Leveraging technology to offer innovative services is the key to engaging customers, he says. MTA Energy, for example, sits in the sector’s top 25 out of 80 players in the market. Since it took on its first customers in 2020, demand has been so brisk that the company has doubled revenue every year since then, propelling it onto the AFR’s Fast 100 List this year. The founders, energy experts Gareth Mann and James Groombridge, recognised that there was a gap in the market to work with multi-site businesses with complex energy needs. MTA Energy now works with industrial businesses such as Bingo Industries, Capral Aluminium and Team Global Express as well as consumer retailers such as Best & Less and TK Maxx. Each has multiple complex site portfolios, some with more than 100 sites and large distribution centres nationally. “MTA Energy has found a unique niche,” says George. “These medium-sized businesses were willing to take some market exposure on the wholesale electricity market in order to be able to access a higher standard of service and a better-quality relationship with a retailer. Dolly Parton is working 9 to 5 to cast her musical. The singer, 78; her manager, Danny Nozell; and ATG Productions announced on Thursday that “ Dolly: An Original Musical ” has launched a nationwide casting search. The Broadway show, previously titled “Hello, I’m Dolly,” will follow Parton’s life and career over the decades. The star explained the open casting call and audition process in a video posted to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. “I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway — and maybe even play me!” Parton said, encouraging hopefuls to try out for the musical. “This show is a celebration of my music, my life and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way,” she continued. “We’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey, whether you’re an experienced theater professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something.” According to the press release, casting agents are looking for “performers of all ages to portray Parton at different stages of her incredible life.” Applicants must record a one-minute video of themselves singing their favorite Parton song and post it to social media with the tag #SearchForDolly. Applicants must also complete an application form on the musical’s site. Dolly hopefuls have until 11:59 p.m. ET, Jan. 12, 2025, to send in their auditions. The show will then invite any promising applicants to New York City for a formal audition process. Parton’s casting plea comes on the heels of her brother David Parton’s death at 82 last month. Dolly’s sister Stella Parton shared the sad news on social media on Friday, Nov. 15. “My brother David passed away peacefully this morning,” Stella, 75, wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “It’s never easy to say goodbye to a loved one but he got his angel wings and is now at peace. “My brother David was always referred to as sweet David because of his kindness, loyalty and soft spoken demeanor. He was also a US Marine,” Stella wrote in a second tweet. On Facebook , she noted, “It’s never easy to lose a loved one. My wonderful brother David Parton passed in the early hours of the morning.” A follow-up post read, “Thank you for all your kind thoughts to my family as we continue to grieve the loss of our much loved and cherished oldest brother David.” David’s obituary indicated that he passed away at his home in White Pine, Tennessee. His funeral was held shortly afterward, at Leadvale Baptist Church. Parton has yet to publicly comment on her brother’s passing. David was a retired bridge builder superintendent for Simpson Construction. He worked on the bridges in the Kingsport, Johnson City and Knoxville areas. David was the second-oldest of the 11 Parton kids. His living brothers and sisters include Willadeene, 84; Coy, 81; Dolly; Robert Jr., 76; Stella, Cassie; 73, Freida, 67; and Rachel, 65. Three of the Parton siblings, Randy, Larry and Floyd, predeceased him. Dolly Parton did comment on the passing of Randy, from cancer at age 67 in 2021. “The family and I are grieving his loss, but we know he is in a better place than we are at this time,” the country icon wrote in her Facebook statement. “We are a family of faith, and we believe that he is with God and that he is joined by members of the family that have gone on before and have welcomed him with joy and open arms.”Chief ‘disappointed’ to see clean water used as a political ‘tactic’ by Conservatives
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's brief imposition of martial law marks a new warning for the worldwide fragility of democracy, even in a country hailed as a model of political transformation. Yoon's overnight attempt to shut down political activity, censor media and lock out opposition lawmakers stunned South Korea's longtime ally, the United States, which said it had no advance warning and issued a statement of concern. South Korea's transition to elected rule since a mass uprising in 1987 had been seen as so thorough that the United States increasingly spoke of its ally as a global partner. Meanwhile, Seoul billed itself as a new, ideal hub for international media as China clamped down on Hong Kong. President Joe Biden had even chosen Yoon as the host in March of his final Summit for Democracy -- a signature initiative of the outgoing US leader, who sought to champion liberal values globally, in an unstated repudiation of Donald Trump, who returns to the White House next month. But observers, while stunned by Yoon, said there were warning signs. Danny Russel, a top US diplomat for Asia under former president Barack Obama and who earlier served in South Korea, pointed to the deadlock in parliament where the opposition repeatedly sought impeachments against Yoon's administration. Yoon's move "was a complete surprise to me (but) yes, there were very obvious structural forces at work," he said. "There is a radically polarized political scene in Korea. The opposition has been pursuing scorched-earth political obstruction tactics," he said. But he pointed to the quick, large-scale protests that erupted after Yoon's declaration as a sign of a vibrant civil society ready to defend democracy. "One certainly would hope that this would serve as a wake-up call to both the ruling conservative party and the progressive opposition that both sides have