The Reform UK leader pushed back against reports suggesting that legal action would be the next step, saying he would make a decision in the next couple of days about his response if there is no apology for the “crazy conspiracy theory”. Mr Farage also said the party has “opened up our systems” to media outlets, including The Daily Telegraph and The Financial Times, in the interests of “full transparency to verify that our numbers are correct”. His remarks came after Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch accused Mr Farage of “fakery” in response to Reform claiming they had surpassed the Tories in signed-up members. Mrs Badenoch said Reform’s counter was “coded to tick up automatically”. A digital counter on the Reform website showed a membership tally before lunchtime on Boxing Day ticking past the 131,680 figure declared by the Conservative Party during its leadership election earlier this year. Mr Farage, on whether he was threatening legal action or not, told the PA news agency: “I haven’t threatened anything. I’ve just said that unless I get an apology, I will take some action. “I haven’t said whether it’s legal or anything.” He added: “All I’ve said is I want an apology. If I don’t get an apology, I will take action. “I will decide in the next couple of days what that is. Elon makes us cool – Elon is a huge help to us with the young generation, and that will be the case going on and, frankly, that’s only just starting. “Reform only wins the next election if it gets the youth vote. The youth vote is the key. Of course, you need voters of all ages, but if you get a wave of youth enthusiasm you can change everything. “And I think we’re beginning to get into that zone – we were anyway, but Elon makes the whole task much, much easier. "As the pinnacle of motorsports, F1 demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence. It's an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world's premier racing series, and we're committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world," GM President Mark Reuss said. "This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM's engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level." The approval ends years of wrangling that launched a U.S. Justice Department investigation into why Colorado-based Liberty Media, the commercial rights holder of F1, would not approve the team initially started by Michael Andretti. Andretti in September stepped aside from leading his namesake organization, so the 11th team will be called Cadillac F1 and be run by new Andretti Global majority owners Dan Towriss and Mark Walter. The team will use Ferrari engines its first two years until GM has a Cadillac engine built for competition in time for the 2028 season. People are also reading... The approval has been in works for weeks but was held until after last weekend's Las Vegas Grand Prix to not overshadow the showcase event of the Liberty Media portfolio. Max Verstappen won his fourth consecutive championship in Saturday night's race, the third and final stop in the United States for the top motorsports series in the world. Grid expansion in F1 is both infrequent and often unsuccessful. Four teams were granted entries in 2010 that should have pushed the grid to 13 teams and 26 cars for the first time since 1995. One team never made it to the grid and the other three had vanished by 2017. There is only one American team on the current F1 grid — owned by California businessman Gene Haas — but it is not particularly competitive and does not field American drivers. Andretti's dream was to field a truly American team with American drivers. The fight to add this team has been going on for three-plus years, and F1 initially denied the application despite approval from F1 sanctioning body FIA. The existing 10 teams, who have no voice in the matter, also largely opposed expansion because of the dilution in prize money and the billions of dollars they've already invested in the series. Andretti in 2020 tried and failed to buy the existing Sauber team. From there, he applied for grid expansion and partnered with GM, the top-selling manufacturer in the United States. The inclusion of GM was championed by the FIA and president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who said Michael Andretti's application was the only one of seven applicants to meet all required criteria to expand F1's current grid. "General Motors is a huge global brand and powerhouse in the OEM world and is working with impressive partners," Ben Sulayem said Monday. "I am fully supportive of the efforts made by the FIA, Formula 1, GM and the team to maintain dialogue and work towards this outcome of an agreement in principle to progress this application." Despite the FIA's acceptance of Andretti and General Motors from the start, F1 wasn't interested in Andretti — but did want GM. At one point, F1 asked GM to find another team to partner with besides Andretti. GM refused and F1 said it would revisit the Andretti application if and when Cadillac had an engine ready to compete. "Formula 1 has maintained a dialogue with General Motors, and its partners at TWG Global, regarding the viability of an entry following the commercial assessment and decision made by Formula 1 in January 2024," F1 said in a statement. "Over the course of this year, they have achieved operational milestones and made clear their commitment to brand the 11th team GM/Cadillac, and that GM will enter as an engine supplier at a later time. Formula 1 is therefore pleased to move forward with this application process." Yet another major shift in the debate over grid expansion occurred earlier this month with the announced resignation of Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei, who was largely believed to be one of the biggest opponents of the Andretti entry. The company saw a lot of pull forward in demand during that time, and as a result, revenue growth has been much slower in the proceeding years. That slower growth was also evident in the company's most recent quarter. While its results topped analyst estimates, investors were still looking for more from the company. The stock price fell on news of the results and is now up about 15% on the year (as of this writing). Let's zoom into Zoom's most recent results to see whether the company has the opportunity for a turnaround after the most recent dip in its stock price. Looking to be an AI company For its fiscal 2025 third quarter (ended Oct. 31), Zoom grew its revenue by nearly 4% year over year to $1.18 billion, topping the analyst consensus for revenue of $1.16 billion, as compiled by LSEG. