Climate finance's 'new era' shows new political realitiesCatherine Tyldesley has been praised by her fans for posting a 'beautiful' message about Christmas with her family in which she admitted having felt 'gutted' on the big day. Opening up to her followers on social media, the actress, known for having played Eva Price on ITV's Coronation Street , said she had initially been disappointed after realising she had barely taken any photos with her family. The TV star posted a photo of her and her two children Alfie, nine, and Iris, two, posing next to the Christmas tree. Sharing some of the details of her family Christmas with her 628,000 followers, Catherine said it was the only photo she managed to get before the children "ran off to play with more toys". Catherine admitted she was sad at first not to have captured more of the day, but said she later realised why there were not more pictures. She explained: "In the precious time we had together this Christmas we barely took any photographs. We are normally camera snappy all day! Initially I proclaimed to Tom 'there’s hardly any photos! I’m gutted'. But then I realised it’s because we were ‘in’ EVERY single moment - present." In a heartfelt admission, the actress added: "Whilst photos are indeed precious, presence... that is worth more than a million photos. Capturing images with my heart." Catherine also posted a video clip of her husband Tom Pitfield holding her daughter as the family waited for Catherine to arrive home on Christmas Eve. Alfie could be heard shouting "I can hear her, mummy's home!" as they all waited by the door. A final image of Catherine holding back tears as she opened a special gift completed the series. She explained that the moving image was taken by her husband in the lead up to Christmas. Catherine said she had been given the present by her mum and it was "the most precious gift". She explained: "Knowing how much I’ve missed my family this year, she wrote me a letter and sent a small gift box. Inside the box is a Christmas decoration my grandfather had as a child, a small white bell with a candle on top." Catherine's mum sent her a letter alongside a 'precious' family heirloom (Image: Instagram/auntiekath17) Catherine said her grandfather had kept the decoration for many years before eventually passing it on to her mum before he died. "My beautiful mother - knowing that I pray to my Grandfather most days, especially in times of self doubt or struggle - sent this precious family heirloom," Catherine shared with her fans. "Letting me know she shared my belief that my grandad IS with me every day and would be incredibly proud of me. It’s the most precious Christmas gift I’ve ever received." Catherine said she had been "asking my Grandad for strength and healing" on the day it was given to her and said she saw the gift as "his sign" to her. The actress rounded off her Christmas post with a touching message. She wrote: "It really is the smallest things. I couldn’t give a flying fudge about an insanely expensive handbag or new pair of shoes. The most precious gifts are the most humble, love-filled offerings. A cuddle, a hug, a pre-loved item from someone you cherish/cherished dearly. That is the greatest of wealths. "I hope you all had a special Christmas filled with mindfulness, love and laughter. Tell people you love them every single chance you have." Fans rushed to the comment section to praise the star for her 'beautiful' message. One commented: "Beautiful and heartfelt," while another said: "Love this Cath, how beautiful and so true." A third fan said: "Beautiful, had goosebumps reading it," while a fourth wrote: "The last paragraph is the most beautiful thing i’ve ever read. What a precious gift." A fifth commented: "Such beautiful words Catherine! Sending you so much love."
Some 140 years after its first trailblazing luxury train chugged out of Paris’s Gare de l’Est bound for Constantinople, the Orient Express is having something of a rebirth. Arguably the most interesting in a flurry of announcements from the brand is the launch of Orient Express Silenseas, a new collection of yachts that are a collaboration between three French giants: global hospitality group Accor, luxury goods titan LVMH and shipbuilders Chantiers de l’Atlantique. Orient Express Corinthian is the world’s largest sailing yacht. The finished product looks like the lovechild of the fanciest superyacht and the most elegant sailing boat. The first yacht to be completed, Orient Express Corinthian, which at 220m long, with three 100m-high sails, is the world’s largest sailing yacht, won’t be taking