippling the production of the 737 Max, the company's bestseller, the 777 airliner and 767 cargo plane. The walkout lasted seven weeks, until members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers agreed to an offer that included 38% pay raises over four years. In January, a door plug blew off a 737 Max during an Alaska Airlines flight. Federal regulators responded by imposing limits on Boeing aircraft production that they said would remain in place until they felt confident about manufacturing safety at the company. In July, Boeing agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud for deceiving the Federal Aviation Administration regulators who approved the 737 Max. Acting on Boeingā€™s incomplete disclosures, the FAA approved minimal, computer-based training instead of more intensive training in flight simulators. Simulator training would have increased the cost for airlines to operate the Max and might have pushed some to buy planes from Airbus instead. (Prosecutors said they lacked evidence to argue that Boeingā€™s deception had played a role in the crashes.) But the plea deal was rejected this month by a federal judge in Texas, Reed Oā€™Connor , who decided that diversity, inclusion and equity or DEI policies in the government and at Boeing could result in race being a factor in choosing an official to oversee Boeingā€™s compliance with the agreement. Boeing has sought to change its culture. Under intense pressure over safety issues, David Calhoun departed as CEO in August. Kobe Sanders tied a season high with 27 points as Nevada claimed fifth place in the Charleston Classic with a 90-78 victory over Oklahoma State Sunday afternoon in South Carolina. --Field Level MediaVikings right guard Dalton Risner says heā€™ll continue to get better at new positionAurora Holiday Food Drive moves into its final days

What we know about South Korea's martial law

One of the biggest surprises in the Maharashtra elections is the complete political turnaround between the 2024 Lok Sabha and assembly elections. The Maharashtra Vikas Agadi (MVA) won 30 out of the 48 parliamentary constituencies (PCs) in the state in the Lok Sabha elections. It has won just 49 out of the 288 assembly constituencies (ACs) in the assembly elections. What explains this? HT has already pointed out that the Lok Sabha seat share was not useful in understanding the nature of the contest in the assembly elections in the state. Vote share of the MVA and the Mahayuti was much closer even in the Lok Sabha, the respective numbers being 43.9% and 43.5%. In fact, even the seat share gap, once broken down at the AC-level was much smaller than the PC-wise numbers. The biggest factor behind the assembly election results is the Mahayuti taking a massive lead in terms of vote share over the MVA, the respective numbers being 51.3% and 35.4% respectively. What created this vote share gap between the two alliances? HT has compared AC-wise vote shares for Lok Sabha and assembly elections to explain this better. The MVA lost vote share between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections in 242 ACs while the Mahayuti gained vote share in 235 ACs between these two elections . In 121 ACs, the MVAā€™s loss of vote share was more than 10 percentage points, and it was more than five percentage points in 188 ACs. The Mahayuti gained more than 10 percentage points in terms of vote share in 73 ACs and more than five percentage points in 120 ACs. A sub-region wise analysis of change in vote shares shows that this is a pan-state phenomenon. What role did the this change in vote share play in the results? Mahayuti increased its vote share in 138 ACs which it could not win in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and in 66 of them this increase was more than the victory margin. The MVA lost vote share in 141 ACs which it had won in the Lok Sabha elections and in all of them the change was more than the victory margin in the Lok Sabha. To be sure, Lok Sabha and assembly elections are different in nature and local factors and actors are more salient in the latter. What role did the local actors, who were aligned neither to the MVA nor the Mahayuti, play in these elections? The Non-MVA non-Mahayuti vote share increased and decreased in 121 and 167 ACs compared to the Lok Sabha elections. Out of the 167 ACs where others saw a fall in vote share between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, the MVA won 80 in the Lok Sabha and the Mahayuti 78. MVAā€™s vote share came down in 125 of these 167 ACs and the Mahayuti has won 144 of these in the assembly elections. This means that the Mahayuti gained at the cost of both the MVA and non-aligned actors. Of the 121 ACs where others gained vote share between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, the MVA won 73 while the Mahayuti did just 48 ACs in the Lok Sabha elections. The Mahayuti has gained vote share in 79 of these 121 ACs while the MVA has lost vote share in 117 of these. The Mahayuti has won 92 of these 121 ACs in the assembly elections while the MVA has managed to win just 26. These numbers show that the Mahayutiā€™s landslide victory is a result of it winning voters from both the MVA and the non-aligned camp. The MVA on the other hand lost voters to both the Mahayuti and the fence sitters who were happy to support it during the Lok Sabha elections.McLean, Duax lead FGCU over Florida International 60-59