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) climbed 7% to $1.38, coming in ahead of the $1.31 consensus. Zoom has been performing better with large enterprise customers, while it continues to see softness among smaller, largely online self-service customers. This continued in fiscal Q3, with the company seeing enterprise revenue jump nearly 6% year over year to $698.9 million as the number of customers with trailing annual revenue of more than $100,000 increased by 7%. Online revenue, meanwhile, was flattish at $478.7 million. Online average monthly churn was 2.7% in the quarter, which was an all-time low. However, net dollar retention among enterprise customers was only 98%. A number under 100% means the company is seeing more churn or customers reducing spending versus expanding with the company's services. In reaction, the company is introducing a number of artificial intelligence (AI) features. It recently unveiled its AI-first Work Platform designed to help enhance interaction and productivity through AI tools. This includes its Zoom AI Companion 2.0, an AI assistant that can perform tasks such as summarizing conversations, identifying action items, and helping compose messages. Next year, meanwhile, the company plans to introduce Custom AI Companion add-ons for specific industries. In the first half, it will release solutions aimed at the healthcare and education verticals. It will also launch a new platform for frontline workers in the retail, healthcare, and manufacturing industries. Its new Zoom Workplace platform will be able to provide insights and shift summaries to these workers. Some areas do appear to be doing well. One is Workvivo, the collaboration platform it bought last year. The company saw the number of Workvivo customers surge by 72% in the quarter. It is also doing well in the contact center space. The company said it signed its largest-ever contact center deal with a customer -- for 20,000 seats -- in the quarter, and its customer count grew by 82%. One thing the company continued to do well was generate a lot of cash. It produced operating cash flow of $483.2 million in the quarter and free cash flow of $457.7 million. It ended the period with cash and marketable securities of $7.7 billion and no debt. Looking ahead, Zoom increased its fiscal 2025 guidance to a range of $4.656 billion to $4.661 billion in revenue with adjusted EPS of between $5.41 and $5.43. That was up from a prior forecast of adjusted EPS of $5.29 and $5.32 on revenue of between $4.63 billion and $4.64 billion. For fiscal Q4, the company guided for adjusted EPS of between $1.29 and $1.30 on revenue of $1.175 billion to $1.180 billion. Analysts were looking for adjusted EPS of $1.29 and revenue of $1.17 billion. Is it time to buy the dip? Zoom is not exactly an expensive stock, trading a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 15.5 next year's estimates and a forward price-to-sales ratio (P/S) -- a common metric by which software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies are valued -- of just over 5. But with about 30% of its market cap in cash, those valuation metrics are actually a bit overstated. He is now. And who knows? Maybe for a lot longer than expected. Winston entered Cleveland football folklore on Thursday night by leading the Browns to a 24-19 win over the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who had their five-game winning streak stopped. Winston's performance at Huntington Bank Field, which transformed into the world's largest snow globe, not only made him an instantaneous hero in the eyes of Browns fans but added another wrinkle to the team's ever-changing, never-ending quarterback conundrum. In his fourth start since Deshaun Watson's season-ending Achilles tendon injury, Winston made enough big plays to help the Browns (3-8) get a victory that should quiet conjecture about coach Kevin Stefanski's job. Some wins mean more than others. In Cleveland, beating the Steelers is as big as it gets. But beyond any instant gratification, Winston has given the Browns more to consider as they move forward. Watson's future with Cleveland is highly uncertain since it will still be months before the team has a grip on whether he's even an option in 2025, his fourth year since signing a $230 million, fully guaranteed contract that has proven calamitous. It's also possible the Browns will cut ties with Watson. They signed Winston to a one-year contract to be Watson's backup. But the unexpected events of 2024 have changed plans and led to the possibility that the 30-year-old Winston could become Cleveland's full-time QB or a bridge to their next young one. So much is unclear. What's not is that Winston, who leaped into the end zone on fourth-and-2 for a TD to put the Browns ahead 18-6 in the fourth quarter, is a difference maker. With his larger-than-life personality and the joy he shows whether practicing or throwing three touchdown passes, he has lifted the Browns. A man of faith, he's made his teammates believe. Winston has done what Watson couldn't: made the Browns better. “A very, very authentic person,” Stefanski said Friday on a Zoom call. “He’s the same guy every single day. He's the same guy at 5 a.m. as he at 5 p.m. He brings great energy to everything he does, and I think his teammates appreciate that about him.” Winston, who is 2-2 as a starter with wins over the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, has a knack for inspiring through fiery, preacher-like pregame speeches. New spiking offence aims to bring law up to date, minister says