paying guests until 2026, but the first images of its interiors have been released. Luxury hotel groups such as Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons and Aman have all announced launches of luxury yachts this year . But while they may be fabulous, they are smallish cruise ships, not yachts. Evrima, for example, the first in the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, offers 224 suites. Then there’s Four Seasons, whose first “yacht”, when it launches in 2026, will have 14 decks and 95 suites. With just 50 cabins, Aman at Sea, which launches in 2027, is the closest of the offerings to a superyacht and also in scale to the 54-suite Orient Express Corinthian. But what Orient Express Corinthian has that none of the others do is sails. The interiors team took inspiration from classic French liners such as SS Normandie. There’s something much cooler and more adventurous-seeming about a great big yacht with sails than an all-bling one with just an engine. This is something that hasn’t escaped Jeff Bezos, who spent $500 million on his three-masted boat Koru , which at 127 metres was the world’s largest sailing yacht – until now. Inspired by the golden age of the French Riviera, Orient Express Corinthian has been designed by French architect and designer Maxime d’Angeac, who has also worked on a new Orient Express train that will launch in France around the same time. The two will combine on certain itineraries. Sustainability was central to the design process, seen through the minimal use of leather, no plastic and lots of walnut wood panelling. “The pillars of Orient Express are art deco, geometric patterns and strong colours, which both train and boat have,” says d’Angeac. “Train interiors can be much darker as this makes them feel cosy and luxurious. The boat [has] much more space and height, so its design feels more Riviera, like a villa on the Côte d’Azur. I’ve also replaced the really small windows you usually get in yacht cabins with huge, durable windows.” Orient Express Corinthian will have five restaurants, eight bars including a speakeasy, two swimming pools including a lap pool, an amphitheatre cabaret space and a private recording studio. In-room spa treatments and meditation sessions will also be available. The boats will spend summers in the Mediterranean and the Adriatic and winters in the Caribbean, with dining, shopping and cultural experiences offered at multiple stop-offs along the way. Sustainability has been at the forefront of the design process, as has working out how to be beautiful but also functional. For example, there is hardly any leather, no plastic and lots of walnut wood panelling, which as well as being elegant and warm is durable and lightweight. The team examined classic French liners such as SS Normandie for inspiration. There are lovely details at every turn: a long, daybed window seat that lifts up to reveal a wooden games box stocked with chess, dominoes and playing cards; luxurious velvet headboards and bathrooms lined in the most decadent-looking Violetta Calacatta marble with crimson walls behind. All of this will be accompanied by Orient Express service, with butlers on hand around the clock. The luxurious bathrooms feature Violetta Calacatta marble. Sustainability was central to the design process, seen through the minimal use of leather, no plastic and lots of walnut wood panellingThe luxurious bathrooms feature Violetta Calacatta marble “The in-room bar,” replies d’Angeac, when I ask him to name a small detail he particularly likes. “When I arrive at a hotel, I’m always excited to see what has been chosen. We are still deciding but I can tell you it will be the best artisan cocktails and chocolate, as opposed to big names. We will simply use small French companies offering the best things.” Silenseas is also debuting groundbreaking wind-harnessing technology that has been 20 years in the making: SolidSail, a rigid, foldable carbon sail and mast system that will provide more than 50 per cent of the yachts’ propulsion. “Wind technology is the future of cruising, everyone knows that,” says d’Angeac. “We can’t just go on producing bigger and bigger boats with enormous polluting engines. Using less gasoline is really important to us, so we will adapt our routes to ensure we follow the wind, which will all be part of the experience.” This hybrid system will combine wind power with an engine running on liquified natural gas (LNG – typically at least 85 per cent methane). While LNG is by no means the perfect option, it is much cleaner than other fossil fuels such as coal, gas or oil, so makes for a better alternative while the infrastructure needed to handle fully renewable energy is still being developed. It was said that Orient Express founder Georges Nagelmackers was first inspired to design a luxury train on a transatlantic crossing to America in 1867, revelling in its luxurious suites, social scene and general grandeur. “I think he would have gone into luxury cruising eventually, had he not died so young,” says d’Agneac. Either way, this feels like a full-circle moment. The Telegraph, London