Nebraska football signing day preview: Potential flips and a 5-star up for grabsMontana lawmakers narrowly voted down a proposal Tuesday that would have banned transgender women from using the womenā€™s bathroom reserved for legislators between the House and Senate chambers. The biennial legislative session starts in January and legislators were meeting to propose changes to the rules that will dictate how they operate over the 90-day term. While the amendment to the joint rules that govern both the House and Senate garnered an 11-7 vote of support from senators on the Joint Rules Committee, it failed among House members 10-12. The proposal needed to pass both chambers separately to advance. Support came only from majority Republicans, while all minority Democrats and a handful of GOP lawmakers opposed the idea. ā€œWe donā€™t need this distraction,ā€ said Republican Rep. David Bedey, of Hamilton, before he voted against the amendment. The proposed change was brought by Rep. Jerry Schillinger, a Republican from Circle. Over the last several legislative sessions, GOP lawmakers have brought a handful of bills that would limit the ability of transgender Montanans to update their driver's licenses, block trans girls from playing on girlsā€™ school sports teams and more. In the 2023 session, operations on the House floor ground to a halt when one of the state's first trans lawmakers, Rep. Zooey Zephyr, D-Missoula, was blocked from speaking when the Republican speaker censured her after comments she made on a bill to ban gender-affirming care for minors. The at least a dozen states have some sort of laws related to blocking transgender people from using the bathrooms that are in line with their gender identities. Most recently, a federal representative introduced a resolution to ban transgender women from using women's bathrooms in the U.S. Capitol. Bedey said Tuesday he felt a change to the rules was unnecessary. ā€œI do think that taking this particular action is a distraction from us doing our duties. We have a reasonable accommodation that we put in place. This particular action will have the effect of making people famous in the national news and will not contribute to the effective conduct of our business,ā€ Bedey said. Rep. Jed Hinkle, a Republican from Belgrade, said last session there were locks on the bathroom doors between the Senate and House chambers and people could lock the door if they were uncomfortable. But he also said he knew of ā€œmultiple womenā€ who did not use the bathroom and instead went to one across the Capitol building. ā€œIt may have worked for some females who were comfortable, but there are a number of females in both chambers who are not comfortable,ā€ Hinkle said. Bedey said there was no evidence of people missing votes because they were unable to use the facilities between the House and Senate chambers. The rules package advanced by lawmakers Tuesday will be debated and voted on by the full House and Senate after the session starts Jan. 6.Have you heard? The Tax Foundation has released its annual State Tax Competitiveness Index, which compares each state on more than 150 variables in five areas of taxation: corporate taxes, individual income taxes, sales and excise taxes, property and wealth taxes, and unemployment insurance taxes. The authors said states landing near the bottom of the rankings tend to have several issues in common: complex, nonneutral taxes with comparatively high rates. They typically have high and progressive income tax rates; impose harmful gross receipts, capital stock, and bequest taxes; penalize capital investment through poorly designed corporate taxes; and have ill-structured sales tax bases that include a disproportionate share of business inputs. Illinois ranked 37th overall and near the bottom in the corporate, unemployment insurance and property tax categories. Senior Policy Analyst Andrey Yushkov said Illinois ranks 13th in individual taxes, but if the so-called ā€œmillionaires tax,ā€ which was approved by voters in a non binding question on Election Day, is put into place, the state will slip in the rankings. ā€œIf this additional 3% surtax on millionaires is ultimately implemented and the constitution of the state is changed, then weā€™ll detrimentally affect the tax competitiveness in this particular category,ā€ said Yushkov. According to the study, the top three tax-friendly states are Wyoming, South Dakota and Alaska. New York came in last place, followed by New Jersey and California. ā€œThe index rewards states for structurally sound, pro-growth tax policies, making it a useful tool for policymakers who want their statesā€™ tax systems to be welcoming to business and human capital,ā€ said Yushkov.South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday said he would lift martial law just hours after he imposed it, in a brief and confusing episode in which he blasted the opposition as "anti-state forces" threatening the country's democracy. The unexpected move from Yoon ā€” the first time martial law has been declared in South Korea in more than four decades ā€” alarmed the United States and the country's other allies. What do we know about the imposition, its lifting and what might come next?

