IRVING, Texas — It’s no surprise that owner Mark Davis isn’t happy with his team right now. The Las Vegas Raiders are riding a nine-game losing streak and are tied for the NFL ’s worst record at 2-11. When he was asked at the NFL league meetings Wednesday about head coach Antonio Pierce, Davis declined to commit to bringing him back in 2025. Advertisement “I’m very disappointed, obviously. I want to see progress,” Davis said. “There’s no excuses. We have injuries and all of those things, but your team has to figure out how to get around those issues. The bottom line ... is it comes down to me. And, if there’s going to be a finger pointed, it should be at me because, again, I’m the one who’s hiring the people who make the decisions on the field. “There’s a misconception that I’m making a lot of decisions on the football field, but I continue to tell y’all that I don’t. I delegate to the people who I hire. I give them goals. And then I get out of the way and let them try to do it and let the results speak for themselves. At this point, obviously, we’re not happy, but you have to go through the season and then we’ll re-evaluate. Right now, I’m not in that position of evaluating anything going forward.” I asked #Raiders owner Mark Davis to assess where things stand with HC Antonio Pierce. He's obviously not happy with the 2-11 record and wants to see progress in the final four games. He said he's not in a position to evaluate what the future holds until the offseason arrives. — Tashan Reed (@tashanreed) December 11, 2024 The Raiders have four games left to play, and Davis reiterated that he won’t make a decision on Pierce until the season ends in January. “I don’t even want to talk about that right now,” Davis said. “We’re still playing through the season.” Davis’ tone has changed significantly in the last couple of months. On Oct. 15, he cut Pierce some slack for being “young as a head coach” and said, “We’ll be OK.” Almost two months later, Davis didn’t give Pierce a huge vote of confidence. He did, however, express that he’s been pleased that the team’s effort hasn’t waned as the losses have piled up. “The one thing that this team has done is they’ve fought hard,” Davis said. “In every game, they’re fighting hard. That’s something that you don’t find all the time when things aren’t as good as you want them to be. That’s a positive, the way that this team has responded.” Advertisement When it comes to general manager Tom Telesco, Davis made it clear that he’ll be evaluated separately from Pierce. While they were both hired this offseason, Pierce had a nine-game stint as interim head coach in 2023. This is Telesco’s first year on the job, but Pierce has a 22-game sample size. “They didn’t come in as a team,” Davis said. “They are individuals.” Telesco’s first free agency class didn’t pan out well. Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins was the headliner but played just five games before suffering a Jones fracture, and quarterback Gardner Minshew II was terrible in 10 games before suffering a season-ending broken collarbone. But Telesco did put together a strong 2024 draft class. It has already produced four starters: star tight end Brock Bowers , center Jackson Powers-Johnson , right tackle DJ Glaze and cornerback Decamerion Richardson . And although his 11-year tenure as Los Angeles Chargers GM had its ups and downs, he still has a more proven track record than Pierce. Davis won’t make any in-season changes to the front office or coaching staff, but this offseason is shaping up to be an eventful one for the Raiders. On Wednesday, he gained several new partners to help him navigate it as the NFL owners voted to approve the Raiders’ sale of 15 percent of the franchise to Silver Lake co-CEO and Endeavor board chairman Egon Durban and Discovery Land Company founder and chairman Michael Meldman, who each acquired a 7.5 percent stake. The transaction marks the second time this year that Davis has sold a chunk of the Raiders equity. In October, he sold about 10.5 percent of the franchise to former NFL quarterback Tom Brady , co-founder of Knighthead Capital Management Tom Wagner and former NFL defensive lineman Richard Seymour. Brady and Wagner purchased stakes worth about 5 percent each, while Seymour purchased a 0.5 percent stake. Advertisement Davis is still the Raiders’ controlling owner, which means he’s the one who holds decision-making power. Davis has owned the team since his father Al died in 2011. “It was bringing added value to the organization,” Davis said of the collective impact of the transactions. “Mr. Egon and Mr. Meldman are fantastic businessmen, and so is Mr. Tom Wagner. They’re going to help us immensely on the business side of the organization. And, of course, Mr. Brady is going to help us on the football side. At this point in time, we have the infrastructure that we’re going to need to move forward with some young, energetic people that are very brilliant and smart people.” Free, daily NFL updates direct to your inbox. document.querySelectorAll(".in-content-module[data-module-id='scoop-city-newsletter'] .in-content-module-img img ").forEach((el) => { el.setAttribute("style", "pointer-events: none;");}) Free, daily NFL updates