While they aren’t going to harken back to Cliff Fletcher’s infamous “draft schmaft” approach to roster-building, the Toronto Maple Leafs simply haven’t been in a position to make the NHL Entry Draft a top priority in recent years. That’s what happens when you’re a perennial playoff team – you select later in each round and tend to use picks and prospects as trade assets to acquire players to help you win now. Recent drafts offer plentiful examples of this lack of emphasis. The Maple Leafs made just 11 total picks over the 2021, 2022 and 2023 drafts. Even this past summer, they re-stocked their system with eight new drafted prospects, but only one pick was in the top 120. It’s a credit to the club’s front office – under both former general manager (GM) Kyle Dubas and current GM Brad Treliving – that they’ve still managed to reap the rewards of their limited selections, adding players like Pontus Holmberg , Nicholas Robertson, Topi Niemela, Matthew Knies , and Easton Cowan in recent seasons. Then, there’s the 2022 NHL Entry Draft . Toronto faced plenty of obstacles when it came to adding young talent to their prospect pool, as the pandemic had robbed NHL scouting departments of the chance to watch draft-eligible prospects play. Furthermore, the club traded away their own first-, second-, third- and fifth-round selections, ultimately cobbling together five total picks and only two in the top-100. Nevertheless, it’s a credit to the Maple Leafs scouting department that we are now seeing the organization reap the benefits of what appears poised to go down as a memorable, impact draft class. Fraser Minten – Second Round, 38th Overall Typically, using future assets to get out from under an ill-advised contract can be a significant blow to an organization’s pipeline. Look no further than when the Maple Leafs had to use a 2020 first-rounder (that ultimately became Seth Jarvis) to offload Patrick Marleau’s $6 million cap hit onto the Carolina Hurricanes. Yet, Toronto’s efforts to get out from under the last two years of Petr Mrazek’s contract seem to have yielded a nice benefit. In dealing Mrazek to the Chicago Blackhawks , the Maple Leafs moved 13 spots back in the 2022 Draft, sending out the 25th-overall selection but returning the 38th-overall pick. While 25th pick Sam Rinzel continues to man the blue line at the University of Minnesota, the 38th pick turned into Fraser Minten, who is now making his case to stick around the NHL level amidst what has been an impressive five-game showing. Still just 20 years old, Minten has opened eyes in the organization with his poise and production out of the number-three centre role, recording two goals and four points. Even as some of the club’s veteran forwards return to the lineup, he is making a strong case to remain in the role moving forward. If he can serve as a long-term foundational piece down the middle for the Maple Leafs, then they will have Mrazek partially to thank. Dennis Hildeby – Fourth Round, 122nd Overall Homegrown goaltending hasn’t exactly been an organizational strength for the Maple Leafs in recent years. However, with the development of Joseph Woll and the encouraging trajectories of Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov, things appear to be turning around . It was Hildeby who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 Draft, taken out of the Swedish Junior Hockey League. Despite being just the sixth goalie to come off the board, the 6-foot-7 netminder remains the only 2022 prospect between the pipes to have reached the NHL. As you might expect from an inexperienced 23-year-old, the early results for Hildeby — 1-1 with a 4.03 goals against average (GAA) and an .869 save percentage (SV%) — were uneven and inconsistent. At the American Hockey League level, though, he has followed up a strong 2023-24 campaign with the Toronto Marlies (21-11-7 with a 2.41 GAA and .913 SV%) with similar numbers thus far this season (2-1-2 with a 2.34 GAA and .910 SV%). Suddenly, the Maple Leafs seem to have an enviable cache of goaltending depth – and Hildeby stands as a