Orange-faced president elect is attempting to make himself some on the side - flogging a range of £10,000 signed guitars. The next US leader is not content with running one of the biggest nations in the world and has now launched his newest venture, a line of branded acoustic and electric guitars. He is selling the instruments, some which have been autographed by the man himself which will be the latest in his long list of merchandise that fans can buy. The “American Eagle Series,” the “Presidential Series,” the “Signature Edition” and “God Bless The USA” guitars will join his line of hats, trading cards, coins and watches that have previously gone on sale. He said 1,000 of each model will be made available to buy to the public - costing between $1,250 and $1,500 - and will feature an image of the American flag, a bald eagle and writing along the guitar’s neck that reads, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” - very similar to the bright red hats many fans were spotted wearing on the campaign trail. Trump hasalso signed 275 of the “American Eagle” acoustic and electric guitars that are set to be sold at $10,000 each. The first 1,000 “Presidential Series” guitars will be numbered and sold for $2,000, while an unspecified number of “God Bless The USA” acoustic guitars will also be made available for $1,000. In the past few months he has also flogged Trump-branded Bibles which are said to have made him $300,000 in sales, as well as a range of trainers. The shoes were valued at $399 each and incredibly sold out, generating the multi-millionaire a further $399,000. Fans were quick to have their say on social media. One wrote “the orange grifter really is making sure to capitalise on his presidency” while another added “I’m sorry this can’t be real. America looked at Donald Trump and thought ‘the guy grifting trading cards, sneakers and guitars? Yeah give him the nuclear codes.” Another added: “We have a washed up QVC salesman as president.”The Mazagon Docks Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) created history by delivering two indigenously built, modern Capital Warships 'Nilgiri' and 'Surat' to the Indian Navy, officials said in Mumbai on Friday. The acceptance documents for the first Stealth Frigate of P17A Class, 'Nilgiri' and the fourth Guided Missile Destroy of P15B Class, 'Surat' were signed by MDL Chairman-Managing Director Sanjeev Singhal and CSO (Tech) R. Adhisrinivasan, and handed over to senior officials of Indian Navy. Both the warships have been designed by the IN's Warship Design Bureau, constructed by MDL and overseen by the Warship Overseeing Team, Mumbai. 'Nilgiri' is the First of Class (FoC) ship of Project 17A featuring cutting-edge advanced technology that is comparable to the finest ships of similar class anywhere in the world. It incorporates the design concepts for improved survivability, seakeeping, stealth and ship manoeuvrability with state of the art having stealth features through the shaping of the hull and use of radar transparent deck fittings, which make ships difficult to detect. It is packed with an array of sophisticated weapons and sensors and has all-around capability against enemy submarines, surface warships, anti-ship missiles, and fighter aircraft, mounted with guns for close-in-defence capability and effective naval gunfire. With significant indigenous content, 'Nilgiri' is enabled to operate independently without supporting vessels, and also to function as the flagship of the Naval task force. 'Surat' is the fourth ship of Project 15B and is a potent platform capable of undertaking a variety of tasks and missions, spanning the full spectrum of maritime warfare. It is armed with supersonic Surface-to-Surface 'Brahmos' missiles and 'Barak-8' Medium Range Surface to Air Missiles. Towards undersea warfare capability, the destroyer 'Surat' is fitted with indigenously developed anti-submarine weapons and sensors, prominently the Hull mounted Sonar Humsa NG, Heavyweight Torpedo Tube Launchers and ASW Rocket Launchers. Considerably more versatile than the previous classes of Destroyers and Frigates in Naval inventory, 'Surat' all-round capability against enemy submarines, surface warships, anti-ship missiles and fighter aircraft will enable it to operate independently without supporting vessels and also to function as the flagship of a Naval task force. The indigenous content in P15B Class Destroyers is 72 per cent which is a notch above their predecessors P15A 59 per cent and P15 42 per cent Class Destroyers, in tune with the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' policy of the Centre. TORONTO — The injury-ravaged Toronto Maple Leafs placed Matthew Knies on injured reserve Friday and signed fellow forward Alex Nylander to a one-year contract, recalling him from the AHL Marlies. Knies was hurt in a mid-ice check by Las Vegas defenceman Zach Whitecloud in the Toronto's 3-0 home win Wednesday. Knies did not return and has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Wednesday with an upper-body injury. Toronto is already missing captain Auston Matthews, Max Domi, David Kampf, Max Pacioretty and Calle Jarnkrok due to injury, as well as Ryan Reaves, who is one game into his five-game ban for felling Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse with an illegal check to the head. Whitecloud, who stood up as he delivered the hit, was not penalized for the punishing check despite video review, but got a minor roughing penalty for tangling with Simon Benoit, who