Rivian's R1T is one of just a few electric pickup truck offerings. Tesla has entered the market with its unique Cybertruck, but the R1T's biggest competition is arguably Ford 's F-150 Lightning. And it's news about the Ford EV that may have had Rivian stock jumping by nearly 10% Friday morning. At 1:55 p.m. ET, Rivian shares still held on to a gain of 4.5%. The move has helped Rivian stock log an increase of more than 20% in the last month. Rivian's gaining momentum Last month, Rivian told investors it expects to deliver between 50,500 and 52,000 EVs this year. That would only slightly surpass 2023 deliveries. But the company also recently provided encouraging news related to its future capital position. And it is preparing to start production of its next-generation R2 platform next year as well. That has bolstered the stock recently, and yesterday it got another boost when Ford released its November vehicle sales update. That's because sales of Ford's F-150 Lightning plunged by 17% last month year over year. Ford has been throttling production plans for its fully electric models and leaning more on its internal combustion lineup as well as hybrid electric models. That's less competition for Rivian and its R1T truck. And yesterday's November update from Ford was a data point supporting that scenario. Neely entered the subway car and began acting erratically, throwing down his jacket and yelling that he was hungry and thirsty and didn’t care whether he died, witnesses said. Penny, a passenger on his way from a college class to the gym, grabbed Neely from behind in a chokehold, forced him to the train floor and restrained him there for several minutes. When Penny let go, Neely was nonresponsive. He was later declared dead. Prosecutors argued at his Manhattan trial Penny acted recklessly and negligently by restraining Neely in a chokehold for so long, even after Neely stopped moving. His defense, meanwhile, said he was acting to protect others from a threat and challenged a medical examiner’s finding that Neely died from the chokehold. After restraining Neely that day, Penny remained on scene when police arrived and later explained his actions to several NYPD officers. In one videotaped interview at the police precinct, he made small talk with a detective about his Marine service and career plans. Penny served four years in the Marines as a sergeant, from 2017 to 2021, with his last duty assignment at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, according to military records. “I’m in school. I’m using that GI Bill,” Penny said, referring to the federal program that offers benefits to veterans for higher education. He said he was studying engineering and architecture at New York City College of Technology. “But we’ll see,” Penny added. “I miss the Marine Corps. I miss the camaraderie.” Penny’s legal and political future Penny still faces a civil lawsuit related to Neely’s death. Neely’s father, Andre Zachery, filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court last week accusing Penny of assault, battery and causing Neely’s death. Zachery, who is listed as the administrator of Neely’s estate, accused Penny of having caused the death due to “negligence, carelessness and recklessness.” The suit does not specify the amount of money the family is seeking. Kolkata: Bus rides in and around the city, including Howrah Station, is set to become easier this month as commuters can now purchase tickets for state-run buses using the ''Yatri Sathi'' mobile application. This smartphone application also allows users to book yellow, blue, and white taxis. The application launched years ago has now introduced a new digital ticketing feature for state-run buses. According to a Times of India report, State Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty stated on Tuesday that the service initially began on 12 routes, including S10 (Airport-Nabanna), AC23A (Rajchandrapur-New Town), EB12 (Karunamoyee-Barasat), AC39D (Airport-Howrah Station), S23A (Rajchandrapur-Karunamoyee), AC2 (Barasat-Howrah), and S66 (Howrah-Barrackpore), which connect the airport. Gradually, the service will be expanded. The Minister said, "The launch of the Yatri Sathi digital ticketing system represents a significant advancement in Kolkata's public transportation infrastructure. This innovative solution marks a substantial improvement in how commuters access and utilise the city's transport services," as quoted by TOI. The report added that commuters using the application need to choose their route and make UPI payments to receive a QR-coded ticket. Conductors will scan the QR code to verify it. However, a pre-booked ticket does not guarantee a seat, as seats are still available on a first-come, first-served basis. Currently, AC bus services between the airport and Howrah Station (AC39 and VS-2) operate from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and until 10 p.m. on weekends.