big part of that. You Might Also Like Nikita Grebenkin – Fifth Round, 135th Overall How do you become a fan favourite in Toronto in just a handful of games while playing less than 10 minutes a night? Simple, just start laying people out. That seems to be working for Nikita Grebenkin, who collected seven hits over his first two career NHL games against the Vegas Golden Knights and Utah Hockey Club and added four more in Monday’s 4-1 win over the Blackhawks. The 21-year-old forward’s play has led to some local media nicknaming him “Hanson-ov” in reference to the iconic, smash-mouth trio of brothers from the movie Slap Shot , may not be enough to keep him in the NHL, but it has earned him admirers. “He’s lots of fun,” says Minten , who was also his teammate with the Marlies. “He’s a fun guy. He loves hockey. He’s really competitive.” Grebenkin’s appeal has also come in the form of some hilarious interview soundbytes , in which his fun, engaging personality has shone right through any language barriers he may face. He still hasn’t recorded his first NHL point and more seasoning may be required before full-time NHL duty calls, but if he can offer a physical on-ice presence and a likable, endearing off-ice presence, he’s going to be popular with fans and teammates alike moving forward. Already with Minten looking like a future top-niine mainstay, Hildeby offering valuable insurance in net, and Grebenkin quickly growing into a cult favourite, the Maple Leafs’ 2022 class could still yield more fruit. Nicholas Moldenhauer (third round, 95th oveall) is in his second year with the Michigan Wolverines after a strong two-year stint with the USHL’s Chicago Steel, while Brandon Lisowsky (seventh round, 218th overall) has been a long-time standout for the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League. To be fair, none of Minten, Hildeby, or Grebenkin have yet to establish themselves as full-time NHL players. Hildeby is currently in the AHL and will likely remain there barring an injury to Anthony Stolarz or Woll. Meanwhile, the return of injured Maple Leafs will almost certainly spell the end of Grebenkin’s stint with the big club and could do the same for Minten. Still, three players from the 2022 class have not only found their way to the NHL on a playoff-calibre roster, but have shown some serious promise and offered hope for down the road. No. 21 Nebraska women lose the 3-point battle, and an entertaining game, to CreightonGameStop Corp. GME shares are trading higher Thursday following a social media post by Keith Gill , known as “Roaring Kitty,” a prominent figure in the 2021 GameStop short squeeze. What To Know: On Dec. 25, Gill shared an image of a wrapped gift on X, formerly Twitter. The post sparked speculation among retail traders, driving increased interest in GameStop shares during overnight trading. Shares rose 7.68% in after-hours trading on Robinhood, reaching $33.50 at one point. Cryptocurrencies tied to Gill's online persona also reacted. The meme coin GmeStop (GME) rose 5%, with its market capitalization reaching $31.26 million, while Kitty Inu (KITTY) surged by 17.96%. The movement in GameStop's stock could reflect continued volatility driven by retail trader enthusiasm rather than changes in the company's fundamentals. Should You Buy GME? An investor can make a few decisions when deciding whether a stock is a good buy. In addition to valuation metrics and price action which you can find on Benzinga's quote pages – like GameStop ‘s page for example – there are factors like whether or not a company pays a dividend or buys a large portion of its stock each quarter. These are known as capital allocation programs. GameStop GME does pay a dividend, which yields 10.93% per year as of the closing price on Dec. 26, 2024. Feel free to search Benzinga's dividend calendar for the next company that is due to pay a dividend and determine what kind of yield you can earn for holding a share of the company. For example, if you're looking to earn an annualized return of 17.75%, you'll need to buy a share of PermRock Royalty Trust by the Dec. 31, 2024. Once done, you can expect to receive a nominal payout of $0.05 on Jan. 15, 2025. Buyback programs are obviously different and highly variable. A company can approve a buyback program and purchase shares as it sees fit over the course of time in which the buyback was authorized. Looking through the latest news on GameStop will often yield whether or not the company has approved a buyback program recently. Buyback programs usually serve as a support for share prices, serving as a backstop for