CarMax (KMX) Q3 2025 Earnings Call Transcript

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley isn’t on board with several of Trump’s Cabinet picks, she told listeners on her recent podcast episode of Nikki Haley Live. The former 2024 presidential candidate is concerned about some of Trump’s picks, but said she is looking at the policies for these nominations instead of personalities. She said Republican U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida will have “a lot of issues,” getting confirmed as Attorney General. “It’s hard to start a confirmation when you have allegations of illicit drug use and sex parties with minors,” Haley said of Gaetz. “So that’s going to be difficult. The same goes for Pete Hegseth, who was accused of sexual assault.” Gaetz withdrew his name to be Attorney General on Thursday. “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General,” he posted on social media platform X. Gaetz has been accused of sexual misconduct allegations including having sex with a minor, which he has long denied. Haley said while the two have a right to defend themselves, they would have to answer to these allegations. Haley said Health and Human Services nominee, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who also ran as a 2024 presidential candidate as an Independent, is “not a health guy.” “He is not educated, trained or practiced in health at all,” Haley said, after explaining the role HHS has on society and the branches it covers, like the FDA and National Institutes of Health. When Kennedy dropped out of the presidential election, he asked his supporters to back Trump. At the time, Trump signaled he would consider Kennedy for a role in his administration. Haley also detailed some of his strongly Democratic views, including his stance on climate change and abortion. She said Kennedy said his and Trump’s positions could not be “further apart.” “Why are we putting someone that’s so ideologically opposed to Donald Trump’s views and Republican views? Why do we want that? You know, but what else do we know about his views?” Haley asked. Haley served under the Trump administration as U.N. Ambassador during his first term in office. She and Trump had a tumultuous relationship during their time campaigning against one another, often calling each other names and trading insults. Haley, however, said she would be voting for Trump months after she dropped out, and Trump said Haley would be a part of his administration again “in some form,” while he was campaigning. However, once Trump was elected, he made a social media post that said Haley would not be returning to work with him. She also has “major issues” on the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard, who was nominated for Director of National Intelligence, Haley said Wednesday. Haley talked about Gabbard’s history of criticizing and disagreeing with Trump on various national intelligence proposals. She also questioned Gabbard decisions like going to Syria in 2017 for a “photo op” with Bashar al-Assad, the current president of Syria, who was massacring his own people, Haley said. “Now, this to me is disgusting,” Haley said. “You can go back and look at a speech I gave holding up pictures of dead children who had been killed by chemical attacks. Yup, choked to death.” She said the Department of National Intelligence analyzes real threats, and it is not a place for Russian, Iranian, Syrian or Chinese sympathizers. ©2024 The State. Mr Carter, a former peanut farmer, served one term in the White House between 1977 and 1981, taking over in the wake of the Watergate scandal and the end of the Vietnam War. After his defeat by Ronald Reagan, he spent his post-presidency years as a global humanitarian, winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. His death on Sunday was announced by his family and came more than a year after he decided to enter hospice care. He was the longest-lived US president. Our founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia. pic.twitter.com/aqYmcE9tXi — The Carter Center (@CarterCenter) December 29, 2024 His son, Chip Carter, said: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights and unselfish love. “My brothers, sister and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. “The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honouring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.” Mr Carter is expected to receive a state funeral featuring public observances in Atlanta and Washington DC before being buried in his home town of Plains, Georgia. A moderate democrat born in Plains in October 1924, Mr Carter’s political career took him from the Georgia state senate to the state governorship and finally the White House, where he took office as the 39th president. His presidency saw economic disruption amid volatile oil prices, along with social tensions at home and challenges abroad including the Iranian revolution that sparked a 444-day hostage crisis at the US embassy in Tehran. But he also brokered the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel, which led to a peace treaty between the two countries in 1979. After his defeat in the 1980 presidential election, he worked for more than four decades leading the Carter Centre, which he and his late wife Rosalynn co-founded in 1982 to “wage peace, fight disease, and build hope”. Mrs Carter, who died last year aged 96, had played a more active role in her husband’s presidency than previous first ladies, with Mr Carter saying she had been “my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished”. Earlier this year, on his 100th birthday, Mr Carter received a private congratulatory message from the King, expressing admiration for his life of public service.

After almost 18 years with the Vacaville Police Department, Sergeant Mark Ferreira heard his final radio call with the Vacaville Police Department, wishing him a pleasant retirement after 25 years in law enforcement. “Sergeant Mark Ferreira, on behalf of the city of Vacaville, your Vacaville Police Department family, and the community that you love and devoted the past 17 1⁄2 years to, we congratulate you on your retirement and thank you for your sacrifice and dedication to us all,” the message over Vacaville Police Department radios began. Ferreira started his career with the San Pablo Police Department in 1999, where he worked in patrol, investigations, and the Northern California Computer Crimes Task Force. In July of 2007, he joined the Vacaville Police Department, where he proved to be “tenacious and loyal” according to the radio message. “Your integrity as a Patrol officer and Detective quickly gained you respect not only with your partners but with the community, which led to an assignment as a member of the Mobile Field Force,” the message said. He served as team leader of the Moblie Field Force, helping other agencies keep their community safe and advocating for updated equipment for the team. Promoted to Sergeant in 2016, leading Patrol, the Special Victims Unit, the Critical Incident Negotiation Team and various other groups within the department during the last 9 years. “Arguably one of the toughest challenges (was) VVPD Technology, where you were in charge of the planning, placement and maintenance of most systems that make this a safe community to visit and live in,” the message explained. Ferreira said some of his favorite memories were the people he worked with, especially on the graveyard shift. “Your compassion shines through, proving that your drive to provide justice for the victims’ families fills your heart,” the message said. “Your unit is grateful for your extreme kindness and always leading from that big heart of yours.” He was also featured in an episode of the TV show “Deadline to Disaster” for an interview he did with The Weather Channel regarding the LNU fire. “The jury is still out whether you withheld this information because you are humble, or because you would have to buy lunch for your team if they found out!” the radio message joked. The message said Ferreira will be missed by members of the Fire Department, Police Department, and community at large for his genuine demeanor and his mentorship. “Thank you, Sarge, for always putting the community first, and for making such a large impact in so many peoples’ lives,” the message read. “Your chuckle and smile warms the room, your empathy and grace provide comfort, and your honesty and patience open the door to always lend an ear.” The message also thanked his family for their sacrifices through the years, including his wife, children and mother. “As you enter this well-deserved chapter of retirement after 25 years plus, you will finally be able to explore new hobbies, enjoy more chocolate chip cookies, and visit the outdoors more with your family by your side,” the message concluded. “Congratulations to you, Mark!”