gone too far and that there needs to be some process of reconciliation, of dealing with legitimate differences and grievances." Yoon himself had earlier shown signs of authoritarianism. In a national address last year, Yoon raged against supposed communists who have "disguised themselves as democracy activists, human rights advocates or progressive activists." A prosecutor, Yoon narrowly won the 2022 election on a platform of economic reform and advocated close ties with the United States as well as historic rival Japan. But his popularity swiftly slid and the opposition won the National Assembly. Celeste Arrington, a Korea expert at George Washington University, noted that Yoon had never held elected office before and had become increasingly frustrated. More from this section "This is really an extreme move that may signal, I think, the president's lack of political experience," she said. She said that martial law showed "some cracks in democracy" but that the quick reversal "gives me hope in the health and strength and vibrancy of democracy in South Korea." Bruce Klingner, a senior research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, expected Yoon's career to be over after attempting martial law, which constitutionally can only be imposed for wars or other emergencies. "Yoon's action is a damning reversal to decades of South Korean efforts to put its authoritarian past behind it," he said. The number of democracies worldwide soared starting in the late 1980s as the Soviet Union collapsed and student-led uprisings brought reforms elsewhere. But globally, democracy has been in retreat for the last 18 straight years, according to the Washington-based group Freedom House, which promotes political liberty. Democratically elected leaders have taken increasingly authoritarian steps in countries as diverse as India, Turkey and Hungary. V-Dem, another closely watched democracy index, had most recently ranked South Korea third in Asia after Taiwan and Japan. In the United States, Trump has rejected long-held norms, refusing to accept he lost to Biden four years ago -- culminating in his supporters violently rampaging through the US Capitol. Trump's rejection of democracy ultimately worked out for him: campaigning on the rage of 2020, he won last month's election. But experts said Yoon's power play -- and its reversal -- could in fact show a victory for democratic values. "Yoon is a deeply unpopular and ineffectual leader, but there was nothing I saw of people being dissatisfied with the way government runs," Alan Yu, a senior vice president at the left-leaning Center for American Progress, said after a recent trip to Seoul. Conor McGregor must pay $250K to woman who says he raped her, civil jury rules LONDON (AP) — A civil jury in Ireland has awarded more than $250,000 to a woman who says she was raped by mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor in a Dublin hotel penthouse after a night of heavy partying. The jury on Friday awarded Nikita Hand in her lawsuit that claimed McGregor “brutally raped and battered” her in 2018. The lawsuit says the assault left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor testified that he never forced her to do anything and that Hand fabricated her allegations after the two had consensual sex. McGregor says he will appeal the verdict. Lawyer says ex-Temple basketball standout Hysier Miller met with NCAA for hours amid gambling probe PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A lawyer for former Temple basketball standout Hysier Miller says the 22-year-old sat for a long interview with the NCAA amid an investigation into unusual gambling activity. But neither the lawyer nor federal law enforcement officials on Friday would confirm reports that a federal probe is now under way. Lawyer Jason Bologna says Miller cooperated because he hopes to play again. Miller was released last month after transferring to Virginia Tech. A former college softball star at Sacramento State, Nakken joined the Giants in 2014 and was promoted to a spot on manager Gabe Kapler’s staff in 2020, becoming the majors’ first full-time female coach. I will carve my own identity. I am not going to be a remote-controlled MLA. My control will be in the hands of the people,” she told ToI in an interview earlier in November. Raghubar Das, who served as the MLA from this constituency five times, is currently serving as the Governor of Odisha. His tenure in Jamshedpur East saw his staunch influence over the region, and now his family hopes to continue that legacy through Sahu. However, the question remains whether the people of Jamshedpur East will embrace a new era of leadership under the Das family or turn to other options. Footage on social media showed the moment of the blast on a residential street in Ilford - which caused a fire that significantly damaged the roof, both of its floors and the loft conversion. The house had been converted into flats, the London Fire Brigade said. Some 60 firefighters were sent to tackle the blaze on Ley Street and two people were rescued from a first-floor window using a ladder. They were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. Two neighbouring properties are being assessed by a dangerous structures engineer, the London Fire Brigade said. Emergency services took the first calls about the fire at 4.09pm and it was brought under control by 6.23pm. Crews will remain on the scene throughout the evening. Station commander Darren McTernan said: "Ley Street remains closed between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, impacting traffic in the surrounding area, so please continue to avoid the area if you can." A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We sent resources including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic practitioner, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team. "We treated three people. We took two to hospital and discharged a third at the scene," they added. The London Fire Brigade said the cause of the explosion was being investigated.

(AP) — Austin Seibert missed his second extra point of the game with 21 seconds left after Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin connected on an 86-yard touchdown, Juanyeh Thomas returned the ensuing onside kick attempt for a touchdown and the Dallas Cowboys pulled out a 34-26 victory Sunday that extended the Washington Commanders’ skid to three games.