direct to your inbox. Brady is expected to help the football operations department , but his role will be somewhat limited by his duties as a Fox television analyst. Davis said they communicate often, but “there’s not a day-to-day role or anything that’s been defined” for Brady. “When Tom was hired (as an analyst), I promised to Fox that we would not get in the way of Tom’s job and that he’s going to be one of the best announcers in the game,” Davis said. “Anything he does with the Raiders will be in the future, as far as that goes. Obviously, I talk to him all of the time and his input is greatly valued and will always be valued. We’ll see as time goes on how his role evolves.” Davis said he expects to benefit from Brady’s competitiveness and experience. But it sounds like the plan isn’t for Brady to have a formal role until his contract with Fox expires following the 2033 season. “I want Tom to have a huge voice — no question about it,” Davis said. “It’s part of building the infrastructure of the organization ... a football person on that side of it that’s not a coach or a general manager. He’s somebody who can oversee the whole picture. I believe Tom, come time, will be the person who can do that.” Advertisement Nonetheless, Brady will almost certainly be consulted when Davis decides on the futures of Pierce and Telesco this offseason. And Davis has already stated that Brady will help with the team’s pursuit of a long-term answer at quarterback. The Raiders are currently slotted to get the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, so they could be in position to land one this offseason. “You’re always looking for a quarterback,” Davis said. “There’s no question about it.” Minshew will likely be released this offseason, and Aidan O’Connell likely hasn’t shown enough to be the starting quarterback. Despite that, Davis said he hasn’t issued any mandate for a quarterback to be drafted in the first round. “You’d have to talk to Tom Telesco,” Davis said. “And, of course, Tom Brady at some point will have something to say on that.” It stood out that Davis mentioned Telesco and Brady, but not Pierce. Davis ultimately will decide who the Raiders’ coach and general manager are in 2025, but he intends to largely delegate the football responsibilities from there. “I always have input,” Davis said. “I play devil’s advocate because I just want people to think about it from all different angles, but I let them make the decision. ... At times, I’m really happy about it, and there’s times when I’m not, but I think it’s the best way for me to go about doing the business. It’s about bringing in the right people who can actually make those decisions. “Now, I have people in ownership who will also be in that position that I know will be able to help us.” Required reading • NFL owners approve 15 percent sale of Raiders • Raiders ‘still believe’ after 9th straight loss and another crushing injury • Pressure shifts to Antonio Pierce as Raiders play out another losing season (Photo: Ethan Miller / Getty Images)

RALEIGH, N.C. — Bill Belichick, cutting the sleeves off an Alexander Julian plaid blazer. Bill Belichick, responding to boosters’ grinning back-slaps with a scowl and, “We’re on to Georgia Tech.” Bill Belichick, trying on Mack Brown’s old sideline puffy coat for size. Bill Belichick, being asked to shake the hand of a human dressed as a toaster pastry. Bill Belichick, adding the entire lacrosse team to the football roster to play special teams. Can you imagine? JONES ANGELL: “Welcome back everyone to Bill Belichick Live. Say, Bill, what’s your favorite appetizer here at Top of the Hill?” BELICHICK: “Yeah, I’m not going to discuss that.” North Carolina will miss out on all of that wonderful stuff if it doesn’t lock down a deal with Belichick to replace Brown as football coach, something that seemed imminent over the weekend but continues to dangle in the breeze. North Carolina should be so lucky as to have it fall apart. This already has disaster written all over it, from the too-many-cooks hiring process to the transparent competing leaks from each camp: Belichick to NFL insiders, the trustees and boosters to political reporters. This circus has a lot of clowns and no tent. Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get any more absurd at North Carolina than Brown burning a career’s worth of bridges in Chapel Hill by insisting he would be back next season only to be informed the next day he would not, here comes an NFL legend who couldn’t land an NFL job last cycle, with absolutely no NCAA experience in that lengthy career, as the top candidate to replace him. Imagine the kind of privileged bubble you’d have to live in to be able to convince yourself that, after firing a genial 73-year-old coach who seemed to be losing his grasp on the rapidly changing world of college football, a surly 72-year-old with little or no grasp on college football is the right guy to replace him. Why not dig up Knute Rockne’s corpse and drag it around, like Weekend at Bernie’s? This is such a bad idea that even if it were to happen and somehow work out, it would still be an objectively bad idea even with 20-20 hindsight. Even if no one else wants the job, whether for