Former champions Muang Thong United will be hoping to continue their return to form when they take on table-topping Bangkok United at home on Saturday night. Bangkok United, for their part, will also be keen to further widen the gap over defending champions Buriram United by claiming three points from their visit to the Kirins. Muang Thong were struggling with their form before they ended a long winless run with a 3-1 victory over Nakhon Pathom United in their last league game on Nov 11. The Kirins are pinning their hopes on national team striker Poramet Arjvilai and Sakesan Ratree, who scored for Thailand in a 1-1 draw with Laos in a Fifa Day friendly last Sunday. While Muang Thong have said they will be content with a draw in Saturday night's game, the Angels coach Totchtawan Sripan is planning to name a strong line-up, gunning for three points. Also tonight, Uthai Thani will be at home to Port who are fresh from their last-64 round victory over former champions BG Pathum United in the FA Cup in midweek. Port coach Rangsan Viwatchaichok is likely to name the same side that took care of the business against the Rabbits for tonight's game. He is hoping for a victory over Uthai Thani to pile pressure on second-ranked Buriram. In the other match tonight, Lamphun Warriors will take on PT Prachuap in Chiang Mai. Four more matches are scheduled to be played on Sunday. Action in the top-flight resumed last night after an 11-day international break.Trump says he can't guarantee tariffs won't raise prices, won't rule out revenge prosecutions

The People's Party Of Canada has seemingly faded from the scene. The party that went by that name has been largely inactive. But the political ferment and fervour once associated with that movement have grown more intense as it has been mimicked by Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre. There is one difference between then and now that could alter that trajectory. The PPC was driven largely by conservatism. It never had a singular leader of its own whose brand was a driving force in itself. The current movement is essentially copycatted by Poilievre. Its future, short-term and long, will depend largely on him. So imagine my bewilderment when Poilievre's mysterious turnaround from Harper to far right came. Most became aware of Poilievre's shortcomings – and continue to compensate for them. Perhaps, they view their leader as a self-regulatory strategy, riding the disciplinary coattails of the more fortunate and experienced politicos. Taken together, within the social self-regulatory process, by which we draw close to others to compensate for our own flaws, the overwhelming evidence suggests that the two leaders and their platforms couldn't possibly be any different. Perhaps the mere presence of Poilievre signals the fall of actual conservatism. But there remains the possibility that should Poilievre be more of an albatross for his party, it would indeed be an irony if he ultimately saved Bernier from another political shellacking. William Perry VictoriaWASHINGTON (AP) — Matt Gaetz withdrew Thursday as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general amid continued fallout over a federal sex trafficking investigation that cast doubt on his ability to be confirmed as the nation's chief federal law enforcement officer. The announcement caps a turbulent eight-day period in which Trump sought to capitalize on his decisive election win to force Senate Republicans to accept provocative selections like Gaetz, who had been investigated by the Justice Department before being tapped last week to lead it. The decision could heighten scrutiny on other controversial Trump nominees, including Pentagon pick Pete Hegseth , who faces sexual assault allegations that he denies. “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” Gaetz, a Florida Republican who one day earlier met with senators in an effort to win their support, said in a statement. “There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1," he added. Trump, in a social media post, said: “I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be Attorney General. He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect. Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!” He did not immediately announce a new selection. Last week, he named personal lawyers Todd Blanche, Emil Bove and D. John Sauer to senior roles in the department. Another possible contender, Matthew Whitaker, was announced Wednesday as the U.S. ambassador to NATO. The withdrawal, just a week after the pick was announced, averts what was shaping up to be a pitched confirmation fight that would have tested how far Senate Republicans were willing to go to support Trump’s Cabinet picks. The selection of the fierce Trump ally over well-regarded veteran lawyers whose names had circulated as possible contenders stirred concern for the Justice Department's independence at a time when Trump has openly threatened to seek retribution against political adversaries. It underscored the premium Trump places on personal loyalty and reflected the president-elect's desire to have a disruptor lead a Justice Department that for years investigated and ultimately indicted him. In the Senate, deeply skeptical lawmakers sought more information about Justice Department and congressional investigations into sex trafficking allegations involving underage girls, which Gaetz has denied. Meanwhile, Justice Department lawyers were taken aback by the pick of a partisan lawmaker with limited legal experience who has echoed Trump's claims of a weaponized criminal justice system. As Gaetz sought to lock down Senate support, concern over the sex trafficking allegations showed no signs of abating. In recent days, an attorney for two women said his clients told House Ethics Committee investigators that Gaetz paid them for sex on multiple occasions beginning in 2017, when Gaetz was a Florida congressman. One of the women testified she saw Gaetz having sex with a 17-year-old at a party in Florida in 2017, according to the attorney, Joel Leppard. Leppard has said that his client testified she didn’t think Gaetz knew the girl was underage, stopped their relationship when he found out and did not resume it until after she turned 18. The age of consent in Florida is 18. "They’re grateful for the opportunity to move