Saquon Barkley became the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season as the Philadelphia Eagles clinched the NFC East title with victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The 27-year-old achieved the feat with a 23-yard run during the fourth quarter of the Eagles’ crushing 41-7 success at Lincoln Financial Field. Barkley is 100 yards short of Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards, set in 1984 for the Los Angeles Rams, ahead of next week’s regular season finale against the New York Giants. However, he could be rested for that game in order to protect him from injury ahead of the play-offs. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kept alive their dreams of reaching the play-offs by overcoming the Carolina Panthers 48-14. Veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield produced a dominant performance at Raymond James Stadium, registering five passing touchdowns to equal a Buccaneers franchise record. The Buffalo Bills clinched the AFC conference number two seed for the post season with a 40-14 success over the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium. Josh Allen passed for 182 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for another. Buffalo finish the 2024 regular season undefeated at home, with eight wins from as many games. The Indianapolis Colts’ hopes of reaching the play-offs were ended by a 45-33 defeat to the Giants. Malik Nabers exploded for 171 yards and two touchdowns and Ihmir Smith-Marsette broke a 100-yard kick-off return to give the Giants their highest-scoring output under head coach Brian Daboll. Quarterback Drew Lock threw four touchdown passes and accounted for a fifth on the ground to seal the win. Elsewhere, Mac Jones threw two touchdowns to help the Jacksonville Jaguars defeat the Tennessee Titans 20-13, while the Las Vegas Raiders beat the New Orleans Saints 25-10.Hexafluorobutadiene Gas Market Set for Exceptional Growth from 2024 to 2032blackjack demo

AAP legislator Naresh Balyan was arrested here on Saturday in connection with an extortion case lodged last year, police said. The MLA from Delhi's Uttam Nagar Assembly segment was called to the Delhi Police's Crime Branch office in R K Puram for questioning and was later arrested, they said. The development came hours after the BJP alleged that Balyan was involved in extortion activities and questioned why AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has not taken action against him. The Aam Aadmi Party defended Balyan, claiming that his arrest was illegal. The MLA had refuted the BJP's allegations and said he would lodge police cases against those who "spread lies" about him. A police official said that an audio clip of a conversation purportedly between Balyan and gangster Kapil Sangwan, currently based abroad, had gone viral on social media. The conversation involved discussions about collecting extortion money from businessmen, he said, adding further investigation and interrogation was underway. Jaishankar described Tipu Sultan as a "very complex figure in history," highlighting both his resistance to British colonial control and the controversial aspects of his rule. Speaking at the event, Jaishankar said, "Tipu Sultan is actually a very, very complex figure in history. On the one hand, he has the reputation as a key figure who resisted the British colonial control over India, and it is a fact that his defeat and death can be considered a turning point when it came to the fate of peninsular India." However, Jaishankar also noted the "adverse" effects of Tipu Sultan's rule in the Mysore region. "At the same time, he evokes strong adverse sentiments even today in many regions, some in Mysore itself," he added. Jaishankar further emphasized that Indian history has focused more on Tipu Sultan's battles with the British, and "underplaying" or "neglecting" other aspects of his rule. "Contemporary history writing, certainly at the national level, has focused largely on the former, and underplaying, if not neglecting the later. Let's be honest, this was not an accident," he said. Asserting that History is complicated, Jaishankar said that "cherry-picking of facts" in the case of Tipu Sultan has led to the advancement of a "political narrative". This has happened in the case of Tipu Sultan. By highlighting the Tipu-English binary, to the exclusion of a more complicated reality, a particular narrative has been advanced over the years," he said. Jaishankar reaffirmed that under PM Modi's government, India has seen the emergence of alternative perspectives. "In the last 10 years, the changes in our political dispensation have led to the emergence of alternative perspectives. We are no longer prisoners of a vote bank, nor it is politically incorrect to bring out inconvenient truth," he added. Speaking further about the book, Jaishankar said, "As someone from the diplomatic world, I was really struck by info and insights which are provided in this volume on Tipu Sultan. We in India have tendered to mainly study post-independence foreign policy -- perhaps this too was a conscious choice. But the fact is that many of our kingdoms and states forayed into international affairs in previous centuries in pursuance of thier particular interests, and some, by the way, continued to do so even till independence. The interaction of Tipu's missionary with their French and English counterparts is really fascinating." Jaishankar concluded by saying that open-minded scholarship and genuine debate are central to India's evolution as a pluralistic society and vibrant democracy. A multi-billion-dollar infrastructure project is being planned to establish new transport links between Europe and West Asia . The proposed route will span across Iraq , stretching 745 miles from the northern Turkish border to the southern Persian Gulf. This mega-project, encompassing a network of roads, railways, ports and cities, aims to reduce travel time between Asia and Europe - posing competition to Egypt 's Suez Canal, a crucial trade route between the two continents. After establishing a trade corridor into Turkey , the project is expected to extend into Europe, bolstering Iraq 's global standing as well as its domestic economy and infrastructure, reports the Express . Inside the $20trillion Transatlantic Tunnel that would connect US to the UK in 54 minutes Man accused of shipping weapons to North Korea in shipping containers from US port The new route will build on the ongoing Grand Al Faw Port project - a port on the Persian Gulf that enables Iraq to better distribute its exports worldwide, marking the country's largest developmental endeavour so far. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani views the project as a cornerstone of a sustainable non-oil economy, a link benefiting Iraq and the region, and a contribution to economic integration efforts," according to The Cradle . The project could be completed within three years. The ultimate goal is to establish an "uninterrupted highway and rail corridor between Basra and London ". The project could potentially surpass its stated cost of $17 billion. The Route of Development might present a more financially viable alternative to the Suez Canal, given the projected capacity of Grand Faw Port. As reported by Anadolu Agency, the Iraqi Transport Minister said the port "will be able to host large trade ships with a depth of up to 19.5 metres". He also suggested it could save between 12 and 15 days in travel time compared to its Egypt -based counterpart. The project has received support from several influential states, with UAE and Qatar governments signing a memorandum last summer. However, Transport Minister Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi emphasised that it's "a purely economy-focused project, completely devoid of politics". Speaking to AA, he said: "We will not engage in competition with any other party. " Iraq and Turkey have geographical advantages. We will utilize this for the benefit of our peoples." Bhumjaithai leader and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the government enjoys a high degree of stability and there are no risk factors that could pose a threat to it. "In recent years, no government has commanded as large a majority in the House of Representatives as this administration," Mr Anutin said. "Prime Minister Paetontarn Shinawatra has clearly demonstrated her leadership skills and has the capability to steer the government. Collaboration among coalition members is also progressing smoothly. "Trivial issues among coalition parties are normal and can be addressed. There is no major conflict that cannot be resolved," Mr Anutin added. Asked about a photo featuring his golf outing with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Pathum Thani last week and whether Bhumjaithai would continue to oppose Pheu Thai, Mr Anutin said BJT was not trying to oppose Pheu Thai. "Bhumjaithai only expresses its stance and opinions on issues we believe will benefit the nation. At the same time, the party respects the majority vote," Mr Anutin said. In response to criticism the coalition government was formed because the parties were forced to do so, Mr Anutin said they were not forced to work together, but the coalition government feels compelled to work hard for the people. When asked whether the government could continue without BJT, Mr Anutin said no one is indispensable. "When the time comes, anyone can part ways. Nothing is indispensable," he said. Asked whether the coalition would remain in place until it completes its full term and whether coalition parties would stick together in the next government, Mr Anutin said the cabinet is responsible for running the country. "In a coalition government, the prime minister is the clear leader. If the leaders of coalition parties refuse to listen to the PM, they should not join the cabinet," he said. In the legislative branch, the role of the House of Representatives is separate from the government. All MPs have the right to express their opinions, he added. Mr Anutin also downplayed the Khao Kradong land controversy in Buri Ram, Bhumjaithai's political stronghold, as it threatens to ignite a dispute between the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the Department of Lands (DoL), which could escalate into open conflict and strain relations between Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai. Mr Anutin said all parties involved must wait for a ruling from the Administrative Court. The SRT is supervised by Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit of Pheu Thai, while the DoL is overseen by Mr Anutin, the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, who leads Bhumjaithai. The dispute centres on land plots totalling 5,083 rai in the Khao Kradong area of Buri Ram's Muang district. The SRT is seeking to reclaim these plots, accusing the DoL of malfeasance for issuing land papers to illegal occupants. Additionally, the Chidchob family, which runs several businesses, including the Buriram International Circuit and a 32,600-seat football stadium, is linked to the controversy. The SRT filed a case with the Administrative Court in September 2021 demanding the DoL revoke its 900 land title deeds and remove all occupants from its property after the Supreme Court found the land belonged to the SRT in 2021. Of the 900 land title deeds, 12, which cover 179 rai, reportedly belong to the Chidchob family. Defence Minister and key Pheu Thai figure Phumtham Wechayachai reaffirmed unity among coalition parties on Saturday, saying that despite their differences