Chargers defense: overall (11), rush (11), pass (12), scoring (1). Turnover differential: Ravens plus-2; Chargers plus-8. K Justin Tucker missed two field goals last week and is under pressure after spending most of his career beyond reproach. Heā€™s missed six field goals on the season and is 4 for 12 from 50-plus yards since the start of last season. WR Ladd McConkey had a career-high 123 yards on six receptions against Cincinnati. The rookie came up with clutch catches of 28 and 27 yards to set up the game-winning touchdown. Chargers RB J.K. Dobbins vs. Ravensā€™ run defense. Dobbins showed promise during his time in Baltimore, but he never was able to live up to that potential because of injuries. Now in Los Angeles on a one-year ā€œprove itā€ contract, Dobbins has nearly matched his most productive season as a professional with 726 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games. After seeing Pittsburgh run the ball 34 times last week, the Chargers will be glad to copy that bruising approach with Dobbins. The Ravens are allowing 77.5 rushing yards per game, but even the sturdiest defense can buckle against that volume of work, so getting off the field will be critical. Baltimoreā€™s defense has one significant injury concern, with LB Roquan Smith (hamstring) questionable to go this week after he was hurt against the Steelers. The good news is S Kyle Hamilton does not have an injury designation. He has been nursing an ankle problem, although he played against Pittsburgh. ... Chargers OLB Khalil Mack (groin) is questionable after the veteran pass rusher didnā€™t play against Cincinnati. ... McConkey is also questionable because of a shoulder injury. The Ravens have won four straight over the Chargers in the regular season, but Los Angeles did earn a 23-17 AFC wild-card round upset in January 2019. ... Baltimore cruised to a 34-6 win over the Chargers in its first visit to SoFi Stadium on Oct. 17, 2021. Ravens RB Derrick Henry leads the NFL with 1,185 yards rushing and 15 total TDs (13 rushing and two receiving). Heā€™s also run for a league-high 52 first downs. ... Henry is one rushing TD shy of the Ravensā€™ single-season record, set by Jamal Lewis in 2003. ... Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson is 6-2 on ā€œMonday Night Footballā€ with 20 TD passes and no interceptions. ... Henry is one of four players in the Super Bowl era to score a TD in each of the first 11 games of a season. The others are O.J. Simpson (1975), John Riggins (1983) and Jerry Rice (1987). ... The Ravens have scored touchdowns on a league-best 77.8% of their red zone trips. ... Jackson needs 124 yards passing and 16 yards rushing for a second consecutive season with 3,000 passing and 600 rushing. Since the AFL-NFL merger, only Randall Cunningham (1988-1990), Cam Newton (2011-12), Josh Allen (2021-22) and Jalen Hurts (2021-23) have accomplished that feat. ... Dobbins ran for two touchdowns against Cincinnati, giving him multiple scores in two of his past three games. He did it twice in 24 games as a Raven. ... OLB Tuli Tuipulotu had 1 1/2 sacks of Bengals QB Joe Burrow, his third straight game with more than one. All seven of Tuipulotuā€™s sacks this season have come in the past four games, and six of his eight tackles for loss have come in that span. ... The Chargers allowed a season-worst 27 points to Cincinnati after holding each of their previous nine opponents to 20 points or fewer. ... QB Justin Herbert has thrown one interception in 277 attempts this season. That lone pick came in Week 2 at Carolina. ... The Chargers lost their fifth turnover of the season when Herbert fumbled to start the fourth quarter. It was their first turnover at home. ... Los Angeles does not have a takeaway in its past two games. Herbert has heated up after a slow start in terms of fantasy production, having thrown for multiple touchdowns in three of his past four games. He is likely to keep that success going this week. Baltimore has allowed 22 scores through the air, which is tied with Houston for second most in the league, and Herbert should have plenty of chances to add to that total in what could be another high-scoring matchup.