Who Pays The Government?BRASILIA, Brazil -- Supermarket giant Carrefour’s support for French farmers’ protests against a trade agreement between the European Union and the South American bloc Mercosur has sparked a strong reaction in Brazil, including a refusal to supply beef to Carrefour stores in Brazil. Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard announced in social media posts last week that the French company would stop buying beef from all Mercosur countries, which also include Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Bompard wrote that he agrees with French producers' arguments that Mercosur beef is an unfair competitor due to lower production costs resulting from fewer environmental and sanitary requirements. The executive encouraged other retailers to follow suit. Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture called Bompard's move protectionist, saying it was made “without any technical criteria.” The decision also angered Brazil's meatpackers. Though France makes up just a tiny sliver of Brazil’s beef exports, meatpackers worried that Carrefour’s decision would hurt its reputation in other markets. Beef giants JBS and Marfrig halted supplies last Friday to Carrefour's extensive supermarket chain in Brazil, including the food warehouse giant Atacadao. Both companies refused to comment on the boycott to The Associated Press, but Minister of Agriculture Carlos Fávaro confirmed it. “We support the reaction of the meatpackers. If Brazil ́s beef isn’t good enough for Carrefour’s shelves in France, it isn’t good enough for Carrefour’s shelves in Brazil either,” Faváro told Folha de S.Paulo newspaper on Monday. Carrefour Group in Brazil acknowledged the boycott in a statement, though it said there's not yet a shortage of beef in stores. It said it has “esteem and confidence in the Brazilian agricultural sector, with which it maintains a solid relationship and partnership.” “Unfortunately, the decision to suspend the meat supply has an impact on customers, especially those who rely on the company to supply their homes with quality and responsible products,” the statement said. “It is in constant dialogue in search of solutions that will make it possible to resume the supply of meat to its stores as quickly as possible, respecting the commitments it has to its more than 130,000 Brazilian employees and millions of Brazilian customers countrywide.” The backdrop for the conflict is the EU-Mercosur trade deal , which would increase agricultural imports to EU countries from South America. French farmers fear it will affect their livelihoods. An initial agreement was reached in 2019, but negotiations have faltered since then due to opposition that also includes some European governments. Brazil’s agribusiness sector also fears that the pending European Union Deforestation Regulation will outlaw the sale of forest-derived products within the EU’s 27-nation bloc if companies can’t prove their goods are not linked to deforestation. Its scope includes soy and cattle, Brazil’s top agricultural exports. Almost half of the country’s cattle is raised in the Amazon region, where 90% of deforested land since 1985 has turned into pasture, according to MapBiomas, a nonprofit network. Randy Moss announced on Friday that he has been battling cancer, and has undergone successful surgery this week. The Hall of Fame receiver took to Instagram Live on Friday to explain his recent health scare, saying that he had been in the hospital for six days, and was released on Friday. "I am a cancer survivor. Some trying times, of course, but, you know, we made it through. And for that I thank you all," Moss said. During the Live, Moss wore a T-shirt and beanie with "Team Moss" written on it, with a lavender cancer ribbon — the color that represents cancer as a whole — in place of the "o." More merchandise was displayed next to him on the couch, which Moss said was available for sale, with most of the proceeds going to cancer research. Some of the merchandise says "Let's Moss Cancer" — a reference to the football slang term that bears his name. "I want to be able to be a help, you know, to be a voice," Moss said in the Live. ESPN from Sunday NFL Countdown, where he has been an analyst since 2016. The network said that the leave of absence was for health reasons. Moss filled in some of those details on Friday, saying that he had received a stent in his liver on Thanksgiving due to a separate medical issue. While he was receiving the stent, Moss said that doctors discovered cancer cells in his bile duct, between the pancreas and the liver. Moss said he underwent a six-hour surgery in Charlotte this week to remove the cells. The surgery, called a Whipple procedure, is a complex surgery that can have risks; however, Moss said that it was a success. He added that he would still need to undergo chemotherapy and radiation. "Yes it's going to be a tough road with some chemo and radiation, but like I said, man, I'm good," Moss said. Moss also thanked his doctors, family and friends by name, and said that he saw people's prayers and well wishes on social media, including from his former teammates. "I really felt that. The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 16 cents per share. The company posted revenue of $138.8 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $137.1 million. For the current quarter ending in January, nCino expects its per-share earnings to range from 18 cents to 19 cents. The company said it expects revenue in the range of $139.5 million to $141.5 million for the fiscal fourth quarter. The Associated Press called the race for McCormick on Nov. 7, concluding that not enough ballots remained to be counted in areas Casey was winning for him to take the lead. As of Thursday, McCormick led by about 16,000 votes out of almost 7 million ballots counted. That was well within the 0.5% margin threshold to trigger an automatic statewide recount under Pennsylvania law. But no election official expected a recount to change more than a couple hundred votes or so, and Pennsylvania’s highest court dealt Casey a blow when it refused entreaties to allow counties to count mail-in ballots that lacked a correct handwritten date on the return envelope. Casey in the meantime had won efforts to get counties to tabulate thousands of provisional ballots that might otherwise have been thrown out because of an error by an election worker.