on certain issues, they share the same goal of steering the country forward.Herbert tosses 3 TD passes and Chargers secure a playoff spot with a 40-7 rout of Patriots FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Giants' 10th straight loss showed once again that they need a young QBFreshman wide receiver George Dimopoulos threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Dane Pardridge on the first play of the second overtime to lift Northern Illinois to a 28-20 victory over Fresno State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Monday afternoon in Boise, Idaho. The Huskies disguised the game-winning play as a jet sweep, but Dimopoulos pulled up and found Pardridge behind the defense for the winning score. Dimopoulos followed up his first career pass with a two-point conversion toss to quarterback Josh Holst to give the Huskies (8-5) bowl wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2010-11. Holst, a redshirt freshman walk-on making his third career start because regular-season starter Ethan Hampton transferred to Illinois, completed 18 of 30 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a team-high 65 yards. Sophomore Joshua Wood came off the bench to complete 16 of 23 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown for Fresno State (6-7), which saw its five-bowl winning streak come to a close. Bryson Donelson scored two touchdowns and rushed for 82 yards while Mac Dalena made six catches for 118 yards. With Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene -- the Mountain West's leader in passing yards --announcing his transfer to Michigan earlier Monday, redshirt freshman Jayden Mandal made his first start for Fresno State. On Northern Illinois' first play from scrimmage, Holst's rollout pass sailed over his intended receiver. Safety Jayden Davis picked it off and returned it 26 yards to the Huskies' 25. Mandal led a quick drive that Donelson capped with a 1-yard blast for a 6-0 lead at 11:29 of the first. After Kanon Woodill booted a 29-yard field goal to make it 6-3, Fresno State interim head coach Tim Skipper gave Wood the controls for the Bulldogs' next drive -- and he needed just four plays to go 90 yards for a score. He hooked up with Dalena for a 54-yard bomb before taking a keeper untouched up the middle for a 13-yard score and a 13-3 lead. NIU took the first possession of the second half 76 yards for a score. Tight end Grayson Barnes leaped between two Bulldogs and snagged Holst's 26-yard lob with his right hand to cut the deficit to 13-10 with 11:22 left in the third. On Fresno State's next possession, Nate Valcarcel intercepted Mandal at NIU's 38 to set up Woodill's 34-yard field goal that made it 13-13 at 7:39 of the third. That was the last score until overtime, as Woodill missed a go-ahead 35-yard field goal with 3:02 left and the Bulldogs' Dylan Lynch missed a 35-yarder on the final play of regulation. Fresno State opened overtime with Wood's 9-yard touchdown pass to the uncovered Donelson to give the Bulldogs a 20-13 margin. Holst answered with a 3-yard touchdown lob to Barnes. --Field Level Media

WASHINGTON (AP) — Working-class voters helped Republicans make steady election gains this year and expanded a coalition that increasingly includes rank-and-file union members, a political shift spotlighting one of President-elect Donald Trump’s latest Cabinet picks: a GOP congresswoman, who has drawn labor support, to be his labor secretary. Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer narrowly lost her bid for a second term this month, despite strong backing from union members, a key part of the Democratic base but gravitating in the Trump era toward a Republican Party traditionally allied with business interests. “Lori’s strong support from both the Business and Labor communities will ensure that the Labor Department can unite Americans of all backgrounds behind our Agenda for unprecedented National Success - Making America Richer, Wealthier, Stronger and more Prosperous than ever before!” Trump said in a statement announcing his choice Friday night. For decades, labor unions have sided with Democrats and been greeted largely with hostility by Republicans. But with Trump's populist appeal, his working-class base saw a decent share of union rank-and-file voting for Republicans this year, even as major unions, including the AFL-CIO and the United Auto Workers , endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris in the White House race. Trump sat down with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union leadership and members this year, and when he emerged from that meeting, he boasted that a significant chunk of union voters were backing him. Of a possible Teamsters endorsement, he said, “Stranger things have happened.” The Teamsters ultimately declined to endorse either Trump, the former president, or Harris, the vice president, though leader Sean O’Brien had a prominent speaking slot at the Republican National Convention. Kara Deniz, a Teamsters spokesperson, told the Associated Press that O’Brien met with more than a dozen House Republicans this past week to lobby on behalf of Chavez-DeRemer. “Chavez-DeRemer would be an excellent choice for labor secretary and has his backing,” Deniz said. The work of the Labor Department affects workers’ wages, health and safety, ability to unionize, and employers' rights to fire employers, among other responsibilities. On Election Day, Trump deepened his support among voters without a college degree after running just slightly ahead of Democrat Joe Biden with noncollege voters in 2020. Trump made modest gains, earning a clear majority of this group, while only about 4 in 10 supported Harris, according to AP VoteCast, a sweeping survey of more than 120,000 voters nationwide. Roughly 18% of