football reasons or having to submit TPS reports to eight different bosses, this is an absurd place to land. North Carolina is willing to settle for someone who counts as family because his dad was a Tar Heels assistant coach for three years some 70 years ago, who has spent one fall observing his son as an assistant coach at Washington and is therefore an expert on the college game despite actually never coaching in it, whose NFL dynasty fizzled as soon as Tom Brady tapped out, whose coaching tree has had little success. (Two branches of it actually sprouted in the ACC: Al Groh and Bill O’Brien). And forget about UNC for a second: With all the nonsense that comes along with being a college head coach, it’s fair to wonder whether Belichick has fully thought this through, either. Two words: Mayo bath. What’s in this for him? If he wants to prove his late decline in New England wasn’t a fluke, the NFL is the place to do that. Beating Charlotte doesn’t count toward breaking Don Shula’s record. Beating the Panthers does. Brown may have been out of coaching for a little while when he returned to North Carolina, but he at least had won something at the NCAA level, knew the school inside and out and was (and remains) as avuncular as Belichick is gruff. Once again, the folks in power at North Carolina fell in love with a big-name trophy coach, but Belichick’s name only means anything to people like them. The oldest recruits in this cycle were 12 years old when Belichick last won anything. These kids don’t even know who he is, other than maybe the guy whose dog was apparently drafting for him during COVID. In Belichick’s defense, he does know the game of football as well as anyone on the planet and wouldn’t take the job without the financial backing to buy a decent team — no doubt at the continued expense of funds for basketball, which just lost out on the nation’s top recruit to BYU of all places — and if he’s got any tricks left up his absent sleeves, he might be able to find inefficiencies in recruiting, the transfer portal and on the field that college coaches have heretofore missed. It’s not like there are any NCAA rules left to break. But that’s a lot of maybes, and there are fundamental aspects of the college game — like sucking up to high-school coaches, making nice with the faculty and getting players out of the film room to go to class — that would be entirely foreign to Belichick. Whereas an up-and-coming college coach might have been able to build on the foundation Brown left behind — Jeff Monken is still out there, and wouldn’t it be something if UNC eventually blundered into what might be the best possible hire — this feels like it would be a ground-up rebuild of the entire operation. If Belichick really did submit a 400-page blueprint, and nothing’s ever gone wrong with a lengthy manifesto from a guy known for wearing a hoodie, it certainly suggests so. There are only two reasons someone like Belichick wants a job like this: He’s running away from something, or he’s got no place else to go. Unlike Norman Dale at Hickory High, there’s no Jimmy Chitwood waiting in the wings to save him. If this falls through, both sides should be relieved, not aggrieved. ©2024 The News & Observer. Key Facts Get Forbes Breaking News Text Alerts: We’re launching text message alerts so you'll always know the biggest stories shaping the day’s headlines. Text “Alerts” to (201) 335-0739 or sign up here . Are Companies Allowed To Donate To Trump’s Inaugural Fund? Yes. The Federal Election Commission states corporations and labor organizations are allowed to make donations to an inaugural committee and contributions are not subject to any limits. The inaugural committee has to file a report with the FEC detailing donations by the 90th day after the inauguration. What Does The Inaugural Fund Do? After the election, an inaugural committee is appointed by the president-elect and it is responsible for planning the inauguration ceremony and activities connected with the ceremony, according to the FEC. The inaugural committee plans and finances inaugural events—save for the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol and a luncheon—that it wants to host, including opening ceremonies, parades, galas and balls. Key Background The slew of donations from tech companies comes as executives are working to repair or build relationships with Trump ahead of his second term in the White House. Trump has been openly critical of a number of tech executives—including Bezos and Zuckerberg—and tech companies, especially after being removed from some social media platforms in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot. Bezos posted on X , formerly known as Twitter, for the first time in nearly a year after the first assassination attempt on Trump earlier this year, saying the then-candidate “showed tremendous grace and courage under literal fire tonight. So thankful for his safety and so sad for the victims and their families.” After Trump won, Bezos congratulated him on “an extraordinary political comeback and decisive victory.” When Zuckerberg met with Trump last month, a Meta spokesperson said the CEO was “grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for dinner and...meet with members of his team about the incoming administration,” and a Trump aide told Fox Zuckerberg saw Trump as an “agent of change and...prosperity.” What To Watch For Other donations coming in. The Washington Post reported Google CEO Sundar Pichai had a scheduled sit-down with Trump earlier this week. Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce and owner of Time magazine—which just named Trump its person of the year—said in a post on X , “This marks a time of great promise for our nation. We look forward to working together to advance American success and prosperity for everyone.” Forbes Valuation Forbes’ estimates Altman has a net worth of $1.1 billion as of Friday afternoon. We estimate Bezos has a net worth of about $242 billion, making him the second wealthiest person in the world, and Zuckerberg has a net worth of about $214.3 billion, making him the third wealthiest person. LONDON (AP) — After a sprawling exposed the communications of an unknown number of Americans, U.S. cybersecurity officials are advising people to use encryption in their communications. To safeguard against the risks highlighted by the campaign, which originated in China, federal cybersecurity authorities released an extensive list of security recommendations for U.S. telecom companies — such as Verizon and AT&T — that were targeted. The advice includes one tip we can all put into practice with our phones: “Ensure that traffic is end-to-end encrypted to the maximum extent possible.” End-to-end encryption, also known as E2EE, means that messages are scrambled so that only the sender and recipient can see them. If anyone else intercepts the message, all they will see is a garble that can’t be unscrambled without the key. Law enforcement officials had until now resisted this type of encryption because it means the technology companies themselves won’t be able to look at the messages, nor respond to law enforcement requests to turn the data over. Here’s a look at various ways ordinary consumers can use end-to-end encryption: Officials said the hackers targeted the metadata of a large number of customers, including information on the dates, times and recipients of calls and texts. They also managed to see the content from texts from a much smaller number of victims. If you’re an iPhone user, information in text messages that you send to someone else who also has an iPhone will be encrypted end-to-end. Just look for the blue text bubbles, which indicate that they are encrypted iMessages. The same goes for Android users sending texts through Google Messages. There will be a lock next to the timestamp on each message to indicate the encryption is on. But there’s a weakness. When iPhone and Android users text each other, the messages are encrypted only using Rich Communication Services, an industry standard for instant messaging that replaces the older SMS and MMS standards. Apple has that RCS messages “aren’t end-to-end encrypted, which means they’re not protected from a third party reading them while they’re sent between devices.” Samsung, which sells Android smartphones, has also hinted at the issue in a footnote at the bottom of a last month on RCS, saying, “Encryption only available for Android to Android communication.” To avoid getting caught out when trading texts, experts recommend using encrypted messaging apps. Privacy advocates are big fans of Signal, which applies end-to-end encryption on all messages and voice calls. The independent nonprofit group behind the app promises never to sell, rent, or lease customer data and has made its so that it can be audited by anyone to examine it “for security and correctness.” Signal’s encryption protocol is so reputable that it has been integrated into rival , so users will enjoy the same level of security protection as Signal, which has a much smaller user base. End-to-end encryption is also the default mode for , which like WhatsApp is owned by Meta Platforms. Telegram is an app that can be used for one-on-one conversations, group chats and broadcast “channels” but contrary to popular perception, it doesn’t turn on end-to-end encryption by default. Users have to switch on the option. And it doesn’t work with group chats. Cybersecurity experts have warned people against using Telegram for private communications and pointed out that only its opt-in ‘secret chat’ feature is encrypted from end-to-end. The app also has a reputation for being a haven for scammers and criminal activity, highlighted by founder and CEO Pavel Durov’s . Instead of using your phone to make calls through a wireless cellular network, you can make voice calls with Signal and WhatsApp. Both apps encrypt calls with the same technology that they use to encrypt messages. There are other options. If you have an iPhone you can use for calls, while Android owners can use the service, which are both end-to-end encrypted. The only catch with all these options is that, as with using the chat services to send messages, the person on the other end will also have to have the app installed. WhatsApp and Signal users can customize their privacy preferences in the settings, including hiding IP address during calls to prevent your general location from being guessed.