got a four-minute roughing call for his attempted retribution. "They thought it was a clean hit so it's a clean hit," Leafs coach Craig Berube said after the game, referencing the league. "Really there's nothing to say." Under league rules, a player placed on Injured reserve is ineligible to compete in NHL games for at least seven days. Toronto (12-6-2) hosts Utah on Sunday before heading to Florida to play at the Panthers on Wednesday. Veteran Leafs defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson missed practice Friday due to illness. The club recalled defenceman Philippe Myers from a conditioning stint with the Marlies. The 27-year-old from Moncton, who signed as a free agent in July, has appeared in one game with the Leafs this season. Nylander's contract is worth $775,000. The 26-year-old Nylander, the younger brother of Leafs star William Nylander, has eight goals and four assists in 14 games with the Toronto Marlies this season. The six-foot-one 205-pounder has 222 career points (102 goals, 120 assists) in 344 regular-season AHL games split between Toronto, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Rockford and Rochester. The younger Nylander has 49 points (25 goals, 24 assists) in 121 career NHL games split between Columbus, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Buffalo. He won a silver medal with Sweden at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships. Alex Nylander joined the Toronto organization as a free agent, signing a one-year AHL contract in July. He was originally selected by the Sabres in the first round (eight overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. The injuries have promoted a string of call-ups for the Leafs. Fraser Minter scored his first NHL goal Wednesday in his season debut and fifth career NHL game while Russian Nikita Grebenkin made his NHL debut. --- This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 22, 2024. The Canadian PressAll the hard work the Vikings put in on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field almost fell by the wayside after they failed to recover an onside kick in the final minute. That paved the way for Chicago Bears kicker Cairo Santos to send the game into overtime with a 48-yard field goal as time expired. ADVERTISEMENT As proud as head coach Kevin O’Connell was that the Vikings still managed to escape with a 30-27 overtime win, he also was irked that lack of execution on the onside kick nearly cost them. What went wrong? Though it looked like nothing more than a fluky bounce, it was actually a misread by tight end Johnny Mundt that resulted in the ball hitting him. Asked about the particular play, special teams coordinator Matt Daniels said as soon as Mundt realized it was going to be a watermelon kick, he should’ve attacked the ball rather than engaged in a block. “He’s got to have some awareness right there,” Daniels said. “He didn’t see where the ball was at.” The use of the watermelon kick has become much more common across the NFL over the past few seasons. It’s executed by placing the ball on its side and kicking the point to create a spinning motion. The hope is to create enough spin with the watermelon kick that the ball travels the required 10 yards. The only issue? The rules say the kicking team can’t touch any member of the receiving team on an onside kick until the ball crosses 10 yards. ADVERTISEMENT That’s why Daniels has stressed to his players the importance of attacking the ball in those situations. “That’s the No. 1 thing,” Daniels said. “As soon as we see it’s a watermelon kick, we are going to go get the ball.” After suffering a hamstring injury over the weekend, linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. has been placed on injured reserve. As a result, he will have to miss at least the next month, with the Vikings hoping he can be ready to return by the time the playoffs roll around. It’s a tough blow for the Vikings heading into the home stretch as Pace has developed into a key contributor on defense. As a way to add some depth amid the loss, the Vikings signed linebacker Jamin Davis to their active roster, poaching him from the Green Bay Packers, who had signed him to their practice squad. There might be some untapped potential in Davis considering the Washington Commanders selected him in the first round of the 2021 draft. He has totaled 282 tackles, seven sacks, an interception and a pair of forced fumbles across 50 NFL games. Additionally, the Vikings also activated edge rusher Gabe Murphy from injured reserve. ADVERTISEMENT The benefit of having veteran left tackle David Quessenberry on the roster is that he has proven capable of going into a game on short notice. After stepping up last month when star left tackle Christian Darrisaw went down with a knee injury, Quessenberry had his number called over the weekend when veteran left tackle Cam Robinson left the game with a foot injury. Though there were some ups and downs for Quessenberry in the game, his presence allowed the Vikings to continue to run their offense. “I thought he came in and played really well,” offensive coordinator Wes Phillips said. “The left side really wasn’t an issue with him in there. We weren’t thinking like, ‘Oh god. We’ve got to get chips over there. We’ve got to try to formation these things where we can help him out every play.’ We felt pretty comfortable with him felling in and playing that role.” After being cut by the Vikings over the weekend, cornerback Akayleb Evans was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers. It will be a fresh start for Evans as he looks to get his career back on track. Though he started 15 games for the Vikings last season, Evans barely played at all on defense this season. He was buried on the depth chart behind veteran cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore, Byron Murphy Jr., and Shaq Griffin. Why didn’t it work out for Evans? ADVERTISEMENT “Sometimes it becomes a numbers situation,” defensive coordinator Brian Flores said. “He’s a talented player who has a place in this league. I wish him all the best in Carolina. He’s going to do a great job for them.” ______________________________________________________ This story was written by one of our partner news agencies. A morning hangover led to a shocking discovery for a 20 year old woman after a night of drinking with friends. Allison Pickard, who works as a pet sitter in Newport Beach, California , detailed her startling experience on social media, explaining how what seemed like typical hangover symptoms turned out to be a 4 cm brain tumor. This diagnosis ultimately resulted in her undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment. Allison recalled waking up after a late night with just an hour of sleep, tormented by a severe headache and "wobbly" visiona condition she had noticed before but dismissed owing to her youth and good health. Unbeknownst to her at the time, these were signs of cancer, reports the Mirror US . Just seven cans of Diet Coke per week linked to deadly heart condition - study 'I'm a trauma expert - if you can't go to therapy go read these nine books' Recounting her ordeal, Allison shared: "I thought that I was just hungover. My vision was really bad, it was like I was on a boat and then it [my field of vision] was spinning so fast, it was really wobbly. It wasn't just in my peripheral anymore, I knew something was wrong." These troubling symptoms prompted her to visit her primary care doctor and proceed with an MRI. These incidents weren't new for Allison; she had previously experienced frequent headaches, which she attributed to everything from PMS to caffeine withdrawal. About a month before this particular incident, she even felt pins and needles on one side of her body but had brushed it aside when it subsided quickly. She expressed: "I thought my doctor would tell me I have a vitamin deficiency or a headache condition, I never thought it could be a brain tumour. Because she had no previous health issues and no family history of cancer, she never thought that she would have such a serious, life-threatening condition. Medical professionals informed her that her brain had swelled, affecting her vision, and identified a brain tumor in her occipital lobe. Shortly after, she underwent her first-ever surgery. The three-hour procedure took place at Loma Linda University Medical Center in California , followed immediately by chemotherapy and radiation treatment. She expressed gratitude for trusting her instincts and seeking medical help, and for having a doctor who took her seriously. Her advice to others experiencing unusual symptoms is to "trust to your gut" and if your doctor is not taking you seriously, try to find another doctor." ""That hangover saved my life. I definitely didn't expect it to be cancer. You never think it's going to be you, you think you have to be older or unhealthy to have health issues. ".
Mayor Ken Sim said it was "a great day for the City of Vancouver," as his council voted to approve a 2025 budget worth $2.4 billion in spending with a property tax increase of 3.9 per cent. The increase is broken down by 2.9 per cent for city services and a one per cent increase for infrastructure renewal. It was passed unanimously by council. It means an extra $149 for the median single-family home and an extra $286 for the median business property. Earlier this year, a seven per cent property tax increase was proposed to balance the books if no action was taken to increase revenues or reduce costs. Council passed a motion in the spring to limit any increase to a maximum of 5.5 per cent. "It's a very pragmatic budget that actually takes care of our people, and we're really proud of it," said Sim on Tuesday in approving the even lower number after staff were able to find extra revenue and efficiencies. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is pictured at City Hall in Vancouver, British Columbia on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. (Ben Nelms/CBC) In achieving a lower property tax increase for 2025, staff were able to find around $9.5 million of additional revenue through measures such as increasing fees and through sponsorship, naming rights, advertising and donations. For example, $3.6 million is expected in revenue in 2025 from advertising on street furniture. The initiatives were shaped by a special mayor's budget task force, which was put in place in April 2023 to look at the city's budget for efficiencies and potential revenue. Today, Vancouver City Council approved the 2025 budget, delivering a tax increase of just 2.9%, with an additional 1% dedicated to renewing critical infrastructure such as water and sewer lines. We're investing in a stronger, safer, and more affordable city without cutting... pic.twitter.com/owtQMeSJmC — @KenSimCity For 2025, annual revenues from non-tax sources are projected to increase by $10 million, according to the budget, while $16.1 million was found in savings from police, parks, engineering services and the city's libraries. 