voters in this year's election were from union households, with Harris winning a majority of the group. But Trump's performance among union members kept him competitive and helped him win key states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. Chavez-DeRemer was one of few House Republicans to endorse the “Protecting the Right to Organize” or PRO Act, which would allow more workers to conduct organizing campaigns and add penalties for companies that violate workers’ rights. The measure would weaken “right-to-work” laws that allow employees in more than half the states to avoid participating in or paying dues to unions that represent workers at their places of employment. Trump's first term saw firmly pro-business policies from his appointees across government, including those on the National Labor Relations Board. Trump, a real estate developer and businessman before winning the presidency, generally has backed policies that would make it harder for workers to unionize. During his recent campaign, Trump criticized union bosses, and at one point suggested that UAW members should not pay their dues. His first administration did expand overtime eligibility rules, but not nearly as much as Democrats wanted, and a Trump-appointed judge has since struck down the Biden administration’s more generous overtime rules. He has stacked his incoming administration with officials who worked on the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” blueprint, which includes a sharp swing away from Biden’s pro-union policies. “Chavez-DeRemer’s record suggests she understands the value of policies that strengthen workers’ rights and economic security,” said Rebecca Dixon, president and CEO of National Employment Law Project, which is backed my many of the country’s major labor unions. “But the Trump administration’s agenda is fundamentally at odds with these principles, threatening to roll back workplace protections, undermine collective bargaining, and prioritize corporate profits over the needs of working people. This is where her true commitment to workers will be tested.” Other union leaders also issued praise, but also sounded a note of caution. “Educators and working families across the nation will be watching ... as she moves through the confirmation process,” the president of the National Education Association, Becky Pringle, said in a statement, “and hope to hear a pledge from her to continue to stand up for workers and students as her record suggests, not blind loyalty to the Project 2025 agenda.” AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler welcomed the choice while taking care to note Trump's history of opposing polices that support unions. "It remains to be seen what she will be permitted to do as secretary of labor in an administration with a dramatically anti-worker agenda,” Shuler said.Mikaela Shiffrin suffers abrasion on hip during crash on final run of World Cup giant slalom

President-elect Donald Trump entered the fray in a debate over immigration policy that’s dividing his supporters, telling the New York Post he favors a visa program for highly skilled workers that Elon Musk has strongly defended. Musk is among tech leaders stoking a social-media storm this week over how to bring top talent to the US — revealing friction between Trump’s Silicon Valley supporters and anti-immigration sentiment that helps fuel his base. “I’ve always been in favor of the visas,” Trump told the Post in a phone interview. “I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times.” Many employees at Trump properties have H-1B visas, which allow companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations. “It’s a great program,” Trump told the outlet. Trump’s stance may indicate an emerging alignment with Musk, whose backing for the former and future president made him the largest single donor in the US election. “There is a permanent shortage of excellent engineering talent. It is the fundamental limiting factor in Silicon Valley,” Musk, who used an H-1B visa to work in the US, wrote previously on X. Vivek Ramaswamy, whom Trump has tapped along with Musk to run a government efficiency initiative, also weighed in. He drew particular attention for a post arguing that “American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence.” Trump during his first term restricted several visa types including H-1B, citing the need to protect American workers as the Covid-19 pandemic led to job losses in the US. President Joe Biden let the measures expire. Trump’s comments on Saturday hint at his malleability on policy specifics and penchant for letting supporters battle over issues before stepping in. The dispute began after Laura Loomer, a far-right activist with longstanding ties to the president-elect, criticized his decision to name Indian-born investor Sriram Krishnan as a senior policy adviser on artificial intelligence. Loomer assailed previous comments by Krishnan advocating for increased access to green cards and skilled worker visas, calling it antithetical to Trump’s “America First” stance. That prompted pushback from Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who argued that US companies needed to recruit top talent from across the world to remain competitive. The clash may frame how the incoming administration approaches immigration, which has long bedeviled US policymakers, including Trump’s first administration. Trump himself offered a more open approach to visas when prompted during a podcast interview with venture capitalists David Sacks, Chamath Palihapitiya and Jason Calacanis and entrepreneur David Friedberg. “You graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically as part of your diploma a green card to be able to stay in this country and that includes junior colleges too,” Trump said.