demand. GME Price Action: GameStop shares were up 5.43% at $32.82 at the time of writing, according to Benzinga Pro. A holiday tradition in the west suburbs has returned with the Clarendon Hills Lions Club’s annual Christmas tree sale. Now the group’s biggest fundraiser, the Lions Club began selling Christmas trees in 1965, and though some elements of the sale have changed, one aspect hasn’t changed in decades. Jim Johnson, the man who has headed the tree sale for the Lions Club since 1992, said “our most loyal customer” again bought the biggest available tree, something he has been doing each year since moving to Clarendon Hills in 1977. “Usually, we get about five of the really big trees each year, but this year we only got one, so I called John and told him it was his and would hold it for him,” Johnson said. “John” is John Kroll, who appreciates the Lions Club’s tree selection each year. “It’s become hard to find big, good-looking trees,” Kroll said. “It’s been great getting our trees each year from the Lions Club. We’ve always gotten really nice trees, their prices are very reasonable, and it all goes to a good cause. It’s a win, win, win, for everyone.” A giant Christmas tree is decorated in the Clarendon Hills home of John Kroll, who has been purchasing the largest trees from the Clarendon Hills Lions Club since 1977, earning him the title of “best customer” according to the club president. (John Kroll) Johnson said the Christmas tree sale has allowed the Lions Club to support numerous groups that provide critical services to sight- and hearing-disadvantaged and physically-disabled people throughout the western suburbs “Since its inception, the tree sale has provided nearly $1 million to these worthy causes,” Johnson said. “In addition, during the years (1960s and 1970s) when Dutch Elm disease was killing the elm trees in Clarendon Hills, the Lions Club used some of the proceeds from the Christmas tree sale to plant more than 1,000 trees in the parkways of the village.” The tree sale has been located at various locations around the village in the past. “After construction of the Lions Park Pool was completed (in 1992), the Clarendon Hills Lions Club decided to permanently locate the tree sale on its own property near the pool and to install a permanent power supply in order to save on labor and set-up cost,” Johnson said. The sale has been set up every year since at the Lions Park Pool, 100 Byrd Court. He said club members assemble in early November each year to set up the tree lot, erecting the stands, the lighting, signs, trailer and equipment. The Club has help from Boy Scouts Troop 51 for the setup and teardown. “A week after we set up, the trees are delivered and have to be unloaded from the trucks, stacked according to size and type, priced, and put into the stands,” Johnson said. Scott McMillin saws a fresh cut at the bottom of a Christmas tree at the Lions Club Christmas tree sale so the tree can soak up more water and remain fresher for a longer period. (Karen Deane) The sale usually begins on the Friday after Thanksgiving and continues until the last tree is sold. This year, because of the late timing of Thanksgiving, the sale of trees began a week earlier. That will again be the case in 2025. Sales are open from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. “All these activities require about 800 man-hours each year, all from Clarendon Hills Lions Club volunteers,” Johnson said. “That’s why new members receive a pair of gloves the day they join the club, to remind them of the duty to follow the Lions motto... We Serve.” In recent years the Lions Club has had help from the wrestling and baseball teams, the National Honors Society and Social Studies department at Hinsdale Central High School. Johnson said over the years trees have come from as far away as Nova Scotia, Washington State and North Carolina as well as Wisconsin and Michigan. Several varieties and sizes of trees are available, including Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, Balsam, Douglas Fir, White Pine and Scotch Pine. Prices range from about $50 to about $210, Johnson said. Along with trees, the Lions Club sells Fraser Fir roping and wreaths. “Our trees are inexpensive, compared to a lot of other places selling them,” he said. “We also do whatever we can to help people, including holding up trees for customer viewing, carrying trees, providing a fresh cut on the bottom and tying the tree onto the customer’s vehicle.” The Lions Club started its sale this year with 550 trees. “We’ll keep on selling until we have sold everything,” Johnson said.
