He helped defuse tense situations in the Koreas and prevent a US invasion of Haiti in 1994. These activities earned him immense prestige and multiple nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize, which he was awarded in 2002. Scarcely known in the national scene, he ran for the presidency in 1974 with a modest campaign, staying in the homes of his supporters. After Richard Nixon's resignation due to the Watergate scandal, Carter based his campaign on restoring the citizens' trust in the government. "If I ever lie to you, if I ever make a deceptive statement, do not vote for me. I would not deserve to be your president," Carter repeated in every speech. Carter and Rosalynn walked to his inauguration, where he became the first president to be sworn in using his nickname: he always preferred to be called Jimmy. China's policymakers are set to take a more proactive approach to macroeconomic policies in the year ahead, aiming to tackle both short-term challenges arising from lackluster demand and structural issues, said economists. Citing the recently concluded Central Economic Work Conference, they said the country is fine-tuning its macroeconomic strategy, marking a significant shift toward a consumption-driven economy as it prepares for expansionary fiscal and monetary policies in 2025. "The deficit ratio for 2025 is likely to be the highest on record," said Xiong Yuan, chief economist at Guosheng Securities, anticipating that the government would set the projected deficit-to-GDP ratio for 2025 at 3.5-4 percent or higher in March, up from 3 percent for this year. The Chinese government started to release the annual projected deficit ratio in 2010, with the highest reading in 2020 at 3.6 percent as COVID-19 hit, according to market tracker Wind Info. Xiong said next year's quota of special local government bonds is expected to increase to more than 4.5 trillion yuan ($616.5 billion) from a record high of 3.9 trillion yuan this year, in addition to special treasury bonds of over 2 to 3 trillion yuan in 2025, up from 1 trillion yuan for 2024. He wrote to National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya K Rahatkar, alleging police made public the survivor's identity as part of DMK govt's attempt to malign her. The company is making significant investments in AI-driven image and video generation technologies in response to the growing competition from well-capitalized startups such as Stability AI and Midjourney. While Adobe projected strong growth for the second half of the year in June, its forecast on Wednesday indicated the company was still struggling to monetize its AI push. Adobe last year launched Firefly, a family of generative AI models that is integrated into its various applications and products. Last month, the company added software tools that let customers use AI to create images based on Adobe's library of stock images. It forecast first-quarter revenue between $5.63 billion and $5.68 billion, which fell short of estimates of $5.73 billion. Washington, Dec 27 (AP) The Biden administration has imposed sanctions on the founder of Georgia's ruling political party, which has steered the country away from a pro-Western stance and towards Russia, US officials said on Friday. The State and Treasury departments said they hit Georgian Dream party founder and honorary chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili with penalties “for undermining the democratic and Euro-Atlantic future of Georgia for the benefit of the Russian Federation", according to a statement. The designation of Ivanishvili is the latest in a series of sanctions the US has slapped on Georgian politicians, lawmakers and others this year. Those sanctions include freezes on assets and properties those targeted may have in US jurisdictions or that might enter US jurisdictions as well as travel bans on the targets and members of their families. “We strongly condemn Georgian Dream's actions under Ivanishvili's leadership, including its ongoing and violent repression of Georgian citizens, protestors, members of the media, human rights activists, and opposition figures,” the State Department said in a statement. “The United States is committed to promoting accountability for those undermining democracy and human rights in Georgia."