forward with their lives,” Leppard said Thursday of his clients. “They’re hoping that this brings final closure for all the parties involved.” Gaetz has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. The Justice Department’s investigation ended last year with no charges against him. Gaetz’s political future is uncertain. He had abruptly resigned his congressional seat upon being selected as attorney general, a move seen as a way to shut down the ethics investigation into sexual misconduct allegations. He did win reelection in November for the new Congress, which convenes Jan. 3, 2025, but he said in his resignation letter last week that he did not intend to take the oath of office. There are plans for a special election in Florida for his seat. Republicans on the House Ethics Committee declined this week to release the panel's findings, over objections from Democrats in a split vote. But the committee did agree to finish its work and is scheduled to meet again Dec. 5 to discuss the matter. As word of Gaetz's decision spread across the Capitol, Republican senators seemed divided. Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin, who served with Gaetz in the House, called it a “positive move." Maine Sen. Susan Collins said Gaetz “put country first and I am pleased with his decision.” Others said they had hoped Gaetz could have overhauled the department. Florida Sen. Rick Scott, a close ally of Trump, said he was “disappointed. I like Matt and I think he would have changed the way DOJ is run.” Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said he hopes Trump will pick someone “equally as tenacious and equally as committed to rooting out and eliminating bias and politicization at the DOJ.” Gaetz is not the only Trump pick facing congressional scrutiny over past allegations. A detailed investigative police report made public Wednesday shows that a woman told police that she was sexually assaulted in 2017 by Hegseth, the former Fox News host now tapped to lead the Pentagon, after he took her phone, blocked the door to a California hotel room and refused to let her leave. “The matter was fully investigated and I was completely cleared,” Hegseth told reporters Thursday at the Capitol, where he was meeting with senators to build support for his nomination. Kumily town in idukki, which has been famous for its spices and crunchy banana chips, has now become a hub for the sale of Kerala State lottery tickets. With Sabarimala pilgrims and the tourists visiting the town stocking up on lottery tickets, the town now has over 50 lottery shops. Some of these shops remain open round the clock during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season. Chakravarthi, a lottery shop owner at Kumily, said there was a growing interest among visitors to buy lottery tickets. “Tourists, Sabarimala pilgrims and even foreigners are eager to purchase lottery tickets. Such lotteries are not available in many places and so people buy them with great enthusiasm,’‘ he said. Bumper sales Among the most sought-after of the tickets is the one for the Christmas bumper, priced at ₹400. “Every day I sell 20-25 Christmas bumper tickets,” Mr. Chakravarthi said. According to local lottery shop owners, a significant share of customers comes from Tamil Nadu. Many shops report selling more than 1,000 tickets a day, with long queues found in front of the shops during the pilgrimage season. “During this period, shops open early in the morning and run until late in the night. Some even operate round the clock,” one shopkeeper said. Sreeram, a Sabarimala pilgrim from Trichy in Tamil Nadu, shared his experience. “Lottery tickets are not available in Tamil Nadu, so I bought one from here out of curiosity. I’m trying my luck with this Kerala government-owned product,” he said with a smile. The surge in lottery sales has also turned Kumily into a lucrative destination for shop owners. Muhammed Rajali, a shopkeeper who leases his space for selling lottery tickets, revealed the economics behind it. “I rent out my shop for ₹1,000 a day with a security deposit of ₹3 lakh. This demand has turned Kumily into a thriving lottery hub,” Mr. Rajali said. With the increased interest in lottery tickets, Kumily has also become a must-stop destination for tourists and pilgrims alike. Tharimmune Announces $2.02 Million Private Placement to Advance Development ProgramsDade Phelan, the two-time Republican speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, announced Friday he will not seek a third term, stepping aside amid criticism from within his own party. The speaker faced significant backlash after initiating a failed impeachment of Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton . During a May runoff race, Phelan’s opponent, Dave Covey, received endorsements from Paxton, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and President-elect Donald Trump. “By stepping aside, I believe we create the best opportunity for our members to rally around a new candidate who will uphold the principles that make our House one of the most exceptional, deliberative legislative bodies in the country—a place where honor, integrity, and the right of every member to vote their district takes utmost precedent,” Phelan wrote in a statement . Republican State Reps. Dustin Burrows and David Cook are now the leading contenders for the speakership. Burrows has faced his own criticism, particularly regarding transgender medical treatments for minors. Paxton attacked Burrows as Phelan’s handpicked candidate and a representative of the “Austin establishment.” (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Prominent Police Organization Throws Support Behind Kristi Noem In Confirmation Process) During his tenure as the Calendars Committee chairman in the 87th Legislature, Burrows was accused of allowing bills that would have banned certain “gender-affirming” medical procedures for minors to die in committee. One such bill, House Bill 1399 , which would have prohibited such procedures for individuals under 18, remained on the General State Calendar until the legislative session’s end. Jeff Younger, a Texas resident and independent writer whose ex-wife is raising his son as a girl , criticized Burrows, arguing that the state was delayed in preventing children from undergoing sex change surgeries.