(The Center Square) – U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Arizona, blasted U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Ur Jaddou for her agency approving illegal border crossers as sponsors for illegal border crossers. At a U.S. House Judiciary subcommittee hearing , Biggs also pointed out that the sponsors were found to be committing Social Security and other fraud under her watch. Biggs addressed rampant fraud in a program created by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for inadmissible citizens of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, who don’t qualify for admission into the U.S. Under Mayorkas, they were flown into the country through a CHNV parole program, used a CBP One phone app to apply for entry, and were released into the country. Part of the process requires having a “supporter” fill out an application on behalf of the CHNV parolee. While Mayorkas claimed app user parolees and supporters were thoroughly vetted, multiple Office of Inspector General reports disproved this claim, expressing security risks at airports. In August, flights of CHNV illegal border crossers were temporarily suspended after a USCIS internal review found that tens of thousands of CHNV fraudulent applications were processed. Supporters used fake Social Security numbers and phone numbers and listed the same physical address on nearly 20,000 applications, according to the report, The Center Square reported . Biggs asked Jaddou if she disputed the fact that supporters used the same Social Security Number on CHNV applications, which “happened at least 3,200 times. The same phone number used at least 3,300 times. The same supporter email address was used on applications nearly 2,000 times.” Jaddou said she didn’t have the report in front of her and didn’t dispute it. “You don’t really want to admit there’s this much rampant fraud,” he said. Biggs next cited examples of fraud that weren’t fixed. “The same exact 184-word response was used on more than 1,800 applications by nearly 194 CHNV supporters,” he said. “More than 460 nonexistent zip codes were used on supported applications on behalf of more than 2,800 CHV aliens. You can dance around and say you don't have the report in front of you, but these are the facts. This program is rife with fraud.” As of Aug. 6, DHS had approved more than 80,000 CHNV supporters for the program who were in the U.S. on a temporary basis. USCIS approved 224 CHNV parolees who were already in the country illegally as sponsors for CHNV parolees that came after them, meaning illegal foreign nationals were sponsoring illegal foreign nationals. USCIS also approved 28,322 illegal foreign nationals shielded from deportation through Temporary Protected Status as CHVN supporters; “19,865 SLEs approved as CHNV supporters, 311 DACA recipients approved as CHNV supporters, 1,300-plus aliens in the U.S. on temporary visas approved as CHNV supporters, 64 refugees approved as CHNV supporters, 19,112 conditional permanent residents approved this season as CHNV supporters,” he said. “That is the program that you are administering. I'm not talking the aliens. I'm not getting into the violation of law of the U.S. code 1182, which states that the use of parole is supposed to be a case-by-case basis.” Biggs said the supporter application process was so rampant with fraud that it was temporarily shut down but wasn’t fixed. The fraud is “still ongoing. We're waiting for the next report to confirm that these things are still going on,” he said. In addition to the USCIS report, a U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security investigation found that "as of mid-October 2023, there were 1.6 million inadmissible aliens awaiting travel authorizations through the CHNV program” and DHS was using 50 airports worldwide to fly them in, The Center Square reported . None flown into the country have a legal basis to enter the U.S. before being paroled through the CHNV program, DHS documents the committee obtained state. "All individuals paroled into the United States are, by definition, inadmissible, including those paroled under the CHNV processes," one of the DHS documents states. The CHNV parole program was among more than a dozen that House Republicans identified as illegal and cited as reasons to impeach Mayorkas. According to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection data , more than 852,000 illegal foreign nationals were processed and released into the country through the CBP One App and more than 531,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans deemed inadmissible were released into the country through the CHNV parole program, as of October. Under the Biden administration, more than three million illegal border crossers were reported from CHNV countries, The Center Square reported . Many have been directly linked to violent crimes committed against Americans, The Center Square reported .