'Going in the right direction' Coun. Mike Klassen said the 3.9 per cent increase would have Vancouver among the lowest in property tax increases for 2025 in Metro Vancouver and would not cut service levels or jobs. Vancouver mayor's budget task force proposes 'potentially divesting' some city assets Council, under Klassen's and Sim's ABC super majority, passed a property tax increase of 7.5 per cent in 2024 and 10.7 per cent in 2023 "The numbers were very hard to take," said Klassen. "We had to restore services. We've now got our arms around this, thanks to the mayor's budget task force. All of our staff and council, I think, we're going in the right direction here." Police budget In the lead-up to the municipal budget, the Vancouver Police Board approved a budget for the police force that sought an extra $13 million above what city staff had expected. Vancouver police seek to increase 2025 budget to $434M Vancouver police Chief Adam Palmer argued at a public city budget consultation meeting on Dec. 3 that the extra funds were needed to help pay to police a growing number of protests, help city staff respond to tent encampments and properly roll out body-worn cameras. On Tuesday, city council approved around $2.6 million in extra funding, with contingency funds to be used to help with police initiatives. Police Board Chair Frank Chong said at council on Tuesday that the funding plan for police for 2025 was "reasonable," with the body-worn cameras being the priority. Twenty-seven per cent of spending in the 2025 budget is allocated for police (19 per cent) and fire (eight per cent). Utilities pain Along with the 3.9 per cent property tax increase is a $386 increase for utilities for the median single-family home and $377 for the median business property. Sewer utility fees alone are increasing by 37 percent in 2025, mostly due to vast cost overruns from Metro Vancouver's embattled new North Shore Waste Water Treatment plant, which is now four years beyond its completion date and five times over budget. A timeline of Metro Vancouver's $3.86B wastewater treatment plant A coalition of housing experts, academics, builders, businesses and property tax appeal professionals are calling out both Metro Vancouver and the City of Vancouver for straying "well outside their lane into non-core services normally delivered by senior governments," such as social housing, health care and climate change. They say focusing on core services would make it easier to balance budgets and avoid unaffordable tax increases for businesses and residents. On Tuesday, City of Vancouver opposition Coun. Adriane Carr tried to bring a motion that would have staff look into how to recover $77 million in climate change mitigation. It was not passed by council.
Reddit Inc (NYSE: RDDT) opened about 8.0% down on Friday after Tencent Holdings unloaded about $88.5 million shares of the forum social network. Advertisement The weakness may also be related to a report that Advance Magazine Publishers is considering trimming its position on Reddit as well. Advertisement Still, there are three solid reasons to consider loading up on Reddit stock on the recent sell-off. Let’s take a look at each of them individually. Reddit stock price is backed by solid financials even though it hasn’t even been a year since it went public. More importantly, the forum social network is attracting users at an unparalleled rate. Its daily active users went up another 47% on a year-over-year basis to 97.2 million in Q3. That’s significant since more users will likely drive more advertisers to the platform – and more advertisers will continue to drive the company’s bottom line over the coming quarters. Reddit topped Street estimates for all metrics in its latest report. Profit, revenue, daily active users, average revenue per user, you name it – this company surpassed all of them in Q3. That speaks volumes about the state of business and what the future may hold for Reddit stock. RDDT could benefit from AI tailwinds Reddit stock is trading at a significant premium at writing but it may continue to justify it as RDDT is uniquely positioned to benefit from the AI frenzy. On top of stealing ad spend from X (formerly Twitter), it’s selling data to big tech names and helping them train their large language models. Reddit already has a deal in place with Google and OpenAI – and will likely secure similar deals with others as users continue to register on its online platform over the next few quarters. Note that Statista estimates the artificial intelligence market to grow at a compound annualized rate of over 28% through the end of this decade which confirms AI as a meaningful potential tailwind for RDDT. Reddit stock does not, however, pay a dividend. Reddit is catering to an international audience Reddit is also tapping on artificial intelligence to translate the wealth of data on its forum social network from English to a whole bunch of other languages. That exposes it to an international audience and positions it to become a significantly bigger platform over the next five years. Steve Huffman – the company’s chief executive told investors in the earnings press release last month: Reddit continues to be one of the most visited and trusted sites in the world with opportunities available to us that aren’t available to most companies. Wall Street currently has a consensus “overweight” rating on Reddit stock, suggesting they continue to see further upside despite its massive year-to-date run.
